Such a great brewery! They have tons of seating by and an inviting ambience. We got the cheese curds with marinara sauce and the chicken banh mi pizza. For our beer, we got the San Juan pilsner and the black boar porter. The beer was great and they have a ton of options here. I especially loved the chicken banh mi pizza. I had never seen such a combo as toppings on a pizza, but it strangely worked. One of the most innovative pizzas I have ever had for sure! Overall, a fun brewery to visit during your trip to Friday harbor.

Great brewery experience with nice bartenders. Crowded so we sat at the bar. The beer was excellent. The NA beer was not as is often the case but Ive had many very worthy NA beers lately. Hopefully they step it up there. Shared the pub pretzels which were great. Shared a larger fish and chips meal which was also quite good. Love the location and vibe.

My fiancé and I visited San Juan Island Brewing for dinner on our nights in Friday Harbor. Service was friendly and our food came pretty quickly. We did go to dinner before the rush though. We shared the Pig War Pizza and the Fish and Chips. The pizza was good but a little too salty for me. I wasn't a huge fan of the crust but others would be since it is a sourdough crust. The breading on the fish and chips was kind of bland. The fries were standard. I did not eat the coleslaw. Overall, it was a good spot for dinner.

San Juan Island Brewing was quite solid given the lack of food options open past 7 on the island. After waiting about 20 minutes to get seated, we ordered pizza and a couple of dishes to share. Pig war pizza: I thought this was good but my friends said it was too salty. Maybe it was a tad salty but I think that's how all pork pizza is going to taste normally. 4.5/5 Fried chicken sandwich: I didn't really like this as much, I liked the sauce and it had a nice kick to it but the chicken was a tad dry and flavorless. 3.5/5 Philly cheesesteak: I enjoyed this, the steak and the melted cheese mixed together nicely with the bread to create a delicious experience. It is a bit expensive for a Philly cheesesteak though for its size and it's not anything super special. 4/5 Fries were also pretty good but they didn't come out hot. The food took a bit of time to come out but that is somewhat understandable since they were quite busy on a weekend night. I enjoyed the ambience, it definitely felt like a brewery and gave pub vibes but with solid food. 4.1/5

Sunday evening, most places were closed. We were seated promptly. The space is very nice. High ceilings, barn/saloon ambiance is cool. We ordered pizzas and Philly cheese steak sandwich. Pizzas were really delicious but the dough is really thin and wouldn't hold up to eat by hand, any of the pizzas. So we used fork and knife.

Spent a Thursday evening on the island and had dinner at the brewery. Nice location and the food was pretty good. The beers were okay too. Good place to take kids and they have a nice grassy area outside of the weather is nice.

Take into account that we went on the fourth of july... The place was packed inside and out as they hosted a beer garden and live music outside. It was a fun party vibe for all ages. We did wait a long time to get a table, but were finally seated and had fairly good service. Cider was good and food was good. We had the barn mi pizza and the farmer's market pizza along with mac and cheese bites and the poke

We stopped by San Juan Brewery while on the Friday Harbor Island. It was a Sunday, we were seated right away and were approached by a server promptly. We ordered our beers first then our food. Dogs were allowed outside on the patio, they even had a grass area right next to the tables for pet convenience. Children were present, so family friendly. Inside the noise level with typical brewery with tvs. They had beers fridges for to go beers. We enjoyed our beer, food, and our time.

Our waitress was super great, very friendly and gave us good recommendations on beers based on our preferences. I got their Yachter's Daughter and it was light and fresh. For food, we got their Dinner Island Proscuitto and it was loaded with prosciutto. I would have liked more fresh basil (maybe even fresh ones) on top. Their Cesar salad was well dressed and had loads of cheese. It was kind of busy, but they had plenty of seats and service was quick.

First meal on San Juan Island! I didn't order an entree, just two appetizers for lunch. I loved my calamari and hummus plate. The cabbage salad under the calamari was so refreshing. The calamari was crunchy and savory, and it was good both with and without the dipping sauce. The hummus plate was very light yet flavorful and actually filled me up well. The garlic on top was the highlight of the dish. My partner said his black bean burger was just mid, but the fries were good. The only thing I need to complain about is that it took us about 30 minutes to get our food, and I was borderline starving. The staff were friendly too.

The server was great and wrote separate checks for our large group. Great beer selection. Clam chowder has a smoked flavor. It also had carrots which added a sweet flavor. Not my favorite New England clam chowder ever. Caesar salad was okay. Enjoyed the San Juan Pilsner.

