The plot of the show is based during the summer of 1983, in the sweltering heat of Houston. It talks about an unlikely friendship which is formed when a couple of mid-western rubes with uncertain futures meet up with a slick New Yorker on the run from his past. The disappearance of a WWII artifact(A gun) sets off a chain of events that proves that nothing changes the present like a blast from the past. The characters that populate this new comedy by real-life friends Woody Harrelson and Frankie Hyman are based on real people, though the events depicted are fiction and the names have been changed to protect the not-so-innocent. The cast members did a great job spceially Tyler Jacob Rollinson who played Frankie and debutant Shannon Garland who played Batina. The fun part was also the clips shown on the big screens as soon as plot finished during the show. Definitely one the best shows I have seen till date!

A friend from…read moreout-of-town had heard great things about the show from it's Off-Broadway run, so we bought $49.50 mezzanine tickets (thanks, BroadwayBox), which were fine 'cause the theater is small. Since the storyline revolves around a traffic accident, I was expecting something dark and Arthur Miller-like, but I was very much mistaken. "Next Fall" turned out to be a smartly written, humorous show with interesting characters, events, and dialogue. The conversations flow quickly with wit and lightness. A hilarious scene was when Luke, a gay man not yet out to his parents, was rushing to hide his purple Teletubby plush toy in an effort to gay-proof his apartment for his dad's visit. The play is endearing, and I highly recommend it to anyone for a nice theater experience. Ladies, for once, the restroom line is in our favor. With so many gay couples seeing the show, there is hardly a wait for the ladies' room during intermission. Student rush tickets are subject to availability (basically, not guaranteed for every show), could be partial view, and are sold two hours prior to the show. Tickets are limited to two per valid ID at $26.50 each.

"didn't that guy sleep with Miranda on Sex & the City?"). What's it about? I've heard about Larry Kramer's play for years and how it was a must-see no matter what production…read moreI chose to see. Barbra Streisand was so moved by it that she held onto the movie rights for years until Kramer and she parted ways due to the old stand-by, "creative differences". I can understand their passion over the material since it represents a seminal moment when the AIDS epidemic was taking hold of New York City in the early 80's,and out of a combination of fear and contempt, it was being ignored behind a wall of government silence. The limited-engagement 2011 production (playing at the Golden Theatre until July 10) is not only a testament to Kramer's viscerally powerful work, it is one of the most moving productions you are ever likely to see on Broadway. The story follows a group of friends and colleagues who become tightly intertwined by the toll the AIDS virus takes on each other both physically and emotionally. At the center of this maelstrom is writer Ned Weeks, the gay Jewish founder of a prominent HIV advocacy group who alienates those around him with his draining, often pedantic public confrontations. Nobody else, including his closeted journalist lover Felix Turner, is prepared to face the scrutiny of a judgmental public willing to view the virus as a punishment for their supposedly deviant lifestyles. Their arguments threaten to eradicate their mutual goal of creating the awareness necessary to fight the disease. In their corner with barely concealed anger is the imperturbable Dr. Emma Brookner, who daily faces a never-ending queue of patients with no hope for survival. Directed with minimal staging by Joel Grey and George C. Wolfe, the play soars on the amazing performances of the cast. Two actors stand out among the ensemble - Joe Mantello who brings the raging heart to Ned in magnitudes that compel with his strident fearlessness, and in her Broadway debut, Ellen Barkin who plays Brookner with abrupt directness culminating in a heart-wrenching monologue that induced wild applause at the performance I saw. The rest of the cast is almost as stellar - Jim Parsons ("The Big Bang Theory") as a Southern outcast providing the play with the little comic relief it offers, Lee Pace ("Pushing Daisies") as the conflicted Citibank executive Bruce Niles, Mark Harelik as Ned's hopelessly straight brother Ben, and John Benjamin Hickey as the weakening Felix. Just when you think the play will turn into a complete polemic, it becomes enthralling in ways you don't quite expect. The growing list of victims from the disease - illuminated on the walls of the set - packs the necessary punch, but it's really Ned's devastating journey that resonates the most in the soul. And leave it to Kramer to have the last word as a leaflet is handed out after the show that points to how little the epidemic has been curtailed in the intervening years. If you're in NYC for the next month, by all means, go see this production.

The final phase of Roy's life have previously been portrayed by Al Pacino at Cohn in Angels in America on Broadway in 2010 at the Signature Theatre.

I had the privilege to watch this show with some yelp friends before the official opening date. Roy Marcus Cohn was an attorney who gained prominence during Senator McCarthy's investigations into communist activity and the Army-McCarthy hearings in 1954. He befriended Barbara Walters and Ronald Reagan during his lifetime. This show examines Roy's friendships and relationships with his mom, housekeeper, lover, Julius Rosenberg, as well as Walters and Reagan. We were let in the theater about 10 minutes prior to the show's starting time. Bathroom is located upstairs on the second floor and is very clean. They also have some snacks and beer/wine upstairs in the lounge area. The Lion Theater is an intimate theater. It looks like it would fit about 50 people or so. The crews fully utilize the aisle space and incorporate them as part of the show. This production's headline is "a serious end-of-life comedy about one of the most enigmatic and controversial men in American history." After watching it, I would say its seriousness definitely outweigh its comedy effects. There were some audience chuckling here and there. But it is hard to justify it as a comedy from the audiences' reactions. Because I don't know too much about Cohn, there were times where I was confused about what I was seeing on stage. I think the actors all did a great job. Definitely an interesting way to spend your afternoon/evening. I would recommend this show to people who are familiar with that point of history and/or Cohn.

Not sure how entertaining this would be to NON Harry Potter fans. No intermission - runs for about 80-90 minutes which is just right.

It's a fast-paced play with lots of inside Harry Potter jokes, so come prepared to pay attention and with your HP knowledge in full force! It's a laugh out loud comedy, and at one point I was laughing so hard I was crying. It was such a great evening out! The actors and actresses did a great job portraying their roles as Puffs going to school the same time as Harry Potter and his gang. The comedy is on point and you could tell the actors threw in a little improv here and there. I always appreciate that. It's always funny to see the other actors on stage trying not to laugh at the random things said. Puffs is performed at New World Stages, which houses small theaters, and great seating! My friend purchased our tickets off of Groupon. We were in the last row, all the way at the top, and the seating was fantastic! Definitely not far away at all and great sight lines. I had a wonderful evening watching Puffs, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is a hardcore Harry Potter fan.
