I move Sam's and a LOT of people in Eugene do too!!! It's always busy. The food is good, especially Friday's prime rib dinner. Breakfast is my favorite. Get the breakfast burrito, it's yummy. There are TVs everywhere and the bartenders are so great they will turn it to whatever you want. It's definitely a Duck bar which I love. The thing I think sets Sam's apart is their service. We have been going to Sam's Place for 15 + yrs. Since the change in ownership the food has really taken a dive, primarily since the cook for years left. Just had breakfast there again today , the flat iron steak was rare( ordered medium rare) sent back, still bloody rare. The medium egg was crispy around the edges and browned on the back( to me a brown egg is a burnt egg) . the scrambled eggs were cooked great but, the request for cheese was forgotten! Seems like 3 strikes, YOU'RE OUT!! The service was great, the atmosphere is good, but what's a bar without a GOOD cook- mediocre! read more

Haven't been to Sam's place for years! The remodel that they have done over the years is nice and clean. I can't believe my favorite chef is still there Diane! She is the best! The bartenders were really nice and they do tableside service there as well. I definitely recommend heading over there when you're in the area and getting a chef salad! Their smoked prime rib on Friday night is so good and the portion size is crazy. It comes with a salad and baked potatoes with all the fixens. The bar tenders know how to create excellent beverages that are not over the top with liquor or watered down to where you feel cheated. A bonus they also have is a humidor with a decent selection of cigars along with a covered patio where you can step out and savor your stogie. I flew to Eugene for the weekend to attend Colorado-Oregon game. My cousin took me to this excellent place to hang out. It sure has its touch on its best BBQ type Dives. The server has done her job!! I had this amazing prime ribs. Of course it was smoked flavor. I ended up couldn't eat it all. It was twice its size than what my tummy could take. I've been coming here for years. Since Jim sold earlier this year, Sam's has made a complete dive to the bottom. Recently, I got the French dip, and it was 1/3 of the portion. Today, I got the Sal Jackets, and again 1/3 of the size and portion they used to be. Both items at a greatly decreased size, and increased price. The size of the jackets are the size of a large oyster.Unfortunately, I have to find a new place to call home for Oregon and NFL games. So disappointing. read more

My husband and I really wanted to go out to breakfast on a Sunday morning but it was a million degrees outside. So the hubby suggested we go to a place that offers a pretty good breakfast and also happens to have no windows. Normally I would find that to be a very odd suggestion but on this particular day it was a genius move. Sam's Place has a very casual vibe. Their mimosa was served in a pint glass. (still yummy though). The walls are covered with TVs airing whatever sports are playing at the moment. They offer the standard American breakfast options like omelettes, eggs with meat, biscuits and gravy, etc. I ordered their veggie omelette and I was actually surprised at how good it was. And I can say that they are very well air conditioned. This would be a great place to have a hangover breakfast at. Consistent affordable food. (I find the drinks less consistent but the pours are generous). This place definitely has a sports bar vibe with LOTS of TVs and no windows. It is very close to home, so sometimes a great option for an affordable, decent meal. I've honestly never had any food there that I didn't like. But I especially enjoy the potato skin appetizers. Lots of great appetizer options really. We recently tried the fried green beans so we could pretend we were eating healthy and they were delicious. Great place to drop in with friends or watch the game. Traveling and looking for a nice to place to eat this side of town. The food photos brought me in as I like steaks and salmon. I was delighted with the comfy rustic college town decor with screens everywhere. I really like the table in the bar so I can watch the cooks work etc. The chef happened to be taking photos of the next night's special. When they asked me what I wanted to order I pointed at his dish. He said you can buy this one as it was just cooked:) It was salmon with a creamy mustard sauce partially wrapped in dough. A Salmon "Wellington" if you may. I devoured the salmon, savory bed spinach and potatoes and sipped my well crafted MVP Manhattan. Chris and Kendra at the bar were so welcoming and fun to chat with. I would have to say this is a little hidden gem in the rough industrial neighborhood of Eugene, and if you didn't know about it you wouldn't know it was there. Sam's is great in every respect; except the bar stools. A large percentage of Sam's customers are 50+, myself included. Only a small percentage of the bar stools have backs. The backless stools can get very painful after sitting for a very short period of time. Whenever a stool with a back becomes available someone grabs it and drags it clear across the room to wherever they're sitting. I have had to leave several times simply because my back hurts to much to continue sitting on a backless stool. If the owner would at least start changing out the backless stools I think it would be a wise investment in the long run. Can't finish without pointing out that ALL THE EMPLOYEES ARE GREAT. They make a day or evening at Sam's seem like a family event. It's definitely a place "where everyone knows your name". read more

I visit Sam's Place from time to time. I met a friend there today for lunch, had a bacon cheeseburger and fries. It was absolutely perfect. The bun was fresh, the bacon was cooked with just the right amount of chewiness/crispness, the burger was cooked the right amount, the vegetables were fresh. The fries were perfectly cooked, golden brown, crispy and salted to the correct amount. Again, it was just absolutely perfect. The staff there were very friendly and attentive, as usual. read more

Went to Sam's late on a Sunday morning October 3rd the service was very poor and slow waited 20 minutes for someone to ask if we needed drinks and menus, the food quality was bad. Later that day I noticed there were two charges too on my account from Sam's one was for my bill the other was not for my bill. Would not recommend going eating there. read more

Came for lunch...it's my first time here...great little place. Food is ok, I think I just ordered the wrong thing, special turkey mushroom Swiss burger $8. Fries were great and everyone else's food looked great, especially the salads. Lots of people here but no wait. Nice and bright (for a bar) and lots of tv's. So this review has been a long time coming. I wanted to ensure that I had my business page set up because the Sam's on Wilson Family HANDLE ALL MY BUSINESS. Jim White and his crew have always been more than helpful and willing to make me and my plans work there. I can call Courtney, and she will have a table ready for me and a crew or intimate for dinner for two. Terry has taken care of me from a single manosa to a networking breakfast for 30. Marci has been a star behind the bar. But it all came together during this whole pandemic thing. I had to re-launch my biz. And have an anniversary party for my online networking group featuring a prominent speaker. I then had to provide music and entertainment for my closest friends and respected colleagues in the Eugene Springfield biz community. Friday nights are smoked prime rib and fresh chowder night ... $14 for the Smoked prime and $4.95 for a bowl of killer chowder... The prime is lightly smoked and comes with a huge side salad and a healthy portion of whatever you want.. they served my cottage cheese in its own bowl for example which is good because I love fresh cottage cheese. I loved it all ! To make the night particularly interesting was a complete stranger who, when he learned it was my first time there, bought me a bowl of the chowder - just to be kind ! What a nice guy! I had never seen him before - random acts of kindness have to be passed on so I'll be doing that.. Especially because the chowder was literally the best Ive ever tasted !! And I know why! They use real cream and the clams are large and super fresh and tender ! Ive never had clams this tender in chowder before ... very impressive. All in all a good night!
