Trip 2: Rode (closed) trail Pt Royal to Beach Pk unaware of this map. Recommend: Port Royal Park to Baywinds Park.

A fine, flat, clean trail, but confusing due to detours or poor signage. (Foster City) Tedious alert: I started at Port Royal Park in Foster City and went 3 miles to the Levee Pedway, which did not allow bikes contrary to Yelp reviews. Followed detours up Mariners Island, eventually hooking up with the Bay Trail at the Golf Center on 3rd Avenue. There, the Bay Trail was blocked due to construction, with no access to the 3rd Avenue Upper Launch where we saw windsurfers. Instead, we rode to Seal Point Park and beyond. And though Maps shows the trail reaching SFO, we were blocked off well before the marina. It's like finding out Wally World is closed with no moose to punch. (SF): Rode from Crissy Field across the wind-wobbly narrow two-way path across the Golden Gate Bridge (full of angry cyclists) to Sausalito, and missed a few unmarked turns despite studying trail maps. On the way back, a missed turn put us on the actual freeway. I think maybe half the people who jump off the bridge had followed the online trail maps.

My husband and I love walking our pup through the trail! It's very scenic and the pathway is very wide. We love starting at Bayside Park, to play fetch, and walking our way down to Kincaid area or vice versa! The view is quite amazing!! There are also various built in exercise machines around the loop, super cute and fun!

Love this trail. I come here every time I'm eating at New England Lobster. I park and walk by myself if I arrive early or with a friend for a good 15-20 mins before eating to work up my appetite. The trail is right by the waters. So bring a jacket. Even if it's a nice sunny 75 degree day. Due to the open waters and open area, it gets extremely windy. It's close to SFO, it's a nice view to watch airplanes take off and enjoy a nice coffee there too. When walking on the trials, you'll some times see a bench or 2, so you can sit and rest. I love meeting new people on the walk, esp when they have a really cute puppy!!

One of my many places to walk and unwind. Parking is sometimes non existent but you can find more just across the street. It's all flatland along Airport Blvd. no inclines which I like when I'm doing my mild walks. You'll see an occasional plane take off, murky waters, and a dog park. Tbh I'll come just to park and look at the water...don't come here if you can't clean up after yourself or your fur baby, please.

Lovely straight path for a stroll or biking. Some like to fish here on the flat rocks off the dock as well. Saw a couple of ducks swimming by or just chillin' like in the picture. Also saw a family of racoons running by across the water!

Several bikes on this piece of the trail so you had to be aware a bike wouldn't zoom by you and run you off the trail.

The family and I ventured out on this long trail seeking an area that wasn't congested with people. We ended up on the side going into Foster City which was spacious. The trail is very long so you choose how long to walk, bike, roller skate, etc. The air was fresh, the sky clear, and the airplanes crossing above us. People were fishing on a certain part of the trail which was an interesting sight. The trail was very enjoyable except for the people who didn't respect the sections where it was only for pedestrians. The trail has signs that all pedestrians should be wearing a facial covering and keep a 6 foot distance. About 80% of people on this trail we're wearing facial coverings. Most of the parking lots are closed to access the trails. All of the bathrooms are closed so make sure to go before you come to this trail. Overall great trail. Come early to minimize groups of people around you as you walk. Great exercise on a paved flat surface!

We rented some bikes and took a ride to the Golden Gate. We ventured along the water, and rode up a hill and saw lots of wild life and beautiful architecture and houses and parks. Plenty of space for people to go opposite directions and not run into each other, well kept, no trash and plenty of stop areas. It was a great ride and so nice to go on again.

Spent a beautiful Saturday afternoon biking here. I've always loved this trail, but haven't been here in about 15 years. The first thing I noticed were business buildings that weren't here before, and in parts of the area that was completely vacant land. I liked it better before, completely undeveloped, but that's life everywhere in the Bay Area. Silicon Valley was once filled with fruit orchards, believe it or not! Nonetheless, still a beautiful long trail, where you can freely bike for miles, without cars, and without being bombarded on the trail with numerous walkers and young children. A great place to spend a nice day, and certainly a great escape from the City. This is the suburbs, folks. The Foster City portion of the trail is on landfill though, and in certain spots you can really smell that landfill!

