Ordered carryout today, small pizza with sausage, onions and green olives. The crust was cooked perfectly along with the toppings. I've been ordering carryout here for the last year and have not been disappointed on any order. They also have chocolate cake that is really delicious!! I appreciate that they open early in the day. I ordered a pizza from them once it arrived, the driver told me I had to come to his car to get the pizza, he didn't want to walk up the stairs to get to my apartment. When I paid with my card and gave the driver his phone back, he hit a button and charged me $245 for a $24 pizza. When I got upset and demanded he refund my card immediately, the driver then started screaming in my face (nose to nose) saying it was my fault. When I called the pizza place they finally refunded my card but when I told them about the driver and what he had done to me, they didn't seem to care. Never ever again. That driver is nothing but a coward and if they allow their employees to behave like that, then I'm pulling my business! I often ordered the pizza because it's decent and close to my house, but the Italian food is the worst. Ordered mostacholli dinner and meatball was raw on the inside (pink), soggy and tasteless. Garlic bread was soggy, smushed almost flat and tasteless. No crunch at all. The meatball was an extra $2.25 and bread was an extra $4.00 not included in the meal. They sent no side salad which was part of the meal. When I called, there was no apology, but the manager arguing that the meatball was not raw. I should have ordered from Maciano's. Sam's just lost a customer!! The manager is as nasty as the food. read more

I've been coming to Sam's pizza since I was a little kid, I'm 30 now but I will never go back after tonight. Sad. Their food has declined over the years so much. Tonight, I ordered a medium pizza, she said the price was $14 without delivery, I said it says $11 online, she tells me the price went up. Well, legally, they are supposed to honor the prices they have posted. But they said they couldn't do that. I said whatever because I wanted the pizza. She said it would take 45 minutes to an hour to get to me. I called after an hour and 15 minutes, she said it should be on the way, with attitude. I asked if she knew how long as I'm at work and don't have that long of a break, she couldn't give me a time. The driver gets me my pizza after an hour and a half and it's literally cold. The cheese had hardened. And I'm at work so I had no way of heating it up, I just ate a couple pieces cold. So I decided to call the store and talk to a manager. Big mistake. I literally talked to Sam. He was so rude. He just interrupted me and said to bring it back and he'll refund me. I said I'm at work I can't bring it back. He said bring it in tomorrow... you want me to bring in a pizza the next day to you to get a refund? How does that make sense? I went to say something else and he HANGS UP ON ME. My jaw dropped. I immediately called back and they just placed me on hold. So I called again, placed me on hold. Then a nice girl, Emily (probably the only nice employee they have), answered and I explained what just happened. She apologized but I could literally hear Sam in the background shouting profanity at her about me! I said I can hear him.... She said "I'm so sorry". Absolutely ridiculous and sad. Sam's, you lost a lifetime customer. And I will be telling my family and friends too. I could get a better pizza for $5 in the frozen section. This place should not be open anymore. read more

As a Rockford native, I've grown up with and always loved Sam's Pizza! Unfortunately, I had such a negative experience today that I will not be returning. When checking out, I signed the receipt and pushed it back to the lady checking me out. Apparently, she took this offensively and said: "Don't throw that at me b****." I was appalled. Today we ordered from Sam's for lunch at my office. They seem to have a few decent specials that drew us in. The pizza arrived extremely fast, almost 15 minutes before the anticipated delivery time. Unfortunately that is where my excitement stopped. The Pizza itself is about as middle of the road generic as it gets. The Dough wasn't very good, the sauce was almost non existent and the cheese was overbearing. The flavor was on par with a lot of the places i've been in the rockford area. Rockford is NOT a pizza town. I think this place is worth trying though if this type of pizza is what you like. I personally don't care for it, but that doesn't mean you wont like it. I wouldn't turn this pizza down if it was offered to me, but i wont be calling them to order food any time soon. read more

After Seven years I am sad to say this is the last time I will purchase from Sam's. I placed my order at 5:43 PM and did not receive it after calling a couple of times, being told that they were backed up and my pie was coming out of the oven. Low and behold about 10 minutes later the pie shows up and cold, they gave me boneless wings when I requested bone in. When I tried to talk to the manager, I was placed on hold for over 20 minutes. Prior to calling I called my credit card company they suggested that I try to resolve it with Sam's. I tried but after waiting 20 minutes for a manager only to have him argue with me about the service I received. The manager tried several times to give me store credit for the wings but became rude when I said that I was extremely disappointed in the (lack of) service I received and that I would not do trade with them, and I won't. Fries were cold and hard. Not worth the $11.22 i spent. Had to throw the soggy mess in the trash, its like the whole sandwich was waterlogged. My brother ordered the exact same thing i did the other night, same experience. Over $22.00 for 2 orders that were thrown in the trash reseptical. The wait and $ was definitely not worth it for delivery. The lettuce was old and soggy, the bacon was undercooked and chewy, the hamburger itself tasted like it was frozen and not fresh, dry and overcooked and lacked seasoning, the bread was dry and hard. Then the onion rings were greasy soggy and not fully cooked, they were also not separated before being fried and when you pulled them apart they were doughy still and not cooked thoroughly. I've had more than one bad experience with this place, and I never really order and if I do the only thing they have going for them is the spicy shrimp. Definitely wont be ordering again. The two stars are only because the food was good and the waiter staff and cashier were friendly. But none of that mattered when we got our bill, and each item was $4 more than what is listed on the menu! We were not told when ordering that the menu prices were wrong. There wasn't any note on the menu either. I was shown a small handwritten note several feet from the entrance that said prices were higher than on the menu. I have no problems with the current prices, only that we should have been informed by wait staff and a note on the menu so we weren't deceived, misinformed. Or how about a new menu with accurate prices, even a paper one would work. I was told the prices were changed a while back and that many other customers have also complained about not knowing the price increase. We had never been there before, so how could we know that the prices have increased? We will not be back because of this. There are plenty of other good Italian restaurants in Rockford. read more

