Great subs ( grinders). Fresh baked bread, fresh veggies and the sandwiches are loaded up and not skimpy. The french fries or baked not deep-fried and very tasty. The place is not much to look at. The service is great but very matter of fact not overly friendly.

Whats missing here? Umm....the fillings!! One slice of folded meat per quarter and sprinkled toppings. The meal....a loaf of bread for $15.

Great grinders. The food was hot and tasty. Smell of fresh baked bread radiates inside

This was a really fantastic dinner at a nice small family-run Italian restaurant. The servers got…read morereally busy right after we got here, but both of them worked really hard to keep an eye on their tables. They offered bread service with herb olive oil, which was lovely. The house salad was generous with the feta cheese and croutons, and the balsamic dressing was nice and tart. My wife had the fettuccine Alfredo with grilled chicken. The pasta tasted almost homemade and the Alfredo sauce tasted like a real house made Alfredo, not something from a jar. I had the Chicken Parmigiana and asked if I could have vodka sauce on the spaghetti, just because it's one of my favorite sauces. They were happy to oblige, and it was truly delicious. Our daughter was happy with her penne noodles with butter and cheese... Lol. Hopefully at some point, she orders more than that! We will definitely be back next time we are in Kalamazoo.

But the risotto was full of HUGE chunks of onions and peppers. Instead of bite sized ones. I don't think it was worth $17.. My $12 full ceaser salad is more like a half and came fully dressed so it's soggy. Oh and my $8 peach honey cheese cake is a a tiny piece of cake that's dry. (Idk how it's dry but it's been sitting out for some time)

It was unclear what they meant but she seemed unwilling to put us on the list when we called at about 5:00. So, we decided to take our chances and stopped by about 6:15 and immediately got seated.....probably helped it was just the 2 of us as they were very busy. Our server, Zoe was very good, well versed on the menu and was attentive but not overly so....excellent at her job. The highlight however (for me) was watching the entire hard working staff work together. It was like a finely orchestrated ballet. Mostly young people who worked extremely hard and never seemed to miss a beat! The owner or manager stopped by to check on us (seems rare these days) and was very friendly. The food was good, not out of this world good but very satisfying and we were happy.

Good from far but Far From Good!…read more We had high expectations yet reservations. Good Italian food in SW Michigan? What are the odds? The reviews were mixed but they had been around since 1939 so they must be doing something right. We decided to give it a try on a Saturday night towards the end of summer. As instructed on their website, we called ahead and the hostess said it would be 30 - 45 minutes from when we called at 6:30. We arrived a little before 7:00 to a crowded parking lot (valet only) and people waiting. It looked like what you would expect from an old school Italian restaurant - lots of lions and other statues, a cool outdoor dining area with a screened in area, a wood burning pizza oven, a lively bar and multiple rooms for dining. So far so good. We get to the hostess and she says that they recently got busy (hard to believe) and that it would be 30 or so minutes or 7:30 ish until our table. We grab a drink, listen to the entertainment in the bar and people watch. Around 7:30 we check in and are told it would be a few minutes. We should have left at that point. A few minutes turned into another 30 minutes and we finally sat down at 8:00. Ordered promptly with a frazzled waitress - gluten free pizza (they have a pizza oven in the middle of the room where we were dining), a chicken dish and gluten free pasta. Everything came with soup or salad as well - our waitress said that the minestrone tastes good with cheese and pepper (it was more like a pasta e fagioli in consistency). The pizza comes out and it was clearly undercooked and as we couldn't find out waitress and were hungry, we choked down a few of the pieces (and tasted the undercooked pizza it well into the night). The soup arrived and as accurately described was tasteless and more like porridge but the cheese and pepper helped. Main dishes - chicken that gave airline chicken a run for it's money, with some pasta in an Alfredo or some kind of white sauce and a half an ear of corn (the best thing on the plate). The GF pasta was way overcooked at it was evident after one bite. When I mentioned it to the waitress, she said that we would take it off the bill and asked if I wanted something else. As it was 9:30 and we had a 2 hour ride in front of us, I just said to take if off the bill and to get us our check. The check comes and only 25% of the cost of the pasta is taken off the bill (how does 2 bites of inedible pasta equal 25% off and not 100% off?). I ask the waitress and she said that she spoke to the owner and she said to only take 25% off of the bill. By this point, my wife has called and texted twice as the valet has the car and people are waiting for their cars. I pay the bill and leave, never to return. On the positive side, at least the guy with the oxygen tank got seated before us. Then again, he was waiting when we got there before 7:00... Moral of the story, leave the Italian food to people that know how to make it and respect their customers and waitstaff.