Full house - packed windsurfers out in the bay today (6/29/18). I really need to take lessons.

The SF Bay trail never stops to amaze me. It's been almost two years since I wrote my first review, and this update is not about the trail, but rather, the awesome people and life that surrounds the trail as I cycle through. NOTE: see my previous review if you would like detailed info with the trail. I started cycling a few years ago because my knees can no longer take the concrete pavement (the cycle of getting old.... hahaha) Yes, I used to jog for years until my doctor said, "Have you thought about cycling?" Lo-and-behold, I bought a used bike from the San Francisco Bike Rescue (Trek), and the rest was history. I began cycling. Not just cycling, but cycling with my dogs. It was also during that time, I discovered the San Francisco Bay Trail. A million thank you to our Yelp community for posting their awesome pics and sharing their personal experiences. So for this review, I want to share my personal experiences seeing all the wonderful people taking advantage of the trail. From running, jogging, cycling, walking, fishing, windsurfing, plane watching and lots, lots more.... from young to old, I am overjoyed, humbled and truly grateful during my cycling journey to see this awesome beauty. I get teary when I see an elderly couple holding hands, or a single retired gentleman, walking alone with his cane. I feel blessed and grateful to know that they are all mobile, able to walk, and enjoying the outdoor trails. PS - I have since upgraded to an electric bike, due to the fact that towing my 100 lbs+ dog along with his trailer, well..... let's just say was not good for my back! Haha :p Cheers!

July 17,2020. Open with few parking available. No restroom available open. Quiet, well maintained. You can watch some of the major airplane carriers land. Fishing available at no cost. Nice small trail walk for the family.

Nice trail that hugs the Bay and gives good views of the City, Bay Bridge and San Mateo bridge. Essentially flat and popular amongst bikers and runners. You do get a bit of incline at Seal Point Park. You can start anywhere along the trail. Good for families and individuals with mobility issues. Not ideal for people looking for a strenuous hike.

Rip rap along the water, with 7 ft stands of anise standing silent vigil along the trail.

While I've spent my fair share of time exploring the paved and semi-paved river trails and beach trails of Southern California, I have only begun to explore the SF Bay Trail. With a four day stay in Burlingame for business, I wandered out onto the trail each day, taking it a little farther on each subsequent excursion. Heading north from roughly Anza Dr., I enjoyed watching the tide ebb in this shallow part of the greater bay complex, watching stands of marsh grasses and the various waterfowl that utilize them grow more distinct on the mud flats as the waters receded. I was joined in the paved path by numerous walkers, joggers, stroller-pushers, and a few cyclists, each enjoying nice weather and the incoming traffic at the airport. On a different day, I walked south to Coyote Point, enjoying the footbridge near Anza Lagoon, the dilapidated concrete rip rap along the shoreline, the bobber fishermen on Woolley pier plying the waters for smelt and small sharks, the walk through tall stands of wild anise and other native plants, brought to verdant life by recent rains, and dozens of bird sightings. The struggle between nature and mankind's unavoidable footprint on this part of the world was ever-present, but somehow, it seems each has softened its assault on the other here, agreeing to disagree and tolerating the presence of the other in a strange balance of wild and domesticated. Egrets seemed to enjoy the defunct breakwater markers, songbirds nested in old outbuilding eaves, and a school of herring sparkled in the water near a discarded and submerged shopping cart, seeming to enjoy the relative safety of the underwater structure it provided. Be wary of broken glass and uneven surfaces as you meander to the sounds of the water, the wind, and the occasional airbus pushing on the throttle at distant SFO. It's not the Bay the Great Teenager in the Sky I tended, but it bears its own ethereal beauty, hidden in plain sight for all who have the perspective to enjoy it.

Went out for an easy Bike ride and it was definitely work the drive down. (Foster city portion) Started ay the kite surfing area next to the Poplar Golf Course. - Mostly flat and paved the entire way. - Family Friendly. - Fair amount of cyclist, joggers and dog walkers but not too packed to where it becomes a dodging game. - Beautiful views the entire way.
