Fresh seafood, I love it! Seafood has to be one of my favorites. Love snow crab legs, lobsters and fried calamari. The complimentary bread and cheese is so good. I could just go there and eat that haha. The stuffed clams were really good also. This is a good place for groups because they have really big platters that you can order and it either comes with rice or pasta. Everything tastes fresh and has lots of flavor. I wish I could give less. We waited nearly an hour to be seated, despite being told twice by the hostess we were the next party (watched two other parties be seated before us). Our food arrived cold, mine specifically sitting in a huge pool of grease that started to separate. The owners came by, pouring water from everyone and dismissed me after requesting to speak with her three times. I went to Sammys for the first time in October 2016 and it was great. Food was good, ambience was nice, I got a tiara and it was just great. Cut to May 2017, I returned and it was a disaster. We were seated right next to a loud obnoxious birthday group, who sang and spoke loudly to the point I could not hear myself speak. To make matters worst, the waiters put plates and napkins next to us and would periodically ask us to pass them. Further when I ordered the same meal as the first time, my ribs were so uncooked if I ate them I would probably die. The waitress was nice about it though. Great place to have a nice seafood dinner. They bring out cornbread and pickled vegetables. They also bring out this huge ball of freshly baked bread (like something you might have seen in medieval times) a knife to cut slices with and plenty o' butter. The waitstaff is friendly and courteous. This is a topnotch place for seafood second to none. I just had the broiled swordfish it was excellent. Sammy's, there is nothing like it whether it's an intimate dinner for two. A few friends getting together. Or its a day or night out with the family. This restaurant is hard to beat. we use to come here a few times a year for their awesome Feasts for Two (tht easily feed 4-5 ppl) and came back again last week. not sure if there is new management or not, but the shellfish just wasnt the same anymore. their other foods (soups/steak/fish) are mediocre at best but it was always safe to stick with the Feasts for Two (shellfish), unfortunately tht is now no longer the case. we had a fairly large group of eight and with our reservations were seated right away - but after a long wait, eventually had to flag other waiters down to find ours. our waitress was cordial, but service was overall slow. in conclusion - if thr are no other available options on city island, i wouldnt mind going back, but it wouldnt be my first choice anymore. there is another restaurant on the island tht is now my favorite and also less expensive. read more

Seriously a seafood lovers dream. They have a pretty extensive menu that has anything seafood related that you can imagine. It honestly was a little overwhelming. I finally settled on the snow crab and fried shrimp combo and my date got the Cajun snapper. Whoa both gave huge portions. The snapper was SO delicious! Kinda wish I had ordered it but my snow crab and fried jumbo shrimp were just as good. I did order a side of fries that were cold as hell when they arrived.. But I mean i didn't go there to eat french fries so it wasn't a big deal.The waiter could have been a little more personable as he looked like he couldn't wait for his shift to be over. Been here plenty of times. Very solid in it's consistency. Can be pricy family of 4 was $234 w/o the tip and 2 alcoholic beverages. Free parking across the street. In this trip the place was empty but it can get very crowded with long waits. Have always found the staff to be attentive and accommodating. Portions are huge so you will have leftovers. read more

This is Sammy's "buffalo shrimp" served with BBQ sauce. So Sammy's has no buffalo sauce to speak of, yet it's on their menu for people who don't know what good food is. This is why locals don't eat here, because it's garbage. read more

I absolutely love this place so I'm sad to give it a negative review. My server was no where to be found so I had to ask someone could my server please come to my table. I ordered fried jumbo shrimp and less than five minutes later my food arrived. I had not even started the salad. Wow I'm happy that the food came quickly but atlas I know the reason why. They had to have been sitting in the kitchen for a while because the shrimps were soggy and warm. Not freshly cooked. I'm surprised because the food is always excellent and the portions are huge. I was given 7 shrimps for $32.00. I guess I'll go to the fish market and buy and cook my own shrimp because it will be hot and fresh. read more

