Horrible customer service with the call center yesterday! ive been a mbr since the 90s and this is enough to make me close my accounts. Buying a trailer and my card is declined, twice. How embarrassing! i try calling and im on hold for a long time. Rep comes on, i give her account info and tells me im not on the account and do i have poa? what? ive never had trouble with this account... she puts me on hold again and then says she has to xfer me to back office. Mind you. im still waiting at the dealer. on hold again. New rep comes on, i have to explain again and shes typing away what i say. She tells me that they will not lift the lift on my debit card for the day and to use my credit card or get a cashiers check. im at the dealer and only have my debit card and nothing else. Even if i did have my credit card, i wouldnt use it because its an extra 2.5% to use. i asked why they wont increase the limit for the day and she says they wont. i asked again, give me a valid reason...she tells me they decline debit cards at dealerships and they wont accept it. im beyond mad at this point. ive been a long term mbr in good standing and you treat me like this? i had to leave and drive down to my other nice credit union, Mission Fed. that values me and my money and get everything taken of no problem, and then drive all the way back to the dealer. Thanks for wasting my time SDCCU! We have been with you for decades and this is how you treat your long time members? No thanks! You've become all about profit now and not customer service. Long term mbrs mean nothing to you now and you are just another big bank! There are plenty of alternatives out there and Mission Fed will now be my main financial institution. Embarrassing me and telling me how to spend my money is not how i do business. I like the old days of SDCCU when you actually cared about your mbrs and retention. read more

My goodness, how this credit union has tanked in service. We have been members for 25+ years and the service just keeps getting worse year after year. The app and online are so antiquated you can't even order checks efficiently. I ended up calling today because the name on our account showing up in the app when ordering checks only had my husband's name on it and it was IMPOSSIBLE to create checks with both of our names. So, I called them to order them via phone. The guy who took our call could not accomplish the simple task of ordering checks with both our names on them. We have a trust so I also wanted to make sure that our names appeared precisely as required so there were no issues. What he recommended made no sense and when I questioned it he admitted he didn't know the answer to how to format the names. We had recently deposited a large check in person and the teller was very particular about how we endorsed the check and explained that SDCCU is being very careful about how names appear and how checks are endorsed, so I wanted to make sure the checks were correct. Zero stars for knowledge, zero stars for efficiency, zero stars for not being able to accomplish the simple task of ordering checks online, zero stars for not being able to accomplish the simple tasks of ordering checks by phone, and 1 star because the guy was super polite. Super frustrated that I now have to drive to the bank to order checks to make sure we get usable ones. Somebody needs to drag this business into the current century. read more

I keep trying to spend my money and they keep blocking me randomly. I've called countless times and explained the situation but it continues to occur. It's caused a lot of problems so we will be switching banks to a company that cares about their customers. The only areas SDCCU seems to excel is holding my money to make a profit for themselves and spamming their customers begging them to vote SDDCU as "San Diego's best credit union". I do not do a lot of reviews unless something is great or very annoying. I used the ATM today at SDCCU to WD $100, it only dispenses $50 bills. I went inside to get change 5-$20 bills. After standing in line for 6 minutes, I asked to get 5-$20 bills. I was required to produce my Bank Card and I.D to cash money from their ATM. I asked why do they only dispense $50 and the most HATED ANSWER "I don't know" I was asked for my bank card and ID, why do I need my ID because they had to open my account to get change for money that came from their ATM, so does that mean if I walked in off the street and did not have an account I CANT GET CHANGE. What does a bank or credit unions do ??? I'm going back to tomorrow and ask if anyone can explain the meaning of CUSTOMER SERVICE ? read more

Not enought tellers i waited 30 mins with 1 teller and 3 members in front of me. When I said they need to do better especially on a Friday 4 .30 pm. Teller decided to give me the silent t treatment, including throwing my Id onto the counter. Asked to please not throw my card when I handed it to her. There were 3 people on their desks with Not one sitting helping a customer. The manager and a second employee strolled the bank discussing personal matters with 0 urgency. It wasn't until you can hear them conclude their personal conversation when the second teller hopped on to her computer glanced on her phone and called me up with an attitude of her only calling me becaouse she had to. By then, there was a line of over 10 people. I was also told they won't help me in Spanish because it goes against their rules. Also was told that their isn't refinances on car loans until further notice. What is going on with SDCCU. read more

