Our stay at the San Diego KOA exceeded every expectation we had. From the moment we arrived, it was clear the property is exceptionally well maintained--clean, clearly marked, and beautifully landscaped with mature trees, manicured bushes, and vibrant flowers throughout. We especially loved the fire pits, and the firewood delivery service was impressively fast and convenient. Our cabin was another highlight--spotless, thoughtfully appointed, and incredibly comfortable. The air conditioning worked perfectly, which made our stay even more enjoyable. Getting around the campground was easy, and it was simple to connect with other family members staying nearby. Despite seeing some reviews mentioning noise, we experienced none at all--just a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. Check-in was quick and seamless, and every staff member we encountered was warm, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. Their friendliness really added to the overall experience. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and will absolutely recommend it to friends and family. Whether you're traveling as a couple or with family, this is a fantastic place to stay. Room - We rented the Deluxe Cabin (Full Bath with Shower), KOA Patio ® Sleeping Loft. One room had a queen-sized bed, another very small room had a bunkbed (2 beds total), there was a couch in the main area that folded out and there was a large loft space with what looked to be a queen-sized mattress. Note, you couldn't stand up in the loft (perhaps small kids could - I'm 5'2" and could not). Kitchen had decent sized fridge, stove, microwave, toaster, pots, pans, and utensils. Outside was a propane grill (worked great), a fire pit with 4 Adirondack chairs and tables and an umbrella covered picnic table with I believe 6 chairs. There was also a stand up bar height table by the fire pit. And I almost forgot the best part - one bathroom with sink, toilet and shower. Linens provided (bed and bath). Nearby activities: Very easy to travel to all the sites from this location (beaches, parks, zoo, etc.) SafetyI felt very safe staying here as a female. Food & drinks: They have a cafe of sorts on site but we did not check it out. Of note: Some of the outer perimeter tent campsites were right off the freeway. Stayed in a deluxe cabin at San Diego Metro KOA and had a really great experience overall. The cabin can comfortably accommodate up to 6 people -- there's a queen bed in the master, a queen mattress in the loft, bunk beds, and even a foldout couch. It came fully stocked with linens, towels, and even beach towels, which was a nice touch. The kitchenette with a full-size fridge was perfect for our needs, and outside we had a gas grill, a table with an umbrella that seats six, plus a fire pit with four Adirondack chairs -- great setup for relaxing evenings. The air conditioning worked really well, which we definitely appreciated. The bathroom was on the smaller side, and the sink never got hot water, but the shower and kitchen hot water worked just fine. Honestly, having a private bathroom at all was a big plus compared to walking to the shared comfort station. One thing to note: there's no daily housekeeping like a hotel, so you'll need to tidy up after yourselves during your stay. The campground itself is clean, well-maintained, and gated, so it feels safe and not open to random foot traffic. There are tons of amenities -- pool, playground, convenience store, jumping pillow, dog park -- though we didn't use many since we spent most of our time at the beach. They also offer firewood delivery for a fee, which is super convenient. We had read some reviews about noise from other campers, but that wasn't our experience at all. Everyone seemed respectful of quiet hours, and it was peaceful during our stay. Beds were comfortable -- definitely beats sleeping on the ground or an air mattress. Our second camping trip here with my son! The first time, I booked a tent site for $85 a night because I wanted us to have an authentic camping experience and create special memories sleeping inside a tent. Today, I booked the cabin which includes one full bed and a bunk bed, providing sleeping accommodations for four guests. I paid about $143 a night but FYI it does not come with linens. You do need to bring your own linens or you can request it for an additional $15 per set. The cabin was really cute, and I liked it a lot. It was clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The best part was that we were at Room 1412, which is right next to the cooking station, and very close to the bathroom making our camping experience much more convenient and enjoyable. My only complaint is the porch swing. It was very squeaky. The constant noise became quite annoying and gave me a headache. The cooking station has gas grills available for guests to use, so we didn't even need to use our own charcoal. It made our camping experience incredibly easy, and convenient. There are lots of fun activities for kids to do like the jumping trampoline. Bike rentals for $13-$20 an hour which opens from 8 AM to 4 PM and they also have a big swimming pool to cool off. They also have a gift shop and a café. There is also an area as well passed the bathrooms and RVs where you can play volleyball or sometimes they offer some sorts of different fun activities depending on the day or events. We always have an amazing experience, although I met a "Karen" today, but I did not let that ruin our beautiful staycation. At night, you can order wood if you want to have a bonfire or make s'mores and they will deliver it to your cabin for $9 a pack. I think this is one of my favorite spots and things to do in San Diego with my son. read more

