Yelp Review 2026 #193: It's been a while my last visit to San Gines in Madrid - the oldest churreria in the world. When I found out they have a location in Miami, of course, I had to go! Located in Miami Beach on Collins and Lincoln, it's a small cafe. I was surprised to see sandwiches displayed at their window because San Gines in Madrid only made churros con chocolate and drinks. They have sandwiches, wraps, tortilla española, Croquetas, filled churros, breakfast food, and matcha! They don't have those in Madrid. CHURROS CON CHOCOLATE: I didn't let myself get distracted by all these menu items. I came here for churros con chocolate and that's what I got. They fry the churros to order so they're piping hot when I got them. They only give you a tiny cup of chocolate to the churros in. In Madrid, you get a tea cup of chocolate! But I asked for another serving of chocolate - they gave it to me for free. The chocolate is thinner at this location. But did it satisfy my Spanish churro craving? I had ordered a hot drink and it came cold and got a lack luster apology. My family had ordered some croissants which were not warmed up at all and it took over 10 mins to serve non warmed up croissants. Extremely expensive given the quality of service with a "mandatory" tip. Save your money and effort. read more

While I Miami Beach for the annual cruise trade show called Seatrade I needed to grab something QUICK before the walk to the convention center for the marathon of the meetings I had. This bakery is across the street from the Kimpton where I was staying and so it looked like a good option. I entered to no one in line and five employees causally working. When standing at the counter none of the employees acknowledged me or came over until after three or four minutes and another group of a half dozen customers. I finally got a lackluster greeting and ordered a butter croissant and bottle of water. This cost over $13 that includes the MANDITORY 20% tip included in all restaurants. This is a huge issue in Miami Beach that a number of people voiced disappointment with this year's Seatrade. The service has gone into the toilet because the staff get tipped automatically at 20%, so they seem to care less to help. I never tip this much for counter service and would not have given any for this lack of service. So many delicious pastries on display, it's hard to choose. But the big vat of hot oil for fresh churros is what caught my attention. They are the specialty here and totally worth trying! Churros w/ SG Chocolate & Dulce de Leche: What a treat! Thin churros fried fresh to order. They are the legit Spanish variety, not the thick cinnamon sugar Mexican derivative. Loved how airy and crispy they were. The thick chocolate sauce was perfect for dipping, clinging nicely to the churro and adding a rich coating. I can only speak for this churros since the two times I've been here that's all I've ordered. Definitely on higher end odlf price spectrum. But it is very good. I was much more impressed with the dipping cholocate this time than a year ago. Wish they had drinking chocolate. The food tKe longer than you think to be served but that's because they are making it (at least the churros) after you order. So you always have them fresh. Olé! I brought my family (my aunt's 90th B-Day) to recreate the taste of Spanish churros. We arrived by mid-afternoon. We ordered a mixed sample of small bites. We wanted the paella, but they ran out. Spanish bocata, ham croquettes and tortillas. All were delicious: the bocata with Serrano ham & Manchego cheese. Croquettes were bite-sized delights with crunchy, creamy insides. The tortilla is made to order with potatoes and onions. Drinks :Water & Estrella beer f To cap the lunch, churros & hot chocolate. One orders and pays at the counter. Food is delivered to the table. Service was prompt and friendly. The bill has a 15% service charge included. We enjoyed the food very much, the food and place. We stopped by this cafe for the first time after reading good reviews, and I must say we really enjoyed our meal here! The staff were attentive, friendly, and the two cooks were working tirelessly to make great food. The environment was bustling and lively! Whenever we get a cold snap in Miami, the only thing I want for breakfast is churros y chocolate, so San Ginés is where I go to get my fix. They need to open a location somewhere on the mainland because the trek out to the Beach is really a pain point, but it is quicker than hopping a flight to Madrid! The churros y chocolate are delightful. The churros are made to order so they are served warm and crisp, and the chocolate is rich, thick, slightly bitter decadence. Even better is the dulce de leche dip -- but only if it's warm/melted. Some days they will melt it and it's literally the best sauce in the world, and some days it seems they can't be bothered so it's a goopy paste which still tastes great but that texture is not ideal for dipping churros. Service is just okay...South Beach has notoriously abysmal service in most places anyway, so 'just okay' rates rather well in this area. It's conveniently located near Lincoln Road so you can walk around afterward or just sit and people-watch. There is seating outside and inside, and there are some high-top tables inside as well. read more

