I've been going to this office for about 5 years now. Dr. Nosti and hygienist Lei Garbin are both awesome. They truly care about their patients and that's what keeps me coming back. I've never felt like I was being upsold and Dr. Nosti has never recommended unnecessary treatment. He is kind and considerate. Lei is a gem. She is a very knowledgeable and thorough hygienist who has helped me greatly with maintaining my oral hygiene. I would easily recommend her to anyone looking for a hygienist they can trust. And a shout out to the front office and dental assistants, too! I appreciate how personable and helpful they are. If I could do 0 stars I would. We went in for a cleaning & they tried to tell my husband he needed 15,000 in dental work. I go to the dentist every 6 months and came here because it was closest & covered by insurance. I went in and they told me I needed a deep cleaning (which looks like they tell to every patient). I was shocked as no one has ever suggested that and they gave no explanation. While waiting on the doctor the front staff took a call and after they were cussing about a patient. Talking really bad about her loud enough for everyone to hear. One of the statements was the receptionist was going to tell her husband she is a b****. Super unprofessional. I ended up walking out and told them we will not be back. I went to a different dentist & my husband got a new quote and they were recommending significantly less things. I went in and got a normal cleaning with some extra work but they communicated nicely what they needed to do and why. I highly suggest finding another dentist. read more

THIS COMPANY IS NOT ACCREDITTED BY THE BBB. My mom and I didn't even realize we had both been to this dental office--turns out we were each planning to write a review. We were talking about bad dental experiences, and when I mentioned the name, she said, "That's the same place I was talking about!" I won't go into too much detail about her visit, but she waited well past her scheduled appointment time, only to have the dentist stroll in late--apparently straight from the gym. As for my own experience, I called ahead to ask about getting a gingivectomy and was told they had a periodontist on staff. They scheduled me an appointment, and when I arrived, I did the standard X-rays and intake. However, instead of seeing the periodontist I was told would be there, a general dentist came in. Apparently, the periodontist only works on certain days, and the dentist wanted to examine me first--something they never mentioned when I scheduled. During the exam, the dentist began calling out extremely high numbers when checking my gums--some as high as 7, which indicates possible gum disease. He immediately launched into a conversation about all the treatments I'd need to "prevent" the disease. I was shocked because I had just been to another dentist prior to this visit and hadn't been told anything of the sort. Then someone else came in to review the findings and gave me a treatment quote that totaled thousands of dollars. I wish I remembered the exact number, but I just looked at her and said, "Even if I wanted to do this, I don't have that kind of money lying around." Her reaction? She looked at me like I was some kind of bum for not immediately agreeing to the price--completely dismissive and condescending. I want to be clear: I came in for a periodontist consultation, not a full-blown upsell session. I understand that new patients often require an initial exam, but this felt like a scam. I've since seen two other reputable dentists while preparing for Invisalign and other cosmetic work, and neither said I was on the verge of gum disease. None of them called out numbers even close to what I was told at this place. In my opinion, this office is a money grab. They use scare tactics, inflate "diagnoses," and pressure patients into expensive treatments they likely don't need. If you question the cost or don't immediately say yes, they treat you like you're beneath them. This place is highly unethical - you'll see common experiences in all of the other 1 star reviews. Beware...Not a welcoming experience and they are looking to make money. Prepare to be there all day. 1. Customer service was not there by receptionist. She was rude since the minute I got there. 2. I had a general cleaning appointment at 9:30am (arrived on time) and I wasn't seen until 10:30am. All to find out that they did a "free" assessment and wanted to charge me $1500 for a deep cleaning. This place is a scam. My yearly check up and cleaning is 100% covered by my insurance but the two times that I have gone here they keep trying to bill me for things that I did not agree to. They said that a cleaning would be $140 but that is actually for a laser cleaning. They did not offer me the choice. They just presented it as the way that it is supposed to be done. If I didn't know to argue with them about the free coverage through insurance, I would have been duped into getting the upgrade and paying for it out of pocket. Very bad experience, Bianca showed me an estimate of $1,230 for a crown. I said I want to call my insurance because I should have a choice of what kind of crown I want. She bluntly asked me to go to the lobby area to make the call, because if I don't want to pay $1,230 today, get out of the room for they have to clean it up. The insurance agent said their cost is outrageous, that I shouldn't have to pay more than $325 for any upgrades. The agent talked to Bianca, but she doesn't believe it and asked the agent to send her their contract. Bianca said it'll take a long time to get it, so nothing can be done today. This is the place to go! The front desk staff are so nice, extremely accommodating, and friendly. If you want a dental hygienist, Lei is an absolute gem. My gums were feeling sore that day, but I didn't