    Clean

Cute & clean boutique motel. Only stayed 1 night & it was comfortable enough for what we needed. Includes tiny kitchenette with some plates and a tiny closet. Restroom is clean and they provided shampoo, conditioner, body wash but no body lotion. No motel manager on site but accessible via phone so you'll need to call in at time of check-in. The town was pretty slow for memorial day weekend. Beach is not clean and beware of contamination advisories. We ended up biking around the area. Lots of businesses are going out of business due to the ongoing water contamination. So sad. Just a few miles from Coronado beach which is really nice. We are sushi lovers and we found the best sushi spot I chula vista ranch area, called Casa Nori. Yum, we highly recommend!

Im so very happy I found this little gem. I have always liked Imperial Beach, but most rooms for a weekend are out of my wheelhouse for just doing a staycation. I live in National City, but if my girl and I want to have some cocktails, we will never drive, This place is clean, centrally located, and the mgr. Is the coolest dude i have ever met. I checked the room in advance, and it was small but perfect. Microwave and referigerator, all very clean. We can wander the entire length of Imperial Beach on foot.

Beach is unsafe, it is contaminated from a sewage pipe in Tijuana just miles away.

This was my experience with the Sand Castle Inn and Suites: Arrived at 6:20PM on Friday October 13th, 2023. We check into the Sand Castle Inn and "Suites". It's across from the ocean in Imperial beach where homeless people are setting out their sleeping bags in the park across the street for the night. We are charged $10/day parking when the website says complimentary onsite parking. We get to our room, 214, which is grimy, and the bathroom baseboards show that their partial renovation is hiding nasty grime underneath. The doors and windows aren't sealed very well, and we don't feel comfortable with our 2 young children. We walk across the beach to check it out. As we walk past the homeless crowd and onto the beach, we are greeted by a warning sign, telling us to not go into the water as bacteria levels are unsafe for humans. Unfortunately I am a human, so it would be unsafe for me and my family to go to the beach. Fantastic. This all happens within 20 minutes, so we go online to see what is happening in the Imperial Beach oceanfront. This is what we discovered: "The Imperial Beach shoreline has been closed since December 28, 2022. The main stretch of Imperial Beach has been closed every day of 2023 according to Imperial Beach Mayor Paloma Aguirre. According to the San Diego Coastkeeper, bacteria levels in the water exceed health standards. The Imperial Beach Pier also failed to meet water quality standards in a sample taken on September 26, 2023." Apparently a sewage pipe in Tijuana (a few minutes away) leaked thousands of gallons of sewage into the ocean, making it unsafe to go into. Of course, the Sand Castle Inn and Suites advertises "Pristine Beaches" on their website. We go back into the lobby, and ask to check out and get a refund, but they tell us that we booked a "flexible rate", which has a 3 day cancellation policy. As if I was supposed to know that the waters were polluted with sewage? The front desk attendant, Celicia, tells me that we won't be charged for the second day. I call expedia, which tells me the refund is up to the management of Sand Castle Inn. So I call the Main phone number for the Inn and had to leave a message as there was no answer. Then I called the "after hours" phone number listed on the lobby door, as the attendant has now left at this point. Again, no answer, so I leave a message. I send a message on their website explaining the situation. I also send an email to the email address listed on the website. Crickets. We find another hotel in Mission Beach for the next 2 days. I call the Sand Castle Inn in the morning, Keno answers and said they got my message and that they would give me a refund of half the amount. I said no, I want a full refund, and he said he would have the manager call me. The manager never called. I receive an email from Epedia telling me they are only refunding me $100. I called on Monday October 16th, Celicia answers the phone and said that the manager was "busy" and not able to take my call. She would have her call me back tomorrow. Such crap. $420 for the room and parking, and they only refund me $100 for not staying at their hotel due to unsafe water? It's just their policy. The beach is apparently not on their property line. Do yourself a favor, and don't ever go to Imperial beach.

Attention to detail? A jumble of wires and even with such a mess, it didn't work.

