If you are ever in Miami, you should try this place. We walked from our hotel to get some lunch here. It's a cute and clean. The food was fine but the service was acting like it was their first day. I saw two parties walk out while I was standing in line at a nearly empty restaurant. Actually, there was no line I was just standing and waiting for somebody to acknowledge me and take an order for about seven minutes. I finally had to ask and someone said oh no problem and went to a second register that wasn't being tied up and took my order. Received my breakfast, halfway through I got my coffee. I came for the Yelp Elite event! The churros were decent and I enjoyed the chocolate. I also got a Spanish tortilla and it was okay. I'd love to try their coffee sometime if I return. The line was very long and slow, and it took a long time to get food, but the service was nice and attentive. I liked the location as it is right in between the start of the Lincoln Rd mall and the south beach entrance by the Ritz Carlton. However... the decor was just beautiful. I was in awe. This is a good place for a treat. They have the world-famous churros and also pastries and sandwiches. The location is on the "other" side of Collins, but it is beautiful and clean, and the service is very good. I just ordered the churros (with cinnamon sugar and chocolate sauce). They were made to order, but that only took about 5 minutes. I brought them back to my hotel, and my kids and husband devoured them. They were as good as I remember from the original location in Madrid. Prices aren't cheap ($12 for 8, and they automatically put on a service fee), and the prices for the other items aren't listed, but from what I could see from their website, the sandwiches and pastries are quite pricy. I can only review this based on what I went there for which was the churros and croquettes and all I have to say is that if everything else they serve is half as good as those churros and croquettes, this joint is gonna be very popular real quick. I said, and made my way in because if there is one thing I love, is a well made churro, especially if its got that good chocolate for dipping. I did a little research and it turns out San Gines originates in Spain and this little store on Collins is their only other location outside of Spain. We ordered avocado toast, a Caprese sandwich, a steak sandwich and of course churros! The line was out the door but moved quickly some how those 4 items ran me $80, which I will chalk up to this being the beach, I knew it would be a little ridiculous. The steak sandwich had a great flavor but the cut of steak they use is not tender enough for a sandwich as every bit had you pulled the remaining steak out of the bread. It also had inedible chunks of fat. The fries were soggy and had no salt, and just tasted like oil. The avocado toast also had good flavor but the eggs are so overcooked that the yolks have turned green. Not even my 10 year old would eat them. The caprese sandwich was so soggy that it had to be returned. Could not even pick it up without our fingers breaking right through it. They brought out a second that was on a different thick bun, and somehow still slightly soggy. Only half was eaten. I will still give this a 2 star reviews based on the churros. They really should just make this a churro/bakery style place and not try to make food if they are going to do it like this. San Gines was so good! It's a cute Spanish cafe adorned with hunter green, white, and gold, and walls covered with black & white photos of famous people that've visited their famous Spain location.
