Popped in to pick up a quick lunch on a Sunday as I saw the Yelp reviews were solid. It's a little off the beaten path (or off the main road) by the Amtrak station in Hayward. Parked in the lot next door, seemed a bit sketch so thankfully it was daytime. Nothing fancy inside, just your normal mom and pop, divey kind of place. Got an al pastor super burrito and a carnitas super nachos. Both of these dishes were over $15 which seems a bit pricey to me but I realize it's kind of the going rate these days for burritos. Shockingly good tacos. I would give this place 6 stars if I could. It's a typical Hayward taqueria...so be prepared for that and make sure to park in the back lot. How does this place only have 45 reviews? The word needs to be spread. The tacos here are delicious!  On a chance, we thumbed through Yelp, and poof, it appeared! Taco heaven!  The super tacos are meaty and packed with all the things right in this world. They are tasty, filling, and just what a taco should be!  The restaurant is over on Meekland, over by A Street Amtrak. You really don't know it's there until you find it. The restaurant is smaller, but there is enough seating on both the inside and the outside. They have parking; it's just a bit tight.  The staff were nice. Ordering was quick and painless, and did I mention the tacos?  We had: 4 super tacos: Carnitas, Al Pastor, and Carne Asada!  Menudo--it was also well done. Tons of tripe cooked down to a meaty, tender bowl of love. It was spicy, filling, and just good old comfort food.  They give you three different salsas - Not hot, medium and Habanero Fire! All three were nice. You just can't beat the heat of the habanero with the Taco! This might be my new go-to! Very impressed! We at at this restaurant a LONG time ago when it was a Mexican seafood restaurant, also family owned/run that was great. We were sad when it closed. Thanks to Yelp, I learned it's been reopened as a Taqueria. As others have mentioned the patio is a lovely, cozy setting. I like the fact that Taqueria Familiar is "off the beaten path" on Meekland Avenue which has NO other restaurants on it and the surrounding area is either light industrial or houses. And as others have said, they do have the off street parking lot behind the building. The menu has changed from a year ago. They no longer offer a Vegie menu, which I saw in the menu photos. And like every restaurant coping with price increases on everything, they no longer list prices because they are changing so often. I ordered a fish taco, a carne asada taco, a regular chicken burrito, a "little burrito" which just has beans and cheese and a side of beans, all to go. That was plenty of food for my husband and I as the regular burritos are HUGE. Bill was $35, which is very reasonable for two people these days. The absolute super stars of the meal were the DELICIOUS BEANS and the soft, homemade tortillas. I ate the "little burrito" myself and was in absolute bean and cheese heaven. SO glad I got that side order of beans! The chicken burrito was also excellent. The tacos were a little disappointing. Carne Asada was a bit tough and overcooked, Fish was not really crispy. BUT part of that could have been it was a to go order, fish tacos best eaten fresh. We will absolutely be back and will sit on the outdoor patio to eat. I can't wait to try some of their platos, including the whole fried fish. I didn't mention the service, which was super. Not a lot of interaction with the counter person but she was very friendly and helpful. Jamaica and horchata: pretty standard Fish taco: THIS IS WHAT A $5.50 TACO IS SUPPOSED TO BE. Seems to be a new price point for tacos but this one is worth it. Big piece of fish that isn't fishy or too fried. Big pieces of avocado. Lots of salsa Fresca and shredded cabbage. I would like a creamy lime sauce on it but I squeezed some lime on and added guacamole and that was almost as good. Carne asada plate: meat is lean and easy to cut. HIGHLY UNDERRATED!!! I cannot stress how hard it is for me to find a fresh chile relleno with cheese that actually melts!! Everywhere I go the chile is either old/spoiled or has a block of unmeltable cheese in the middle. This place has changed the game when it comes to serving fresh quality meals. I also very much enjoyed their cozy front patio! We initially ordered to go but we ended up staying just to enjoy the relaxing outdoor atmosphere. My boyfriend and I went here last night to try a new taco spot after he recently moved to San Leandro from Fremont. What we experienced was the worst customer service l've ever had at a restaurant in San Leandro and that's saying something lols. To preface, l've had bad service in the past and never felt compelled to write a review, but the sheer disrespect and unprofessionalism I encountered here I needed to state. We arrived at 5:45 PM and parked in their lot. Since it was our first