SDCCU cares about themselves and their rules, not the members. As I write this, they will have taken $224 out of my account for "Overdrawn" even though the funds were in my account. Their excuse? It was Pending on their end, and they also put a hold on my check, the same paycheck that I've been depositing every 2 weeks since last year. My check that pays my rent every month, that they said can take up to 7 business days to clear. Loyalty means nothing to them; they "appreciate your business" (insert canned insincere customer service phrase here), but their decision is not to help you, even if you have a financial hardship. When you go to call them out on it, they hide behind the institution and don't own up to the fact that they, the individuals on the other end of the phone who DO have the power to help you, WON'T. But hey, they're really sorry, and that's totally going to fix the mess you're in now, right? Yeah, not really. I've been a customer of theirs for decades; my family all have accounts there too - but that and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee at McDonalds. What's the big deal, right? It's not like anyone in California lives paycheck to paycheck because of the high cost of living, and none of the landlords charge a late fee past the 3rd of the month, right? EXCEPT that many of us DO live paycheck to paycheck, and our landlords DO charge a late fee past the 3rd. So while we, the customers, are waiting for a check to clear, SDCCU's outdated hold system and merciless penalties policy is making it near impossible for those of us who don't have a workplace that does direct deposit, and can't make it to the bank to put the check right in front of their faces. Spent 30 of the most frustrating minutes of my life going around and around with them that I will NEVER get back. So basically, if you are stuck using mobile deposit or using the ATM machine to deposit because: 1) you aren't able to take the check in, in person, and deposit it physically, 2) you're time crunched or have two jobs, and can't make it to the bank before they close, 3) you're disabled/sick/have a health condition and can't leave your home, and no one can take your check in for you, or 4) you have a transportation issue and can't bring it in...you're screwed. If you're thinking of getting an account with this most unworthy and uncaring of institutions, don't! If you're unlucky enough to be one of their current customers, close your accounts and warn your friends, family, and anyone else you can to close them too. read more

I've been locked out of my account because I've tried too many times to incorrectly login. The recording/message says to call 877-732-2848 to get help unlocking your account. This has all happened since they switch to the "New" SDCCU. I've called this number several times to speak to someone to unlock my account. They even give you the option to have someone call you back "without loosing you place in line". Ha Ha Ha! I've also done this a few times and NEVER received a call back. More than once I've stayed on the phone on hold for MORE THAN AN HOUR with no acknowledgement or answer to my calls. SDCCU, in my book, you are no longer, as you profess to be, the best credit union. In the past 18 months my respect for your institution has been a landslide down hill. My other accounts at competitive credit unions treat me with much higher respect than I have experienced in recent times. When we moved to the Temecula area I was so glad to see there was a branch on 79 South. Now they have more all over, including an ATM in Fallbrook!! All staff are friendly, helpful, don't seem to rush through the deposit or withdrawal. The new ATMs confuse me sometimes, but I hardly ever use them because inside transactions are fast, and lines are short. Oh, and the lobbies are clean, and guarded. read more

We've been a member for 30+ yrs. Using their auto pay for bills, I had to cancel auto payments due to come out the 26th of each month. I canceled on the 20th and the web page read canceled. Nope, they processed a payment on the 20th with NO notice to me so that I could stop payment or contact my mortgage company. I've now dbl payed my mortgage and my balance is in the negative until I'm reimbursed by the mortgage company. I asked the manager if she could waive the $27 bounced check fees on any of my other auto pays that hadn't come through? NO! Mission Fed is looking really good right now. I first went to the ATM to deposit cash and for whatever reason the ATM machine wouldn't take my money. I had to go into the bank to deposit and the one lady working as a teller was having a long ass conversation with I believe someone she knows or possibly a family member. Their conversation went way past the time of the customer making her transactions. I'm just standing there forever waiting for someone else to ask me to come to their window/stall. Finally someone else called me up so I could make my own transaction, which I finished and the teller and customer were still chatting. At that point the teller really needs to inform the customer that she will talk to her outside of business hours, because she is at work and there is a line of people waiting to be served and some people like myself are in a hurry and that is why I originally went to the ATM to deposit money. read more

