Very happy - I needed a 35' palm tree removed from a tight spot. I probably could have hired someone for cheaper but their estimate was very reasonable and I felt that they could do the job right and not cause any damages to my fence or pool. Excellent work by "San Antonio Tree Surgeons (SATS)"! Bottom Line: If you need a tree removal company, you do not have to look any further. Story: I needed two awkwardly growing oak trees removed from my backyard. Based on Yelp! research and previous customer's comments, I called SATS. Immediately I understood that I made the correct choice. Jessica (who may be the most courteous Administrative-Assistant in San Antonio) answered all of my questions and sent over an Arborist. I don't remember the gentleman's name, however, he came out the next day and expertly assessed the situation, provided a fair estimate, and immediately scheduled the removal in three-days. Three-days later, a team of professionals made quick work of the two oak trees (approximately two-hours). An additional three-days, another professional came by to grind the two remaining stumps (approximately 15 minutes for the work). It was early in the morning, but hey, that's when I drink my coffee - so bring it. - Cleanup: No problem! - Professionalism: Spot on from start to finish! - Price: I thought it was very fair and reasonable. Then again I have no idea what the rate SHOULD be. But I can't cut down two oak trees in two-hours, remove huge oak tree stumps that are deep in the ground, AND not break nothing so there we go. I called Annette from San Antonio Tree Surgeons to come out and look at the trees.  She said that she saw no disease on the trees, but that they looked stressed from all the ball moss.  Did not advise any chemicals, and gave me a quote of $2000 for hand ball moss removal and getting rid of dead branches.  For eleven large trees, that sounded fair.  Did not ask for any money up front, and scheduled me for this past Tuesday morning. She said they could guarantee 80% of the ball moss would be gone.  Said they strived for more, but couldn't guarantee more. After they finished, I think the removal was more like 95%.  They sent a crew of several guys, with a teenage girl as interpreter, because they were all Spanish speaking.  They arrived on time and were immediately up in my trees.  These guys got way out on the upper limbs that I wouldn't have even thought would support a man, and went to work cutting and scraping.  At first, I was shocked with how many limbs they were cutting out, since we had just recently had the trees trimmed. I told them I wanted them to save as many branches as possible, and they said ok. When they were done, even though a lot of limbs had been cut, the trees looked better than I ever remember seeing them.  We moved here 36 years ago, and in spite of having the trees trimmed regularly, nobody had ever gotten to the really high branches to get rid of the moss, and they have always looked so burdened down and sick.  Now, almost everything you see is green, fresh looking growth.  No more gray, twisted, dead areas. They all look years younger. The other thing I found amazing about this group, was their clean-up.  The yard was several feet deep in moss, twigs, leaves, and branches when they finished.  Whenever we've had our trees trimmed, after the trimmers have "cleaned up," I've always had to take a whole day to rake and bag all the stuff they didn't pick up. These people left it cleaner than it was before they came.  I have a little 3 foot tall rock planter in the front that consists of rocks that I've just laid on top of each other. Never bothered to cement them together, so if you even bump against them, some of the stones always fall down and I just rebuild. They had big branches falling down on them, so I knew the thing would be kaput. But they even rebuilt the little walls, as best they could.  Two people who walked by my yard while all this was going on, were so impressed with the results, that they've already asked for the name of the company. To top it off, Annette said that they would send me the bill, and I could pay on line or send a check.  Simple as they could make it, and for the price they quoted me.  The trees and I are very happy.  Five stars, easy. read more

We have some huge old oak trees in this area, and San Antonio Tree Surgeons came out and trimmed and and removed some that were encroaching on the house. They came out promptly, did the work well and neatly, and at a fair price. I will definitely use them again and recommend them to neighbors. read more

