This place is the epitome of the meaning "having a steak, pommes frites". The wait staff function like a well oiled machine. They are never in your face, but can pick up on the slightest nuance to ensure that you're doing the experiences. Nothing short of perfect.J is busy, ensuring that all the restaurant patrons are well looked after. The mixed green salad is a must. Their house dressing is a perfect balance of flavours without taking away from the intention of the salad. The candy walnuts at a very nice lift to this entire dish. Again, without being in your face, the wait staff, will discreetly come to your table with a stainless steel dish, full of frites, followed quickly by yours teak, done to perfection. The finishing touch of fleur de sel on the steak, makes it so French. This was not lost on either my partner or myself. Moving onto the desserts we did not know that J's wife was a pastry chef, and made all the desserts. Their presentation was outstanding as was their taste. They were neither heavy nor imposing, but rather delicately, sweet and full of flavor, to make the end of the meal most spectacular. While, this is not a cheap place to go for food, you certainly get the value in the quality in the professionalism of the staff, along with incredibly high-grade products. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes a good steak. The atmosphere in the restaurant was totally upbeat. The music was neither too loud or too quiet, without getting in the way of your conversation.

The steak is delicious, and the fries make a perfect pairing. You definitely have to try their desserts--every single one is amazing!

A cool spot to get your steak and frites fix. The restaurant doesn't have a menu, and all your expected to select is how you would like your steak cooked. Located on Toronto's West end, the restaurant has more of an European / Parisian style setup rather than the traditional steakhouse. Steak was excellently prepared and the frites were just kind of perfect and did I mention it's unlimited! (They kind of remind me of McDonald's fries which some people enjoy, such as me) Definitely adding to the list in my steakhouse rotation

$55 for a 10oz steak, candied walnut salad, bread and unlimited fries. They only serve steak frites and they do it well. The salad was very very very citrusy which was too acidic for my stomach but the candied walnuts made up for it. The steak was perfectly cooked medium rare as requested and served with a targon sauce (can't remember). The steak was not warm when served and got cold pretty fast despite it being served on top of a plate over a candle. It was a bummer because even if slightly cold, it was definitely how I liked my steak and could only imagine if it was warm. Not sure if it was sitting out too long until it was served. Hopefully it was a one off experience as it was a relatively expensive dinner. We definitely enjoyed the unlimited fries with the sauce though. The fries kind of remind me of McDonalds fries. The service was AMAZING however. The servers were really nice and attended to all of our requests timely. Though we didn't have a reservation, I would recommend one as there's not that many tables and a pretty popular spot. We got lucky.

J's Steak Frites located on Queen St W. near Gladstone Ave is a Parisian style steakhouse. The unique concept of this restaurant is that they only serve one main dish, steak frites, for a set price. For $49 (+ tax) per person, you get your choice of appetizer (daily soup or a candied walnut salad), steak (our steak was striploin that night), butter sauce, and unlimited fries. There is also bread and butter included in the meal as well. J's Steak Frites has daily desserts that may change which are an additional cost. There is also an extensive wine list as well as cocktails available. Seating time is 90 min where reservations are definitely recommended. I've actually been to the location of J's Steak Frites when the restaurant was Dandylion. The owners of J's Steak Frites have kept majority of the interior the same. The space is not large and there is seating for about ~30 customers. Washrooms are located in the basement and are not wheelchair accessible. I recently dined at J's Steak Frites on a Sat night and reserved a 5:45pm time. I was surprised that there was a line for customers to enter the restaurant when I arrived promptly. I did see on the restaurant's Instagram that night that they had walk-ins only, meaning that likely all reservations were booked. My husband and I were greeted and shown to our table. The server came by right away to let us know of the menu and gave us some time to decide our drink of choice. In regards to food, I opted for the salad and my husband got the daily soup (a mushroom veloute). Both items were tasty. The salad was perfectly coated with the right amount of dressing and the candied walnuts gave a slight sweetness to the dish. For the main attraction, we both asked for our steaks to be cooked medium rare, which both were when they arrived. The steak was delicious, tender and seasoned well. The portion of the steak was also not small, which will feed someone who is hungry. I expected the steaks to be executed well and they were. The butter sauce was delicious as well - great accompaniment to the steak. The fries were thin and oh so addictive. I definitely enjoyed the steak frites. For dessert there was a chocolate cake that night. We opted to share a slice (the slices are huge!). The cake was made well - not too sweet but just a perfect slice of chocolate cake. The service was great at J's Steak Frites. Our server and hostess made sure we were satisfied and checked up on us several times to see if we wanted more fries and if everything was to our liking. Overall, great place for steak frites - would recommend if you are a fan of the dish. I definitely would return in the future!