feel a thing as I went in for my routine cleaning. She is so gentle and constantly checks up on you to make sure you comfortable! Beware that Dr. Nosti will fabricate your Periodontal measurement numbers and tell you that you have accelerated gum disease. Then he will tell you or even demand that you have a $600.00 gum laser treatment. I refused, he was extremely upset that I would not agree to that (again). He got me once before for that until I caught on to his scheme this time. I went to a different Dentist office and guess what... turns out my Periodontal Gum measurements were just fine and MUCH lower numbers than Dr. Nosti's! I don't have Periodontal Disease after all! Went in for a cleaning and was informed that there was gum damage, a root canal was needed for nerve damage and multiple crowns. Were given a crazy estimate for out of pocket expenses. Almost $6,000, because the insurance wouldn't cover more. I could tell when they said they wouldn't do ANY cleaning unless we agreed to the contract that they were a scamming office that just wanted money. We went to another dentist and they told us that a couple of fills just needed to be replaced. There was no nerve damage at all. No crowns needed. No root canal. No gum disease. Avoid this office! I have had plenty of positive experiences at nearby dental groups, but my experience here really tainted my trips to the dentist. Although all the staff were friendly, I was there three hours for a basic hygiene appointment and new patient consultation. After the initial checkup they proceeded to provide an extensive list of procedures they deemed necessary, many of which seemed excessive and not urgent according to the second opinion I later sought. To make matters worse, the financial arrangements made for these procedures were confusing and not thoroughly explained. I found myself enrolled in a payment plan I hadn't explicitly agreed to, which left me feeling taken advantage of. The whole experience felt more like a sales pitch than genuine dental care. This office should be closed immediately and dentist should lose their license!!! Dentist told me he would not need to use any bone grafts For 2 implants. On my bill they charged $3000 to the insurance company for bone grafts. When confronted with the issue, the Dentist stated he used cadaver bone. Never disclosed this to me... and after confrontation someone in the office was directed to add an addendum to the records. In my opinion, insurance fraud continually runs through my mind. Requested records in writing, four times, to be provided so procedures could be completed elsewhere. This group hasn't provided the information requested, X-rays and implant information. State law requires the records be provided in 2 weeks. Requests were made in July - January still no response. Go elsewhere. read more

I have had two appointments with this dental group in the past 2 weeks, and I am a new patient to them. On my initial appointment the dentist came late, and I was told that my insurance had to be contacted to designate them as my dental clinic. I had designated them as my clinic through my insurance twice before I got there, and when I got there I was told to do it again. When the front desk clerk finally looked at the insurance status she then realized that it had already been done. On my second scheduled appointment I was told that the hygienist will be late. I thought appointments were scheduled so everyone can plan, but my time and scheduled appointments seemed like a secondary priority. It was not just a few minutes late, it was significantly late. The people were "nice" if that is what you value. I value everyone's time and I believe that appointments are set for a reason. DON'T COME THIS PLACE. THEY HAVE AN ATTITUDE, ARROGANT AND IRRESPONSIBLE AFTER SERVICE. Save your money and time. I went there for a check-up and took an x-ray. Then I asked them to send my X-ray film to me. The 1st time they only confirmed my email and DID NOT MENTION when they could send it to me. On the next day, I called to ask again. They confirmed my email again and said WILL SEND IT TO ME IN A WEEK. Ok, I've been waiting for a week and still did not get anything from my email. 3rd time I called to ask again, and they said to check it in Mychart, they might send it to me there. I checked Mychart and SAW NOTHING. The receptionist was arrogant the first time I came. And 3 times I called they all hung up first. They did not wait if you needed to ask or have any concerns, and did not give you a few minutes to go to check in Mychart or guide you where you can find it. Good luck to the management with this way of managing and working. DO NOT NEED TO RECORD over the phone when talking to clients, because it's useless and HELPS NOTHING for the service they give. read more

Bianca Mitchell, the "healthcare coordinator" (just a fancy title for the office receptionist), refused to assist when requested to have x-rays sent to another practice. San Marcos Dental Group was charging $1,600 for a dental cleaning. $1,600! This is an outrageous amount my mother wanted the x-rays sent to another practice in order for a second opinion. According to Bianca, San Marcos Dental Group is unable to send the x-rays directly to another practice because "it is against the law." This is complete absurd; this has never been an issue. Clearly, she lacks knowledge, interpersonal skills, and common decency. Sadly, the "office manager" was also not helpful. After a two-hour, in-person exchange, the x-rays were emailed. I have been going to San Marcos Dental Group for years, maybe even close to a decade, since I've been in the area. After having a lot of dental issues as a child I try to make sure I stay on top of these bad boys because I would like to keep them. Every experience and the staff has always been pleasant...until now. Went in