Showed up yesterday, since I had been here before and didn't pack lunch I figured I would swing by, I went right at opening, so I can't describe how their bar aspect is nowadays, some of my friends say it still fun! Found this restaurant while shopping at one of the stores in this small strip mall. It looked very festive, and colorful, so I decided to go in. I asked to use the restroom, and she said it would be two dollars. I asked why? she very informatively explained how many non-customers try to use the facilities, and of course upkeep. I agreed and paid the two dollars. It took me a little bit offguard. I had never seen anything like this, but then thinking about it, id rather use a clean public restroom than one that is not taken care of, I was OK paying the two dollars. Reading some of the reviews, I'm definitely going to come back and try their food. I did ask for a cup of ice as I was leaving and they kindly decided not to charge me, that was cool!! read more

San Marcos has an motley Mexican menu. inside dining or take out. no outside dining. reviews range from 1 to 5 stars. decided to order simply. offerings: burritos, tortas, lunch combo specials, breakfast, shrimp cocktails, soups & salads, specialities, fajitas, molcajetes, booze. eats: al pastor burrito (8.99) -filled with onions, beans, rice, al pastor pork cubelets with a spicy flavor. -tortillas was slightly toasted. spicy salsa included. -took it take out to avoid being late for medical appointment. -lots of parking. read more

Didn't want to come because there were many bad reviews but moved nearby so why not. Honestly, the tripas extra crunchy soft taco got me!!! It was delicious but pretty small. I had 2 tripas, 2 birria tacos, 1 hard shell carne asada taco. My partner had 2 tripas taco, 2 pastor tacos, 2 carne asada taco, 1 hard shell carne asada and was still hungry lol. But we'll come back and try other items on the menu. read more

Wow.... (Not a Good wow)Where do I even start. We have visited San Marcos numerous times and it is normally a good experience. This time was a nightmare. We had a party of 10 that consisted of 5 kids and 5 adults. The server was *JORGE GARCIA*(worse service ever) we ordered our meals and everything was great at this point. The food came and there was issues right away received Tacos instead of taquitos fine we will just tell them no problem. WE tell Jorge and he decides to argue and say NO that's what you ordered and rolled his eyes at us. Probably rolling his eyes reading this. I remember and didn't want to swap it out. The kids whose meal it was said that's fine I'll eat it. We get to the end of our meal and unfortunately the food here has gone down hill just like the service but we didn't complain. We got our check and it was two different families and the check needed to be split. Jorge said we don't do that here with his same attitude as before.... I said I know you can you have before and I need you to do that. He storms off and looks like he doesn't know how to operate the computer. It takes him several minutes. He comes back with the two separate checks and things are looking great oops spoke to soon. The kids meals were on there and not free like they were supposed to be on Tuesdays. I go to tell him and once again Jorge is ready to give attitude. He tells me I'm wrong and there was not enough adult meals to cover the kids meals...... I told him there's 5 adults and 5 kids and that it is really simple math. He gives me an eye roll and goes back to the computer and looks baffled. He then slams the check in my hand and ask is this right? Needless to say one of my favorite places In town is no more and I'll have to find a New restaurant. If I ran this place Jorge Garcia should maybe be moved to dish washing as customer service might not be his strong suit in life. read more

I tried out San Marcos Taqueria on Sat 11/10/12 because Oasis Grill is closed on weekends. There were 2 people eating early for Sat dinner, I had to read through the menu & decided on: FREE chips & salsa given if you want it - I passed on the chips, salsa was good, but too salty. 2 Lengua tacos combo with rice & beans $5.75. Homemade tortillas then filled with lengua & salsa were pretty good. rice - average, beans only refried were ok. Horchata Small $1.50 - small isn't listed on the menu, but the guy said they had it so I got one. It was nice & cold & creamy. not too sweet. Separate bathrooms in the back - I had to ask for someone to unlock the door to the women's since it was locked. read more

Soooo good! Customer service is great, food is fantastic! Reminds me of mexico and the beach. Came in for some tacos but zaaaaym! Got the bowl of seafood heaven! They explain to you what it is and very friendly. Seafood is fresh and would definitely come back! Customers are nice too! read more