Overall a decent experience with a few sticking points. The Good: As someone who hates having to choose off a menu, coming to a one dish restaurant like this is a great experience. I still have to choose a cocktail and a dessert but the appetizer and main are taken care of which is nice. The bread, salad and steak and frites are prepared wel and cooked to perfection how you like it. The service is the right level of attentive. Unlimited fries is a nice touch. They have a decent but accessible wine list. The desserts are hit or miss, I think it might be a matter of personal taste as I don't like overly rich sweet desserts but they did taste good and were well presented. I did have a pumpkin crème brûlée there that was amazing tho but I would be cautious with the cakes/mousses if your like me. The Not So Good: Mostly around restaurant policy and how it affects experience. They charge a fee for reservations now, a recent development. I get that bad people ruined reservations for everyone but I find their practice to be a little excessive. A flat 50/100 deposit would be reasonable, although I don't like it, however they have a deposit per head (50/person). I had a party of five and someone was sick and couldn't make it. Either I have to absorb the cost of the reservation deposit for their seat or be kind of a shitty person and ask them to pay me for missing the outing, which feels bad. I did ask for an exception and lucky they got someone to take the extra table left so she said they would waive it this time. However, I shouldn't have to do that in my opinion, deposits are to encourage people not to no show (especially large groups, not to penalize paying customers who haven't done anything wrong. Secondly, the enforced seating time of 2 hours makes for a bit of a rushed feeling with service. They get out the food quickly because it's all the same items going out, so more efficient for the kitchen, however it feels like the server sometimes is coming over and serving us a little to frequently to make sure we get enough fries, finish our win bottle and still have time to get through dessert and coffee. I am more understanding of this, you have other reservations to accommodate which makes sense, but I wish they put in a bit of grace time to make it a little more relaxed, even just 15 minutes between end of our seating and the start time of the next would make a large difference.

While I don't regret trying it, J's Steak Frites fell flat overall and I can't say I'd be back. Firstly, we had the unfortunate pleasure of sitting by the door which was drafty and right by the communal coat hook. And because their front door is broken, your table will double as host as you get up to open the door for arriving guests who can't open it from the outside. We started with bread and salad which were basic. The fries were good, though I can't say I agree with reviewers who compare them to McDonalds - they were closer to being soggy vs crispy like McDonalds'. The steak was served lukewarm and was run of the mill. They make a good paper plane, at least!

I saw this place on TikTok and had to try it. I came here for their Valentine's special, which was to decorate your own dessert. The overall ambiance of the restaurant is cozy and romantic. I'd say it was a medium sized restaurant. The presentation of food and drinks were amazing. The servers were mostly attentive and very kind. The menu is fixed, and you are offered bread and butter, soup or salad, steak and fries, and dessert. On the day I went, they only had salad so we got that. The pieces of bread were so tiny, and there is enough butter for maybe two pieces. The steak was cooked perfectly and the butter sauce that comes with it is delicious. They should give this butter with the bread as well. The fries looked like McDonalds fries, but they were slightly better. The drinks were good. The servers walk around with trays of fries, offering them to you as they go around. Although the fries are all you can eat, they start you off with a large portion so we didn't need a second round of fries. The dessert was a very sweet honey cake and it came with some sprinkles that we could add on ourselves. It was cute and fun to decorate, but the cake was a bit too sweet. Our server was soft spoken and a little clumsy. I saw her dropping things at other tables. She let us sit with the menu for a while before taking our orders, even though everyone in the restaurant is ordering the same thing apart from drinks. I did notice another server ask if a customer wanted his jacket hung up on the racks, but everyone else in that area was sitting with their jackets. We also sat with our jackets on our chairs. There is only one washroom and it is down a flight of stairs. The washroom is not the nicest. Overall it was a good experience and the food was delicious.

Located in the heart of Toronto, this spot serves a $56 prix fixe menu featuring a 10 oz. steak and its signature UNLIMITED fries This Parisian style set course also comes with fluffy bread and butter and a nice candied walnuts salad. I forgot the name of their cherry chocolate cake but it was super decadent and rich in flavour. The portion for one dessert is more than enough to feed two people. I genuinely loved everything about this restaurant. The staff were not only attentive to our table but others as well. The fries were McDonald's but 10x better.

J's has a great, simple concept that works well - choose how you like your steak and they handle the rest. They start you off with some bread and butter, a spinach salad, and then comes the steak as well as the unlimited fries. Every bite was very good - they know what they're good at, and they execute it well. The fries are just like McDonalds fries, and the steak comes with a tarragon cream sauce that was pretty good too. For dessert we tried the oreo cake and strawberry shortcake which were both very solid - they make all their pastries in house. Lastly, the service was excellent! They were super attentive and came around often with piping hot fries, which apparently someone managed to eat 12 plates of once. Overall, J's was all around very solid and it's well worth trying!

I would give 3.5/4 if I could. The steak and fries were tasty. Everything was cooked well although we found some steaks were more tender than others at our table. However, the food was not something extraordinary and we did feel a bit rushed - as they tried clearing our table multiple times between courses before we were done.

