We came to Perla Oyster Bar & Grill for a nice celebration dinner, and overall, it was a really great experience. The restaurant has a beautiful, modern vibe- upscale but not intimidating- and it felt like the kind of place you'd go for a celebration (which we did!) or a fancier date night.
The three of us shared a bottle of Albino Armani Pinot Grigio, which was super crisp and refreshing. It went perfectly with all the seafood we ordered and was easy to drink throughout the night.
Here's what we tried:
Raspberry Point Oysters (ordered 18 pcs) - I'll admit, I'm usually not the biggest fan of raw oysters, but the red vinaigrette they served on the side totally changed the game for me. It was tangy, slightly sweet, and packed with flavour. I could've eaten way more oysters just because of that vinaigrette. Super fresh, too!
Truffle Fries - These were an easy favourite. The fries were hot and crispy, with a strong truffle aroma and flavour that didn't feel fake or overpowering. The parmesan on top added a nice touch, and we ended up snacking on these all night.
Crab Cakes - I liked the taste, especially with the added citrus aioli, but the texture was a little too soft for me. I couldn't really pick out the crab unfortunately, it kind of all blended together. Still enjoyable, just not something I'd be rushing to get again.
Bone Marrow - This was actually my first time trying bone marrow. I don't really know how to describe it... it was rich and buttery, and the sourdough toast helped cut through that heaviness. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either. Just one of those things I'm glad I tried. We ordered an extra piece so we could each have our own.
Lobster Linguine - It was rich and flavourful. The sauce had a nice garlicky seafood taste, and they didn't skimp on the lobster meat. I'd definitely order this again.
Linguine - This was a lighter option compared to the lobster one. It was fresh and simple with a nice tomato and basil flavour. If you're not looking for something too heavy, this is a good choice.
Risotto Bianco (with added lobster tails) - The risotto itself was creamy and comforting, and both the scallop and shrimp were cooked perfectly- had that nice, bouncy texture I love. I added lobster tails to it (which came out to an extra $60), and while I appreciated the upgrade, the lobster was a little overcooked and ended up being kind of mushy. That was the only letdown for me.
I also have to give a shoutout to our server, Eric. He was super attentive all night, checked in at the right times and made us feel really taken care of. Our mains did take longer than expected to come out, and Eric let us know the kitchen was a bit backed up. He apologized on their behalf and actually comped our dessert and after-dinner drinks (coffee and tea), which we really appreciated. That kind of service goes a long way.
Yes, the prices here are definitely on the higher side, but between the food, the space, and the service, I felt like it was worth it. I'd definitely come back especially for those oysters and truffle fries. read more