We ordered churros, hot chocolate and flan. The churros were excellent! Crispy, hot, and nicely coated in sugar while the inside was soft and fluffy. The hot chocolate was perfect. Wow! Its been years since i was last in Spain and this spot had me in a chokehold for lunch. All the specialties from tortillas, pastries, jamon serrano, and cafecitos, are available. The displays are just as mouthwatering as the dish you are served. Staff are super friendly and welcoming. Bathrooms are clean and have a code. There are two outdoor tables. Inside is cool with A/c to beat the miami heat but you can still catch views out the massive glass store front. I only wish my stomach was bigger to have more tasty delights. San Ginés has been open in Madrid for 125+ years. I tried the hot chocolate and churros, which are their staple items. You have a choice of dipping your churro in chocolate or dulce de leche. In my opinion, the chocolate is on the bitter side, so I used all the dulce de leche, instead. The churros are more thin than I'm used to, which just makes the crispier. They were tasty, but my personal preference are thick churros. read more

I was in the area and wanted to try a different cafe than Rosetta and others around that I like so I gave this a chance. It was horrrible. Service is superrrr slow and they got my order wrong. Its self serve...order on the counter...and tell me why its automatic gratuity, resort fee, etc...so many fees and the food is already sooo expensive since its miami beach so I understand to an extent. On top of bad service and how expensive it is....I ordered beef empanadas which were one of the cheaper items btw...and it took a while...when I got it it was cold...and getting their attention is non existent. Then I tried the chocolate croissant hoping it would be decent since this place claims to be a chocolatier? It was soooo dry and not fresh at all...barely even warmed despite my request. I know miami beach is expensive...and sometimes ok fine at least this was enjoyable but no everything was terrible- Poor food quality, poor service, expensive. 0 Star | A heartbreaking disappointment I've always loved San Gines in Madrid -- their churros with chocolate are iconic. So when I saw one had opened in Miami Beach, I couldn't wait to visit. Sadly, it was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. When we arrived early in the morning, the floors were soiled with food and hair, and the tables were filthy and greasy. The restroom smelled like sewage and had food residue in the sink -- absolutely unacceptable hygiene. I decided to cancel my order before eating anything. The waitress (who said her name was Juliana and claimed to be the manager) became loud and aggressive, blocked my exit, and said she'd call the police if I didn't pay for food I never received. Even after I said I'd pay just to avoid a scene, she kept arguing. Eventually, the police came and confirmed no crime had been committed -- but it was humiliating and stressful. The customer service was shockingly rude, and the place was filthy. I truly love San Gines in Madrid, but this Miami Beach location needs an urgent health inspection. Not bad at all. I was curious since I had been to San Gines in Spain before, and I thought it was okay (maybe I'm biased toward Mexican churros), so was wondering how it would be here in Miami Beach. We ordered the six regular churros with dulce de leche on the side and hot chocolate, and I was actually pretty impressed at how crispy these were on the outside and tender on the inside (might I say ... better than I had in Spain, which were a bit on the harder side). These paired well with the thick hot chocolate (made for dipping by the way, not drinking!). The dulce de leche was also pretty good too. Service was friendly, though the wait was a bit longer. Perhaps because these are made fresh. In terms of the place itself, there was tonsss of seating, and some wifi, albeit not that strong, so I'm not sure it would be a great place to study. But definitely good for gathering up a group of friends. I've had better churros elsewhere, but overall this was good! I wouldn't make a whole trip out of just going here, but I'd stop by again if I were to be in the area. read more

