This review is only for the small banquet room in the back, behind the bar. Our group had a fundraiser event recently and there were about 50 people that attended. I can't say enough good things about the staff that took care of us. Jessica, Pepe, and the manager Luis ensured that our event ran smoothly. Jessica took care of our drink orders and Pepe made sure the food Buffett was regularly replenished. Both of them constantly cleaned up around the cocktail tables, ensuring that the area stayed presentable throughout the event. The Mexican always has great pricing on drinks so the guests enjoyed a variety of them. The food was delish and everything served was not only pretty to look at but also tasty. They also let us use their mic and speaker system, which I think is a plus. Waste of $100, and we both regretted our meal. It had been a few years since we'd eaten here, but we had really enjoyed it in the past, so we were looking forward to coming back. We arrived around 4:30 on a Sunday and were seated in the bar area. After waiting 10-15 minutes with no water, chips, or salsa, we still had no idea who was supposed to be serving us. The bartenders never acknowledged us, and nobody stopped by to even say, "We'll be right with you" or thank us for our patience. Eventually, someone came over and asked if we were ready to order. Our food arrived almost right away, but my fiancé realized his added carne asada was missing. The waiter didn't bring it out until he was nearly finished with his meal because he never rang it in.. I ordered the combination fajitas, and they were just okay. The entire time, there was a woman walking around in a blazer who appeared to be a manager, but she seemed more focused on training the bartender than checking on guests. Had she been paying attention, she would have clearly seen how frustrated we were. When our server finally brought the check, we noticed we had been charged twice for the chilaquiles, plus separately for the carne asada that didn't even arrive with the meal. After another 5 minutes, I flagged down who I believe was the manager to fix the bill. She corrected it and brought it back, but then we were left waiting another 5-10 minutes for our server to actually process the payment. The waiter never even thanked us before we left. A friend recommended this to me and I finally drove out to give it a try. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and was seated right away. Everything on the menu sounded so good and had to go with the shrimp ceviche and carne asada plate. While I waited for my order, I had fresh salsa and fresh chips. I could not stop eating the chips and had to keep on ordering more. The ceviche was super good and the carne asada was super tender. The rice and beans had the right amount of flavor and the jalapeño had the right kick. The server was really friendly and gave great recommendations on drinks. The restaurant had good lighting, noise level wasn't too loud, and the vibe was pretty chill. Plenty of parking and easy to get to. I personally loved my enchiladas the white sauce was so creamy and flavorful. Rice and beans also authentically delicious. This is a great Mexican spot located right across from Target and Five Guys on Hesperian Blvd in Hayward! I've been here at least three or four times and absolutely love the food. While the service can be a bit slow at times, especially with larger groups, I'd recommend ordering ahead if you're going with a team to avoid any delays. As a vegetarian, I was happy to find a few solid options. I've tried the wet burrito with salsa verde and the vegetarian enchiladas--both were delicious! I have been here so many times even before the remodeling but I have never had a chance to review yet. Restaurant looks nicer and more modern after the remodeling. This time my family and I went to have dinner on New Year's Eve and our waitress was so nice. Drinks and foods came out fast and tasted good. The only thing that bothered me was. We ordered chip salsa, guacamole a d bean dip(which was not free anymore but it was understandable) and asked for more.... CUSTOMERS BEWARE Sat at the bar and had lunch and drinks. I asked to upgrade my tequila. Not an exotic one. When I got my bill, I was charged an extra $40 each for my two drinks! This was on top of the regular price with the regular tequila. The bartender explained that there was nothing they could do. So I asked for the Manager about the $80 extra charge. Her name was Katalina. I told her that I was not made aware of the told of the extra price. She calmly explained that it is The Mexican's policy to not disclose the price of upgrades. I'm shocked the ratings for this place are so low. It's been a while since I've been to this location, but having gone recently, I can say that the service has drastically improved. They have one of the yummiest Micheladas in the bay area. The sopes are one of my personal favorites, along with their tacos and more recently, the poblano and enchiladas. I highly recommend skipping the ceviche, it's not very exciting and pretty basic, it's overall good but not really that great if you know what I mean. She sat us by the bar and told us that the bartender would be serving us none of the servers that we asked were willing to help us, but they helped all the other people next to us. They charge you four dollars for chips. What kind of restaurant charges you for chips and salsa that should be standard at any Mexican restaurant was place