Sanctuary Salon is my go to for styles and any hair advice. Hannah is Amazing. Lately I have been changing my hair style and color fairly frequently and Hannah is always up for the color challenge. Because of the pandemic I let my hair get into really bad shape, but one trip to Hannah and my hair is feeling and looking great again. Got a new do and some advice on how to restore my hair so it keeps feeling great. Masks worn the whole time, few people in the salon, air purifiers and surfaces were repeatedly sanitized while I was there. read more

Love this place and Hannah! I have gone to Hannah for over 10 years and happy to see her doing hair at this darling location. It's a little hidden away, right next to a cute tea shop in a courtyard off D Street. You can even order tea and sandwiches while you get your hair done. I have always gotten blonde highlights and Hannah does a fantastic job. She also does a great haircut or trim. It's also a plus that she is super personable and fun to talk to, a must have for a hairstylist! I also love the bumble and bumble products, can't wait to try my new hairdresser's oil. Five Stars is not enough! So excited to finally find a great hair salon after moving here from the Bay Area. I was lucky enough to be referred to Kellie Palmer who is the ultimate professional and very up-to-date with hair color and trends. I let Kellie know what I am thinking of doing, she listens and usually has a better suggestion that would work for my particular hair type. I have been so pleased with the results. Her haircuts fall into place easily and I receive a lot of compliments on the color. Not only is she talented but Kellie goes out of her way to accommodate my crazy schedule. I am SOOOO incredibly thrilled that I've found my new go-to hair salon gal !!! I can't write enough positive things about Kellie. Having just moved to a new city in a new county, I was desperate to find a hair stylist/colorist that I could feel comfortable with, easily communicate with, and have my hair concerns addressed. I was not graced with the ability to even come close to achieving the results that a trained stylist can do so effortlessly, so I actually look forward to my monthly hair salon visit because I know I will walk out grinning ear to ear and feeling like that L'Oreal girl in a commercial. Like many, I spent years buying all the products and trying the 'do it yourself' methods, only to end up with disastrous results. If you have one guilty pleasure, never cut corners on quality and go to someone that knows hair! Being in that age range where my monthly color to cover grey is a must, I needed to find a person and a place where my criteria could easily be met and Kellie met all of my needs. I wasn't looking for fancy and pretentious, I've been to those salons. What I wanted was to find someone I could feel comfortable with immediately, a keep it real, non-pretentious stylist that would listen, observe, take the time to show that she actually cares, and just know how to use the right formula to get my hair that perfect color to compliment my skin tone. Kellie is the type of person that so apparently knows how to naturally just be who she is, someone that loves her work and knows how to make her client feel like she truly is the only person in the room, even if that is actually the case. Some people hear, but they don't listen. Some make idle chit chat, but it's just that, a superficial experience. Kellie is none of these traits. I have had my share of expensive pretentious salon experiences, having lived in L.A, S.F., Manhattan, and recently Marin. What I don't need is a hoity toity experience or attitude, what I do need is to feel comfortable and know that I'm going to walk out of the salon feeling and looking great. While I don't have the time to indulge in many of life's guilty pleasures, I always feel good when someone just 'gets it' and 'gets me' and knows what will best compliment my lifestyle, features and be honest about it. I asked around, I read Yelp reviews, it seems everyone has a peeve about someone. Some need a receptionist to greet them, I don't. Some need to be offered an espresso with a twist of lemon. I don't. Yes, we are all different and what many don't realize is that 'you get what you pay for' and for the type of quality product and professional service one would expect, do understand what it costs to run a proper business and get just that. People that complain about price should not go to a salon as they can find cheaper alternatives. The reality is, salon prices are priced according to many factors. Stylists have overhead and expenses and have to make a living and while some places are truly absurdly overpriced, Sanctuary is one of those rare gems that is priced beyond what is reasonable, as Kellie was able to do what other stylists have charged me 50% more for and she actually has more experience. Yesterday I had my first meet and greet and color experience with Kellie and I WILL be back, as a regular. My hair looked better than it has in months, my expectations were far exceeded, the pricing structure was beyond reasonable, and I appreciated the time spent on me, the attention to detail, and quality of products used. The conversation flowed effortlessly, my blow out looked phenomenal and my hair isn't easy to work with. Chemistry is everything when finding a stylist, someone you are trusting to cut, color and style your hair. If it's there, you know it immediately. If it's not, you shop around as there are plenty of places to go to. One of my bigger stresses about moving to Davis was finding a new hair gal, as this type of relationship is very important to those that truly have limited time and care about spending that time that is mutually invested. Kellie cares, loves her work, is honest and realistic and very skilled at her craft. I have literally no hair skills, I have the utmost respect for someone that does. I might know how I want my hair to look, but I truly have to rely on someone that is expert to make that look happen. I can't magically create it from a bottle purchased at a drugstore. Kellie, thank you. This was a surprise hit! I needed to get my hair cut and a friend took me downtown Davis to find a walk in appointment. Kellie worked with our schedule and took time to find out my needs. I am going through chemotherapy and my hair was coming out by brushfulls. Kellie had the experience to deal with this with ease and grace. She was personable, professional, did a gentle wash on my hair and gave me a cute pixie cut that will last and be easier to manage. I felt so much better and my hair looked healthier. What astounded me is that she wouldn't accept payment, not even a tip. Hannah and Kellie are career professional stylists who have a following of long-time clients, and it shows. Hannah knows my hair, knows my life -- for example, that I spend every summer day in the pool (so I always just get a haircut right before summer, but never color, because who wants to ruin it with chlorine right away?), that the rest of the year I want my highlights natural and not chunky, that my side part is not to be messed with, that I'm a runner and therefore have to be able to pull my hair back into a ponytail (this is non-negotiable) etc. Think how wonderful it would be if you could make a hair appointment and know that you won't have to *explain* anything, you'll just come out looking exactly how you want to look, with hair that works for your whole life, not just a dressy occasion. Kellie is amazing- very friendly, very good at listening to what you really want and doing what you ask for, and very skilled. I have gotten the brazilian blow-out here twice, and it is amazing and 100% reduces the frizz in my hair for at least 2 months afterwards (with proper care- ie- shampoo). I had gotten the keratin complex treatment before, in NJ, and that didn't work even 50% as good as this brazilian one works, which is what Kellie told me and it was true.
