I got flat tire, so I went to Sam's to check my tire. They fixed for free and checked the battery too

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO MONRO FOR INSPECTION…read more I had a safety inspection appointment on Saturday, June 13. When I arrived, they told me they couldn't perform the emissions test. I agreed to get the emissions test done at Tire Town and let Monro perform only the safety inspection. After waiting for about two hours, the mechanic came back with a long list of parts that he claimed had to be replaced for the car to pass the safety inspection. They gave me an estimate of $3,200. I honestly couldn't believe it. I'm a mechanical engineer, so I inspected every one of those parts myself. Except for one broken rear coil spring, everything else was in good condition. I didn't argue with them--I simply took my car home. I bought a new rear spring for $56, replaced it myself, and then took the car to another inspection station. The vehicle passed the safety inspection with no other safety-related issues. Based on my experience, it seems the mechanic was finding problems that didn't actually exist in order to generate expensive repair work.

He's the most honest and straight forward mechanic you could ask for. One of my car's issues was with its computer, even though part of the repair went beyond this shops capabilities they still stayed in touch, recommending a car dealer and ensuring the proper repair was accomplished. They charge by the hour and do a great job at keeping you updated on the car's status. I don't plan on going to any other repair shop after working with these guys.

He had it for 2+ weeks. When I went to check on it, he said he replaced the spark plugs, mass air flow sensor, replaced a bolt in the turbo and added oil, for a cost of $509 (negotiated down from $700) and he also acknowledged it did not make it run any better. Then he proceeded to tell me he thinks the turbo is going bad (mind you the turbo does nothing at idle speed). He never hooked it to a computer or checked the codes. I then had it towed back home. I ordered a PCV valve ($52 from FCP Euro) and vacuum pump gasket ($12, my suspected oil leak location). Replacing the two parts took me 3-4 hours in my garage. It has been 1 month and over 500 miles since the repair. No issues. Pretty disappointed that i spent $250 in towing, and over $500 in repairs for them to do shade tree mechanic diagnosis and repair. Also, when the car arrived back at my house the interior was filthy. The car had a tan/beige interior and the front seat and dash had oil and dirt stains all over them. DO NOT GO THERE.

Service is still good…read moreand prices are fair but I'm pretty frustrated at some of the chaos they could have helped prevent in my life! We had a big move ahead of us and I was trying to get preparations in order, including getting a hitch installed to our SUV so that we could pull a trailer for the move. I called and asked for a quote and they gave me one with or without parts in case I wanted to supply the hitch myself. I appreciated that and decided to order a hitch separately to save a little money. When I took it in for my appointment (baby with me waiting the entire time) everything went fine and I was out of there in a little over an hour. Flash forward a few days to when it's time for my husband to pick up the Uhaul trailer... they say we can't actually pick it up because we didn't have any of the necessary electrical wiring to hook up the trailer lights for brakes/hazards. Duh! Why didn't I think of that? Maybe because I'm a new mom with a baby and a big move and a lot going on. More importantly, why didn't anyone at Karch think to even ask about wiring? Who tows a trailer without hooking it up to electrical so you can use brake lights? I think I expected an establishment like theirs to be a little more helpful and at least mention it as a "hey, will you want any wiring for that?". After all, they do that with nearly every other service they provide. Pretty disappointed but the move has now been completed (after my husband had to drive over an hour one way to another place to get same day wiring done) and I am looking forward to finding a new auto shop to use instead of Karch.

"Bring it in, we'll check it out" Had a persistent squeeking noise coming from the right rear (passenger side) of the car. 10 minutes later, in the shop on the lift. (2nd shop that looked at it). 35-40 minutes later CustomerService Rep came out, said they didn't find anything. but showed me a big gash in the rim inside of the the wheel, and a few dings on the frame/cross member and decent dig into muffler. Probably spent an hour or so checking it out and no one could find anything that could have caused the squeeking. Older mechanic with a long Red/White/Blue died beard came over as we were looking it over, "oh, here ya go" he found it the issue in less than 1 minute. Don't ya just love patriots? :) Apparenlty the "bolder or hunk of metal" I hit doing 75MPH clipped off the frame/cross member, hit the bolt housing that controlled the tow of the right rear tire. First they got the "big boy" prybar out, (didn't work), then got the air hammer out, and pryed the metal at the end of the crossmember away from the hinge arm that adjusts the tow of the wheel/tire. -0- charge :) Left with a big smile on my face, and decided to drop by the ATM, pulled out a quick $20 drove back to shop, and gave it to the Patriot for a tip. I even asked upfront if it would take long because another shop had the same tire and could do it immediately. They reassured me it wouldn't be a problem. I walked around for 45 minutes, came back, and my car was still sitting in the exact same spot. When I asked about it, the guy went to the back to "check" and came out saying they were working on it. I told him my car was still parked right out front -- then he goes, "Oh, my bad, he's working on another white Honda." Someone then quickly came out, moved my car to the back, probably because I was standing right there watching. I got a text at 2:29 saying I could track the service, and they didn't finish until 4 PM. If they had just told me from the start that it would take 1.5 hours, I wouldn't have complained -- I would've gone to the other shop instead.

We had previously taken my wife's car here for an inspection and felt like we were significantly overcharged, but gave them the benefit of the doubt. However, I will no longer be giving them any business after my experience this week. I had to have my car towed from the highway last week. They were the closest tow company and I just had it towed right to their garage, hoping that it would save me some money. Through a combination of their expensive parts distributor and the shadiness of the garage, I felt like I was being overcharged by $150-$300 (I know, big range) for a part. I called around and got pricing for that part myself and disputed the cost with the garage. They tried to pass it off on the parts distributor overcharging them, but only showed me the list price on the invoice, while intentionally hiding the net price. I spoke with the parts distributor who, while still significantly more expensive than other places, definitely did not charge them full list price. Miraculously, $150 disappeared off my bill when I spoke with the garage again and pressed further, since I knew the actual cost of the part. I ended up paying about what I "should" have (minus the still too expensive part), but if I didn't know any better I could have really been taken to the cleaners. This all felt very shady and I wouldn't feel confident recommending Dobson's to anyone.
