You know, sometimes you just come across a business that you would never have come across before if it wasn't for the wild haired idea of owning a "motorized" bicycle. One day, I woke up, decided to buy a bicycle, wanted an electric bike then opted for a motorized one. Well... what a decision that was...I had NO idea what was coming next but it was literally a smooth ride from the time of purchase. First I needed to find a bike shop (not a motorcycle shop) to assemble my bicycle, then, I needed a shop to put in the motor. Decided to go with Sam's since he has been here for 25 .. 30 years and has an excellent track record. I love supporting the locals and small businesses. Sam was extremely helpful and nice to me the minute we said "hello". I love the tucked away off the main road, expansive shop with plenty of space to work on motorcycles of all types, and also a great selection of gear and accessories as well. It might be intimidating for most non-motorcycle people to go to this shop and talk to the people who work there as well as the owner...but everyone is GREAT and they don't "bite"... I promise! lol Sam absolutely understood exactly what I needed to have done, and he was extremely pleasant to speak with and quoted me a very reasonable price. His entire staff is also very helpful and nice. When my motorized bicycle was finally all put together... you can imagine how excited I was! Having no previous knowledge of how any of this works, and also my years of bicycle riding were too long ago to even mention... but Sam went over the operation of my bicycle thoroughly and showed me how to change the oil and how to work the clutch. Remember I'm a complete blank slate here, I do not know anything about any of this stuff. Took a Harley to get it to start. Picked it up and immediately tried to get it started. Same issue. Contacted Sam, the owner and he refused to fix the problem. He said "we were doing you a favor as we don't work on Harley's". What an excuse. Also never received a quote for authorization prior to doing the repairs! Total waste of $700+. read more

Way overpriced, left my bike (delivered washed/clean) outside in their dirt lot where I picked it up literally covered in dirt - like had to wipe a clean spot on to sit to ride home. They called and said it would be around $1000 for a standard maintenance. I said my budget was $500 max so they didn't complete full maintenance and charged the full $500. For perspective, in LA...which should be more expensive, the same service at the dealership is ~$250. Again, just standard stuff..change oil/fluids, plug etc. I'll watch YouTube and do it myself next time. Didn't even have peace of mind that quality work was done to ride safely afterwards. These guys did a good job of getting my little Vespa 150 LX up and running after having some issues after being stored for awhile. It was quite a bit more expensive than my shop in Seattle but they also don't have the competition to keep the prices down so it wasn't unexpected. My bike's battery wasn't holding a charge and died about 4 miles from Sam's shop. I called them and they had a battery in stock for my 2003 K1000GT BMW. I managed to jump start the bike and drove it to the shop at about 3 :15 PM expecting to leave it there sine they close at 5 PM. But they took it right in, verified the condition of my current battery and replaced with a new one right away. Now that service in my book! read more

I bought a used motorcycle from Sam and I had to take it back to the shop 3 times in 3 months (less than 700 miles riding) !!!. It kept dying on me for no apparent reason. Furthermore looking back, I know I paid way too much for such a motorcycle, I always had to wait a long time while they "fixed" the bike and I NEVER got even a smile from the owner, either at the first transaction or in my subsequent visits at the shop for them to "fix" the bike, I seemed more like an inconvenience. If they are selling a bike that they worked on, I would stay away but if they bought it and never changed anything then it might be worth a shot. I will never take my bike down there again. I brought my bike into Sam's because it had stopped starting. It is an older scooter that very few mechanics in the desert will even look at. They had it for several weeks as he is always busy, and I told him it was not a priority. Once I got it back it was running fine, a bit on the pricey side for me, but Sam explained that it took many hours to diagnose the problem. I rode it for a few weeks, then it started having the issue again with not starting. I called and asked if he would pick it up, and he kindly waived the fee as I was a bit frustrated. When I picked it up again, it was starting and seemed to be running well except for an issue at higher speeds. I immediately brought it back and they said it probably needed an engine rebuild. I was very frustrated and left angry (not wanting to spend any more money). Sam himself ended up calling me personally to follow up on my frustration and spent time explaining that the cost was because it is an older bike, and that he did not want me to leave an unhappy customer. He explained everything he did to the bike, and that he wanted to make it right. I really appreciated his time and caring, and he really made sure that I felt taken care of. They are a great family owned shop, and I would recommend them especially if you have an older bike. read more

There was no smart ass comments about how they were about to close. The work was proper and fast. They also cleaned my chain and did an oil change. I took my Honda Shadow in problem starting. And a few other things. I rode it twice. It wouldn't start any longer. They have changed me $380 for a carburetor overhaul. Took it somewhere else (professional) the carburetor needed to be rebuilt. Another $500 because everything needed replacing. In short you can't trust Sam's I would never recommend them for anything! This shop and the same owner Sam has been in this same place since Nixon was in office! I just bought my second motorcycle from Sam's. I am very pleased. They don't write warrantees on used bikes, but I had a couple of problems with the first bike I bought from them 2 years ago. It was an older bike with a lot of miles on it but they did not charge any labor and I just paid for the parts. The bike was actually in better condition than I expected and he insisted that I take it for a test ride to make sure that I liked it. The price was very fair, and even though the battery was flat so it couldn't start, he installed a brand new one in minutes....NO CHARGE! so that I could ride it. I went to Sam's because I read he had been in business for a long time there, and for me that's a really good indicator if someone knows how to look after customers! His staff were great and the paperwork was completed quickly even though it was obvious he has a very busy shop and is popular with local bikers for repairs & servicing. Wow!!! website claims years and years of customer service and experience. Twice now I have tried to bring my vintage bike in for repair and have been denied. Turns out that they just flat out will not work on old bikes. Can't get parts, waste of their time, or maybe they just don't make enough money on the repairs. I don't know. It really wasn't explained. You would think that with all of that experience the older bikes would be a snap. As for service..... I find it very perculiar when the owner (Sam) doesn't even acknowledge you when you are at the counter of his shop. A simple hello, eye contact or whatever.... It's really a shame that this is one of the only shops left in this town. Similar to musicians outlet which is also a joke.
