This spa is beautiful, clean, great customer serviceand has all the amenities to help you feel rested and in a sanctuary place. They have an outdoor infinite swimming pool with a beautiful view of the mountains, but it's a few steps from the spa. And in the hot weather it can be a problem for some but for my friends and I we loved it. If we had more time I think I can fall asleep there. The customer service was great there too! Very attentive. The indoor amenities includes hot tub, steam room, and quiet room. The quiet room is worth mentioning bc let me tell you it the best. Its a room with curve beds with twilight's mood ceiling and there's a blanket to help you feel cozy and comfortable. I fell asleep in there for 20 minutes. My masseuse was great! I forget her name. But she gave me a massage that I needed. She loosen up all the knots on my shoulders. One thing I wish they did was have a cover between the floor and your face when you are lying on your stomach. Bc breathing in the floor does not smell good. Especially when you come here to relax. The robe they provided feels so luxurious. Sanctuary reflects exactly what it is a sanctuary. A quite room, a steam sauna, Japanese bath styled jacuzzi, showers and serene pools. A Clean facility with a locker room for changing, private bathrooms and a self-styling bar. Men and women are kept separate, private pods for massages in a cave like grounds. I have experienced the Sanctuary many times each one of my massage therapists were great, each one practicing a different technique. No pics because there is a no cellphone rule which I love! My mom splurged on taking me and my sister to Sanctuary for lunch and a massage for my birthday. We had a nice... albeit quite expensive meal ($70 for 3 salads...) and we spent about $670 for 3 massages. After the massage, we went to lounge by the pool, where I ordered a $16 cocktail. Needless to say, I was shocked when the server approached us and asked for our room number. Then, she proceeded to tell me that we were prohibited from using the hotel's pool since we were not guests there ("only" spa guests!). We needed to leave right away. Seriously! We were informed that a golf cart could take us to a "satellite pool" if we wanted. No kidding... the satellite pool was super small and dirty...not a single person there... no shade... no food/bev service... and no bathroom facilities. What a joke. We were all beside ourselves that we could spend hundreds of dollars and not even be able to relax by the resort pool for an hour or so. We all live right around the corner from Sanctuary. Let me tell you that Royal Palms is a MUCH better experience!!!! Next best is Montelucia. Sanctuary is now a "no return" for us. How can they treat customers that way? read more

We planned our anniversary weekend and were surprised when the little thing in the hotel were over looked. The first night when we pulled back the sheets and blankets we discovered there were nail clippings in the sheets. I was so grossed out we called they came to change the bedding. We also let them know the night before the coffee maker wasn't working. The next morning still not fixed, we got 1 roll of toilet paper that's it. In the morning when they came to clean they didn't refill anything of the toiletries. I was a little shocked because this place is suppose to be relaxing. Getting waters delivered to the room was also a night mare. We had dinner reservations but had to leave the grounds to go buy water bottles and stuff that should be Included in a fancy hotel like this we missed our dinner time at the Sanctuary. We spoke to someone name Jeff and he sent someone name Hector to switch out our coffee maker the second night we were there which we discovered the next morning didn't work. My husband and I were a little grossed out by the cigarette butts on the patio along with the hand prints on the window. We both had massages scheduled the next morning but decided we would be more comfortable at home so we canceled everything didn't really get to enjoy the grounds at all. On the plush side every staff member except for people on the phone we so polite and eager to help in anyway they could. The grounds were beautiful and the pool looked amazing. My husband gifted me a 50 minute Swedish massage at the Spa. While the masseur, Damien, had great massage technique that's where his qualities ended. During the massage, if he needed anything that was in his storage cabinet, he would be so loud with opening/closing the doors it was jarring; as though he was desperately looking for something in the kitchen. I also found it strange that at no point during the session did he ask how the pressure was or inquire about my comfort. Which I thought was common practice. Furthermore, prior to the start of the massage I stated which areas needed attention and which