An amazing thin crust pizza with high quality topping, and the best sauce around. My favorite thin crust pizza. Many locations in MN/Wi with some differences, but for the most part the pizza is pretty consistent. I'd recommend the sausage or Canadian bacon. Try the Kosher if you want to try something unique. read more

Hands down the worst meal I've ever had. Pizza choice was limited to cheese and Mac and cheese. Pizza was cold and tough. Soup was tasteless. Chicken was okay but not enough for the number of customers. Pasta was sticky and the sauce was so bad most customers only ate the pasta. Received a warm chip ahoy cookie at the end of the meal that wasn't even edible. Could have had a better meal at the gas station. read more

An impromptu weekend to Duluth and I'm craving old school Italian. A good red sauce for simple spaghetti and meatballs, generous portion. The meatball although firm, could be a tad softer. Basil got tortellini with a red and white sauce and liked the white better. Both come with a salad with normal iceberg lettuce. The only homemade dressing is ranch. Of course it's mayo based but I tasted mayo more than ranch spices. Needs a better balance. I can't wait to try the pizza next year. read more

We were really excited for the buffet and we got there at 1pm so we figured we still had time for prime buffet food, but that thing looked so gross, the food had clearly been sitting there for way too long and simply did not look edible. Thankfully we didn't just turn around and leave. We ordered a few pizzas and cheesebread (there were 12 of us) and lunch was pretty solid. The taco pizza was fun and the classic pepperoni did the trick. The service was solid and worked for us. The reason this Sammy's gets the same score at the other Sammy's trip I had that went more smoothly is the fact that this location has Coke products. I hope the buffet is improved upon but when in Duluth we will swing by this location for that reason. read more

Remember how going out for pizza felt as a kid? Sammy's is like that. They also have great pasta, in fact that's my preference there actually, but they do pizza like it's supposed to be done. I'm not a big drinker either, but the huge frosty mugs are a treat in their own right and serve some of our favorite local brews, also the pizza buffet at lunch is excellent. I grew up on Sammy's but this is the first time at this location. We got food to go, We were so disappointed, 16-inch pizza with extra cheese definitely wasn't extra cheese. In fact, the center of the pizza barely had cheese at all. The crust was way too thin and seemingly undercooked. Definitely not the crispy awesome Sammy's crust. We also ordered the rigatoni with meatballs and asked for a side of Italian sausage. Rigatoni and sauce were great. Only one meatball and the sausage was either too old or freezer-burned, The garlic bread was a sad excuse, as it was like a slice of sandwich bread. The only reason I'm giving this two stars is because of the pasta minus the meat, An expensive meal for what? Back to the East End as they never fail us. ' read more

Carb reloading @ its best! It's always fun to enjoy your Grandma's marathon victory with crazy friends. This was actually my second dinner on that Saturday night, post marathon. Why not? Still on vacation at the time. Lol the first one was Pho in Two Harbors, MN. And so, I drove back to downtown Duluth and met up with friends around 8pm here at Sammy's Pizza. It was an interesting fun night, since I was done with the marathon, but sad that I would have to return home the next morning. As is life and vacations. Always looking towards the next one. Sammy's Pizza is your fix for pizza and all things Italian here in Duluth. It's your typical Italian restaurant along with a take out pizza window at the entrance. The actual entrance to this place was in the back and not on Central Avenue. Thought that was a little bit interesting. Sammy's Pizza is located at 403 Central Avenue in Duluth. Nearby is a McDonalds in a non de scrip neighborhood that could be anywhere in the USA, but we were in Duluth, MN. There is a large private parking lot fronting the entrance, along with stalls on the side of the building. There's also street parking, where you can find it on Central Avenue. Sammy's accepts all major forms of credit cards, so that's always a plus for me. The pricing here is consistent with other pizza parlors and Italian restaurants. The pizza sizes ranges from a small sampler 12" to an extra large 18". I opted for the large shrimp pizza, which sold for $14, which wasn't that bad of a deal. Considering that I are only half of it, I could have the rest for breakfast the next day. Win win. We sat in the back of the restaurant, which was nice and cozy. There were 7 of us there, only 6 of us ran Grandma's marathon. The service was fast and friendly, however, there was a mixup when she overcharged one beer on a friend's tab, but she realized her mistake and fixed it right away. The server even took the time to take a few group photos of us, which was great too. When the shrimp pizza came out, it definitely looked like it was plain cheese. I questioned it and where there was small bumps in the cheese, there was the small shrimps embedded in there. Crazy stuff, although I had wished the shrimps could've been larger or not diced up before preparing it for the oven. Maybe next time for sure. The shrimp pizza tasted fine and was good with just water for me. I ended up picking up a pint of Ben & Jerry's at a convenience store near my hotel for dessert. I would recommend this place for a nice dinning experience. Nice, homely atmosphere with good service and reasonable prices. Order in and take out if that floats your boat as well. The overall experience for me was good. Had a great time celebrating with friends after the marathon and it will be one of the highlights of the short weekend in Duluth. If I had to do something different, I would have tried out a local beer or two. Still a nice night to enjoy and be merry. Support local! B+ read more

Solid pizza, salads, wings etc. one unexpected delight is they can do cauliflower crust for any pizza which I did and it was delicious. We ordered a Sammys pizza to go this week. We ordered a 16 inch 1/2 pepperoni and the other half a crew special also with double chees. Picked up pizza brought it home opened the box and the comment was made that doesn't eeven look like a good Sammy's Pizza. And it wasn't. !!! The crust was very tough and the bottom wasn't really burned, but more like charred!!!!! And there was barely regular cheese on!! Not the double cheese ordered and paid for. Very very disappointed!! It didn't even taste good. For the first time I can ever recall we threw out more pIzza then we ate! Pizza is pizza, right? Not quite so. Depending on where you go you can end up with just a pile of grease. At Sammy's, the pizza is top notch. I've only found a few other places that I enjoy more, but nothing in the Northern Wisconsin/Minnesota area. The pizza here is a nice thin crust style. The toppings have always been good on my visits, and the crust cooked to perfection. Of all the Sammy's locations, I tend to like the West Duluth location the best. I've been to several of them, but it seems like this location is always on when I visit. If you are a root beer fan, check out the 1919 root beer, it is pretty good! Though if you want a beverage with free refills, go for the regular fountain drinks. If pizza is your thing, don't miss out on Sammy's! read more

Our service was very good and staff was quite friendly. However, I cannot figure out why this is so many people's favorite pizza. It was so so with each pizza having a different flavor to the sauce, which I found odd. We had a group of 14 and even though the buffet was supposed to be over they were quite accommodating and kept providing fresh and hot food. Sometimes you're willing to sacrifice service for the best quality. This would be one of those occasions. read more

Every Sammies I've been to has usually been a four star rating for both food and service. This little gem had a great 4 1/2 star buffet. I mean for what you pay, you definitely get great quantities and super fresh salad which I am very excited for as Old country buffet is no more (now replaced they God awful restaurant).