In December 2015 we hired Tree Surgeons based on an initial positive experience with their arborist and their ability to get the work done before the holidays. When their crew arrive on the scheduled day of trimming I did not notice any affiliation with Tree Surgeons on their truck or any piece of clothing. I spoke with only one member of the crew and they never offered their name. They entered my neighbor's property and climb on her roof without first letting them know, and according to our neighbor, they were afraid the trimmers would damage their roof as they were hearing loud thuds and bangs as they trimmed; after investigating the noises, our neighbors told them to discontinue trimming over their property, which they did. When returning home at the end of the day, the crew was gone, but they left a piece on tree branch hanging alone from a piece of cable right off our deck. As this was close to the holidays, and we were busy we did not notify tree surgeons until after Christmas. In addition to this piece of branch, we informed them of our experience with their crew and some of their trimming practices we had questions about; in short we told them we didn't think we'd be using them again based on our experience. Tree Surgeons came out and removed the branch previously described. Because of our experience, we asked for a discount. We waited for an affirmative yes or no from Tree Surgeons. We received this answer via a lawyer on the behalf of their company who threatened to file an injunction against us if we posted about our personal experience on the internet. Even though legal action was threatened, we felt it was in the consumers' best interest to hear our experience. It is our opinion Tree Surgeons do not value clear communication or customer service and attempted to bully us into silence; we cannot in good conscience recommend doing business with this company. read more

Not a positive experience at all. Took 2 days for an online inquiry to be responded to. Eventually someone came out to give me an estimate, but didn't call ahead before showing up. Said they would come out "thursday or friday maybe".. never showed up. Never called. Tuesday comes, still no service, but I get a bill for "work completed" that was never done. I have four large oak trees in my backyard that were in need of removal of broken limbs and branches, thinning, and canopy raising. Mark came out the next day to give me a price. He was knowledgeable and patient with me, answering all of my questions and addressing my concerns. A crew came out a couple of days later while I was at work. By the time I came home at noon the job had been done. I could hardly tell they had been there, they had cleaned up afterwards so well, but the trees looked great! I recently hired San Antonio Tree Surgeons to do some major tree trimming and ball moss removal for two mature Oak trees. They were very quick to provide an initial quote and I was selective to work with a company that was insured. They were also quick to put me on their schedule and while they had to push back my service date because of work load, they were great at communicating what was happening and promptly answered my questions. They also told me not to pay anything at all until the job was complete and to my satisfaction - which was a pleasant surprise because I expected they would want me to pay at least half up front. We hired SA Tree Surgeons to trim our 2 huge pecan trees from a 120 years-old property being restored. They sent an arborist to meet with us in the property to specify which parts to be trimmed. Our concern is to avoid liability with the limb stretching over neighbor's roof and possible roof damage from the one over ours. My husband very carefully explain expectations : balance the tree, trim away from properties without altering shape and shade for the yard, leave one particular limb stubbed for swing installation later, trim rotten branches for health, and since this is prime natural old pecan wood, we redundantly specified to leave the trimmed logs for our use. When they followed up for scheduling, I requested to be present to make sure work is done according to our specifications. The arborist that met with my husband prior said they cannot arrange a time after-school (Im a teacher) since they go by case to case basis and do not know the exact time they finish from one job to another. Take note I was already hesitant to have workers who were not present during the meeting come to the property unattended, without the arborist who is supposed to know how it should be trimmed. But I relented because they SHOULD know how it should be done and was assured that a very detailed work order will be given to the workers. This is a tree about 300 years old and is one of the main charm of the historic property, so we are extra particular how it should be done. We have shopped around and received cheaper quotes but went with them because they claim to have certified 'tree surgeons' on staff. To cut it short, they came the day they said they would, cut the tree haphazardly, and hauled off our precious pecan logs (not just typical ones, these are more than 20-ft. long, 3-4 feet round straight logs than can be sold for premium price. The branch that is over our roof is still there, and the back tree that was supposed to be trimmed because of rotten limbs was left untouched. It is like hiring a surgeon, but getting a service from a butcher. We were horrified when we saw it after a long work day. Tried to get in touch with them, but no one informed us that day. The next day, while my husband is on an email rampage from Afghanistan, they tried to play it down like it was just a bunch of wood that was accidentally taken away. Like we are crying over something very plain silly. The only reason I gave them a 2* instead of -1 is they did send the same arborist to inspect the work, and she must have been equally horrified of the incompetence the took place and owned up to the mistake. They offered to cut the bill in half and send us logs from future trimmings, or just waive the fee altogether. With the stress of dealing with such incompetence, we decided we will not pay for the disservice, but acknowledged their efforts to make it right. I hope this never happens to anyone. Make sure someone is there to supervise the job on the customers end, and dont just entrust it blindsightedly to the workers! read more