J's Steak Frites is a great place if you appreciate a classic and perfectly cooked steak. It's a fixed menu of bread, salad (I think you can switch this for soup but it was not offered the day I came), unlimited frites (in the best way possible they're like fresh McDonald's fries and I really enjoyed them!), steak cooked to your preference (we went for medium rare and it was truly perfect), and you can add a dessert and coffee/ tea at the end. The drinks and wine list was great. The staff was professional and helpful. The owner was there that day so you can tell it's a restaurant that is looked after and cared for. I found the price to be appropriate and reasonable for what was offered. It was a clean restaurant, the bathroom was clean and cute too. The seating is slightly less intimate than I would have preferred because the tables are so close together, and the restaurant is long, but overall it was a wonderful experience.

The best thing we ate that night was the complimentary bread - very similar to Yorkshire pudding. The wagyu fried rice was flavourful. The appetizers were mid and the Chef's Tasting steaks were ok albeit served lukewarm. The 30 days aged 32 oz bone in ribeye was extremely disappointing. It was very chewy and difficult to eat. Lots of fat and tough veins in the steak - it was not quality and definitely not worth $302. We didn't even eat half of it. Our server asked us if we wanted to pack it and we said no because it was disappointing and difficult to eat. He likely did not have training on how to respond as he completely ignored the comment, no apologies or further questions and cleared the rest of our table. It was really odd service for a highly rated steakhouse. I personally would not recommend Jacobs & Co and would not dine again here.

Every dish had an excellent presentation. We spent a lot of time taking photos and videos. What did you expect from me?! We loved all the dishes! The portions were large! There are more staff than in the previous location, allowing the service to be excellent. They tend to have many loyal and returning customers. Every table starts with freshly baked bread and butter. The bread was so fresh! The three appetizers tasted good. They each had a little kick due to creole cuisine. I loved the shrimp the most. The Blackened Lamb Chops was perfectly cooked. Each of the four pieces were very tender, accompanied by a delicious sauce. The dish had some very nicely cooked seasonal vegetables: roasted potatoes, a red pepper, string beans, a broccoli, and a carrot. This dish will be put into their regular menu in the near future. The New Orleans Fisherman's Plate is great if you want a little sampling of their seafood: Blackened Fish, Cajun Calamari, and Coconut Beer Shrimp. It also comes with rice and seasonal vegetables. The fish was so good! We brought some home for my mom and she really loved it. The Coconut Beer Shrimp was on top of a Orange Marmalade Sauce, which is really liked. The three desserts looked really good and tasted good. I loved the pecan pie the most. They can split dishes in half in the kitchen and serve them on two dishes for two people to share. The restaurant uses fresh seasonal ingredients and spices to create authentic Creole and Cajun tastes. Everything is made in-house except for bread and butter. In the near future, their bread will be made in-house too. Currently, there is only indoor dining but they are looking into the possibility of sidewalk outdoor dining. Mike Djurdjevic runs the front of the house while his wife, Mira Djurdjevic, operates the kitchen. Their son, Marko, also helps in the front of the house. There is a large pizza oven at the back of the restaurant. They will be introducing creole pizza in the near future. There is a separate large room for events, parties, etc. This room will be ready in the near future. They also do catering. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, but there is no door-open button. There is one gender-neutral washroom, which is also wheelchair accessible, and one female washroom. Thrre is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2026-037

Perfectly lighted, which seems odd to say but yeah, it makes a difference. Service: Impeccable. Professional, friendly, helpful but also unobtrusive. Food: TL;DR: "ooh la la" We started with the torched hamachi crudo, which was a symphony of flavour on the palate. The fish was perfectly prepared and struck with just the right texture and char. The candied ginger hits with some zesty accompaniment. In another instant, you're transported to Southeast Asia with a soothing coconutty, tamarind (?) dressing and finally, your head turns (in a good way) when the jalapeño hits. Every bite was a trip. We were in a foodie trance when the next courses arrived. The triple fried French fries were as good as they sounded. There's no picture because my mouth was faster than my camera. The lobster & shrimp fritters were perfectly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and packed with crustacean flavour. The sauce was another hit of tang and zest. I think the gastronomical term for how we ate them is "wolfing." The Brussels sprouts were smaller and more flavourful than you commonly find on menus featuring this on-trend appetizer. They were perfectly caramelized and seasoned. The peanuts offered a nice crunchy contrast. We finished with the lemon meringue pie which was a visual and sweet feast in and of itself. I favoured the crust and the meringue topping to the ultra sweet and tart filling but all three shone together in concert. The meringue especially was a gooey, marshmallowy party that spilled over the rest of the dessert. I finished with an Amaro Meletti, which was a nice caramel-cola flavoured digestif and would make a fantastic sorbet (hint to the chefs for a summer treat). Allez chez Aloette, gentile Aloette