We stayed for a week and so glad we did! Each day there was fun events, dj at the pool, bouncy pillow, arts n crafts, karaoke, shaved ice, water balloon toss, rental bikes, the walk in pool is great! The kids had a blast and felt very safe. Grounds are immaculate. The event coordinator is amazing and front office staff treats you like family. Can't beat it, location is pretty central too. From Rv sites, cabins, mini houses, tent sites, dog park, they have thought of everything. read more

Glamping with the RV--our family's first time trying out an RV/campsite experience, and I thought it would be the perfect spot since it's down in SD. As we drove in, seeing a few homeless people under the bridge was a bit unsettling, but I figured we wouldn't need to venture out much for shopping, so it wasn't a huge deal. Well, turns out, we did need to make a walking trip to Food 4 Less. And, let's just say, that wasn't the most exciting part of the trip. The campground itself was awesome! It was great to see all the different types of camping options--tents, cabins, villas, and those gazebo things in the back. We especially loved the 24/7 showers. The pool was perfect on weekdays, but once Friday rolled around, it got super crowded. I think it would help if they had a second pool to spread people out a bit. One of my favorite features was the option to pay for firewood with free delivery and setup right to your campsite. The jumping pillows were a hit with the kids, though they got a bit too hot in the summer sun. Still, they were perfect for afternoon fun. We brought our dogs along, and the K9 play area was great for keeping them entertained. I really loved all the activities for kids, but I wasn't too thrilled that almost all the fun activities came with an additional fee. Overall, it was a really nice experience, and we'd definitely come back in the future. read more

I stayed there for a weekend and it was a nice place to stay. Clean and staff was good. The only problems I had with it was that there was a Karen there filing complaint against me or might be a racist person. I am Asian and my wife was Hispanic. Got a text from the KOA about rules and regulations on noises and leaving stuff out like bikes. Which don't have bikes and we played a Latin music for about 10 minute in the day time and not quite time 10pm. We didn't leave any food out. We had an RV toy hauler. KOA didn't post my review up because it want to stay in a good standing. Again place is not bad. Just the people there camping with you are. read more

The place is nice. They have amenities for kids, play area and jumpy. Whatever you do, do not sign up for the rewards. Not even worth it. It's extra $40, you get 10% off when you check in and can never get free night stay because if you even accumulate 25000 points you only get $25 off. The staff there can help help when you ask them for information on your account. We stayed there for a month, they are quick to collect payment the first of the month but the benefits do lot accumulate in your account. Place is nice just to stay there for a few days but don't stay there long term and whatever you do, don't become a rewards member. read more

The place was great as well as the campground and amenities but the only terrible I experience I had was with the food service at their restaurant Surf Shack. I tried ordered a breakfast burrito & asked for a chorizo and egg and got just an egg burrito and when I brought it back they said they could make me a new one. I waited for a long time & saw other people getting their food so I asked how long the burrito would take only for the lady to just walk away and disappear. Another worker came up and said they forgot to make it. All the workers were just standing there and looking tired and inattentive as well so it was just a bad experience overall. read more

This park is the ultimate "kid friendly" camping experience. Tent sites, cabins, park models, RV spaces of varying types - and many amenities to keep the kids busy. We were last here 17 years ago, and the improvements since then are massive and stunning. A huge pool, restaurant, kids activities, etc. Be advised though, the roads are narrow and RV sites not super big. If you've got a trailer or coach bigger than 30 feet, it'll be a tight squeeze here. Watch for the kids! They're zipping around all over the place on bikes, skates, scooters, etc. It can be noisy - most of the guests here are living outside (tent camping, or outside the RV with a campfire and TV set going). That said, if you're cool with all this, you'll probably have a great time. read more