I read some of the reviews on here and want to give some insight. I also thought customer service was not getting back to me but apparently on many of the newer iPhones, the 1-877 and 1-800 numbers are automatically blocked. You need to call your carrier or go into settings and unblock. I had one of the worst experiences as far as someone else's account being a few digits off from mine and the persons mortgage payment had been taken from my account. Without getting into detail the CSR, Assistant Manager and Manager were all very supportive in helping. I will continue banking at SDCCU because everyone has been extremely helpful and nice. SDCCU took away the ability for customers to pay their bills via direct deposit from their SDCCU bank account, into another bank's account. (Popmoney). They DID NOT INFORM members of this. Due to this, I had automatic loan payments stop without my knowledge, now I have incurred a slew of late fees and it has negatively impacted my credit score, while I'm in the middle of trying to purchase my first home- this has screwed us over. Review is based on an experience it says a lot about our current one sided banking system. My elderly mother is making a purchase seller requested last 3 months of bank statements. We went into the branch to request copies and they wanted to charge my mom $5.00 for each statements copies. I had to protest this my mom has nearly $500,000 in their bank that they're making money on to finance loans etc... she's not making shit! Waited in line and when the teller finished up her transaction with a customer she proceeded to duck her head behind her computer screen instead and ignoring the long line of customers waiting to be helped. I waited patiently for her to say next customer as is common practice in most places of business. During the entire transaction, she was not friendly and went through the motions. It seems that SDCCU's motto is "I'll take your money but I don't have to treat you with courtesy or respect." They will receive the same treatment they provide to their long-time customers. Taking mu huge savings account out of their bank was the right decision. Giving minimal service doesnt earn my hard earned money to finance their loans. read more

SDCCU is the WORST banking experience I've ever had to endure. I thought Wells was a pain but I'm running...not walking....back to the nearest Wells and re open my accounts. Trying to get through to anyone on the phone is a mouse maze of pressing different numbers only to find out you're stuck on a recording and have to call back. Once you call back on hold again for another 5 minutes before some of the most unhelpful "Customer Service" reps answer the phone and drone on about that's SDCCU policy Sir. Please tell me who votes for this place in the Union Tribune? SDCCU touts their prominence in the UT readers poll but just look at the reviews on YELP. This isn't an anonymous vote here on YELP. Man, they are not an easy "credit union" to work with. It's more like a corporate union. I now have to jump through tons of hoops to get access to my online account or from their mobile app. The last mobile app, before the so called upgrade, was pretty bad and very user unfriendly. After a few years without, I ignored the warnings and downloaded their newly updated one. Now I can't get into my account from my phone or from my computer. When I called in to sort it out, I answered about 6 security questions and when I couldn't remember who the beneficiary was on my account, I was told I would have to come into a branch. I avoid corporations because they only want my money/profit and treat you like a number. SDCCU feels like they're taking that turn. I'd suggest you look for a REAL, local credit union. I can not speak for the bank itself as I am not a member of SDCCU, however I can still share my experience with two wonderful individuals that work for this branch. Danny Tejeda and Luma Hannah. About 10 days ago I deposited a large sum of cash into an SDCCU ATM under the false pretense that it would accept my transaction even though I bank with another company. The machine took all of they money I had deposited and then left me with only a receipt that says "0.00" dollars was received. It was an absolute nightmare of continually calling both banks to try and sort this problem out, and eventually I began physically getting in my vehicle to talk to both SDCCU and my bank to try and solve this issue. After so long of not getting any help, as my bank refused to file a dispute for me, Tejeda and Luma of SDCCU went above and beyond for me. Even though I am not a member, they treated me like family, listened, empathized, gave me their information so that I could call for updates and ultimately helped me get to the bottom of the situation. Apparently the employees and SDCCU rather would believe they are on rodeo drive. Not sure what the company motto is. Recently came in to open my son a checking account for his birthday. When I got to the desk, I was greeted immediately with a smile by Dianggello. He was very thorough and walked my son through each step including the mobile app set up. Kyle, the manager also came up and greeted my son and welcomed him to the family. In addition, I've been a member for over 6 years and coming into this branch for over 2 years and I've always had a pleasant experience. I've also had great experiences with Christina. This review is regarding international wires. Including going to the branch I have spoken to 4 people and still don't have the answer to my question. The first 3 times I have asked about what information is needed was in branch and twice through the app. The bank who is sending the money have stated that SDCCU needs to provide an intermediary bank where the funds go to before being sent to SDCCU as they do not have a swift code. All 3 times I was told that the sending bank has their own intermediary bank to use. WRONG INFORMATION!!!! I call the call center and speak with the fourth person. Explain the situation. Starts to looks better,they state SDCCU uses an intermediary bank and puts me on hold to get the info. Rep comes back on the line to tell me "oh you can use any of the big banks like Chase or BofA as the intermediary bank"Ok well I am asking you as my financial institution who do I use and what's the swift code and address I need??? This is an international payment for a large sum of money and I wanna make sure I have the correct information. How do I know they will provide the funds to SDCCU?!? Info was not provided by the rep. I could hear the shoulder shrugging from the rep on the other side of the phone.Just seems to be a lack of training and knowledge when it's comes to international wires. Just disappointing as now I have to open an account with one of the "big banks" in order to receive an international payment. Was suckered in by a good auto loan. Huge mistake. Their online banking system looks like a 1990s junior high computer class project. They won't call you or send you mail, but use their "enotices" system which your email provider might catch as spam because it looks so dodgy. Then, when their automatic payment system screws up and your account becomes overdrawn, they'll close it without telling you and leave derogatory remarks on your credit report. Stay away! Susan the teller is great she helped me even when I didn't need an auto loan. The lines weren't long at all which is always great. I was in and out in about 5 minutes because Susan was on top of things and there is a security guard that will open the door for you. The location may not be that great but parking is not bad at all. CAR LOANS This is the worst place to get a car loan!!!!!!I went in here to get a loan and they tried to charge me more then a car dealer would. The lady told me 13.49 APR OVER 66 months I would have had to put 3,000 down I have good credit never missed a payment in my life and have a bomb income with no outstanding loans and have bin with this bank for over 5 years I should have bin offered a 5.0 APR MAX!!!!. but no don't let them run and mess up your credit go somewhere else anywhere els to try and get a loan. Not until our fifth visit on the same topic was the branch manager involved, who, again was unable to help us, indicating we needed to go jump through some more hoops. I've only ever had one problem with this credit union. I have applied for a credit card 2 times since I been with SDCCU & both times I was denied a credit card. The lady told me I would get an email explaining in detail as to why I was not able to get a credit card with them. When I got home and opened up my email I read the report and all the report said was "We are sorry, but you do not meet the requirements to obtain a credit card" How is that possible? I make enough money for myself in a year and have no debt and a clean record. The only reason why I give this branch 3 stars is because they make cashing my check fast & easy. HORRIBLE online services. If you provide one incorrect piece of identifying information when calling to get account support, there are absolutely NO second chances. They will not continue to try and assist you by phone. Instead you have to go to a branch for a long wait in the lobby to see a customer service rep. You have to have a password, passcode, username, account number, and other identifying info. That's all good but give one incorrect digit and they end the call. Also their Internet banking is confusing even for the computer savvy. What a nightmare it has been!!! read more