Had a driver, an older man became rude after he was sent to the wrong side of town to deliver an order my son had called in. I had just came in town from Kansas when I get a call from the driver. Not knowing the order was called in until I asked what address it was to go to. By the third call to me I told him my son was waiting and to knock on the door. He said he could not do that and became rude. He had delivered to that business a few time before. By the time I finally got to the address the driver was there and still rude. He told my son he don't go to no ghetto and knock on doors. My son told him he had no right to speak to his mother in the manner he did. He was told to take the order and leave and as he left he was yelling out of his car. Did tell him before he left I was going to call and report him, his remark was to go ahead. We went there yesterday for a birthday party and found this place has really went downhill in my opinion. The pizza was just ok, and it used to be so much better. And we ordered a really big salad, which was pretty good, except they didn't bring any crackers or bread sticks with it. And we found out they charge for bread or rolls. I am used to Italian restaurants bringing bread of some sort, especially with a huge family style salad. The service was pretty good. But of course we were like the only ones there for most of the time. And they only have 2 beers on tap now and they used to have Amber Bock or Rolling Rock on tap. They sent the old order out and said they would offer a $10 credit or switch out. I said to switch it out and nothing.......No call back....no pizzas. Beware. The quality of service is the best part of this restaurant. We came here and were sat in the second room of the building as we had a larger group. Being sat by the door, we were freezing for the whole night. Our waiter was very exuberant and nice for it being 8pm, and brought our dishes with such pleasure; however, he would come sparingly, so if you wanted to order something else off the menu, you had quite a wait to wonder if it was really worth it. The quality of the food was decent; I had the garlic bread, which was a bit chewy and tough, and my friends ordered a pizza and manicotti dish. The dishes were meh; nothing exquisite, but not subpar either. The game-changer was the fried cheesecake! It was everything we expected and more. Think of a chimichanga filled with warm cheesecake, coated with cinnamon sugar crystals. Not too sweet, but not bland either. Good job, Sams, good job. If you're looking for some food and don't really care about taste, this place is definitely on the radar. read more

Oh my goodness, what a wonderful pizza.!!! I pulled into town without having eaten in several hours and this wonderful young man on the other end of the phone set me up with a pizza delivery to my hotel, and it was perfect.!!! I told him that I'm from California and would love to have a real Chicago pizza and he sent me a touch of heaven.!!! Not to mention that it's the middle of the night.!!! Good pizza. Horrible customer service. It had been an hour since I had ordered the pizza and when I called they said that the card was declined. I said you must've written it down wrong or put it in wrong because there's money on there. They said they called me and left a message. Total lie. I got no message. Told them to try the card again and lo and behold it went through... They said "It went through now. We will send it out." and then hung up. No apology. No offer of a discount or free anything... Where do you start? My wife and I have eaten here three times now. The first time was over a year ago, and it was not very good. We had two pasta diners both arrived luke warm and the sauce was very bitter, the service was ok though. Then about a month ago we decided to give them another chance. The food was very good and it came to the table Hot and again the service was just ok, nothing to write home about. With that said last, Friday we decided to eat there again, what a mistake! The service was not very good, you hardly saw your waitress, as for the food it was horrible. First off the salad was fine, the two pasta dinners were another matter they were barely luke warm and again the sauce was so bad I could not eat half of it. The sauce was very bitter and had a taste of vinegar in it, however the meatball was good other then being just warm. In fact later that night I started getting sick and had a very bad case of indigestion, something I seldom ever get. I would not recommend anyone eating here, we gave them three tries and two of three did not turn out very well. Not sure what they are doing in the kitchen but I have had way better pasta out of a jar then the three time I have eaten here. It is sad because they are close to where we live and that makes it convenient, but we can't afford to take that chance again. Last night we drove 15 miles to Bravos in Rockton,IL and it was fantastic! Food was hot, and very very good, and our waitress was never far away and check on us often. Italian beef is awesome....they always forget to give me my au juice though.....the pizza is pretty good....really nice cheese flavor. The wings are ehh ok ... Garlic cheese bread is good...when i have gotten a to go cheese gbread it was so sloppy all the cheese fell off before i ate it....over all a good place. The pizza is ok but their customer service sucks. I ordered 2 carry out pizzas last night. When I got home I noticed they had screwed up the ingredients on one of them. When I called to complain all they would offer to do was make another but I had to come get it. If I did that my other pizza would get cold.