to leave alone, specifically my sciatic which hurts to the touch. Unfortunately for whatever reason, he massaged my sciatic with such deep pressure that it still hurts. Perhaps worse than the above mentioned issues, the massage therapist's breath was terrible. While laying on my back I tried to either not breath or breath through my mouth. Nothing like bad morning breath to disturb your zen! And due to the fact that Sanctuary's policy dictates that the mandatory 20% tip is collected the moment you step through the spa door, I could not leave a tip that truly reflected the level of service rendered. Prior to the massage, I took the time to enjoy the amenities but noticed very quickly that though there were many spa attendants, the cleanliness was something to be questioned. Old wet towels left on the shower bench, someone's discarded slippers... With so many spas in The Valley, and given The Sanctuary's past reputation, I'm left not sure what to make of my experience. read more

I was really looking forward to having a nice and relaxing time. I was in the spa about to get a massage, I ordered a $25 mimosa saw that they added a $3 delivery fee (which was never mentioned to me) and an added 20% gratuity (also was not disclosed to me) which can not be lowered. I have no problem tipping, but if my drink is terrible or my service is bad I am still forced to pay this amount? if there is a mandatory gratuity then the total price of the drink should be the $25 + added gratuity. I understand businesses are jonesing for revenue but I will decide the gratuity I pay for my food and drinks, not a company. Overall this was a terrible experience. I was able to dispute the charges but they initially told me they would not refund back the gratuity unless I basically called and asked the manager. When I spoke to the manager I had to explain what tip I would've left and it just seems pathetic that anyone should have to do that. My 2nd reason why you should avoid this place is the massage was prob the 2nd worst I've ever had. I literally kept thinking "is this almost over?" They force you to pay the 20% gratuity before your service is even provided, so what incentive does the massage therapist even have to do an exceptional job?? Any time I gave the massage therapist feedback she said absolutely nothing and increased the speed of her strokes as if she was annoyed I said anything. Never asked how is that pressure? Is it better? Her nails were long enough that I could feel them in my skin which is absolutely disgusting. And last but not least when the massage was over she said NOTHING just stopped massaging me, washed her hands, grabbed my belongings and put them on top of me as I was still laying down. She then told me to come outside when I'm dressed. I've never had anyone grab my stuff and put it on top of me after a massage. I called the manager to complain about the massage therapist but have not heard back. Their customer service is truly awful. Be sure to read the fine print while booking online. Full access to the facility is not included everyday of the week. I didn't know this and went to the infinity pool and was kicked out after an hour because a hotel guest wanted my chair. The pool manager tried to be polite but really they should have mentioned it during check in or before they served my drink. Note the spa attendant directed me to that pool. So all in all the massage was great but the experience was not worth the $240. The spa area is small with showers, steam room, lockers, hot tub in one space. My 9:30 am Saturday massage had 12 other women in the locker and waiting room, it was a tight area to change in. The massage was wonderful. Michael was sure to ask if the pressure was right. I went to Sanctuary Spa on Thursday 11.30.2017 for a 5 pm massage. I felt like I had the spa to myself! I've been wanting to go here for awhile now ever since I saw them in Forbes. The spa's decor is gorgeous and modern. I definitely felt at ease as soon as I walked in the locker room. The spa was still under renovation but everything looked great to me. The steam room and Watsu pool was still undergoing construction and I was definitely bummed about not being able to steam. I bought a travelzoo because I'm a sucker for deals. The travelzoo included a hand or foot treatment during the massage and I opted for the hand. I choose the refreshing and light scent of white tea for the body butter fragrance. My therapist Gina was down to earth and professional. She knew how to handle my sensitive skin and suggested that we use unscented oil to avoid any irritation. Her touch and flow was great! When I mentioned I had a sore neck and my levator was aching she found the adhesion that was causing the pain and spent some extra time on that area. I definitely will be back when I'm in the area to try the Watsu massage and to see the finished product from the renovation. read more