Well, I have been with this place for about a year and a half. I have decided that once my bills are paid off, I am done with them. In fact, I am at the point where maybe I will go to another bank and refinance my car for a HIGHER rate because of the annoyances. So what did it tonight? Well, I'm TRYING to pay my bills online and their stupid site errors out EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. By the way, this is a common occurrence, in fact I'd venture off to say that it has never worked well when i login. But this is the LONGEST time I have taken to get ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE and I am giving up. 40+ minutes and I cannot pay my bills. Oh, its not my connection, no no no. Please note, this review is for the La Mesa branch only. I'm making a 3000 mile cross-country move, and am interested in getting a personal loan in case something major happens. So I stopped by SDCCU yesterday afternoon to see if I could chat with somebody about this. No one was available, so I scheduled an appointment to go back in this morning. When I walked in this morning, the woman at the front desk asked me if I had filled out a membership agreement. Well, no, I hadn't -- all I want is some information on getting a personal loan, since I've never had one before. She seemed baffled by this but asked me to wait in the lobby area for the financial representative. This is where things got odd and frustrating. About five minutes later, the rep came out to get me. She had horrible posture and unkempt hair. She seemed to have no pride in her appearance and didn't instill a great deal of confidence in me. And, she never once made eye contact with me, and I was there for nearly an hour. Call me judgmental, but if you're going to be out and about working with people, at least stand up straight and pull your hair out of your face. I had to explain about eight different ways that I just wanted information -- I wasn't yet ready to apply for or take out a loan. Because I've never had a personal loan, I wanted to talk with a "professional" and learn more about everything that's involved before I make a financial decision. This woman didn't seem to get it. I finally had to apply for a savings account with SDCCU before she would give me information. Whatever, it's easily canceled. So she gave me the paperwork and I filled it out, and so far she still had said less than three dozen words to me. When I handed her back the paperwork, she still said nothing, then proceeded to clack away at her keyboard while I sat...waiting... After 11 minutes (yes I timed it, I had nothing else to do), I asked her "So are you still running my credit report?" She replied "I'm putting in notes." Okay... Whatever that means... After several more minutes she finally turned to me, and still not making eye contact, told me that I could get a loan. Hooray. Long story short, the lady I worked with today hardly spoke to me, didn't once make eye contact, and had zero professional appearance or demeanor. She also never answered my questions, which was why I went there in the first place. Additionally, I got to overhear the juicy details of the date that another of the staff members went on. Again, not super professional. After all the "Best of San Diego" awards that SDCCU has won, I would think they would be more outstanding. However, I was far from impressed. While I may go back, I'll be visiting other financial institutions to see how I'm treated, and if I can even get simple information. Overall, I'm not recommending the La Mesa branch of SDCCU, unless you're 110% financially confident. Nothing was done to address my questions and concerns, and I can't stand when someone who I'm speaking with doesn't make eye contact! read more
