Actually these five stars go to the staff at this Santee, CA, branch. Especially Kendrick. On several occasions he has serviced our needs for various transactions. He is pleasant and thorough in handling our needs. Navy Federal is truly the place to bank for any savings and CD accounts. They offer a fantastic return for our money. Our only complaint with the bank is that they handle most things through a third party which tends to lag. We just got so spoiled with our previous bank that everything was same day (bill payments and Zelle) Not so here. Like I said the staff is the best!!! Well it's a heck of a lot better than Grossmont. I hate having to drive out my way from the Grossmont area. They are way more efficient than the Grossmont location. So far, so good. Navy Fed is still on my shit list, but for now, this is working a lot better than Grossmont was working. I like that they play some music here, helps the stress levels. The greeter is nicer here too. Says hello and goodbye in an actual friendly way. I know that is their job, but it comes across a lot nicer and more pleasant. Yes, I'm still paying off my stuff here and ultimately looking for a new home bank, not Navy Fed, but until I move, this is my new spot. It's a good-ish solution for now. read more

They employ some extremely shady bait and switch tactics. They advertise low auto loan rates only to raise them after you apply for a loan. And they make you become a member just to apply for an auto loan. They tried to tell me that I was a high-risk borrower because I was a new member, isn't that what credit scores are for? My credit is impeccable, and my income to debt ratio is outstanding. There is no excuse for them to offer a 6.09٪ interest rate to get to open an account only to switch it to 8.69% after you apply for the loan. read more

She was patient and very friendly. She was easy to work with at a time when my dad was a little stressed out. She made the experience so much more bearable. Not too enthusiastic about waiting to speak with someone only to find out that this particular branch doesn't handle business account creation (the El Cajon Branch does). I could have been told this prior and went straight to a branch that could assist me. Never knew that I would run into a branch that couldn't handle everything in house. On a positive note when you open your checking/savings you have tons of benefits and can get a decent cc limit with less than perfect credit. The customer service is impeccable at this branch, despite the minor discrepancy. Out of times that I have called Customer Service otp I had one lady who was terribly rude, no one else has ever been that way but that has nothing to do with this branch just the Customer service phone. I would recommend 100% just beware probably not all branches handle business accounts which makes me doubt opening a business account with Navy Federal. read more

NFCU is horrible when trying to deal with mortgages. I have in process for over 3 months, been shuffled through three different mortgage processors, each of whom refuses to respond to emails or phone calls, or provide regular updates - even when I resort to calling on a daily basis to try and get ahold of someone. Each change has been accompanied by me requiring to reinform or resubmit the same information I've already done. This lack of responsiveness and withholding of information is completely unprofessional and unacceptable. While they're banking, etc., has always been adequate, my experience with them as a mortgage company has been horrific. read more

