This unscrupulous and predatory tow truck operator/service station will grossly overcharge you and then demand cash (They will not accept credit cards) for towing services. My car broke down on Route 17 earlier this week and the State Trooper who responded to my call for assistance called Sam's to tow me to their garage. The distance of the tow was a little more than a mile, but these thieves charged me $378! They would not take credit cards and demanded cash. They wouldn't even drive me the 1 mile round trip to the Bank of America ATM to get cash... I had to walk. Needless to say, I wouldn't let them work on my car (As it turns out, the problem was a bad fuel pump). Instead, I had it towed to Rea Ford's Service Department in Monticello, who sent a tow truck from Monticello to Liberty to pick the car up. How much did the 10 mile tow truck trip from Liberty to Monticello cost me? $150! Avoid Sam's Towing and Recovery/Sam's Service Station at all costs! read more

2016 sams towed my car after I was hit in back. Trunk crushed to back seat. Still to this day my car fills with water in trunk, and passenger front and back floor. I had ankle deep water in my car. They are or were the worst rip off artists ever. My insurance is reopening claim and sending my car to get fixed correctly. They should be sued for aggravation caused to me. My partner took their car here for a broken taillight only to have the mechanic to a shotty bandaid solution of putting in too big a fuse and of course, a fire started while they were driving it and now the dealership is saying The entire wire harness is burnt out... Thats 2500 plus the 400 diagnostic, and then most likely the Computer and fuse box needs replacing. THEY HAVE TO BUY A NEW CAR NOW. ALL BECAUSE OF A STUPID TAILLIGHT AND THE METHOD OF HOW IT WAS DEALT WITH. Avoid this establishment like the plague that it is!!! read more

Icy night, driving home from work, hit West Broadway in monticello and a patch of ice swerved all over and into a ditch. First place I could think of that's open at 12am for 24 hour towing services was Sam's Towing. Looked up their number and called. The guy who answered the phone asked me where I was, i told him west Broadway (12 minutes from their shop in liberty) he asked me why I didn't call somewhere else "local" in a pretty rude tone. I couldn't even think of another place and asked the guy where else I could call I just wanted my car pulled out of a ditch but it was 12am!! He told me to call 2 other places nearby that were CLOSED. Proceeded to tell me that he was so swamped and didnt even know what to do next. And that they couldn't even help me. Luckily I thought of Prestige and they came within 10 minutes were super nice and pulled the car out for $70. Don't ever use Sam's- rude and definitely has no good customer service at all. read more

Our son was driving upstate and, after stopping for gas at a station not far from Sam's Service Station, his car would not start. Sam's towed it to their their station and proceeded to not only fix the car, they cleaned it inside and out and made sure that it was totally and completely repaired so that we would not have the problem again. They did all of us without our even being there - our son had to leave the car he (and we) were back at home in New York City. They did all of this for such a low price that we insisted they charge us more! They were available 24/7 when we called to check in and simply could not have been more professional, helpful, kind and all-around wonderful. This was especially valuable and meaningful to us since we were long distance and our son was alone when his car broke down. Thank you Sam's! read more

This place is a complete scam. They claimed to have replaced all of my break pads and rotors 2 months ago. My car started squeaking a week ago. I brought it in again, and they said the front break pads and rotors looked like they had never been replaced. They claimed to have no record of me ever being in there (even though I paid with a credit card), and then proceeded to charge me for the same service they claimed to have given my car previously. This place took advantage of me because I am a new car owner. Don't ever go there. They will lie to you. read more

I am not the type of person to write reviews online but I am doing it because I had a really bad experience with this place. Hoping whoever reads this will consider service somewhere else. So my car broke down on route 17, right before the 100A exit. I called state trooper and they sent tow truck from SAMS service station. This happened the night before Thanksgiving.I asked them to check my car (a Toyota) out for me but they said they wouldn't be able to do it till Friday. On Friday, I got a call from Ryan from SAMS and he told me that the timing belt broke and the valves are bent. He told me that I would have to replace the entire engine. The cheapest used engine they got is $1500 plus $1000 in labor. In disbelief, I called up a toyota dealership and other mechanics near my town and they told me that my car has a non-interference engine and a broken belt will not damage the engine. I decided to have my car tow back to my town and have a local mechanic work on it. But SAMS were going to charge me $225 for storage (3 days total including Thanksgiving), +$89 diagnose +$100 initial towing and $600+ for towing it for another 100 miles to the Toyota dealership. Total was $1000+ but I was able to talk it down to $750. I had to pay in cash and no receipt. Turns out all my car needed was a new timing belt and water pump, which only costed me $600. SAMS were going to replace my engine with 87K miles for an used engine with 104K miles and charge me $2500. To sum it up, this place is a scam. Stay away. read more