for 6 month exam/cleaning, all is as normal until I sit in the chair for my cleaning and hear an unfamiliar voice. Find out the dentist I've always gone to is no longer here as I'm already in the chair. It would have been nice to receive notification of this prior to my appointment or at least when I checked in but no. Now a new dentist not a complete issue except for the fact the first thing he tried to do was to convince me to get invisalign...for those who dont know me, my teeth are pretty much straight from braces years ago minus a few spaces that have grown but dont bug me. From here, he tells me I have a cavity and all my gum measurements are suddenly 3/4/5s from 1s and 2s just 6 months earlier. Now I dont want to judge you new guy, but me thinks not and finds this hard to believe. From here they give me an estimate for over $800 in dental work AFTER insurance and tell me no cleaning today and they'll do it when I schedule the other work. What a waste of time. Decided to hunt down my prior dentist for a 2nd opinion because I know her and if she agrees with all of this then obviously something crazy happened in the past 6 months. If you feel you have been overcharged, I highly recommend calling your insurance and ask for assistance reviewing the bills, copay, and filing a complaint if necessary. My insurance informed me that San Marcos Dental Group was overcharging me for a crown. They requested $1,200 from me, so my insurance called to confirm the price. San Marcos Dental Group told my insurance they offered me a cheaper option for $150, which was not true. They only offered 2 types of credit cards and to reschedule me until I could afford the $1,200. This, after they did not inform me that my root canal also required that I pay for my crown separately. On June 8, 2023, I got a root canal done. I was under the impression this was the only appointment needed. They did not inform me I would need a crown until AFTER my root canal was completed. I asked them how much my appointment for the crown would be. The receptionist told me that I wouldn't have to pay anything, since I paid $110 already and it was covered by that amount. I called my insurance after to ask for a new dental office after they tried charging me. I told them I was unhappy with San Marcos Dental Group because they scheduled me for a crown, telling me I would not have to pay anything, then charging me $1,200 for the crown that day. Upon hearing this, my insurance provider was shocked and told me $1,200 is too much for a crown with insurance. When my insurance called this practice, they said they had offered a cheaper crown, but my insurance knew they were lying and are assisting me in reviewing previous bills. Since I was at the office long enough, onto some fun gossip/chisme: (1/2) The dentist and her dental assistant also kept complaining about their coworkers while they were performing the root canal. Turns out, someone in the office ignore a sign in the kitchen asking the office not to heat up fish in the microwave, as someone in the office has an allergy. Someone ignored the sign, thinking it was a "clean up after yourself" sign and proceeded to heat up their fish. This individual is pescatarian. Upon smelling this, the doctor with the allergy and/or a manager yelled at the individual, leaving her sad. The dental assistant mentioned googling if you can get anaphylactic shock from fish being microwave, but decided not to share the results. (2/2) The dentist who performed my root canal on 6/8/23 also complained about the patients she received that day. She said she hates getting patients from Western Dental because it requires her to ask the patient for information and essentially take more time out of her day. She said it takes more time and questioned if this office had enough patients of their own. In summary, if you think this dental practice is overcharging you, call your insurance to file a complaint. At a dentists' office nonetheless, which in itself is a nerve racking experience for some. I came back inside hoping to re approach the situation, hoping her computer was ready and she was in a better mood and was coldly asked "DID YOU FILL OUT THE PAPERWORK ONLINE?" I told the girl I wasn't aware of anything to be filled out online, which is why I came early to my appointment so if they have a hard copy, I can fill out whatever was needed right there, scoffingly was told that they do everything online and that she didn't know of anyone else doing it any differently... Office manager steps in... introduces herself as the office manager, and proceeds to add fuel to the situation instead of diffusing the situation calmly and moving the conversation along to the next steps, something productive, or assessing and bettering the poor example of the office's etiquette that was shown so far. After I expressed that this wasn't going to be a good fit, the office manager proceeded to abruptly tell me "well we're going to charge you" thinking that I would leave mine and my daughter's dental care in the hands of these ill-mannered girls. Initially, I was impressed with the care I received on my first visit. They were knowledgeable and courteous. The trouble started when I received the estimated cost for the necessary work. I chose this provider because they would accept the dental insurance that I had. What I found out was they were more expensive than the previous estimate I had from a dentist where I would have to pay in cash because they didn't accept my insurance provider. What I have concluded from this experience is that I should have checked them on Yelp first. They seem to be mostly concerned with charging as much as they can get away with. I plan on going back to the dentist where I will be paying cash and should still be able to save money in the long run, and they have a much higher Yelp rating. read more