I've been staying here for over 15 years. It's been a family tradition and my father is a member. This place has never been perfect but what place is? But my complaint is we stayed in a deluxe cabin with my 6lb chihuahua and they are claiming he made a large scratch in their couch cushion and charged us the pet deposit. The couch cushion was scratched when we got there and the arm rest had some wear and tear so I figured they knew what their cabin looked like and didn't think I needed to inform them of the issue. Well I should have because even with the picture my mother in law took proving the scratch was there before hand doesn't matter and I was told by Al "what's done is done." Al also said that his head of housekeeping has been with them for 6-7 years and they always inspect so they would have caught it before our stay. Which obviously they didn't.... Also he allowed my dad to authorize a payment on my credit card which should be illegal since it's in MY NAME not his. But again "what's done is done." Photos attached. read more

We LOVE staying here! The staff is friendly and the park is beautiful. We come several times a year to escape the AZ heat! This past weekend once we got there our A/C's went out we had a mobile tech come out and after dealing with warranties and schedules the only day and time was check out day... we went and spoke to Al and he kindly said we could stay past checkout and wait for the repair to be done! (2/5) Review: 2025 Fall Festival Stay Our family has been attending the Fall Festival at this KOA since 2019, and it's always been one of our favorite annual trips. The campground itself is great -- well maintained, clean, and full of nice amenities. The RV spaces, especially the preferred pull-through sites, are large and convenient. That said, this year's Fall Festival was a real disappointment compared to previous years. The overall energy was noticeably lower, and the number of activities has clearly gone down. In past years there were hayrides, a dance party, and scheduled crafts throughout the day on Saturday. This year, those were gone. What's left is just pumpkin carving (with fewer and lower-quality pumpkins available), a small carnival with no real prizes, and trick-or-treating. The Friday night magic show was also underwhelming. It's disappointing to see the KOA cutting back on what used to be such a fun and festive weekend, especially as the prices keep going up. Also, it feels unfair that the guests in deluxe sites are able to rebook those same spots year after year -- it makes it nearly impossible for returning families like ours to ever get a patio or deluxe site, even after six years of attending. We still love this campground, but we truly hope KOA brings back the full Fall Festival experience that made this event so special in the past. read more

We just finished an amazing stay at San Diego KoA, and I can confidently say this is one of the best campgrounds we've ever visited! The grounds are impeccably maintained, with minimal dirt or mess, and the staff here goes above and beyond. It almost feels like they're overstaffed (in the best way possible) because you'll find them everywhere--always ready to help with a smile. Our kids were thrilled with the number of activities available, and the best part? Everything, from the activities to the gift shop items and even the snow cones, was reasonably priced--no gouging here! We did tye dye shirts, slime, legos, painting plasters, snow cones, bike rentals, etc. There was a brief issue on Saturday when the power blew due to the 96-degree heat, but we were incredibly impressed with how the situation was handled. Within 30 minutes, everything was back up and running, and an employee came door-to-door to personally check on everyone and ensure everything was restored. A special shoutout to Bobbi, the Recreation Director, who was actively involved the whole time we were there. She suggested we come back later in the month for the first weekend of their Halloween festivities, where the entire campground is decorated, and they do door-to-door trick-or-treating. We were so excited about this that we booked another stay right on the spot for three weeks from now! We cannot recommend enough --whether you're here with family or just looking to relax, you won't be disappointed. We're already counting down the days until our return! read more

