She was quite happy about finally seeing the museum! Located on a school campus, the museum sits back a ways from the parking lot across a courtyard from the school building. Parking and walkways are shared between visitors and students alike. The museum is bright and airy, having a nice flow from room to room, through timeline to timeline. The displays are beautifully constructed with thorough yet engaging text to explain each finding or display. The exhibit rooms are large enough to give that gasp that comes with being in the presence of creatures of such size, but cozy enough to linger and read without being overwhelmed. There are hands-on activities for youths and those young at heart, a children's play and explore area, and a theater/presentation area. We really enjoyed the presentation that brought the area to "life" through a realistic, animated depiction. We sat on molded rocks, which was fun. When students came, they sat on the floor. It was cool and quiet. The bathrooms were clean and easily accessible. There's a small gift shop with some eye catching toys, jewelry, snacks, etc.

It was well-appointed, however, the price was outrageous, $50 per adult and $25 per child. My husband and I don't eat enough food to warrant the cost. It has a great atmosphere and the wait staff were very attentive. They are only open for dinner on Saturday and buffet brunch on Sunday. They close by 2 pm. We will not return.

Parking: Limited free parking on the street in front of the museum and along the downtown area. There's also a free lot to the side of the building. The venue: The "museum" is at the back of La Boutique Consignment & Bridal store. It's a gorgeous collection of antique and vintage wedding dresses. The dresses are stunning. You can look but can't touch. But aren't most museums like that. :) There are about 22 complete gowns. The detailing is incredible. I can not even imagine how much time it took to get into one of those dresses. What will the corsets and busing, etc. Just crazy. Eve, the owner, is lovely and incredibly knowledgeable about the time period and each of the dresses. The one thing that struck me the most was that there wasn't a single dress in white. The majority of the dresses were ivory colored. There was even a black, green, and tartan/plaid wedding dress. Eve said it was because the gowns were made of silk. It wasn't until the Queen had her wedding lace made from white that white became used to make wedding gowns. You could easily spend an hour or more admiring the gowns and learning from Eve. If you're in the area, it's worth the trip. Plus it's free. :)

She is very passionate and can spend her whole day talking about Victorian wedding dresses and their history! She is great!!! She even has special events and history classes about them. The museum is free, but donations are appreciated. There is a vintage boutique within the place and all the proceeds from the sales of outfits go to maintaining the museum. I found a beautiful lace dress I knew I had to buy right then and there! Great place!!! Recommended for visits or for shopping!

Beautiful views of the lake & new developing parts of Winchester. Interesting to see how this whole valley will look in 20 years. My family and I attended the opening performance of the historic play, Ramona yesterday afternoon…read more They bragged a great deal about a new director they have employed for this season, but we believe he didn't do the show or the tradition any favors. Rather than the historically accurate and moving drama of the past, the new director seems to have changed the act into one heavily permeated with frivolity and foolishness. There was a great deal of what he called native dancing that was nothing more than many kids simply kicking their feet in the air. And the girl they have playing Ramona this season does not sing well yet they had her struggling to carry a tune more than once. The show was lightly attended, and I doubt that it will do much better for the few performances remaining.

I can't speak to any of the other resources as I haven't used them. However, the way the staff treat the people in the library leaves a lot to be desired, hence my 2-star review. Although the publicly posted hours state they close at 6 pm, beginning at 5:30 pm, there is an aggressive push to get everyone out of the library, with constant announcements over the loudspeaker, security guard patrolling the study areas, and the librarians also coming around and reminding everyone to leave by 5:45 pm. At 5:35 pm, I was told that if I didn't leave by 5:45 pm I would be locked in the library with my child overnight. I stated the library closes at 6 pm, and we will be gone well before that time. At 5:55 pm, as we were leaving, the security guard and the librarian came over to tell us we were there past closing. They definitely scared my child into thinking that would happen. Woof. The overbearing staff is a bit much. But if anyone is down for a sleepover in the library, it's me!!
