Abbey guided me through the features of this VERY SWEET Benz e-car which, when brand new, would ordinarily be $40K. Here, it is only around $15K! No sticker shock here! Just great customer experience. In fact, this CarMax is right across the street from the $60K+ Benz dealership. This CarMax location has friendly, responsive, efficient employees. Abbey helped me with the test drive to learn how to drive the e-car (attached photo) with clean title, silver color, lumbar support, nice features on the 2016 model which was delivered from Torrance. It has low mileage for only around $15K. The range is perfect for in-town drivers or if you have an EV charger (or access). With has prices on the rise, come check it out! Abbey will help you learn how to drive it! Chris, too, has a great attitude. He answered questions. The front counter is organized. Employees look you in the eye, greet you, and are available and willing to help. Thst goes a long way. It speaks to their excellence. Background: CarMax let me have a car shipped from their Torrance CA location to this location. It took a couple weeks but they updated me with status when I called, then via email and text. Once the car arrived in El Cajon, I was notified that it was going through inspections and I'd hear from them when it's ready. When the car was ready, I scheduled an appointment. Before the appointment time, they texted me a reminder. I called to get as much of the financing done because I was 75% certain I'd purchase this car after the test drive. Arrived, checked in and went to the lot to find the car. It was just like the photos and I couldn't wait to drive it. I went in and waited. When I inquired about the time, the associate told me I didn't have an appointment and I didn't have a "hold" placed on the car. I told her I saw the car. She said the car was on hold for someone else. I tried to explain that they shipped the car to the location on my request and tried to show her my phone with the email/car photos. She told me that she's just going by what the computer said. Eventually, after waiting, she said she is going to have someone get the car for me. About 30 minutes passed, and she informed me that the car was in "service" and not available but on Monday, she will find out what's going on. I inquired why and she said that it could be a check engine light or the car didn't pass their inspection. I tried to tell her that I have an email from CarMax letting me know it passed all inspections. She refused to listen and sent me away. I got home, called CarMax and explained what happened. The associate pulled up my account with the approved loan for that specific vehicle and told me he was going to email me a link to the car and asked me to confirm that it's the right one. I did. He told me that the car was in the lot and it is the car I looked at when I was there. He said the "hold" on the car is for me. When I returned, the associate who assisted me earlier told me I showed her a screenshot of a different car and that's why it didn't match. That was very bizarre. I test drove the car and it was exactly what I hoped for and more. It was worth the month long wait and I did purchase the car. Overall, CarMax has some very nice cars, they have multiple options for financing, trades and the entire office seemed like a very nice group of professional people. They don't pressure you to buy a car (clearly, since the one associate sent me away). Highly recommend!

Short story: Yes, I…read more recommend these guys and it was well worth going to East County for my "new" used vehicle, and most noteworthy, the salesperson Dina, who made the process smooth, friendly, and efficient and did not trigger me at all! Long story: What do I mean trigger me? Lemme tell you--I hate high-pressure sales! Most people just find it annoying, but I have some kind of allergic reaction to it when it strikes me as overly manipulative or even like some form of bullying. Maybe because a couple of my first jobs were in sketchy sales (Cutco Knives anyone?--I lasted a whole week!). So yeah, I have kinda gone-off on sales people in the past. I'm not proud of this, it isn't comfortable for anyone, me, the salesperson, or my spouse, hehe... And with the old trope about the used-car salesman, I did a good job just avoiding the dealerships completely. But, with no current hand-me-down vehicles from family available, and my old car deemed a total loss-- I guess it was finally time to get on with what everyone else does as competent adults and just go and buy a car already! My strategy in dealing with myself and the car-buying process was to research online first. This actually worked out better than I would have thought. I used the truecar website link my insurance (Hartford) sent. It had a solid search function, and I was able to get a good sense of what was available in my area, the history and price of different vehicles, and a general sense of how much the taxes and fees would be (and therefore what could be a reasonable amount to negotiate/expect to pay out the door). In this way I was able to pre-shop around for cars, and educate myself on what would be a fair price. None of this is probably new to you experienced car buyers out there, but I think it could be very helpful to some of you, if you are a young or older newbie like myself. Anyway, the car I was interested in was at East County Pre-Owned Car Superstore, and so I arranged to go out there, meet Dina, and go for a test drive. Like anyone practicing new "adulting" skills, I brought my mom along! Well, she drove me, then played a quietly supportive wingman as I got on with the car-buying process. Dina, the salesperson, was easygoing and personable, and I thought she struck a nice balance of being helpful and leading the process forward without pressure. Um, as a side note about salespeople... yes, I tend to avoid them if that is an option, but I also have a dear friend who happens to be a very successful salesperson, and I have had positive experiences with salespeople too. What I've come to realize is that sales, at it's best, is a win-win situation, one in which the price is fair for both parties, and the salesperson helps you find and purchase a quality product that they believe in, you want, and that will serve you well. I feel like Dina is this kind of salesperson. Car shopping/buying takes time and energy to figure out, and I if you're like me you will need to do your homework online first. And if the car you want is in their lot, Dina is someone I wholeheartedly recommend to help you through the process. I came back to the dealership a few days after buying my car so they could replace a small piece of trim that was missing and they had ordered. Dina cheerfully snapped the new part on, and when I told her that the day before, my husband had already put a scratch on the car (he was so bummed and I was just happy it was him and not me:) she called her husband and asked him to come by and buff it out. He did, and made it look so much better! That was very nice, and very much in the spirit of wanting a happy customer even after the sale was made. Thanks to everyone who made it a positive experience for me, most especially you Dina, I'm digging my new car!

I went to Carmax on a Monday after work, without an appointment, and they were able to see me right away. Since the quote started online, it was an easy process to get registered by scanning a barcode and answering a few questions at the window. Once they test drove the car, the quote was the same. I was then given a list of instructions for my Tesla to reset it to its original factory settings. Please note that you have to do all the steps, even the step for the associate. Once that was done, I was brought over to talk to one of reps who presented the paperwork to sign. It was minimal and the explanation was clear. My balance due at the bank will be handled by Carmax and I was given the remainder of the profit via check. The process was pretty seamless! I'd definitely come back again if I have to sell my car.

The "Express" Pickup is a Total Sham - They Chose a Bot Over a Serious Buyer…read more I've never experienced a more tone-deaf sales process. I am a 100% committed buyer with approved financing. I even went as far as sharing my private insurance settlement documents ($11,500+) with my associate, Maria, just to prove I wasn't wasting anyone's time while waiting for the check to clear. Despite this, CarMax Kearny Mesa has been a logistical nightmare. I live in Carlsbad, and after making multiple trips down there (a 45-80 minute haul each way), their 'solution' to a minor insurance delay was to send me an automated Salesforce threat stating they would release the car if I didn't show up for a third time on Monday. Maria is 'off' on Monday, and management is apparently content letting a bot handle their business. They are willing to blow up a guaranteed, funded deal over a 48-hour administrative window. If you want to be treated like a person--especially if you've done the work to prove you're a serious buyer--go literally anywhere else. This isn't 'Express' service; it's a 'computer-says-no' bureaucracy that doesn't care about your time, your commute, or your business.
