We rented "My Island Home Retreat". As yelp says 2 stars means "Meh. I have experienced (WAY) better". We stayed here for 4 nights. The problems started right at the beginning. Here is the email that I sent San Juan Property Management in regards to the issues.... We are disappointed in our stay at this house, we will not be staying here again. The house is not well cared for, and there is a lot of deferred maintenance and safety issues. The price of the house did not justify the maintenance issues that this house has. Safety - *House was unlocked when we arrived - very unnerving in a place that is out of town and unfamiliar to us. *No cell phone service as such there should be a working landline for emergencies or to be able to contact the management company - there is not a working landline *All exterior doors should have deadbolts. - 2 year old was easily able to open all exterior doors * Huge hole in the wall in the basement (child size) that is covered by an easily moved plastic storage container Maintenance Issues / other issues- * Internet only works close to the wireless router, does not work upstairs or in the basement. Only 5GHz internet works, the 2.4GHz does not work * No DirecTV as discussed in rental documents - Roku box requires subscription * Very musty damp smell in the basement * No drapes/curtains in most bedrooms (especially on the ground floor!) landscapers were present during the stay. Further trying to get kids to sleep before the sun goes down (9:30pm) when it is super bright outside is impossible * Toilet Paper holder and towel holder in basement bathroom was broken * All leather couches in the room with the TV need repair... the leather chair has a very broken back, and the leather is all coming apart on the sofa. * All upholstery is coming off the dining room chairs, the larger chairs in the dining room have all broken springs and are very uncomfortable to sit on. * The hot tub cover is broken as such you can not slide it all the way off, making it a little dangerous for children going "under" the cover that is still on the tub *The upstairs laundry room/bathroom the dryer is not vented, and just vents in the room making it very very damp in that room when running the dryer. * This room is also missing the door jam on one side? * basement is missing baseboard in places * There are beds outside under the house... are these used in the house at times? makes me question the beds we are sleeping on * The twin bed in the left side of the room is very very broken and missing slots in it, my husband fell through the bed when putting my son to bed. * A lot of the interior doors are missing door handles, makes it very difficult to open (ie the french doors off the front door) * Ceiling lights missing covers (just exposed bulbs) * Carpet in master bedroom closet is coming unraveled * Bath towels are very worn and ragged * Lots of random holes that have been patched throughout the house but not painted There are also a lot of "personal" items in this house, which we have not experienced in prior vacation homes, and seems a little odd at times. The one saving grace was that the house did appear to be cleaned well! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Response from SJPM~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ All I can say is that we do what we can with the homes provided. The items you listed below as well as the rent price is controlled by the homeowners, but again will pass along your comments to them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In summary this house needs a TON of repairs and was not child friendly. SJPM response is very disappointing that they would "do what they can with the homes provided". they are posting deceiving photos of the actual state of the home you are renting.

We have worked with SJPM since 2015 and have seen, time after time when challenges arise, and they do... COVID-19 cancellations/changes/etc. Or the current Snowmageddon 2021 their property management team goes above and beyond for guests and owners alike. SJPM Team is extremely professional and hands-on; we cannot thank them enough for being our team leaders!