I have been a client of Sanctuary for the past three years and have both brought family and friends with me for amazing spa days. We always loved using the gorgeous resort pool and would grab lunch there prior to our spa services. As of March 2017, if you go on weekends and are local (like me) and are not staying at the resort, you are relegated to the really shabby and tiny pools on the outskirts of the resort or the very functional (but not attractive) lap pool next to the gym. Sadly, we will not be going back to Sanctuary again. I've also told my female neighbors who will also not be going back. Booked a Spa day here with two of my friends when I was in town. We were there all day and loved our time there. The resort is beautiful. The spa itself was actually a bit less than what we were expecting. We thought there would be much more landscaping and much more to it than the waiting room, locker room/showers, and service rooms. Since it was two of our birthdays, they gave us a little gift of samples which was thoughtful! I had four services that day: a swedish massage, vita d facial, resurfacing pedicure, and blowout. In between the services, we lounged at the pool/in the hottub, had some lunch/drinks out there, and took advantage of the steam room. The waiting area was nice - comfortable chairs, some magazines and papers to read, coffee/tea/water, and nuts/dried fruits. I thoroughly enjoyed my swedish massage. I wish I could recall the masseuse's name, but she was great! My facial was okay - I didn't think the girl doing my facial was great and she waited until the end of my massage to tell me that the treatment would require me to stay out of the sun (on my vacation to arizona, mind you) for 72 hours. That was pretty irritating since I would have changed my facial had she told me at the beginning. One of my friends signed up for the same facial and her person gave her a heads up beforehand so they were able to change it to a more accommodating facial. The pedicure and blowout were both great. The infinity pool was great. We thought it was heated from what we were told, but it was a chillier day with less sun and the pool was pretty cold. The pool staff was great - they set up chairs and towels for us as soon as they saw us. There was only one girl taking drink and food orders for the entire pool so later in the day, service got to be very slow- but she was working as fast as she could - they should probably staff an additional person during busier hours. The Spa itself is definitely on the pricier side. You'll be paying $175+ for a massage or facial. I've paid less elsewhere and had more grounds of the spa to enjoy. However, I did have a wonderful experience overall here and since we went for a special occasion, I thought it was worth the money. read more

We went this past month during their construction phase. You can't really hear the construction unless you are looking for it because treatment rooms are away from it. The women's locker room/lounge area is now in the newly renovated men's area. Sorry guys, you have to go somewhere else on the property. The only thing weird about that was seeing the urinals after walking out of the bathroom stall. Otherwise you would never know that it wasn't built for women. The colors are muted, calm grays with hints of nature (tan woods, greens). The lines are sleek and modern. I wish that there was more of a lounge/relaxation area. I would also like to see a co-ed lounging area for spa guests. This was our second time at this spa and both times we had great massages. They are strict in their 50 Minute policy, in that the time starts ticking from when they pick you up in the waiting room. So you don't really get the full 50 minutes of massage (I wish it were 60). That's the main reason I have 4 stars instead of 5. The spa gives you access to the main pool, which is lovely. We stayed for lunch and sat on the patio overlooking the gorgeous area. Remotely complaining about anything having to do with a spa really deserves a big fat #whitegirlproblems hashtag. I realize this. That said, I do enjoy Sanctuary's spa. I've found a great therapist, Bill, who puts the "therapeutic" in "therapeutic massage". He beats the shit out of me and his Chicago accent makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. That said, I like to check in with Bill every six weeks or so because my driving-a-desk-but-highly-stressful-and-often-irritating job leaves me with my shoulders cranked up to my ears from tension. I don't go to sit in a whirlpool or so someone can soothingly rub lavender scented lotion on me, backed by some vaguely ethnic soundtrack involving a wind instrument made of a root. I go so someone strong can beat my rhomboids and trapezeii into submission. I don't need the spa