Came in for a Wednesday dinner and it wasn't too busy, which made for a relaxed experience. Service was prompt and attentive throughout, and there seemed to be plenty of staff on hand. We were brought fresh tortilla chips to start, which were great, along with a Lazy Susan-style setup of salsas and toppings. Unfortunately, this was a bit of a miss for me--there were raw onions, raw jalapeños, a green salsa, and more of a plain red hot sauce rather than a true salsa. I would have preferred something more traditional like a good pico de gallo or a more balanced house salsa. Ordered a bottle of Dos Equis, which at $7 felt a bit steep. Most entrées were priced between $17-$25, which is pretty standard. I had the carnitas and they were excellent--really flavorful and well-prepared. I also tried a bite of the chile relleno, which was solid as well. Overall, the food was good and the service was strong. That said, it's a bit out of the way for me, and while I enjoyed it, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back. read more

We came here on a weekend afternoon and ordered a vegetarian burrito a steak enchiladas with red sauce. There were complimentary tortilla chips and salsa but the salsa was more on the spicy side. I ordered the vegetarian burrito with the extra grilled onions and bell peppers, which was an extra $2. However those vegetables weren't as grilled and cooked as I would have hoped. The burrito itself was fine but it could have used more flavor. It was mainly rice and beans. The enchiladas were also standard, with a lot of cheese. The servers were kind and helpful and the ambience was that of a diner with many booths inside. The food came out fairly quickly. Came back to my go to spot! JUST beat the rush! Place has its nice pics on the wall with the decorative lights throughout the restaurant and the tv's to watch whatever game might be on! Me and my sister went here and everybody else was nice but one lady , when we came in she was already looking at us sideways and then when we was ready to pay the bill she told us how much it was she start telling us the tip options like we was OBLIGATED to give her a tip and we pressed no tip because she was already being racist and she got mad at that and looked at us sideways when we pressed no tip she didn't say have a nice day no nothing and she would've got a tip if she would've checked on us and been nicer and doing her job she didn't check on us not once otherwise the food was good. read more

This has been one of my favorite go to restaurants since 1991. Started coming here with my family on the regular basis and I have never stopped. It's family owned and operated and everybody is super friendly. The restaurant has been remodeled in the last few years and it's really clean and the layout is very welcoming. The food is exceptional. They have the best tacos period. The chili Colorado is fantastic and if you're looking for a burrito, they have chili Colorado burritos that are game changing. The super burritos are massive. I've never had a bad experience when it comes to the food or the service. I can't say enough good things about them. I picked up a to go order over the weekend and went with the wet burrito with steak along with a few carnitas tacos. The burrito is still just as good as I remembered. The sauce has its own unique flavor and the burrito itself is huge. I finished mine but was completely full after. My wife enjoyed the tacos and usually one or two is more than enough for her. I came here with some family and we were sat down right away with chips brought out to our table. Seating is all indoors and you can see into the kitchen which gives it a casual vibe. I got one taco de cabeza because they are really big tacos. The cabeza was very flavorful and juicy. My partner got the wet burrito which was good as well. Unfortunately everyone got their food before me and my food was brought out already when everyone else finished eating because they forgot to make mine. It was a bit upsetting having to watch everyone else eat while I was hungry. I also wish they had smaller sizes available for their aguas frescas as they only offer one size. Went there for a Friday lunch. Got there just after opening and was immediately seated and given chips/salsa. The food arrived quickly and we ate quickly! My friend got the 2 taco plate with steak, and I got a carnitas taco and chicken enchilada with verde sauce. Both were delicious with a BIG favorite being the flavor of the carnitas! Amazing! The waitstaff was fantastic and we asked if they minded if we hung out for a while since I had not seen my friend in a long time. They were very nice and we stayed and talked for another hour (there was no wait for tables, so we didn't feel too guilty). I've always come back to get wet burritos from here because I love them so much, but after today's experience, it will unfortunately be my last. From the moment my family and I walked in, the lady with braided bleached blonde hair did not want to acknowledge us. After she reluctantly sat us, I watched her signal to the male server that she did not want to serve us. But, why? We literally walked in patiently and respectfully just as we would anywhere. I observed her happily greet every other guest that came in afterwards. I have no idea why she felt that way towards us, but it made me feel really bad. What was worse is that I didn't want to just up and leave after we were given the complimentary chips and salsa and somehow confirm whatever bias in her mind she had made about us. The male server wasn't much better. It took a lot of time for us to be acknowledged at all. I've always enjoyed coming here because I love the food and previous service but wow, I just actually feel hurt today. I have been a regular at el taquito for years. I used to love the burritos here but today just wasn't it. The burrito was lacking flavor, the house made mole sauce was also not up to par. The burrito was stuffed with to much lettuce which could have been the cause of the lack of flavor. It was also upsetting when I asked my server if I could get grilled chicken instead of shredded they told me they only have one type of chicken which I don't believe is accurate. I hope to come back soon and hopefully they can do a better job especially with the burrito. read more