I don't trust this bank. I had two overdraft charges (when I had money in the account). I had to go to the bank, request the refund and asked why the overdraft charge. They simply said they have no idea! I guess I'll be back when it happens again. I had $116 in my account. I got an overdraft charge ($32), put my account balance to $86. then an oil change ($91, which I originally had in my account) so, this charge put another overdraft change on my account. They told me I have $20 overdraft protection - but how would that help if I already had more than $100 in my account??! Watch your Money Here! In fact, it's so bad I withdrawal all of my money except $100 and moved everything to Navy Federal CU. If SDCCU wants to obtain and retain business they need to hire some qualified software engineers who can design and maintain mobile and computer-based interfaces that actual work. Their current system is clunky and unresponsive. You can look at almost any other banking app to find a much better example of how to do it. Towards the end of last year, I had my car written off in an accident while it was parked. My old car loan was done at this branch with such professionalism that I had no hesitation going back to them for my replacement car. The second time round was just as professional and straightforward and nothing was too much for Christina Link who was the person I dealt with the second time round. She answered all my questions regarding the old and new car promptly and with what sounded like a smile on her face. She made what I thought was going to be a difficult scenario seamless and almost pleasant. I waited for nothing and was called back with promptness the few times she was not available when I called the branch. I'm so frustrated with SDCCU. Been a member for over 16 years and they have gone downhill! Trying to access online banking for over two hours and says it's down for maintenance. Again why is online banking down in the middle of the day for maintenance? Can't you do maintenance at 2 or 3 or 4am like most businesses? It's been down for from what I can tell around 11am and it's now 1:22pm and it is still down. Right in the middle of the day? Why? Can't wait to leave SDCCU..always problems now. Updating my review from.. Not even a year ago! Not necessarily with the staff but with the bank itself! The worst possible app that you can never log into. They kick you out of the app all the time and you have to call to get it reset. Today I've been locked out of my bank account. Call to find out the entire system is down. None of the visas they issue work. Wow. It's funny, they are aware of all the bugs the app has. When I opened my account they mentioned that they get a lot of complaints. I've never had this many problems with a bank to use MY OWN money. I'd rather throw it all under my mattress at this point. read more

I have an account with SDCCU, and in my opinion, the only thing a credit union is good for is free checking accounts and no fee ATMs. If you are buying a home, car or need a savings account, and you go to a credit union, then you're an idiot. Home loan will likely fall out of escrow and sellers are less likely to accept your offer because CU's are too difficult to work with, go to a funding-style brokerage like San Diego Funding. Car loan will have high interest rates, and they will not fund an inexpensive vehicle, only newer expensive cars, finance directly with the dealership or pay cash instead. Savings accounts have extremely low rates, investing $25,000 will make you a whopping $37 annually! Go with Discover Bank or someone similar that will offer better savings income. That's my 2 cents (which is way more than my interest earnings from my savings account) read more

Anyone wana pitch in for investigation or to sue the ? If there was a rating of zero I would give them one. I've had money missing over the past couple of years and I requested someone to audit my account and they wouldn't. Charged me overdraft fees last year and I signed paperwork so they wouldn't charge my debit card to go to negative. They started charging me the same fees again! And said "no it was a different form". Of course they were only charging me the fees since I actually had a savings. I'm pretty sure this bank is committing all sorts of fraud. read more

My husband and I have been SDCCU customers for over 10 years. Overall, the bank is great - if you have direct deposit, your checking account is free, APR's are low - CC is 9.99%, car is 1.99%. You can get a lot of things done online. But there were some minor hiccups - but they always resolved any issues we encountered in a timely manner. I really do recommend this bank. An SDCCU phone representative, as well as a live chat representative, said they cannot give me a point-of-contact for our suppliers who need to contact the bank. They said that our suppliers must call the main line (and wait on hold for who knows how long) to speak to a representative, then they will get a random representative and have to go through some more hoops before proceeding. Next time they call, it'll be a different person who answers. This is not how professional business-to-business should operate. A direct contact for our suppliers would be much better. Then walk about 50 yards to the west to the Dollar Tree and spend your cash on a grip of cool stuff. This is not specific to this branch. This is a review of my overall experience with the credit union as a whole. My debit card has been compromised no less than five times in the two years I've had an account with them. It seems I spend more time freezing my account and getting a new card than I do actually banking. I keep my card safe so this seems more a faulty security within the company rather than me being careless. However, I do shop online often so that wasn't the reason I closed the account. I closed it because I spent over an hour the other day trying to make an online purchase. It would not process. I called the bank and was informed it was because the address on file did not match the address on file with the company I was attempting to make a purchase with. The issue? The address is the exact same. I called to verify. Twice. On my fourth call to the credit union to figure out how to fix this glitch, there seemed to be no way to rectify. The rep offered a few suggestions, but was honest enough to say he didn't really know how to fix it. While I appreciate the honesty, that doesn't help me use my card online. Using it in person is no issue, but since I do much of my shopping online, I felt I had no other option than to switch to another financial service. read more