Talk about a Christmas NIGHTMARE...I recently stayed at the Yatch Haven property while visiting Friday's Harbor where I vacation yearly, sometimes multiple times within a year. The property is extremely poorly managed. I do not know if the owners are aware and can only speak to my personal experience with San Jaun Property Managment. I am a Home Owner and I have a strong background in real estate specializing in property management and customer service. Aside from numerous hidden fees ( not to mention a $200 cleaning fee for a poorly cleaned vacation rental) there were multiple issues with the cleanliness of the property and most significantly the managements lack of caring, supervision or response to these issues. As a Home Owner I would advise anyone looking for decent property management to steer clear of hiring San Juan Property Management. Especially Chris. While I did meet a kind elderly cleaning woman upon trying to locate the property the property was filthy upon check in. The dishes and glasses had stuck on food particles and had to be hand washed and sanitized prior to use. The two dish towels left out for my use were disgustingly stained and smelled. There was dried vegetable matter on the countertops that was green in color indicating that the countertops were not properly cleaned. The interior of the fridge was so dirty I kept my food in the paper bags Kings Market had provided me with my entire stay. There was leftover food from previous guests in the refrigerator as well. The jacuzzi was also filthy. Not just the water quality but the stench of mold and mildew permeated the spa experience due to neglect and as a spa owner I can attest to the fact that the tub is not maintained as it should be regardless of what "Chris" deems normal. Spa water should be clear and free of debris and the cover should be occasionally cleaned as to prevent the smell of mold and mildew and while jets can be strong and produce air bubbles there is no excuse for soapy suds that pour over the edge and any person who properly maintains a spa knows this. It's a shame the property management can't be bothered. I did call to advise only because I did not want to be blamed for putting any bubble bath type products in the spa as someone had clearly done so but these people just don't care. I only used the one bedroom upstairs facing the deck during my entire stay which contains the King sized bed. While the bed was made, upon entering the bed in the evening it was clear that the linens had not been recently and or properly washed. There was a very peculiar odor coming from the linens. Considering that the guests prior were charged a $200 cleaning fee as was I, this is completely unacceptable. Not surprisingly the bed frame, mattress and or linens are infested with Bed Bugs. Bed Bug bites as Chris mentioned are extremely easy to distinguish as they tend to have leave a very unique bite pattern that is undeniable. His response to this was to firstly ask if the bites were in a row type style followed by "thanks for letting me know". Unbelievable. He had zero regard and did not so much as apologize let alone offer any remedy or resolve despite photographs and proper documentation. My intention in calling was to firstly make them aware, secondly see to it that no guest suffered physically in this manner moving forward, thirdly a refund and lastly to recoup any medical costs. His question is highly telling...Sound familiar? Previous complaints? I have contacted VRBO, filed a complaint and I will attempt to contact the owner to make them aware since they may have no clue as to how poorly this place is managing their home. Interestingly enough they are trying to sell the property and this company was not given the listing. I will also be reaching out to other proper parties including but not limited to the States Bureau of Real Estate. To pay $1,000 for a 2 night stay ANY WHERE and suffer damages is beyond any monetary issue at this point and all based on principle after the way Chris behaved so inappropriately, unprofessionally and dismissive. Please for the health and safety of your family avoid this property as a rental and do not entrust them to manage your property, or anything for that matter including their own employees!

Three years ago, we signed the HOUND & HARE COTTAGE FALSE BAY on San Juan Island up for vacation rental management with SJPM, and since day one, we have sung SJPM praises. They have a very talented and professional team, even including professional photographer Wes Edholm for marketing properties. Their marketing is extremely effective, and their office team flexible and attentive when meeting our needs. They are available 24/7, 365 for both property owners and guests, and they strive for perfection. I do not know how they do it, but season after season, our working relationship improves. If you are looking for property management in the San Juan Islands, we highly recommend working with ERIN, AUBREY, CHRIS, LOGAN, and the rest of Team San Juan Property Management!

We stayed at one of their prosperities during the 4th of July weekend. Because it was a holiday weekend, the house was double the usual price. We were fine paying this, since it fit our guest count and had a hot tub. The listing was titled "gorgeous water front property with hot tub." These were our top priorities/how we filtered the search on air bnb. If the house did not have a hot tub, we wouldn't have booked it. The title sold us! However, at 2 pm on the 3rd, (check in day) we were told the hot tub was not working from the last guests. Audrey, who works for the property management company, was initially great and said a guy named Dwight was checking it out and would get back to us or provide an update or compensation. At 4 pm, which is also check in time, someone came and looked at the hot tub and said it should work and warm in a few hours. We got to the house at 8 pm and the hot tub was cold. We called the office and left message. On the 4th in the morning another person named Logan came to look at it. Later on in the day we called the non emergency line to document it still wasn't working by leaving a voicemail. We never heard back until Monday (the 6th/check out day) when I called again to notify the hot tub didn't work the whole weekend. Audrey said there would be compensation. Audrey called back and said there would be a $200 comp. We spent 4,000 dollars to stay from the 3rd-6th, again we were fine with this price because it slept ten people and had a hot tub. However, when we told we would only be comped $200 (5%) we asked to for a greater comp and Audrey said her manager would call us back. We were never called - I called again on the 9th and was sent to voicemail. I left a message. On Sunday (7/12) we got an email saying the comp was final at $200. On 7/13 I called and was sent to voicemail. Considering we wouldn't have booked without a hot tub, and were never called back/ received only 5% compensation, we are really disappointed with San Juan Property Management.

    Loved the wooded backyard!

Thank you to San Juan Property Management for a wonderful family weekend. The house we rented was perfect and we loved looking out every morning to the deer in the yard. The house was so clean and had everything we needed as well as a game room for the kids. The management company was friendly and so easy to deal with. They had great suggestions for places to see and eat on the island. Can't want to go back!