time, we spent about 10 minutes looking at the menu in the car. While we were deciding, a large man started shining a flashlight into the parked cars, including ours. I assumed he was some kind of security guard patrolling the lot since the area isn't great. A few minutes later, I was distracted on my phone when I heard a loud thump on the back of my car. I got out to see two kids, about 10 years old, playing soccer in the parking lot. They looked scared and shocked, and there was a man nearby who appeared to be supervising them. However, he said nothing to the kids, let alone apologized for the ball hitting my car. Despite this, 1 was still planning to go inside, until what happened next. The same man with the flashlight came up to my window and knocked on it. When I rolled it down, he rudely asked what I was doing in the parking lot. I explained we were looking at the menu and were about to come in. I also mentioned that the kids had hit my car. His response? Sarcastically, "What do you want me to do about it?" I told him to at least tell the kids not to play around parked cars. Instead of addressing the issue, he laughed in my face, called me a "vieja ridícula". ,ridiculous woman in Spanish thinking I wouldn't understand his machista big body self and walked away. At that point, my boyfriend told him "We can just leave, but before we could, the man told us "Yes leave!" So, we left. As we drove off, I realized I should get their insurance information in case my car was damaged.When we returned, the parking lot had been closed off, but the kids were still playing. The man comes out again and I confronted the man, asking for insurance information. His response? Another laugh and a dismissive, "We have security cameras. You can check if you want." At no point did anyone apologize or even acknowledge the situation. This was, hands down, the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. The blatant lack of professionalism, the dismissive attitude, and the sheer disrespect made it clear this place doesn't value its customers. Instead, we went to Guadalajara Tacos, where the parking lot was well-lit, there were not kids playing soccer, the service was friendly, and the food was fantastic. I highly recommend them over this place. A small letter to management: allowing unsupervised kids to play in the parking lot is irresponsible. What if they hit someone's car and caused significant damage? Or worse, hurt someone? It's not the kids' fault they're just children. But it is the adults' responsibility to manage the situation appropriately, which clearly didn't happen here. Bottom line, don't waste your time or money here. Al pastor torta, asada fries, super nachos, and a super veggie burrito for the family and everyone was happy and well fed. Great prices. I liked the salsas too. I can't believe it took me this long to try this place out! The food here is bomb! I got the al pastor super taco and a carne asada plate and both completely blew me away. The al pastor was moist and juicy with a very nice charred, grilled taste to it. It's almost similar to barbecue brisket burnt ends in that aspect. Absolutely delicious. It came with avocado as well and Pico de gallo. The carne asada plate was delectable as well. It came as a huge piece of beef accompanied with rice, beans, pico, onions, lime, and a big grilled pepper. The carne asada wasn't too tough and had excellent beef flavor. The onions and pico were very fresh and the rice was very well made and seasoned with its own distinct flavor. I'm for sure coming back and trying the rest of the items and meats! read more

My second time picking up from this spot and it seems to be very consistent with the flavors, service and quickness. Ordered super burritos, super tacos and regular tacos. All very good flavors, tortillas don't go soggy and fresh ingredients. Tip! I've tried several in the area: los carnalitos, tacos gonzalez, taqueria y mar, el buen sabor, lalo's taqueria, and taqueria familiar is by far the best. Meat is seasoned boldly and have a kick. It is cooked perfectly. Tortillas are crisped up so they don't get soggy but are not overly greasy. Love the fresh radish and spiced onion too. Lovely little 'mom and pop' place. No, I mean it literally. The lady behind the counter was literally holding the cutest napping baby. Aside from the cuteness, the food was great too! I had the breakfast burrito, which was substantial, tasty, and a well balanced substrate for the available sauces and any added meats you want to go with. Wife had shrimp enchiladas with green sauce (the shrimp was not a standard option, but they gamely went along with her kooky idea). Lots of flavor, and went well with the sauces. They brought us these big bottles of sauces, mild, medium, and spicy. I tried and enjoyed the mild and medium. I am a not-so-dating gringo so I shall leave the spicy taste test to you.