I do like the location of this branch due to the fact that it is in the middle of everything and besides the fact that it is also near Best Buy. As most of us Yelp users do, I take all reviews with a grain of salt. Some reviews seem to have been written in a fit of rage and the incoherency accented with all capital letters screams "upset customer." Those reviews actually make me distrust the reviewer slightly, though however unfair that may be. I always thought one should take a breath, step back, give it a few minutes, then write the review. Let me make an exception here. I walk up to the branch at 1:59pm according to my trusty Steve Jobs apparatus. I run up to the door with a slight elation - nothing gets your blood going like playing beat the clock to the bank - and pull the door handle. It's locked. There's a guy sitting there, dark haired, dark complexion, and usually a fairly pleasant fellow. I forget his name... Anyway, he mouths "Dbsjkakz hshdjsjjaj... djfkek ckdksk." from where he's sitting. What? He does it again. ... huh? He finally gets off his ass, walks over to the locked door, refusing to open it still, and yells "We're closed! We close at 2!" I look at my watch, notice it had just turned 2 while he was pantomiming, and tell him that I just need to deposit a check. He says with a complete and utter indifference, "So? We close at 2. Sorry" then walks away. Did he just say, "So?" [mind: blown] Now, I've been with Navy Federal Credit Union for about 14 years since that one fateful evening in bootcamp when they forced us naive kids to sign up for NFCU. I've been coming to this branch for over 5 of those years. Sad to say, I've had a longer relationship with Navy Fed than all of my relationships with other banks, cars, and women COMBINED. This is the service I get? Granted, he doesn't know me from Adam, but I did run up in a three- piece suit (on my way to work) so he knows I'm not some bum trying to cash a $3 pity check. In fact, I know he recognizes me from all those other times I've run in. So for him to turn me away when I arrived right at closing time, it tells me exactly what my value is to the bank and the employees here. Now, the Chula Vista branch, where I've only been a few times, opened the door and let me in 5 minutes AFTER they closed on a Friday evening. Granted, she did chide me and let me know to come in on time from now on in a sweet motherly way, but that's a way to build loyalty - on a foundation of gratitude. Over the years, I've diversified my banking due to my inherent distrust of all banking organizations so I have accounts with SDCCU and Kinecta. However, NFCU has always been my go- to for everything I needed done. Even at the risk of losing an account with the longest history and hurting my credit slightly, I'm done with Navy Federal. This review is for the SANTEE OFFICE, as it should be, not Navy Federal Credit Union as a whole. We have banked with Navy Fed for 5 years, have never had any issues. We moved to Lakeside last year and for the first time this week, went to the Santee branch. We thought it was going to be a tiny little place, but the outside is deceiving. It is a very large branch. We came in to the branch to see what interest rate they could offer us on an auto loan. We worked with Will, who helped us out with soooo much more than what we had originally arrived for. He was nice, and patient. I must point out though, when we first arrived, there were 3 women at the front desk clearly doing something, but not ONE of them picked their head up to acknowledge us. Yea, they're doing their jobs proficiently.. but poor customer service. Came in to print a new card and ended up waiting 30 minutes before I had to go and ask the status. When I went back to ask about my card THAT'S when the personnel wanted to tell me that the card machine was down. So they let me wait for there a half an hour just to hear that I have to come back? My experience with Navy Federal has not been all that great for being a Credit Union. My credit card is currently 15% interest while my credit rating is in the 700's. I've been banking with them for almost 2 years and making large payments to my credit card ON TIME every month. I signed up for a "Flagship Rewards" card back in February and while getting the card, I asked the rep on the phone if there was something they could do to lower my interest rate. She replies "No, I'm sorry". I called again today (4 months later) about lowering my interest rate and they tell me I can't request that again for 12 months! Are you F-ing kidding me? My interest rate through Wells Fargo is lower than Navy Fed! To top it off, the rep on the phone told me you get instant discounts at hotels and restaurants that participate in the rewards program. That's bull crap.. The rep I talked to today says you have to pay for gift cards. If I had known that I wouldn't have wasted my time or money signing up for the rewards card in the first place. I feel very misled... Also, last month I purchased a new Honda and Navy Federal wanted 16% interest on the loan. That's pretty ridiculous for a "military-friendly" credit union. I couldn't believe they wanted that much... I ended up getting 1.99% financing through Honda. Overall I'm growing more and more unhappy with Navy Federal and plan on taking my money out of their bank(s). They can go screw themselves. read more

Made me jump through hoops to try to get an auto loan only to be told I need my SS card. IRS said 14 days before card could be issued, the dealer is not going to wait that long to get a loan. I provided Navy with my 1099 showing my SS as well as other tax documents & they said not acceptable. A waste of many hours on my part with no satisfaction from Navy. Seems ridiculous that tax forms are not adequate as a form of Social Security card. Am I going to pay tax for someone else? Don't waste your time with Navy. read more

I'd give 0 stars but don't have that option. I happened to goo by there with many bills that were over filling my wallet and inquired about changing them for bigger bills. The woman who helped me had to find out if she could do this so I stood there for about 5 minutes while she did a bunch of stuff on her computer and she told me that since I wasn't a member she couldn't assist me with my request. I found that pretty ridiculous and clearly not customer service oriented. Then she tried to acquire an account with me. LOL Poor customer service. So would they have been more likely to gain an account by helping someone or by denying their initial request for any service? Seems clear to me. read more

I must give credit and recognition where it's due, I had the pleasure of being assisted by an employee named William, he was superb, he went the extra mile to make sure all of my concerns were addressed and informed me of free services that i wasn't even aware of, he went above and beyond and was so genuine and took as long as I needed to make sure I was 100% percent taken care of, I have never met a bank employee with this much compassion for their customers. I will return to this location even if it's not the closest to my home only because of his attention to detail and to his customer's concerns. Kudos and Good job William! I walked in at 1:45pm only 15 minutes before closing, which is probably why I was able to do my banking fairly quickly and the teller was polite. After she asked me, "is there anything else I can help you with sir?" I followed with, "yes, could you guys please replace my currently damaged debit card?" She responded by telling me that I had to go to the front desk for a card replacement, so I did. As soon as they start processing my request I realized that I didn't have my phone on me! Big deal right? Well it sort of is since I have a pregnant significant other who's getting ready to explode, therefore, having my phone on me is a must at this time. I ask the lady(tall robust older redheaded woman wearing a purple top and black pants) guarding the door at 2:01pm if i could please step out to retrieve my phone since I was waiting for my card. She replied, "no if you step out you can't walk back in." Not in the most polite tone either. Might I add that she allowed a man to walk in at 2:01pm for his banking necessities even after the door had already locked for one minute? If you're going to be cruel at least be just. Never coming here again. Branch managers, it appears as though some of your employees have no etiquette, perhaps some etiquette training would help this branch achieve better ratings.