Amazing Seafood, lots and lots of choices, almost impossible to choose from all the specials and combinations that are offered. I had the twin lobster tail platter and the baked clams as an appetizer. It's a lot of food but the service is great and they don't rush you through dinner. One quarter of a star is being very generous!! This was my second AND LAST visit to Sammy's as I was both disappointed and embarrassed. Had a good experience when I bought my sister from Philadelphia to eat here. Was told by someone who resides on City Island to give Sammy's a try. The first experience was nice. Our waitress was awesome and the crab legs platter was plentiful. We were both satisfied with the time spent there. Saturday before Easter Sunday, I highly recommended that a coworker of mine accompany me to Sammy's since we were out and about. That was by far the worse experience I had in a while. Our waiter was horrible, an African American male with graying beard, he never even introduced himself and told us his name. To me, he seemed detached from us as if he didn't want to serve us. We gave our drink orders as well as our food orders, I had to eventually go to him and ask for our Iced Tea as the water served was gross. When asked about refills on ICED TEA, we were told no very sarcastically. I was so amazed that they charged over 3 dollars for such a small serving of iced tea and you would have to pay for another glass if I wanted more. I am not used to that since tea is a very inexpensive product to make. We asked for the manager to find out why they did not refill iced tea and he appeared to act he same as the pathetic waiter. I asked him how they could offer so little beverage which was not comparable to the size of the entree, no answer but: this is our policy. Now the food!! I was very disappointed by the quality of the food received. My baked potato tasted like it was scorched and it was just blah and dry. Both of us ordered fish and we both agreed that the fish was bland at best. Absolutely no taste at all. The bread was good but the complementary corn and rice could have been left in the kitchen. Our sorry waiter never checked on us as we ate our food and had a smug look on his face everytime he came to our table. I feel that the final straw was when we paid our bill and was given our credit card authorization slips to sign, he stayed there at the table and did not leave until we signed our papers and gave them to him. Very rude and extremely low class waiter!! By the way, he got no tip from me at all and my coworker was $1.99 generous in giving him a $2.00 tip. I was recommended to go here because I heard it was good so I came with high expectations. Sadly, Sammy's didn't live up to the newspaper dub it had. The calamari was ok but tasted like frozen. Shrimp cocktail was fine also. The Bronx chowder I had ordered was terrible. It was literally tabasco sauce and rice . The entrees fell short too. My salmon was barely appetizing and the rest of my family's meal was bad. Shrimp Caribbean style was sweet!?! Shockingly bad since I had high hopes. This place should have a renovation too. My best friend and I decided to take our mothers out with our husbands on Saturday instead of Sunday, the actual Mother's Day, to beat the crazy crowds. We got there and were seated immediately. For appetizers, we ordered calamari, a dozen baked clams and some mozzarella sticks. My favorite was the baked clams, I could've definitely ate the whole thing by myself, but that's just rude. Our mothers both had the Stuffed Twin Lobster Tails Platter, needless to say, we needed to-go boxes. If I remember correctly, I had the Jumbo Snow Crab Legs from the Lunch Menu. Delicious and my favorite!! Everyone was pretty much satisfied and stuffed with what they all ordered. It is a little bit of a troop, considering it's location and we are all from Queens. That won't stop me though, the travel is definitely worth it compared to going to your local Red Lobster for "fresh seafood." Also, we had Dorian as our server and she was extremely pleasant. One thing that I was impressed with was their foil trays as to-go containers. I am glad that they make things, as packing crab legs or lobsters, super simple. A great Saturday lunch spot if you're in the area. My husband and I were the first customers of the day and were impressed with the decor and service. The food left nothing to be desired. I had a delicious 1.25lb lobster, which was just enough to satisfy, and my husband had the jumbo fried shrimp, also delicious. The lunch specials come with enough sides to leave you stuffed, and the bread and pickle plate they bring you with the menus was hefty itself. Come hungry! And don't pass up the frozen drinks. Pros: Huge portions, fast service, free valet parking. I would definitely come back, but it's way too expensive to be an ordinary go to restaurant. There is usually a wait, so I recommend making reservations if you can. I always come home with leftovers. I've always had very good service there, and the waiters are always busy, but make sure you have everything you need. Con: Huge prices. The service has only disappointed on nights when the restaurant is crazy busy. But that's to be expected. The risotto is amazing. Literally amazing. I had done some contracting work for them years ago and shook hands with Freddie and I have been meaning to go there ever since. I was initially reluctant since they go to Restaurant Depot and, as a restaurant owner in Rockland County, I know of RD's substandard quality and suspect food handling procedures. It showed. I went recently for a friend's birthday dinner; maybe it's the dish that I ordered, I didn't really eat much from the plate, it was a lot of food and it was good but, I think it was because I didn't know what I was ordering. The other people that were there on our table ordered some good stuff and they were satisfied. Very big portions, two can definitely eat one order, no joke. Everytime I come in the summer I make sure I visit this place. The food is pricey but the portions are huge and it comes with bread, cheese, and salad. We usually go as a group and order one of their huge platters (the crab and lobster feast). The platters are $90 but it seriously feeds about 4-5 people. The menu states that they do charge $5-$10 per person for sharing but I have yet to be charged this fee. It also says that the platters are for two people but I seriously can't see two people eating this by themselves. So $25 per person for crab legs, lobster, shrimp, and rice is not a bad deal. read more