4.5. My 7 year old wanted to go camping and after the traumas of camping as a child we thought this would be a good introduction to seeing if we could handle real tent camping. We stayed here on a Saturday night in one of the "glamping" tents aka Eco tents. These tents have a full size bed, a separate area with 3 bunk beds, sink, coffee maker,microwave and fridge that has freezer and fridge part. There was a trash can in there and a rug that covered most of the floor. I appreciated that the bed had a high head board and foot board so if you are laying in bed you aren't awkwardly staring into someone else's tent and they can't see you. The tent walls allow you to have vented screens to allow air in or a closed regular tent wall. I am short so some of the zippers were too tall for me to reach to open so we didn't get to fully air out the tent. The area also has a gas grill, picnic table, fire pit with 4 Adirondack chairs that have a place between them for drinks or food. These tents have your parking space behind them so it is easy to load and unload. These are also super close to the restrooms and showers. Showers are individual rooms with a door that closes. I didn't use them but peeked in and they have a bench outside the shower area, and a spacious shower. Bathrooms had a hood amount of sinks and stalls. Bathrooms were clean and supplied. Check in was easy. Staff at check in were friendly. Keys are on sturdy metal surf board keychains. We didn't know about the $50 deposit for dogs but they stated as long as there was no damage we would get it refunded (we did). They stated if we needed firewood they would deliver it to campsite for $8. We had gone to Home depot and bought wood for more. We tried to check out the rock climbing wall(which no longer exists). But we went to the jumping pillows, did the beach treasure dig which requires a purchase at the gift shop. We did the $19.99 plus tax bag and it had been sitting around for a while and had moisture or got wet as the shark tooth necklace disintegrated after opening. We checked out the dog park, which is by the basketball court. They also had a gaga ball court? Pit? We did not see the horseshoe area or the surf shack shootout. They did have movie under the stars which we didn't know about and were trying to light a fire and make smores. Sunday we checked out the playground and got a barrel ride before check out. I will say this place is crowded. Sites are close to each other and there are tons of people. Tons of kids. Many just roaming, riding bikes, blaring music etc. it did get quiet during quiet hours so we had no issues with getting to sleep. It is well lit to get to the restrooms as I went in the middle of the night. We had breakfast at the Sand castle cafe and food was mediocre (bland) and overpriced. We got chilaquiles $16, kids breakfast #2 $10 and the big kahuna burrito $12 for a total of $41.32 with tax. Ordered a hot chocolate separate (their coffee machine was broken, only serving drip coffee which was still like $5) and it was $4.35 with tax. Overall a fun experience for us and the dogs! We will be back (when there is availability! Seems to be booked on the weekends regularly) read more

For all my Yelpers that love to camp, this place is a gem. My suggestion would be to become a member so you get notified of any deals coming up. We have been to multiple locations and this is our favorite. My 17 year old son loves it too. They have lots of activities and amenities that include jumping pillows, salt water pool, barrell train, rock climbing wall, activity center, cafe, and a location to rent bikes and other cool equipment. Make sure to check the calendar before you visit because each month they have other activities for the guests. On our trip, we were able to do the Snow Cone Social and make our own tie dye hoodies. The kids love it. The campground itself is huge and so many different accommodations. We usually do the true camping in a tent, so we book tent sites. our last visit we were in the tent village, which is a strip full of spots. You are closer to the people next to you, so if that's not what you are into, I would suggest book in a regular tent site. If you are a glamper, they do have cabins and deluxe cabins that look pretty cool. They have a couple of yurts, which is a must do for me. And if that's not your forte, you can also bring your own RV and park it in a spot. These spots have a fire pit which is pretty cool. I will definitely be back to this location especially because it isn't too far from Downtown. read more

We came for Marie Luther King weekend We arrived late at night the office was open until 9 PM , we got texted often with nice messages about our ETA. Turned us away from using the amenities when arriving at 1:30 with our 2 month old and 2 year old. People cannot perfectly time their arrival to align with 4pm check in, guests should be allowed to use the pool area especially when they are willing to spend $150 on renting a cabana . I did the express check in as soon as I received the email around 8am. This is ridiculous. I have been coming for more than 8 years and have never had such an inconsiderate response to arriving early. Mind you, it was 1:30pm early arrival, come on KOA. KOA San Diego is nestled between two cities National City and Chula Vista. For many years I've been driving by this place and never knew what a great hidden place was just a few minutes from our house. We were invited to stay over the weekend for a birthday celebration. We initially decided to reserve a tent site, but as the days came closer to "camp" we decided to change our plans and get a cabin that came up last minute on the KOA site. We are not campers so it was nice to know that we can still be part of the festivities and not worry about bringing much. Our newly deluxe cabin with patio was amazing. Perfect size for our family. It had a king bed downstairs and a queen bed and two full beds in the loft upstairs. AC, with a full kitchen and a dinning table. Talk about a staycation in San Diego. Our kids had a blast riding their bikes around the property and going to the underground trampoline or the playground. There's a whole schedule for the week full of activities for the family. Friendship bracelet making, bingo night, decorate your own pillowcase, and many more activities. It's endless fun. The best part was the huge pool. You can also rent a cabana for a good price compared to other places. The weekend we went was very busy. There was a church group and a few birthday parties, but that didn't stop us from having fun! There's a convenience store next to the check in area and a cafe. The location to the KOA was near the freeway, but not once did we hear traffic or cars driving by. It truly felt like we were somewhere else. The staff around the property was very nice. This is just the starting point of our camping adventures. Next time we will stay at other KOA's and enjoy the other cabins available. read more