A decent spot for a bite, lots of ciders and beer - learned the hard way this is NOT the same as San Juan Seltzers which was disappointing (not their fault, obvi). Chose this restaurant since it was one of few American fare still open later in the day and close to the ferry terminal. Service was friendly, we were at a high top table covered by the bartender who had a nearly full bar top. We were forgotten about for a bit but nothing walking up to the bar to order for our table of 6 didnt solve. Food was as to be expected, chicken tenders were on the smaller side and slightly lackluster in flavor. We left with full bellies and empty plates, so I would definitely give other dishes a try. MASSIVE kudos though for them whipping up a CBJ burger when I realized I missed ordering as our food came out.

Our party of three visited for lunch at noon on a Thursday. Since we had a reservation, we were seated immediately at a lovely table right by the window. The atmosphere was great, and the staff were incredibly courteous and friendly throughout our meal. We initially thought about starting with some small plates, but we were so eager for seafood that we jumped straight into the entrees. We weren't disappointed: Bouillabaisse: This was our first time trying this dish, and it was the highlight for us. It was incredibly flavorful--exactly what we were craving. Spicy Prawn Mac and Cheese: It definitely lived up to its name! It wasn't "blow-your-head-off" hot, but it had a perfect, noticeable kick that really elevated the dish. Blackened Cod Tacos: These were fantastic. The cod was perfectly prepared and worked so well with the rest of the taco ingredients. We also enjoyed a couple of non-alcoholic drinks that hit the spot, though I'll admit that since I'm writing this a couple of weeks later, I forgot to snag photos or the specific names of the drinks! They also have a really nice patio area if you prefer dining outdoors. Whether you're a seafood lover or just looking for a great meal with a view, this place is a must-visit!

Better print some more up! Lovely table outside. Nice wine selection. The local oysters were delicious. Husband loved the crab tater tots. Too heavy with too much sauce for me but that's my preference. Then the problem. We waited for over an hour for our mains. No one popped by to say anything. People around us were getting served and leaving. I'm sure there was some sort of order mixup in the kitchen. Husband loved the bouillabaisse although it had a creamy sauce which is not typical. I ordered the halibut and it was a gorgeous quality piece that was substantial but...the worst thing...overcooked and dry. I wanted to cry because it would have been perfect. Our server even made a point of telling me they cook them to medium rare. I'm thinking this spent a bit of time under the heat lamps. They offered a free dessert for bday which was nice but by then we'd been sitting there over two hours and were just ready to leave. I can deal with the long wait...very crowded and looked a but short staffed. But when they ruined my halibut that made me sad. I would give them a 3 at best but husband liked everything and he was the birthday boy so..

Talk about hitting out of the park with the first stop! Whistle Buoy is located in a Market Square that's a beautiful open air area surrounded by shops, boutiques, restaurants, assorted businesses, and vast tracts of land with chairs and tables. Since it's surrounded by buildings on all four sides the wind would be challenged to ruffle your hair once inside. For this stop of the Ale Trail excursion we were each allowed one glass (not a taster...a full 12oz glass) of one brew. They have roughly a dozen taps that run the typical gamut of beer styles. I immediately gravitated toward the Shaft Coffee Stout. Not my usual go-to, (I'm usually more of an IPA / Pale Ale kinda guy) but something about "Dark. Coffee. Chocolate" grabbed my attention (Here's the part where Jim has an advantage. Jim's wife doesn't drink beer, so Jim gets her selection, too, so she (ok, I) chose the Froth Hazy Pale for hers (ok, for me).) I didn't expect the highlight of the excursion to be the very first beer I had, but the Shaft Coffee Stout was quite possibly the best beer I've ever had. It was smooth and rich and had such an amazing flavor. Honestly, it was more like dessert. I'm not saying my wife's beer (ok, my 2nd) wasn't awesome, it's just that the Shaft set the bar REALLY high. ( I'm just talkin' 'bout Shaft! ) Our group sat in the outdoor, covered beer garden, the weather was slightly overcast, and we were surrounded by like-minded beer lovers (except my wife, who donates to my cause.) As we sat the Market Square was busy with life as people walked their dogs, visited businesses, and a group of elementary school kids was escorted through the square. Sometimes it's nice to sit back and watch the world go by. The restrooms (gender neutral, thank you) are small...ok, tiny. There's barely enough room to change your mind. I do have to call attention to two things, though. First, it has the tiniest sink I've ever seen. Surely this thing had to be custom made. Second, they have a Code of Conduct posted on the wall, which I genuinely appreciated. Nothing outrageous, just a focus on respect and common decency. If I were able to get Shaft Coffee Stout at home I'd never leave home (actually I would just to get more Shaft Coffee Stout). It was only a brief visit to Whistle Buoy Brewing, but if I ever found myself living in Victoria, BC, there is no doubt this is where I'd hang out.