is not worth it. Save your money and go somewhere else. We will not be returning back here ever we had to ask for everything to be brought to the table. They just seemed like they did not want to help us. The place has two side, a bar side and a traditonal resturaunt side. We sat towards the bar where they have what sport is currenly playing on the tube and they have multiple up and around. The bar side is about the right amount of noisey for being a bar. I order over half the drink menu, so I wont give specifics, but if your leaning towards a softer drink the Sandia Loca is your bet... if you want something different.... The Peachy Martini..... We came here on Mother's Day and although larger parties had to wait, we didn't since we designated either indoor or outdoor. It was warmer and so an outdoor table was available. The outdoor space was decorated nicely with vines and lights throughout. The seating was near Hesperian but with the music it wasn't too loud. The waiter took awhile to take out order. And when he did he took the order of another table that came 10 minutes after us right away. So the timing can be wonky here. The menu is large and comprehensive. My partner got the chimichanga, which was big. I got the plate with chicken wings, quesadilla, and flautas. My partner liked the chimichanga, but said that it didn't heat up well the next day. He also linked the chicken wings on my plate and said they had a crunchy, buttery flavor. My quesadillas were basic and the flautas with chicken could have used more flavor in them. I thought the guacamole was pretty sour and could have used more flavor. It didn't go well with the other dishes because it was so sour. I think overall my food was fine but it was missing something. I do look forward to coming back and trying other dishes. But for 2 dishes and a margarita, $60 was on the pricey side, so we won't necessarily be in a rush to come back. read more

This was my 3rd time and my last. First of all- no chips and salsa, that's available but you have to pay extra for that- what the heck? I ordered chicken mole which came with rice and beans. The serving of beans was extremely small and had a really thick layer of cheese on top of it, which I took off. The chicken was dry and the mole sauce tasted like it had come from a can. The rice and tortillas were ok. My husband had a beef dish and the beef was cut up into bite size pieces with a sauce that he told me tasted like enchilada sauce with tomato juice added. $55 for this! We didn't even have drinks! I had to come see for myself after seeing all the complains about their food on Yelp. Now, I have to agree. Their food is not authentic anymore, it is too Americanized!!! Maybe that's why on a Friday night at about 7pm and they are not busy. I've been here on a Friday night and they were usually packed!!! We ordered the Mini Sopes and the corn masa has no flavor or Mexican spices and they were very mushy. The Caldo de Res (Beef Soup) also had no flavor or Mexican Spices. Tasted like a regular vegetable soup with beef. I have never had Caldo de Res with clear broth!!! I have never been to a Mexican restaurant that doesn't give you free chips and salsa. My server said they don't do that anymore is because they are freshly made. That is one of the dumbest excuse I've ever heard because I know plenty of Mexican restaurant / Taqueria still give free chips and salsa and some of those restaurants give you freshly made chips. Prices doesn't match up to the food quality. I really was looking forward to this place based on the reviews. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! First, no chips and salsa without an extra charge, ordered a Molcajete for two people with rice and beans on the side as the server claimed it was included. Then was brought a fajita plater TWICE before the Molcajete came. Then came with no rice and beans except with bean inside the Molcajete? That's a first. Completely dry inside the Molcajete except with beans, and I inquired about where the rice and beans were? The server then claims there was an extra charge for rice and beans? I'm like okay?? Then she said it was only included in the fajita platter. Then the Molcajete came with only two tortillas for two people, no guacamole or with pico or sauce. A completely dry meal. One taco for each patron I guess? Ordered additional tortillas with another server who delivered the meal but the tortillas never came as our server. So basically, stayed waiting for 20 minutes for our server to order tortillas but the meal was cold already.. by then we were lost our appetite. Had to walk to the hostess to ask for a manager then waited another 10 minutes, explained the situation to the manager then he disappeared to the kitchen to investigate for another 15 minutes? Tired of waiting we walked to the cashier ready to leave then the manager comes back offering a 30% off the bill which by the way is the most he can give according to restaurant management? When we left 90 percent of the food on the table! Wasted our time investigating the issue than resolving the issue, but was offered to remake the meal for a Togo meal? No thanks we live over an hour away it would be another cold meal that we paid for and if your order and experience were terrible your only given 30% discount.. The busier cleaned the table faster than we got any service. Absolute a waste of time, money and experience from a couple that NEVER complains about the service or food before.