Established in Madrid in 1894, they serve the freshest churros and a chocolate dip that's just to die for. As soon as you walk in, you'll be enticed by some delicious croissants, cookies, sandwiches, and other pastries. But the real star of the show is their made-to-order churros. You can choose 4 or 6 pieces and different sauces and toppings. I'd stick to the original with their famous San Gines melted chocolate dip. It's so savory and not too sweet. Perfect for a rainy day or cold weather. Also, their sandwiches are good. You can't go wrong with the Cubano and Smash Burger. And don't skip on the frozen coffees. Definitely try the Caramel or Mocha and go for the whipped cream :) I'm a fan of this place. I just wish it was closer to my home because I'd probably be there everyday. LOL :) read more

We ordered a turkey ham avocado sandwich and a burrata pistachio salad. While ordered the cashier kept stopping to use her phone and then speak to her co-workers. It was so awkward. She'd eventually come back to us but it felt like she had zero interest in helping us. While waiting for our food there were two staff members making the food and there was absolutely zero pep in their step despite the long line of people waiting. I watched the female that was preparing the food take food and put it in her mouth with her gloves on and continue working with those same gloves. Then she'd use that same gloved hand to wipe her nose/eyes. So disgusting! When our food was ready they literally placed the boxes on the counter on top of a bag and pushed it forward. No communication, glance or gesture towards us. We waited a few minutes as we thought it was ours but we weren't sure. Eventually we stepped forward to ask if it was our number and the girl just nodded her head and turned around!!! So we didn't get the pita chips the menu stated we should and had to bag our own food. Incredible experience! I went to this place last month in Madrid. Their menu is different, they ONLY have churros. Here in Miami, the menu is past. From pastries to sandwiches, you are guaranteed to find something you like. The churros were made fresh in front of you. They were lightly dusted with cinnamon sugar. You are given warm chocolate and dulce de Leche sauce to dunk in! The croquetta we tried was prosciutto and Swiss! Yummy but cheese flavor was overpowering. The Spanish tortilla was outstanding!! Egg, potato, and cheese with almost an aioli to dip in! I really want to return for their croissants! Their iced coffee is also pretty good if you need a bit of caffeine! read more

We went there to have lunch, one of the plate i ordered was a "tortilla española" for my daughter, after the rest of our food came out the lady informed us that it was not available, I asked for a refund for the plate and was told that since today is Sunday, then i had to wait until it could be done on a business day. After that we ordered the churros and my wife wanted a hot chocolate , we waited over 30 minutes for churros, and even then the hot chocolate never arrived.... From the first complaint y already knew that it was pointless to argue anymore with them. I've been to the original San Gines in Madrid so I was excited to visit the Miami location! Cause who doesn't love churros. As you enter, you are invited by their beautiful display of pastries. It made me want to get one of each. But I came for the churros!! I also got a pistachio croissant because they're my absolute fav! The pistachio cream inside was very creamy & rich with the right amount of sweetness. The churros were delicious as well! My bf got a breakfast sandwich that was huge! My experience at this store was disappointing. While the store itself is attractive and the food presentation is appealing, the service fell short. There were only two employees working, one cashier who seemed very distracted, and another preparing my sandwich who left in the middle of making the order. As a result, my empanadas were left sitting in the box after frying until another staff member finally returned. On top of that, key ingredients like cherry tomatoes, arugula, and part of the prosciutto were missing from my sandwich. I couldn't get my juice, because they didn't have mango... Overall, the lack of attention and consistency in service overshadowed the quality of the food...and they charge you for mandated gratuity. read more

Cute little bakery on Collins! Their menu items are truly authentic and everyone was really nice. If you're looking for more of a fulfilling meal on this street then San Gines is a great place to dine. We ordered the avocado toast and it was the perfect size. There was plenty of avocado on both slices of toast and the egg was still runny. So good! We also ordered their guava and cheese pastry and ugh! Such a delicious classic. They auto added gratuity for a counter spot. Service was friendly, however I can't say it commanded an auto gratuity. Rishi tea - high quality, but they did innocently forget to add the bag (luckily I noticed it before leaving). Churros (thick) were flavorful well made as the hot chocolate. It felt a little pricey for what you got. Clean bathroom. However one of the main mats was not well gripped in the middle of the store; which felt like a bit of a safety hazard.