People love their tacos. That's probably what I should have ordered. But I got the sope plate instead. It was a bit smaller than expected, but it was alright. The beans tasted good. But the rice, it was way too mushy - as if the added too much water. I couldn't eat it. Then, we got the bill and we paid cash. The server picked up it up and we expected change. My family and friends have been going to El Taquito #1 and #2 for over 20 years because it's good food for the price especially the super wet burrito $15 and $5 tacos. We recently went there and were surprised on how much the prices have gone up it's $18 for the wet burrito plus $2 extra surcharge so it's now a $20 burrito and the Tacos are $8 each now. I understand inflation and the delivery charges are higher but to jump that high it's just ridiculous I will never pay those outrageous prices especially when I can support local vendors instead and pay $300 to $350 for tacos which makes for sense especially when your taking the whole family that can be costly. Good Luck! To El Taquito but I will never go back there again until they fix those crazy prices. read more

We came here on a Friday evening for dinner. There was free parking attached to the restaurant which was convenient in downtown Hayward. The restaurant wasn't too crowded, so we were able to get seated and order food quite quickly. I got the ala carte chile relleno for ~$6.95. The batter is quite eggy which is different from other chile rellenos that I've had, but it still tasted pretty good. The chili is stuffed with cheese which went well with the sauce. Meanwhile, my friend got the $4.95 cheese quesadilla chicas. It was a simple crispy quesadilla that's filled with melted cheese and topped with bits of salsa and guac. Went to the original El Taquito on Mission Blvd. I'm a little torn and had to rate it on the overall dine-in experience. The food was good! Overall 4 stars. Really enjoyed the taco plate that comes with your choice of two tacos, rice and beans. You can even miss match the tacos like one steak and the other carnitas, pastor, chicken etc. I elected for both one steak and one pastor. The pastor was okay but definitely preferred the steak that was chopped well (no fat on the meat) and cooked perfectly. The El Taquito burrito was a great version of a wet burrito and is absolutely massive. Can easily be shared amongst two people. My only issue and why the food was 4 stars, but the overall rating is 3 stars, is because of the service. It was really slow and inefficient. When we sat down no one gave us a menu, chips & salsa and greeted us for 15 minutes. It was so bad, I went up to the front counter and reminded them we've been seated. Then someone came and brought us some chips & salsa and menus. But didn't come back to take our order. So I instead again, went up to the front counter and placed an order like it was takeout. The restaurant holds no more than 50 and w/ three servers, there was no excuse. To be clear, everyone was very nice, just very inefficient and slow. Hence the overall 3 stars. read more

This is absolutely the place in Hayward for huge burritos. You definitely get your moneys worth with size of these things. We were driving back home from the airport and decided to stop to grab a burrito and this place never disappoints. You walk in, take your seat, and they come right away with the menu and your chips with a little salsa tray. They have all of their Agua Frescas on full display, most places normally have 2-3 but they had 5 different ones to choose from. Our server was really friendly and helpful if you have any questions about the menu. We ordered two of their super burritos, one with steak and one with chicken. Most of their burritos come "wet" but we did not want them to put the sauce on top so the girl offered to give us the sauce on the side, which was great. I ordered the pineapple agua Fresca that tasted a little like a like a powder mix more than fresh pineapple, but it was still really good. The burritos are stuffed with freshly made ingredients. I watched the cook take a fresh piece of steak and a fresh piece of chicken and cook them on the grill so these burritos are made to order there are no trays of meats sitting around waiting for an order to come and they just added it to your order. The meat is made to order! Our sever were super helpful in helping me make modifications to my order since I'm in a sling and can only use one arm, she gave suggestions that helped make it easier time for me to eat, which I really appreciated. I absolutely love this place. It's a small Mexican owned restaurant with a couple of different chain locations but I would say that the Hayward location is the best location 10/10 recommend. Great food and fantastic service! My wife and I took my mother out for a late lunch. We were impressed with the portion sizes and we all enjoyed our food. I had an El Taquito Regular Burrito (served wet, with sour cream and guacamole on top), and we were all amazed - if this is the regular, we couldn't even imagine how huge the Super Burrito must be. I also had a chile poblano relleno that was very good. I knew the service was special when the server noticed I was coughing and brought me a glass of water without my asking. But the most amazing and wonderful part was when my mother had a brief loss of consciousness that required emergency services: the servers helped with the 9-1-1 call and cleared out a space for the paramedics to treat my mother. I can't say enough good things about them, and I'm confident that if you are there for a nice, uneventful meal, they will treat you amazingly well. read more
