My main computer for my business was on the edge of crashing. Super slow on everything be it internet page brousing, opening programs, moving around in open programs, you name it. I am pretty savvy with computers. So when I couldn't troubleshoot the issue, I decided to go against my tech ego and take my laptop in to get repaired. The staff was extremely friendly and very helpful. They made sure to have multiple people look into my issue. In the end, it was a bad motherboard and the problem couldn't be easily fixed. The team reached out to me and refunded my initial payment and let me know what the overall issue was. Even though they couldn't resolve my issue, they made sure I felt confident that all avenues were taken to trouble shoot it, and I left with peace of mind knowing I didn't waste my time. I took my portable external drive there to see if they could format it since I was having trouble doing it myself. They took it to the back and came out 5 minutes later, telling me they thought it was that the drive was failing , but they were trying something else. In the end, it was the drive that was failing and I had to scrap it, but what didn't fail was their prompt service! And they didn't charge me a thing. Finally got my Alienware 14 up and running again, a couple other shops wouldn't even touch it, saying they don't work on high end gaming rigs. I went this route cause Alienware tech support suggested to use a local shop as it would be cheaper. Living across the street from the beach corroded a lot of the internals and it wouldn't take power when plugged in, along with a rusted HDMI port. Another shop in the Point Loma area just did a sloppy quick band aid fix, that they outsourced to Colorado for some reason, and only lasted a few months, also that other shop lost my memory card dust cover, really annoying, and gave me a crappy used third party power adapter, don't use that shop located behind target next to 7 11. Kyle replaced the motherboard for me, I was worried because it's my understanding that the video card is soddered or glued in, in my specific model, so I didn't know what to expect, but it is the same upgraded card and not a different one, it runs perfect. Also they ordered the proper 150W power adapter for me, since whatever the exact issues were, it kept killing the AC adapters. I took a peek inside and there was a tiny little baggy taped to the disk drive mount, probably used to store screws so they didn't get lost. I just removed it, no biggy, just weird. I use this machine for gaming and I run SETI and or other strenuous programs when I'm not home, even more so recently to test the repair job, the new motherboard is doing its job without issue. Also, fair labor pricing, plus cost of parts, etc etc, good things. I recommend. read more

I never leave reviews, but this place was so above and beyond on every level, that I feel the need to share my experience. I initially made contact with Graham, a very friendly dude. Alex then helped me with installing my operating system back onto a new hard drive, after the initial diagnostic showed that my old one was pretty much done for. Wow, I am impressed by the service, knowledge, kindness, integrity and transparency. This business merged with Tech2U, which makes them even better together. There is always someone to answer the phone, and they offer remote diagnostics. Tech2U was able to do the diagnostic online right away, tell me what they thought was wrong and connected me back with this Hillcrest shop, when they saw it was a failing harddrive. Oz in Hillcrest was honest about how long it would take, and then they successfully got all my data off the bad drive and installed the critical programs to get me running again. Oz listened and honored what I wanted done, honored the Yelp discount, and did a great job for a fair price. I liked everyone I talked to on the phone and in the shop. These guys are great. This business is located close to my home so I was grateful to be able to walk my laptop across the street and get their opinion about what might be wrong with it. They were super professional, very nice and I felt like whatever they told me I was going to get a good deal and they would take good care of my laptop.