Loved it!! I've never heard of these or been to one & I needed a cheap place to stay in SD with my husband, good friend, and our dogs. All the hotels looked beyond sketchy so when my friend sent us the link for the glamping tent, I was still skeptical, but it seemed like a much better option. It was!!! And I'm so glad we stayed! You could hear the highway from where we were and the streets were littered with kids. But it was clean and comfortable. We take our grandkids 'camping' each summer. They enjoy swimming pools, jump pillows, bikes & crafts so a KOA getaway is a good option for a couple nights. When they are a little older or we have more time, we'll go camping. This urban KOA has great activities for families - a large pool, bike rentals, gold/jewel panning, scavenger hunt. There's also a small snack bar that serves light meals & drinks. The freeway is nearby but surprisingly quiet, a least at our Rv site. There's plenty of trees offering shade but can drop a lot of debris onto your roof & awning. A flock of birds like to overnight in these trees & can add to the mess. Fire rings are at most sites (or can be delivered) along with/ firewood purchased at the office store. This KOA doesn't offer the beach but all of San Diego's sights are a short drive away. read more

**Be aware of shady business practices** We've been coming to this KOA for several years without any problems. I'm not sure what's going on now, but the service is terrible. We weren't given wristbands at check in, but later were rudely asked where ours were. If you are going to go hard on a policy maybe have your front desk ensure they are actually handed out. Before checking out I made sure the cabin was cleaned out, swept and all items were in place. After check out, the KOA called to inform me they were charging us for 2 missing towels. Weird since they were there when we checked out. Also weird that we never even used 3 of the towels and they were still under the sink when we left. The other 3 dirty towels were in the shower. Dishonest employees and shady business practices. Again, if you are going to go hard on enforcing a "policy" you should have other systems in place to check out towels. Charging people after the fact is dishonest when we know we left them all there. We won't be returning because I don't trust that we won't be arbitrarily charged for who knows what the next time. So if you still want to book here make sure you take pictures of everything before you leave. read more

Great campground, but a couple of issues. This place is clean and the staff is great. Lots of things for kids to do. The two areas that need attention are the WiFi and noise at night. The WiFi is VERY weak. I had to go up to the office area to get WiFi. Zip at campsite. Also, it's a very noisy place at night until quite late (after midnight), especially on the weekends. Party central. Quiet hours are not enforced at all. We like KOA and expect to be able to rely on WiFi and quiet hours after 10:00pm. Hopefully this park will be able to address those issues soon. read more

If you get the older lady at the front, ask for someone else to help you. She COMPLETELY screwed up our reservations. Our parties made reservations in March, for a stay in August. We called and asked that our sites be next to each other since we are in a tent and the other is in an RV. They said no problem. We (tent) get here and check in and of course, mention the same thing again. The older lady put us in 1308 and said the other party would be in 1206...not bad, just a couple spaces down. Well we get here and an RV is already in 1206, but 1205, 1207 and 1208 are empty. We figure she misspoke and meant to say one of the other spots, so we unloaded the car and started setting up in our spot. As we're doing so, we notice that other RVs are coming in and parking in the empty spots that were close to us, so once we finished getting everything set up, we went back up to the front desk to ask again about the RV spot. The younger and more competent female employee looked at the map, and the look on her face was a dead indicator that she realized that the old lady had messed up. Apparently, RV spots 1205-1208 were all booked together, so our RV party was actually getting assigned 1201. Guess what tent site was right across and empty? Yup...you guessed it!! 1301!! ‍ Honestly don't know how some people get by in life. We have a serious lack of common sense in this world and if things don't change, I dunno what's gonna happen. Our reservation was made in October 2022 and we had a 35/foot camper (upgraded to 40). While we were in Utah I wrote them stating that we had the 40/foot after a bad experience there. Upon arrival we were put in a 30-amp spot which surprised me. You see, I had commented to them we were kind of new at this cross-country camping. They assured me we'd be fine. As I stated, even upon arrival, I didn't think 30 amp would be sufficient. They again assured me we'd be fine to just use 1 air conditioner. For that part we were fine. BUT ...I couldn't use the hair dryer, air fryer, washer & dryer, or anything but lights without turning off the 1 air conditioner. Groundskeepers were active in their jobs but we weren't escorted to our site as we have been at many KOAs. The staff were personable. The store was well-stocked. The main reason we were unhappy is we were in a whole row of 50-amp sites. I contacted them, saying I could pay for an upgraded site, once we realized we couldn't use anything with the 1 air conditioner but they said there was nothing they could do about it. We were there for 17 days visiting our family. We kept seeing tiny campers come and go in the 50/amp sites. I feel as though we were taken advantage of because I said we were novices at this cross country camping. THIS IS A TEACHING MOMENT! Why not actually look at the reservations and make recommendations? Particularly when someone is a beginner. read more