experience. Now, if I wanted a truly luxurious "spa experience", I would not come here. The locker rooms are cramped. The Jacuzzi is small. The layout is a little weird and awkward. There's the whole getting a locker/changing into a robe and rubber prison slippers experience that is largely superfluous if you're like me, just popping in for a massage. There's not a ton of room to just hang out if you really wanted to piss away a day at the spa. I've been other places within the same area whose "experience" blows Sanctuary's out of the water. As lovely as the surroundings may be, the experience is lacking, and you get Real Spa Experience prices. If I hadn't found a therapist I liked, I doubt I'd be back once every couple years. But, I'm picky, so for now I'll keep trudging back to Sanctuary every now and then, until I can convince Bill to make house calls. (Bill, are you reading this? Call me!) read more

From check-in to check-out, Sanctuary Spa provides the ultimate spa experience. When it comes to my spa days, I like to choose wisely because I save my funds very carefully to treat myself to a spa experience. Because I save my pennies so carefully, I want an A+ experience at the spa I choose. Sanctuary gets an A+. I am going to be very detailed in my review, because when I'm looking for a spa I want to know every little thing about the spa. You will notice that the Sanctuary does an excellent job with the little extras that make a spa experience that much better. Setting: The Sanctuary Spa is nestled on the base of Camelback Mountain. You enter through a plush neighborhood of beautiful houses and walk past state of the art tennis courts before entering the spa. I would call this spa intimate and state of the art. Yes, I've been to bigger spas, but bigger isn't always better. I opened the doors of the spa and entered a small check-in table where the staff greeted me with smiles and charm. They had me give them my CC upon arrival so that I wouldn't have to stop by and pay on my way out if I was in spa-mode. After check-in, they led me through double doors where two more spa attendants waited to give me a tour of the locker room and key to my own locker room. Ladies Locker Room The ladies locker room has everything I look for in a spa. It has a vanity area with lotions, hair spray, shaving gels, and several other products to use while getting ready. The bathrooms are spacious and offer mouth wash and disposable tooth brushes and toothpaste for use throughout the day. The private walk-in showers are also spacious and provide shampoo, conditioner, body wash and razors. The individual lockers offer a robe, flip flops and a towel. The jacuzzi is pretty small but on the quiet day I visited, it was just the right size. The waiting room for services is intimate but again, just the right size. They have hot tea, ice cold water, almonds and dried cranberries for guests to enjoy throughout the day. The ladies locker room provides the perfect setting for a relaxing day. The Gym When I do spa days, I like to take full advantage of every amenity they offer. After all, I am paying a pretty penny so I want to get my money's worth! I tend to visit the gym first because then I feel even better going into my spa day. This gym is definitely a nice one. They offer complimentary water and Gatorade at the gym. The treadmills overlook a lap pool through large floor to ceiling windows so it's easy to day dream while you workout. The treadmills have TVS and complimentary disposable head phones just in case you forgot yours. They also have ellipticals, weights, bikes and offer a variety of fitness classes throughout the day. The Pools I would say the spa lap pool is the only downfall (in my opinion) at the Sanctuary. During my spa days, I like to enjoy a tranquil pool that's not "in the scene." I like to saunter out there before and after treatments, lay out and relax. The Sanctuary spa does offer access to their two pools, but one is a lap pool without much "spa" ambiance to it. It's more just like a workout pool with some lounge chairs. The other pool is the stunning negative edge infinity pool in the main hotel area. The pool itself can't be beat and sits against a backdrop of the desert and palm trees. It was beautiful, but it was also in the middle of the action, so it made my spa day a little more rambunctious than I was hoping for. However, the pool itself was beautiful and I've definitely seen wilder pools. Just be prepared to be in the scene if you go. The Services Now let's talk services. I will say that my two technicians might be my favorite of all my spa experiences in the Valley: Sherry especially. Sherry gave me my Sanctuary Jewel facial which is a 50 minute facial that's customized to your skin. From the moment I met Sherry, she was so incredibly nice and made me feel at ease. She's Southern and her