The installers were excellent at measuring and getting the curve correct that the iron fence would have to follow along a concrete patio edge. Both gates work beautifully. The install was no easy feat, as it required removing old wooden posts and fencing, cutting concrete, and running electrical up and over from a decent distance. His installation team were top notch. It was necessary to use a new iron post, which required cutting a hole in the concrete to set it. The electrical line was placed out of view. The gate works flawlessly and looks amazing. We would never recommend this company to anybody. Simon came out to give us a quote for 2 gates. His price range originally was around $9,000 and when he came out it was suddenly over $10,000.00 for which he demanded $5,000.00 deposit. By law, a contractor is supposed to only ask for 10% once the estimate is approved. When my husband questioned him about that then he said he would need $1000.00 that day! He tried to discourage my husband to do anything other than what he suggested which was not to our liking and then he had to abruptly leave but said he would be back. He never came back. He called and when my husband told him we were going to get another estimate, he hung up on my husband! Very unprofessional, outrageously expensive and down right rude. We will spread the word to stay away from this company. read more

Very disappointing. The gate itself is pretty but it took 2 tries to get it right because of miscommunication between Simon, the owner and the fabricators. The installers also drilled in to my hot water pipe so no water the rest of the day until I could get an emergency plumber and Simon refused to make it right by paying for the plumber or taking some money off. He also did not call to apologize...I had to call him. Not good customer service. read more

Renee was quick to answer to get the job and even more to collect the deposit but after that when we say the gates had issues to name a few: wrong size/paint was fading after 3 months etc we have tried several times to communicate with no success and if he's responsive he only blames his welder who fortunately he did answer our calls but there are still issues. They aren't cheap by any means and Renee has horrible customer service and doesn't seem to care to say the least. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere! read more

We had San Diego Iron Gates install two posts, two large white swing gates, and control on a property we recently purchased. During the installation of the gates the jobber, working for San Diego Iron Gates, caused $1400.00 damage to a new paver driveway we had installed. Simon had the jobber come back out and attempt to remove the damage which was not possible. After we insisted that SDIG was responsible for that cost Simon agreed to deduct that from our cost. The gates were installed in September of this year and are now showing surface rust indicating poor prep and paint on the gates. We believe that the gates are under warranty for a year but we'll be looking elsewhere for a repaint. We would suggest you look elsewhere for your gates. read more

Warning: Consumer beware - do not use this company! We commissioned 2 courtyard gates - nothing complicated, straightforward design. The gates were expensive in our opinion, but we felt they would complete the look we were going for in our front yard. Two gates for $3,200. The gentleman who installed the gates was professional and courteous, so we have no negative feedback about him. These gates were installed a little more than a year ago and although they "looked" really nice; they immediately began chipping with the slightest contact on the gate. I reached out to the owner, Simon, within the first 30 days post installation and was placated - he said his "man" would drop off some touch up paint, but that we should just wait and see what happened. After 13 months the gates continue to degrade - paint chips everywhere and the locking handles and mechanisms have completely chalked out making the gates look much older than they should. The final straw for me was when I put a small piece of scotch tape on the gate to leave a note for someone, and it completely removed all the paint underneath - for an outside gate, this is ridiculous. I contacted Simon again, and he has been un-helpful, disinterested and appears to have no intention of making this right. We have been business owners for the last 25 years and have a clear understanding of customer service and standing behind a product, and we really made a mistake using San Diego Iron Gates. In addition, we have had many custom gates and trellises fabricated over the last 20 years living in a much harsher climate than San Diego and never had these kinds of problems - for a lot less money too! If anyone is considering using this company and you would like to see what happens AFTER your gates are installed, please let me know, and I am happy to provide pictures showing the lack of quality. read more

Like many stores and shops, they were impacted by COVID-19 infections to cause some delay, but they worked fast to minimize the delay and still deliver high quality products. The prices were comparable but I chose San Diego Iron Gates because its website was very effective at showing the options. I was able to view a photo of the kind of gate I wanted and talked with Simon on the phone. He gave me an informal "order of magnitude" estimate and I decided to have him take measurements and give me a formal bid. I liked Simon's straight-forward, professional approach. I bought two custom gates for our courtyard. The main gate has two moving sides. The Purchase Agreement is dated January 20, 2020, with an estimated completion date of March 7, 2020, was signed by Simon Shams and me. The job description states the purchase price includes "installed w/a lockset." At the time of installation, the installer (Omar, who I also believe actually does the iron work), said he'd have to charge me almost $300.00 more to be able to install the gate properly. He wanted to fill the wood/stucco columns to which the gate attaches with concrete. I told him that the contract price includes installation. He proceeded with the installation without properly preparing the columns. Of course, one side of the gate started detaching from the column. I had a masonry contractor remove the gates and build in an anchoring system at a cost of about $1,000. When he reattached the gates, they were off center so that they wouldn't latch. He said, and it was visually apparent, that the gates were not manufactured so that they fit the space properly. I then got ahold of Simon. He sent Omar to fix the problem. Indeed, Omar needed to remove the welded hinges, and re-weld them in the proper position. The gate works fine now, but at an extra cost of $150 (which is very reasonable but for the fact that the contract provided for installation). One other caution, the "fine print" on the back of the Purchase Agreement (which consists of a half of a sheet of paper) provides for a 90 day warranty. Although I don't believe the warranty limitation is enforceable, to avoid the argument, any savvy buyer should have that changed to at least a year given the type of product and the buyer's reliance on the expertise of the installer, not to mention my experience. read more

We had multiple bad experiences with this company concerning the installation of a Security gate at a 10 unit apartment we own in North Park. They did not stand by their product when it failed repeatedly and would not remedy the problem caused by the way they installed the latch. The gate and punch key entrance system we put in were what was recommended by San Diego Iron Gates . When it was finished the postal service told us they could not deliver the mail with that type of entry system. The company then charged us $600 to install a separate entry system for mail delivery. We thought a gate company should have been aware of this problem when they quoted us the installation. Then the gate latch began to fail within a few weeks. San Diego Iron Gates went out to adjust it once and told us that the tenants were abusing the mechanism. We warned all of the tenants to be gentle with the gate. The same gate in the back of the building had no problems. It failed again and they would not come out to fix it. They wanted $125 to adjust the gate even though it was only a couple of months of brand new. We talked to the company who made the lock and they sent us replacement parts to fix the lock. San Diego Iron Gates would not install them without a service charge. We put them in ourselves and the fence failed again. Turns out the distance between the latch and the gate was too big and that put excessive force on the latch. San Diego Iron Gates would not come out for free so we fixed that ourselves. Now the latch works fine but no thanks to this company. read more

The design was very complex, Simon and his team made multiple efforts to duplicate the design but sadly were unsuccessful. After discussion we realized that the design was the problem and we are choosing a different direction. In the end, despite the hard work and time devoted towards our project Simon remained a composed businessman interested in our satisfaction more than making a couple bucks. A rare quality amongst most people today. When I am ready to replace the railing on my deck I know who to call.