Horrible service. I got a flat tire and the guy from sam's couldn't get the tire off so he towed me to the shop. While in the car he was complaining about his job and saying he only tows trucks and wasn't a maniac but no one else wanted to come out and help me. When we got to the shop. I stood outside watching until one of the men told me that I could go to the waiting room. I then waited for 30-45 minutes while four guys from sam's tried to change my tire. When they said it was done I asked if all the other tires were fine and if it was all good to drive? One man replied, "I don't know it should be if he did everything." I thought he was joking and then realized he left to find the guy who towed me. He couldn't find he, so he said, "everything should be fine." They said the spare tire was on. I left and the next week I went to my local Auto Shop. They told me my spare was in the trunk and that they must have sprayed the inside of my tire to temporarily fix it and then just put it back on. They said it could have been super dangerous driving on this tire and that it didn't have much air in it. I just thought my spare was a regular sized tire so I didn't realize this. Currently in the process of getting my two rear trailing arms replaced after the tow driver towed my car while it was stuck in park. Didn't know that he could go under the car to switch it in neutral, and didn't drag my car using the frame, or use dollies. read more

So here goes the story. My car was crashed on the highway and was towed to this shop, as a newbie I didn't know that there's a spare tire in my car which they could have changed it for me so that I can still drive back. Instead of doing that, they offered me to have my car stored and repaired at their place. They rented their car to me, even I kept on asking about the car rental fee, they just assured me that they will deal with my insurance company and there's nothing for me to worried about. I was too naive to believe that they were so kindhearted. After thinking for a couple days, I decided not to have my car repaired at their place. They said no problem and handed me this invoice with a list of breakdowns. The total came out to be over $1500. They charged 450 for the tow (that was just 5miles), another 450 for car rental (3days), 240 for the storage, and a bunch of other miscellaneous charges. I argued with them but didn't help, I ended up paying for everything. Not a single penny less nor any guilt. This is my first time writing a review. If I have to say one more thing about this shop, I wanted to say, screw you, I sincerely hope you can go out of business tomorrow. And to other folks, please stay away from this place. Happy to add my review to the long list of 1-stars. Had my car towed last night, and the guy not only popped my tire but told me to floor it into oncoming traffic. He also had the ability to pull my car out of the snow in one fell swoop, but for some reason chose not to. Was condescending the entire time and when we arrived at the service station was more concerned with getting food for himself than helping me. I somehow ended up being left alone in the building by myself which doesn't seem safe? Never go here. read more

The quality of work (mine was body shop work and insurance paid) is good, but if you are looking for good customer care, find another place to go. Also be careful that they do not try to overcharge your insurance. They tried to do that to mine $185.00 to tow under half a mile. Nope don't think so, they took it down to $50.00 when I caught them. I brung in my tire to this place. I took the tire off myself, washed the tire, found the nail and even showed the mechanic to put in a plug for me, this guy 'BRIAN' charged me $25.00 for a plug!!!!!!!!!!! Are you freaking kidding me?? He told me when I thought he made a mistake, he said..."This ain't the city my friend" I would never go back to this place, or recommend this place to anyone. If you went anywhere else they would charge $5.00 to $10.00....For that I went to Auto Parts and bought a plug kit for $8.00. read more

Do not rent from here! Very unprofessional! It is not their 1st means of business and they do not care about the car rental part of it! I reserved a car weeks in advance. The day of, they didn't have any cars to give me, I had to wait 2 hours, having to cancel reservations elsewhere, losing MORE time and $. Finally they give me a car and it sounded like the wheel was going to fall off! I had to use it, they didn't have anything else. When I returned it, they finally charged my credit card 2 weeks later....and then OVERCHARGED me on top of that, for gas that I HAD put in, but they failed to check when I came in. I have had so many problems with this business it is so ridiculous. I will NEVER use them or their other business in Rock Hill EVER AGAIN! read more