The pull out couch was made with yellow stained sheet. we had to go buy our own cover!

i am shocked that as a guest paying a high rate for a waterfront property, we found yellow stained mattress cover on the pull out couch and the dirtest pillows left for guest, we also found left behind dirty underwear in near site of the bedroom! i took photos and privatly messaged San Juan Property management. they offered to replace these items and we declined their services. at the end of my experience we rated the experience with a five star, and we privatley shared our feedback. in return san juan property management gave me poor feedback on me personally on my air bnb profile. Im not surprised to see their ratings in the 3 out of 5 stars.Poor customer service. Poor reaction to guests feedback and experience.

This is the real situation on this cottage. You are not adjacent to a day care. You are attached. Backyard is play yard of it

Our family of 3 stayed in the Studio Suite for 4 nights during the month of July…read more Pros: -Booking was easy online & the owner was easy to deal with. -The suite is advertised, clean with adequate kitchen supplies. I would have preferred a new bar of soap to a large bottle of body wash in the shower, but that may be personal preference. -Location, location, location. We walked everywhere in town except one day; there was a car rental place within walking distance & we were able to explore the rest of the island. There is no denying that the Courtyard Suites have a fantastic location! -The owner allowed us to store our luggage in the suite before check-in time as the Clipper arrived very early in the morning. She provided the same courtesy during the day we checked out. This was much appreciated. Cons: -I hardly slept well at all during our 4 night stay here. -There is a trash dumpster right outside the window by the bed. Three of the four mornings, a loud truck came & emptied the dumpster before 7 a.m. It's possible one of the trucks was a fuel truck as well, I was too tired to look out the window. There was no way to sleep through this racket. -We attempted to keep the windows open to allow a breeze at night since there is no AC. The suite has casement windows that swing out, with mini blinds for privacy. Whenever the breeze came through the windows, the blinds would bang against the window frames. Several nights my husband & I couldn't sleep from the blinds banging, & ended up having to be hot with no cross ventilation just to stop the noise. -By the time tax was added & $12/night for my son to sleep on the futon, it ended up being pricier than we expected at $255 per night. Overall I would recommend the Courtyard Suites, especially if you are a heavy sleeper!

My daughter, who lives in Olympia, Washington, encouraged us to visit the San Juan Islands (and take her with us, of course) this year. I looked at several possibilities and settled on the San Juan Waterhouse because of its location to the ocean, its view of Canada, the fact it had Internet (I thought I might need to work) and its online reviews. We were lucky that our son was also able to join us, so we felt we needed three bedrooms. The San Juan Waterhouse sits on the edge of the Haro Straight. Its water facing wall is nothing but windows, so nearly every location in the house (including the master bathroom) provides an easy view of the water. The house has three bedrooms. The master bedroom is situated so you can see Canada from the comfortable king size bed. The second bedroom is in a room with three walls of windows. This bed is a Queen. The third bedroom has two twin beds and has high windows overlooking the sod roof of the house. The main room of the house has comfortable furniture surrounding a beautiful stonework fireplace (gas) and padded window seats with many pillows for reading and gazing at the water. The kitchen. Oh my goodness, the kitchen! It has everything you could possibly need for cooking (including basic spices) and an amazing Viking stove. I'd never used one of these before and now covet one for my own house. Because my family was not going to be together for Thanksgiving, we had a Thanksgiving celebration two weeks early and cooking the meal was a breeze (and fun) in that kitchen. The kitchen also holds the house's main heat source -- a gas powered iron stove. It really heats up the place -- even the master bedroom which is down a long windowed hallway. The house has two bathrooms. One, as previously mentioned, has views of the water through the windowed French doors. (they have curtains, so don't worry about privacy). This bathroom has a claw-foot bathtub and a separate shower. The second, smaller, bathroom holds a second claw-foot bathtub (no shower). While the house itself is amazing, the best part is the location. The architect took great pains to fit it in with the surroundings and Frank Lloyd Wright slopped ceilings guide your eyes to the beautiful landscape out the windows. The house is situated on a small cove. My son and daughter ventured out during a late-night very low tide and found some interesting sea life in the tide pools. We had one beautiful sunny day and one day with strong winds and violent waves. We saw many gulls, three eagles and two small deer. I am already plotting our return to this beautiful house -- hopefully in the summer next time.
