This smaller market a few minutes away from Mr. Chen's has a lot of the snacks and stuff we can never find there. They even have ube flavored treats! Nice to know that I can come here for everything that Mr. Chen's lacks. They even have better customer service here. They definitely packed every item they could into their store. I mean there's so much in here and the space is maybe 1/4 the size of Mr. Chen's. They have a sign in the store that says no pictures... not sure what that's about. Only downside is it's cash only. My family has been patronizing this business for more than 30 years. On Wednesday, I stopped in with my son and daughter to purchase a few treats and household staples. While reaching down to retrieve another item, I accidentally dropped a bottle of soy sauce, which shattered. I immediately informed the employees, accepted responsibility, and apologized sincerely for the accident. At checkout, I was charged for both the replacement bottle and the broken one. While I understand that accidents can result in a loss for a business, I was genuinely surprised that, after more than three decades of loyal patronage, there was no discretion or consideration extended in what was clearly an unintentional incident. Having spent my entire adult life working in customer service, I understand that businesses are often remembered not for how they handle routine transactions, but for how they respond when something unexpected occurs. A small gesture of goodwill in this situation would have reinforced customer loyalty and reflected an appreciation for a long-standing relationship. Instead, the experience left me feeling undervalued as a customer. As a Black customer, this interaction also contributed to a broader concern I have experienced over the years regarding how Black patrons are sometimes treated in businesses that rely heavily on our community's support. I cannot speak to anyone's intentions, but I can speak to how this experience made me feel. It was especially disheartening that my son and young daughter witnessed what I perceived as a lack of grace and customer appreciation. Unfortunately, this experience has ended a relationship with a business my family has supported for over three decades. For those looking for an alternative, I recommend the newer, larger Asian grocery store farther down University. I came in today around 430pm and bought 3 menlo wrappers for eggrolls. One packet definitely has been defrost and put back the wrappers are not even defrosting flat like the other two packets I got. They have a pretty big selection, though not of the additive-free versions of things. There's miso and natto and umeboshi and shimeji mushrooms and sembei and lots of teas. 日本人は来るといいでしょう。It's cheaper and bigger than buying things at Mt Fuji, and nearer than making a trip to Dallas. But it smells sooooooooooo so bad. I'm gonna need to wear a mask next time. Also lots of items don't have expiration dates or are unpriced, or are in unlabeled plastic bags. I use to love this place but I don't go there anymore for certain reasons: He wants check or cash only. No cards. I always pay cash because I don't have a check book. He gets cash only and he charges a percent of tax!!! So he's getting tax percentage & cash only. Must be nice. I've been going here for years. Trust me if I lived in Dallas. I wouldn't be complaining. Another thing. When he checks out. The numbers and items are not clear. They're just a bunch of letters and numbers. For example if you bought meat. It'll say meat. It's not specific: chicken, beef, etc. WATCH YOURSELF when he's checking out. Most of the whole Vietnamese community knows. But still be careful. Every time I go there, there's ways something wrong on my ticket & I have to tell them all the time. It's very frustrating because this place has been here for a very long time and this is reputation. I've got scammed a couple of times already! This place is amazing and I am so glad that I live in Little Rock because I would make the drive if I lived in Conway or Cabot. From the Trung Nguyen coffee to the Kimchi, the noodle bowls, udon noodles, and every type of rice stick. This place is a treasure in our town. Do not buy your soy or fish sauce from Kroger or Wallyworld. Tell them what you typically like to cook and ask them what is the best soy, fish sauce, or sesame oil, etc. For instance, for regular everyday needs, Kikkoman is perfectly fine, but for making an adobo, a much darker soy is better, and for that, I go with Pearl River Bridge. Panda Brand is the best oyster sauce for garlic noodles. They also have woks and traditional plateware. They have fresh produce and they get in live crawfish seasonally. It's nice having a bigger Asian store in the area. They have a nice selection of Asian groceries, but I hate knowing I'm getting ripped off while I'm buying my essentials. :( If you want to try Sam's Oriental and you'd be lost in an Asian store, I'd recommend their selection of candy and ice cream. I love tis store. I've been shopping here for almost three years, I live 3 hours away and come here every 1-2 months. Defenitely worth the drive. They carry not only Korean but also Vietnamese, Filipino, Japanese, Indian, pretty much all the asian ingredients you would want or need. They're prices are great and the owner and his wife and super nice, cool Christian couple! They carry fresh vegetables, frozen foods, dishes, pots & pans, even souvenirs and plants. I used to stock up on that wet nori stuff, mail myself 6 or 8 jars, whenever I went home to Hawaii. Well they have it here! And Ume. And the delicious, salty furikake-like stuff I put on ochazuke! It's actually cheaper at Sam's than in Hawaii. Then there's the ono cellophane noodle stuff they cook up and have on Saturdays (until they run out). And the scratchy Japanese washcloths. If I could get them to stock Royal Creme Crackers, Guava Jelly and Cherry Li Hing Mui, I wouldn't have to mail myself anything, when I go home. read more

I visited yesterday for the first time to pick up a curry. I can't say I will ever go back, and just cannot give them a good recommendation, for two reasons: 1. A curry package (the exact kind I went looking for) that was marked as $1.00 in two inch high numbers in magic marker was rung up at the register as $3.64. 2. They do not take credit or debit cards. I have frequented the store a handful of times with my friend who is of Asian decent. I myself am Caucasian and on several instances I felt as if I were disrespected while visiting the store. My mother and I go to the store because we have celiac disease and can find a good amount of rice products. On our most recent occasion we were looking for mung bean noodles. We tried several times unsuccessfully to get the owner's attention, but he helped every other shopper in the store before finally coming to help us. We asked him about mung bean noodles and he pointed us to the direction of the noodles and followed us down the aisle. He pointed to a package of noodles and told us that they were mung bean noodles. We aren't able to read the packaging and believed him. However after he walked away a nearby shopper approached my mother and told her that he was lying, and that he was trying to sell her sweet potato starch noodles.
