Aussie joining me for a ride!
    Gretel Y.

We had the best time! Butch was very friendly, accommodating, and helpful. He had a wide selection of water sports equipment and everything was in great quality. However, his dog, Aussie, stole the show. We almost had as much fun throwing the ball with him as we did kayaking and paddle boarding! Aussie jumped on my paddle board and kept me company for a while. We can't wait to return!

Everything looked great until the end of the first night when my son noticed the grounding pin had been broken off in the charging cable. The first and second night it charged fine. The morning of return pickup we noticed the unit had not totally charged. I made sure meet the rental staff when they picked it up to inform she. She frankly immediately copped an attitude and said she would charge us for the cord and also for not having the unit charged up on pickup. She indicated we should have called immediately when we noticed. Bottom line, I understand both sides, but we were honest and felt like we were accused of lying. I don't care about the extra charges if warranted, but we didn't damage the cord. They provide great carts. My suggestion? Double check everything and pester the crap out of them if anything is not working. They deserve 5 stars, but copped an attitude. We're not all stupid tourists....

Here is my story about Jerry and a pontoon he lovingly calls old faithful. Be warned Jerry does not…read moreset anyone up for success. I was down in Florida last week to spend time with my family and go fishing. Everything was going great until we met Jerry. Jerry had been contacted before our arrival and a pontoon boat was reserved. The morning of our rental Jerry was late delivering the boat, which I must say was in terrible shape. This pontoon was old, tired, and probably/hopefully in a recycle yard by now. While dropping off the boat Jerry stated that the cleaning lady that cleans the boat never showed and that there may be a slow leak. Remember the phrase "slow leak." The deck has folding chairs for seating, broken railings, wires hanging from the engine into the water, a throttle that has way too much play, and an anchor that if thrown overboard as delivered would have found a permanent home at the bottom of the bay. It was missing a tie off rope. So before we took off on our late start to fish we called Jerry and ask him to bring us a rope for the anchor. His shop was oh 100 yards away from where we were waiting on the dock. We gave him the driveway gate code to deliver the rope and waited. Jerry had forgotten the code and gone back to his shop. So what a normal person do if they forget a code on their way to deliver a much needed rope to a customer? Maybe call them back and ask them for the code again... Nope, he left and we sat there. 15 minutes go by so we call him back. We called him again and asked him again to return with rope. His was given the code a second time. At this point I feel like we were being pranked, so walked out to the gate to ensure that Jerry couldn't forget the code again and escape. Well, he had forgotten the code again and was turning his car around when I walked up. He handed me some rope and asked me to take some pictures for him while we were out fishing. I said sure and started walking back to the dock when I was met by a family member who saw me walking with the rope. We started unwinding it when we realized he had given us an old rope that was worn in half leaving us with two sections of maybe 5 feet and 10ish feet. Way too short for anything. Deep breaths were taken. By this point everyone had come to the conclusion that Jerry is either completely incompetent or malicious or both. Anyways, we end up borrowing a rope from another boat to save time and set sail in the "old reliable" pontoon boat. Fishing and having fun were the priority and we were trying not to let this guy ruin it. The positive attitudes were shattered when the boat started sinking on our way back in. It was noticed on our way out that one side of the boat sagged a bit more than the other. We figured it was normal for such an old reliable boat with a slow leak. Funny, I guess leaks can get progressively bigger. We limped old faithful up to the first dock we came across and called Jerry. Of course he blamed it on us. Jerry's m.o. is to promise the world while trying to be your best friend. If the customer finds a flaw in his service or product he automatically blames someone else. Jerry the poor victim. Everyone has met a person in their life like this and I hope you all stay clear of this scam he calls a business. He literally ruined one of our vacation days by providing terrible service, a defective product without even an apology or a hint of remorse.

Jerry is quite the character. He's a super nice guy that truly means well, and certainly cared about our business. My wife & rented a paddleboard for the week, and also took a pontoon boat our for the day to go over to Dog Island. The paddleboard was in overall decent condition for a rental, so no complaints there. We met with Jerry on the morning of taking the pontoon over to Dog Island at the shop to go over some things & how to follow the channel markers. My issues with this whole operation began when we went to get on the boat. He assured us we were taking out his "nicest boat". A 2013 Bentley. ALL of his boats are run down. BAD. He literally had to move parts left from another boat for us to board ours. The seats were destroyed. The deck had soft spots. The pontoons are dented. The gates were either broken or missing. The steering wheel was held on with 3 metal screws. The trim on the motor didn't work. However, he did show me how to hold the connectors on the battery just right to get it to work. The gas wasn't full. He assured us we wouldn't need gas, but had me go get some anyway. I'm not sure how much was in it, but we ended up getting $57 worth of fuel! Anyway, once we were off, our trip was fine. We went and checked out Dog Island and had a good time. We were able to push the boat right into shore to load/unload and left it anchored out a ways. I didn't see any ladder on the boat at all. So if you wanted to swim elsewhere, be careful. We saw tons of dolphins, and were able to get ahead of them and let them swim right past the boat multiple times. That was especially cool. I will say, the wind was blowing 15-20 out of the west, which made navigating a pontoon boat back due north to the dock a little sketchy at times. All in all, it was a pretty good experience. Forgotten Coast is the only place in the Carrabelle area to rent kayaks, paddleboards or boats. So, if you're not wanting to drive out to St George for your rental needs, you'll be calling Jerry. I feel like Jerry knows this, and doesn't feel the need to keep up his boats. Personally, I didn't mind the aesthetics to an extent. But had we been on one of the other boats, I would've been a little pissed. Bottom line, I would rent from Forgotten Coast again. But they've got to put some $$ & TLC into those boats.

From the moment I walked in the shop, I was impressed. Ann Marie was the first to greet our group, and she was so friendly and helpful. She and her husband Ed are clearly passionate about providing exemplary service. Their selection of merchandise is great, and they had an excellent sale on wetsuits that I couldn't resist. There are beautiful kitties in the shop, and the owners work tirelessly to save feral cats and to get them fixed and vaccinated to help reduce the population of unwanted cats in this rural county. I truly admire their compassionate hearts! I am also a SCUBA diving instructor, and I'm always looking for great shops like Daly's. The owners and crew went above and beyond to make sure our experience was stellar. Daly's is also very safe...we waited for a storm to clear before doing the afternoon dives. Setting up gear is a bit different here...you set up in the back parking lot before loading on the boat, then you walk across the street to meet the boat. Though everyone there was excellent, we mainly interacted with Gabbi and Michelle who we absolutely loved! Michelle is a great boat captain and put us right on the Vamar. Due to our large group, they contracted with another boat captain named Mike who was very experienced and kind. I had left a sea urchin shell on his boat, and he took the time to come back to the shop to return it to me. Also, I get cold easily, and between dives, Ann Marie brought us awesome boat coats we borrowed to keep warm! Customer service could not have been better. I had not been to Port Saint Joe in several years, and I was blown away at what a hip, trendy town it has become. There are many wonderful restaurants and attractions (including the lighthouse) within walking distance of the dive shop. Our group took full advantage of the prime location and dined, shopped, and did some sightseeing after our excellent experience with Daly's Dock and Dive Center. I highly recommend this shop and will definitely return!