This was the absolute nicest place I ever stayed at. Cabins were beautiful ! Staff were amazing . So much to do with the family . We will be back many times . Safe , clean and amenities are above and beyond read more

This is a GREAT campground! We loved it. It is very expensive but we felt it was worth it. Again, top of the line campground. Why only 3 stars? In these times of remote business and dependence on online communication, entertainment, and family communication..... It is absolutely unacceptable to charge these prices and offer NO INTERNET. I complained at the office and was told "Yeah, it's awful". Really? Hey San Diego Metro Koa: You gotta fix this. Strong internet service over the entire park is just as important as water, sewer, power, and all your other awesome amenities. read more

On our first visit we reserved an end rv back in site. It was nice with full hook ups and cable tv (didn't use this time). The pads aren't too large, but there's a bit of grass between each one. The grounds are very well kept, green and trimmed. Sometimes though they start mowing earlier than preferred. This is a great place to take your dogs. There are several grassy areas and waste stations. There is also a large mulched pet pen at the back of the park with fun obstacles. For the kids (and adults!) there is a large bouncy pillow, basketball court, horseshoes, frisbee golf?, and turfed kid play pens. There's also a children's playground with picnic tables. The heated pool is huge! It is resort style with nice facilities and tables and chairs. They also offer cart rentals by the pool. There are nice bungalows for rent by the pool which are typically sold out far in advance. They also offer other bungalows in the main park, cabins, tents, and self tent sites with water spigots and outlets. The cafe turns out some decent food for an rv park. Quick bites include breakfast plates and sandwiches, lunch salads with proteins, etc. Make sure to check hours as they close early (1pm? Weekdays). The small general store at the main office offers a variety of essentials. They will deliver your purchased firewood bundles as well as complimentary fire pits. Please keep the pits on the patio and on top of their pallets. They offer propane for purchase as well as free air and a vacuum. This second visit we opted for a premium rv pull through end site. Unfortunately, this end site was at the crossroads of 2 main roads in the park as well as right across from the maintenance yard. There were vehicles all day long including trucks, tractors, and forklifts, etc. The road dust would constantly get kicked up a bit. The freeway was quite noisy as well, but nothing ear plugs can't take care of. I would steer clear of the northeast side of the park. Overall, we're pleased with the accommodations and amenities and likely to return again. read more

It's our second time staying here and we love it!! Our cabin is clean with 2 new AC units in the living room and bedroom. We enjoy the pool activity, jumping pillow and dog park as well. The gas grill outside our cabin is ready to be used with gas tank attached already. read more

We had been going to Chula Vista RV Resort for many years and now that it is gone, we decided to try this place as we are now full timers and use KOA's quite a bit in our travels. What a mistake. Our site was in the front row right in front of the laundromat and pool, both very noisy. The worst of this park is the narrow roads and tight sites nestled under the dirtiest trees I have very encountered. Our utilities were inches away from our neighbors picnic table and surrounded by bushes which made it hard to negotiate to work around them. The trees were filled nightly by roosting crows that crap on everything in sight. Anything left out was covered in bird crap. We had to even bring in the steps at night as they were covered in crap after the first night. I had to get the motorhome washed after leaving to our next destination to protect the paint. What a miserable experience. read more
