Service was prompt and friendly and they had gf designations on their menu which made my life easy. I had the house salad and the apricots on top were delish. The husband of mine had a pizza which he said was the indulgence he was craving. Our friend had the curry soup of the day, fried cheese curds and a cider tasting. Everything was good. Solid experience. The most happening place in town! Busy on a Tuesday evening. Plenty of seating inside and out. Garage doors open so a very open air feel to it. No reservations necessary. Such a great brewery! They have tons of seating by and an inviting ambience. We got the cheese curds with marinara sauce and the chicken banh mi pizza. For our beer, we got the San Juan pilsner and the black boar porter. The beer was great and they have a ton of options here. I especially loved the chicken banh mi pizza. I had never seen such a combo as toppings on a pizza, but it strangely worked. One of the most innovative pizzas I have ever had for sure! The real disappointment was the clam choweder. It was pretty gross. It was thin and had an odd taste to it. There were hardly any clams. Their prices are pretty high for their portion sizes as well. We shared the Pig War Pizza and the Fish and Chips. The pizza was good but a little too salty for me. I wasn't a huge fan of the crust but others would be since it is a sourdough crust. San Juan Island Brewing was quite solid given the lack of food options open past 7 on the island. After waiting about 20 minutes to get seated, we ordered pizza and a couple of dishes to share. Pig war pizza: I thought this was good but my friends said it was too salty. Maybe it was a tad salty but I think that's how all pork pizza is going to taste normally. 4.5/5 Fried chicken sandwich: I didn't really like this as much, I liked the sauce and it had a nice kick to it but the chicken was a tad dry and flavorless. 3.5/5 Philly cheesesteak: I enjoyed this, the steak and the melted cheese mixed together nicely with the bread to create a delicious experience. It is a bit expensive for a Philly cheesesteak though for its size and it's not anything super special. 4/5 Fries were also pretty good but they didn't come out hot. The food took a bit of time to come out but that is somewhat understandable since they were quite busy on a weekend night. This is a really cool, spacious brewery setup over on San Juan Island. It has a great local pub energy, making it an easy place to want to gather, grab a drink, and hang out with a group. The food was a bit of a mixed bag. The pizza was definitely not good, honestly, pretty much everything about it fell short. On the plus side, the beet salad was good, and the chicken wings were tasty as well. The overall ambiance here is super fun and lively. However... the service left a lot to be desired because the kitchen was incredibly SLOW. We were dining with kids, and it took a massive 50 minutes just to get our children their food off the kids' menu. Not even our main meals, just the kids' items! Needless to say, by the time the food finally arrived, our kids were completely starving. Management, please make it a point to ensure that when parents order off the kids' menu, those items are prioritized and brought out much earlier so the little ones can eat... While the space itself is great for a drink, the massive kitchen delays make it tough for a family dinner. I'd say it's fine to check out for a beer and some wings, but if you have young kids with you, be prepared for a long wait. read more

First meal on San Juan Island! I didn't order an entree, just two appetizers for lunch. I loved my calamari and hummus plate. The cabbage salad under the calamari was so refreshing. The calamari was crunchy and savory, and it was good both with and without the dipping sauce. The hummus plate was very light yet flavorful and actually filled me up well. The garlic on top was the highlight of the dish. My partner said his black bean burger was just mid, but the fries were good. Chose this restaurant since it was one of few American fare still open later in the day and close to the ferry terminal. We were forgotten about for a bit but nothing walking up to the bar to order for our table of 6 didnt solve. Food was as to be expected, chicken tenders were on the smaller side and slightly lackluster in flavor. We left with full bellies and empty plates, so I would definitely give other dishes a try. First meal in the San Juan Islands and it was a great one! My family and I spent the afternoon exploring the island and were looking forward to kicking back, having a bite, and a drink. San Juan Island Brewing called to us as it's conveniently near town and dog-friendly. We arrived on a gorgeous Sunday evening. We sat outside due to having our pup and luckily there was no wait! There are several long communal tables, some with umbrellas and some not. We sat under an umbrella but it didn't cover all of the sun. Inside is very spacious with nice viewing areas and plenty of tables for all party sizes. The vibe all around was laid-back and pleasant. The service by our waitress was wonderful. She provided great recommendations and things came out swiftly. My family and I all ordered our dishes but we did share the Pub Pretzel. I had the Wild Salmon Sandwich as my main. The pretzel was phenomenal--so freaking soft, right salt ratio, and lovely mustard dip. My salmon sandwich was heavenly. I love salmon and in Washington, you just have to get it. The salmon was buttery and rich, the peppers provided a little kick, and the sandwich was very filling! My family enjoyed their meals and we all took our fair share to go. I highly recommend coming to San Juan Island Brewing for good food and a drink if you're visiting Friday Harbor. I wouldn't mind coming back! The restaurant is off A Street and easy to find as it's a big building, there's also a giant parking lot out front. read more

I was surprised that the prices here are actually fairly reasonable, since a lot of places on the islands end up with a pretty substantial "island surcharge". This is especially surprising given that it's within walking distance of the ferry terminal. The food and drinks are pretty normal brewery/pub fare. Well - we tried to go to SJIB again. We come to San Juan Island every year and obviously have amnesia because it's never worked out. I will say this - we will never try again. Horrible service from the bartender. We sat down and asked about the beer. I wanted something light but he swayed me away from it towards their "award winning" Pilsner. I took 2 sips of it and didn't like it. He never asked me what I thought BTW ... so I had to sort of call him over. Anyway - I politely told him that I didn't like the draft beer and asked if I could switch it out for what I originally wanted. He said "ok but I'm not giving it to you for free. You will have to pay for both". I will say - I'm in my 50s and this has NEVER happened. I was stunned. I finally got my wits about me, canceled our food order and asked for the bill for the beer. $9 for a draft beer that I didn't like. Unbelievable. read more

The hummus platter came with doughy, undercooked bread that was covered in flour and made a mess more than anything. The chicken tender app wasn't any better--low-quality chicken and barely any sauce to go with it. Bar service was lackluster, and to top it off, we overheard staff openly talking trash about each other behind the bar--not exactly the vibe you want while trying to enjoy a drink.