Ok this place is around the corner from my house, I had been there before and thought the food was horrible and bland, but now I heard it was under new management so I went to give it a second chance. Friday nights they have Karaoke/DJ night, some dancing. The food looks good in pictures, I asked for chile rellenos which is probably a standard at all Mexican restaurants but they didn't not have. I should've known from the moment we got that bland tasting salsa and cardboard chips that I was taking a risk with my meal. I ordered a shrimp wet super burrito, no rice, no pico de gallo...simple enough right?!?! Wrong! Essentially what I got was a taco bello bean burrito with 4 flavorless shrimps, and to my surprise but not really, the unmelted cheese and sour cream go on the outside of the green "salsa" wet burrito at this joint. This place is now under new management and I must say it now Sucks Ass and i will not return ever ..these people ruined a great restaurant it was amazing before the new owners came in now its watered down bs small portion different cook and its total garbage now what a heart breaking place.... UPDATE....!!!!@ I revisited the place after new ownership and gave it a chance to settle in and I must say they are back together it's not at 100% but its definitely worth it so it's by far way better than its first launch of new ownership I was really bummed about it when we revisit the new place but it's now back on top with the tacos Barbacoa topping its list as the most amazing you will ever taste the Molcajetes follow right in second place and Consume goes with everything. This is a humble joint with friendly employees. The sopes are my favorite here and their carnitas is always juicy and crispy! Crispy carnitas make me very very happy. Sometimes my rice is hard but I have never ever had a problem with my carnitas. I like to eat here before doing some deal finding at grocery outlet. They also serve mixed drinks and beer which is a plus on top of the freindly atmosphere and a-ok food. read more

Found this place thanks to my nephew and his girlfriend and I have to say, it's a hidden gem in Hayward! Place: easy to find, right off of Santa Clara - close to 92 with plenty of parking in the shared parking lot. Pretty spacious. Food: The malcojetes were amazing!! We ordered the one to share that had shrimp, chicken, beef & chorizo. It was inspiring. The meat was clean, and the soup was delicious! We couldn't stop eating (despite being super full) until it was all gone. That paired with the homemade tortillas (which we ordered more of- you get 3 each person per meal), rice, beans & salad...was one heck of a meal for two! Our kids wanted some of our tortillas, which is why we ordered more, otherwise we would've been fine! Drinks were tasty as well. Service: everyone was nice enough. But there were a couple of times we had to track down our waiter for food or drinks. And when we had to order additional tortillas....it took a LONG time. This place is terrible. I was the only person in the restaurant and they messed up my order. I'm never going back.

I came in today March 11, 2018. I was informed that they are under new management. Therefore,I cannot judge the old manager/cook restaurant because I've never been there before. The food was an experience it had no flavor it was bland I had an enchilada, a Chile Reyno, rice and beans,and no flavor whatsoever. My husband had the Carne Asada with rice and beans and tortilla. My daughter had super nachos which she shared with her fiancé. The comments from both of them was the food was very bland, with no flavor whatsoever. Now I have to admit customer service was great and they were kind enough to honor my 10% off from my yelp coupon. The tortillas were awesome. But we don't go to restaurants just to eat tortillas, we expect fine cooking. My message to the owner either find a new cook or retrain the one you have. Hispanic food should have a lot flavor. Fix that and the restaurant will be great. because your staff is awesome. Good luck to you I'll go back in a year and check you guys out and see how you're doing. Honest opinion: I'd rather drive 15 minutes to go to a better taqueria or just make food at home instead of eating at this restaurant. The food is obviously not the greatest but, the way the business lacks courtesy for the neighborhood gives me yet another reason to avoid the convenience of a local restaurant and opt for spending my time, my gas, and my money going to another restaurant farther away. read more

Nope.Nope.Nope. The food was okay at best but the service from the beginning was terrible. No greeting or guidance from the staff when coming into the place. The waitress who served us didn't help at all. She was rude and it was obvious by how she adressed us. While looking at the menu to possibly order more food, she took two menus and pretty much snatched the menu from another person at the table while they were reading. Also unsanitary, because in between giving us our food and containers at the table, she was apparently eating a snack at the bar with her bare hands while serving us without gloves. And worse, she overcharged the table by upgrading the size of items without our knowledge after clarifying our orders multiple times. overall, no. the service by this waitress was unacceptable to the point where the food couldn't help. No second chance for terrible service and okay food. should've walked out. read more

Avoid this place, inhuman attitude. Staff didn't allow my 3 year old toddler in their toilet, said it's allowed only for customers and my poor kid couldn't control his pee n did it in his pants. I will never go here again. I went there for the first time, ordered a grill chicken taco salad to go. This was not a taco salad. The beans and rice was on the side compartment of container. Grill chicken was not grilled chicken. It looked like they grilled just the skin of the chicken with dry left out chicken The salad was also off to the side and the amount was about 1/4 cup. Hidden gem in Hayward, there is only one item on the menu I buy here, its probably the only place you can find it especially at this level of quality, tacos de barbacoa with hand made tortilla cheese and a side of beans and rice. Nothing better on a Friday after work with an ice cold beer. Its a little on the pricey side but well worth it, most people would be full with just 2 tacos anyway. read more