Opened an account there which took two days to open and at least 3 hrs. I received a letter from they saying my account was closed because of a negative balance. This was my first knowledge of this even though the letter stated they had made numerous attempts to reach me. I had no emails or voicemails or previous letters from them ,so how the tried to reach me is anyone's guess. When I called about how the negative balance they it was due to two $30 dollar overdraft penalties the rep (Vanessa?) stayed with an attitude '' well you signed up for it''. I went into the local branch today to deposit a check and ask to have an over-draft fee reversed and it was a nightmare of an experience. I've been a customer of SDCCU for the past 7 years, and haven't really had any issues until now. In the past year, I think I requested an over-draft to be reversed one time (over their online chat system) and the person helping me was kind enough to reverse a couple other charges I hadn't even noticed. This was not the situation today. My account over-drafted because, over the weekend, my father wanted to buy a used car and wasn't able to get to the bank because it was closed. I had enough money in my account, so I used my PayPal to make the transaction with the seller. Of course, on Monday, the check I dropped for for my rent the prior Wednesday went through, and my account over-drafted. I brought the check from my father in to the bank and asked them to clear the charge. The teller, who had been polite, if a little cold, told me that she would have to go ask her manager. I waited for about 10 minutes while she went to the back, and when she finally returned, she told me that she would not be able to clear the $30 overdraft fee. I asked to speak to the manager. Again, the teller went to the back, and again, it took forever for her to reappear, accompanied by the supervisor. She asked how she could help. I told her that I would like a courtesy reversal of the overdraft fee. After telling me she would not be able to do that, she began to lecture me about how the credit union was actually doing me a favor, because they paid the amount of the check and therefore prevented me from incurring more fees from the other party. I said that I understood that, but I was still being charged $30 by them and I would like a courtesy clearing of the charge. She then told me that she had seen other charges reversed on my account and that they couldn't just clear it every time I over-drafted, following up with a patronizing lecture about how over-drafting worked. In the end, she did clear the charge, but it was only after I spent over 20 minutes in the bank waiting around and being condescended to. It's not like I'm in there every other week asking for a charge to be cleared. This doesn't happen often. I've been with this credit union for 7 years now, and when I go into my local branch with the expectation of good customer service, they treat me like a naughty child. I'm a busy person, but this experience motivated me enough (in the negative sort of way) to write a Yelp review and look at other options for banking my money. read more

Recently I was in the branch on East Valley Parkway known as the Escondido Civic.Center Branch where I normally do my.personal banking I had been in this branch Friday befe at several minutes before closing time that day I had received my workman's comp check which was in the excess of $20,000 and less than $30,000 I had three of them as they were the settlement for my claim I have never been in a situation before with a check this large trying to deposit it into my bank account so it was a new experience for me I went to the teller she looked at the check and said she needed to talk to the manager as I stood there and waited for her return the manager Alex Hinkson came to the teller window and told me that this institution could not give me cash back on the deposit of my work comp claim settlement check and that she would have to call the bank on which the check was issued the following Tuesday of next week to make sure I believe that the check was not a forgery. Ms Hinkson also said that I should go to the Chase Bank branch and cash it there I tried pleading my case explaining that I needed some money so I would not be forced to sleep on the street with rain in the forecast it did no good and I left the bank the next day Saturday I set out to try to cash the check at some nearby check cashing places I found one by Northgate Market in Escondido I was able to deposit the check there and was told in 10 days being November 30th I would receive a portion of my check $5,000 cash so I went along with this and left my check at the institution. Too days later being Monday I went back to my bank of five years San Diego County Credit Union Escondido Civic.Center Branch and waited in line to deposit a second check of the three I received for work comp settlement the teller said she needed to talk to the manager before I could deposit my check. I stood and waited fir approximately five minutes before Ms Alex Hinkson abruptly came to the teller.window and with a voice loud enough that the customers in line could hear exclaimed in rudeness that this institution would not be able to deposit this check as it had come back as being fraudulent. Embarrassed by her remark and being looked at as if I were a criminal by the some odd 20 customers in line she rudely exclaimed what did j do with the other check and i replied a check cashing place by Northgate Market is holding it and I was told to come back on the 30th November to get $5.000.00 and on December 7th I would get the balance of $15.206.00 less the 1 percent check cashing fee of $194.00 for cashing check ar there institution. I then hastily Embarrassed by the looks the customers were giving me left the bank. I then left the bank and went to another check cashing place and gave the check to them and was able to get $2.500.00 in cash. And told I would get $5.000.00 more on Monday at 10 am once they had spoken to the insurance claim adjuster and the check would clear. With the check cashing fees of 1 being $1.425.96 and the other check cashing fee being $194.56 it has cost.me along with paying for rides to and from these places. I'm very upset with Sdccu for causing me all the grief embarrassing encounters and money as mentioned above for this horrible experience when all they needed to do was deposit the check into one of the three bank accounts I have had with them for over 5 years. read more