Southern friendliness definitely was in full force! Now, getting a facial can be nerve-racking because you are letting someone examine every flaw on your face. It's important that your technician makes you feel comfortable during the facial. Not only did Sherry make me feel comfortable, but she found traits to compliment me on throughout the facial and did it in a truly genuine manner. Not only was she nice, she gave me an amazing facial! I left with my skin glowing and my confidence still intact! For that I will continue to visit Sherry for facials. I had my massage done by Tara who did such a good job, I nearly fell asleep! Now be prepared for them to try to upsell you on products before the massage. That was the only downfall, but it's not the massage therapists fault for doing what they are told to do! I didn't add any extras, but the regular Swedish massage was all I needed! read more

Worst pedicure ever. First of all, including the tip (which they pre-calculate for you and add to the bill) it's $84 for a basic "deluxe" pedicure. You have to tip & pay before you go in. The problem (other than the price) - ZERO attention to cuticles or rough skin. After staying at the Sanctuary resort for nearly a week and getting rough "pool feet", you would expect even SOME attention to the dried out cuticles. Or heels. Or just about ANYTHING other than the polish. Want the fresh look & feel of a pedi? Forget it - you won't get it here! Before my nails were even allowed a couple of minutes to dry, my sandals were put back on and I was essentially pushed out the door. Very awkward. Top 40 pop on the stereo. Ok take my review here with a grain of salt. I'm a total Spa nerd and have probably been to at least 100. That being said here we go. Massage: Very average massage. We went here on a Travelzoo day at the spa deal $99 person. The massage was quite average to bad. Its suppoed to be an hour, we got 45 mins. Of that 45 mins, 12 of them at least, were spent with the amssage therapist over at the sink doing god knows what. I asked for a Quad massage, they were never touched during the massage. Mens Locker Room: It's a gym locker room, not a SPA. It has a lot of locals hanging out and if you are into a nice quiet spa with amentities and a "spa feel" you won't find it here. The steamroom was nice, the relaxation room was an afterthought and odd, the hot tub is in a corner and completely ill placed. If you like privacy while you change, forget it. Everyone from the TV room can watch you change. Horribly designed place. POOL: The actual spa pool is big enough for 2 people to do laps, Thats about it. So we used the resort pool just up the stairs. Went there for a couple of hours hoping to get drinks, no chance. No pool service. Amentities: They had tea bags in the mens room with no hot water for it, no lemon waters or lime juices etc like most spas would have. Coffee but that was also empty. They have a jar of stale almonds in the TV room if you like that. All in all this is one of the most disappointing Spas we have been to. Which is very sad because we had heard good things. When we told the manager about our experience the reply was an offer of 25% off our next time in. WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD WE COME BACK?? Oh well. I just called the spa to set up an acupuncture appointment which their website clearly says they offer under "Asian Inspired Treatments". I had the unpleasurable experience of speaking with the clueless and condescending Alice who, #1 couldn't get my name right, and #2 proceeded to tell me they don't do online bookings or offer acupuncture. The spa attendant was one of the most friendly women I have met. After my relaxing massage I sat poolside for a munchie. My wife and I had the time of our lives at this spa retreat. I cannot even think of one complaint. If you wanted to describe what a perfect spa weekend would be like this would be it. The staff is incredibly attentive and polite, the food beyond incredible and fresh, the grounds immaculate, the views and wildlife to die for, and the room and spa spectacular in equipment and ambiance. It was our first time and I am sure we will go again after this incredible experience. It is also quite convenient that Scottsdale is literally next door, so you can be at Oldtown or the one of the malls, for instance, in just minutes. This is what a spa experience should always be like! The setting is wonderfully serene and the attendants are quite knowledgeable. I had an espresso mud treatment that was so awesome, my skin was really soft afterward and I felt almost euphoric. My friends had facials and they claimed not only relaxation but a thorough assessment from their technician. They use high quality products and they have a steam room, soaking tub and showers in the spa and a finely appointed lounge area. It was a wonderful experience. I loved it but the prices are exorbitant so don't come here on a budget. I'll be back someday. read more

I loooooove this spa!!! I went this past Sunday, for the second time ever and had such a lovely experience. My husband set me up for an hour long Swedish massage and for the Orange Blossom Royal Manicure. Both technicians I had, I believe Tara for the massage and Lana for the manicure were just amazing. Very professional and fantastic at their jobs. The spa itself is a very relaxing environment. One complaint, I am not a fan of how the locker room faces into the waiting room area, you know, for when you are getting changed?? Not very private. Love the steam room and Jacuzzi. One negative, the front desk staff messed up big time. My husband had originally booked these treatments as a surprise for my first mothers day, left his name and number for them to contact...well, since I had been there before, they didn't read the notes and called and left a voice mail to remind me of my spa treatments...which my husband had not told me about as they were to be a surprise. So he was wayyy bummed out, since it was my first mothers day and the gift had been "Ruined". I will say though that even though the surprise was ruined, I enjoyed myself very much and the spa manager stepped up and did a great job making things "right". She gave me the best massage I've ever had especially while being pregnant! ( this is my 3rd pregnancy and i have had a lot of massages.) I totally get why the celebs flock to this spa. Sanctuary spa has a boutique vibe that sweeps you off your feet and gently carries you off to the world of la-la before you even know it's happening. Without a pretentious or overly showy decor, the spa takes advantage of the gorgeous Camelback Mountain views by subtly fusing the outdoors into every corner of the architecture. My therapist was Azure and my treatment was the Luk Pra Kope, an amazing 2-hour ritual that is built around Table Thai Massage. The ritual starts with a heavenly foot soak and lime scrub and then most of the time is spent with the therapist gently stretching, rocking and kneading your muscles to open every energy flow you could possibly imagine. She used warmed herbal compresses toward the end of the treatment on various muscles and pressure points. It felt SO good. An unforgettable experience to say the least. Yes, the treatment was pricey but much cheaper than the week in Hawaii that I was craving! Make sure you get there early enough to hop in a fitness class and take a dip in the whirlpool before your treatment. Little touches like the pen, razor and toothbrush kit in your locker to the separate face and body washes in the shower, add to the experience. Even the spa attendants in the locker room were amazingly warm and accommodating. Sanctuary Spa is truly now among my favorites escapes. read more

This is another top rated spa I wanted to checkout with my mom so I booked a spa day for us on a Thursday. I got a facial and Swedish massage for her and just did a Swedish massage for myself. We got there at 9am and the front desk lady was really nice and professional. She let us know the steam sauna was out of order which totally sucked because my mom loves the steam sauna. A discount or something for the inconvenience would have been nice. The locker area is smaller than other spas and the jakoozie is a tiny section at the very back that's big enough to fit maybe three people but it's so small it's almost awkward to go in if it's occupied by someone else. They had coffee, tea, water and almonds, dried cranberries and raisins for snacks while waiting for your service. I saw a lot of attendants cleaning so it seemed like they kept up with the cleanliness of the spa. Casey gave me my massage and her hands are amazing! She has strong hands and definitely knows how to massage. My mom loved her facial but the lady that massaged her, I think her name was Sharon? Didn't massage her hard enough even when she asked for her to put a little more pressure. She said it tickled and wasn't very relaxing so that part sucked. The pool is not private to spa guests like some of the other spas are so it was pretty busy by the pool. The view was really nice and the pool is an infinity pool so it looks like there's no edge. The pool is big enough to find a section and hang. My mom and I ordered pina coladas and ordered a burger and fries to share and we got to eat it by the pool while still being in the pool which was awesome. The food tastes great and the fries were delicious and the burger was really good. The showers were nice big walk-in showers which I liked because I could shower and lotion up and hang my stuff inside the shower to change without leaving. Overall we had a really good time but I probably won't come back to this one for awhile. read more