This is an unmanaged, dilapidated motel - if I didn't get bed bugs I will be shocked! Here are just a few of the highlights: (I promise there are others) - Clumps of tangled long black hair in the "clean" towels. - Smoking is not permitted at the hotel but our room was thick with the deep odor of skunky cheap weed (from the room next door). When I asked the night staff about this they said: cigarettes are prohibited but weed is fine. - One of our two rooms had no functional light whatsoever. Pitch dark. - Bring ear plugs. You can hear every neighbor, the ranting homeless across the street and people in the courtyard until very late at night. - There isn't a trash bin in the two bedroom room. But there was plenty of trash around the property. - Our tv didn't work which we don't care about but it was painfully obvious when we saw the remote lacked a battery cover and the batteries were gone. - Do they really clean this place? Doubtful. Windows had stains of spit or white stuff. Walls were stained. Overall this is a $70 room for people who want to get drunk, high and stay up all night. TJ apparently moved north a couple miles. UPDATE: I intended to give my kids and I a break from the stress they'd endured due to Covid; we eagerly anticipated a quiet stay in a quiet little town. Instead, we literally could not sleep at this hotel. We tried, but the neighbor below us had a drunken karaoke party in their room all night. The front desk is NOT staffed after about 10pm. You can't even call them after 10. Nothing. So any unruly guests are left to do whatever they please with no adult supervision. Scream. Karaoke. Slam walls. Throw trash around. At 645am, a team of construction workers began their chaotic, noisy, fast-paced job of building structures behind this dilapidated motel. Enjoy your 4 hours of sleep! Sadly, this was the worst hotel I've stayed at in the last approx 200 hotel stays around the globe. CAVEAT: There was *one* stark contrast to the aforementioned understated but much deserved criticism: the front desk employee Cheyenne. She embodied graceful, attentive and genuinely kind customer service. Unfortunately, she wasn't working once the wheels started to fall off our stay.

The beach is right across the street!

My husband, kids, and I stayed for 3 days, two nights, and absolutely loved it! We got the deluxe double which was beautiful! I forgot to check for a bath tub to bathe my kids and luckily, it has one. We parked right in front of our room ($5 per night), and there's plenty to do within walking distance. There's a playground right across the street, the pier is a few minutes away, walking distance. We decided to stay there because the beach is right across the street, and we could see it from our room. We're 100% sure we'll be back.

The beach had been closed to swimming while we had attended. We did not see this listed anywhere on the Bonvoy Marriout Website when we made the reservation. However, it apparently there is an area on their personal hotel webpage in which you can click an external link to check area beach conditions. They had offered some breakfast coupons to utilize during our stay to compensate for the lack of ocean swimming. They did not need to, it was not their fault that the beach had been polluted by southern waste being deposited in the ocean. However, the restaurant, that was really tasty! The food was quite delicious! There is a local coffee shop next door, not too many other options that were open at the end of June while we were there for meals.

The ocean views were absolutely breathtaking, and the hot tub was the perfect place to unwind. There were also plenty of delicious food options nearby, which made the stay even better. Without a doubt, my favorite part of the trip was the rooftop Paint & Sip. Whoever came up with that idea is an absolute genius! Painting while listening to great music as the sun set over the ocean was such an incredible experience. The weather was perfect, and the entire evening was a total vibe. Our instructor, Emeli, was amazing, she made everyone feel like a true artist, no matter their skill level. We did experience a small hiccup when we first arrived due to a system glitch that wasn't the hotel's fault, but Aaliyah and the manager, Hammie, went above and beyond to take care of us and make everything right. Their kindness and excellent customer service truly stood out. From the friendly staff and great accommodations to the beautiful views and unforgettable experiences, this resort made my birthday so special. I can't wait to come back for another stay. I'd absolutely give this place a 10/10. Thank you for helping make my birthday one to remember!

I told him I preferred a quieter room away from foot traffic. He assigned me Room 215 on the second floor, facing away from the busier street. It was very quiet and although I could hear voices and the tv from the room next door, the walls were thick enough that it wasn't a bother. I also appreciated that my fellow guests were considerate with their noise levels. The room and bathroom were very clean and tidy. You could tell they just sanitized the bathroom because it smelled of bleach when I came in. They also have a water refill station, an ice machine, and a washer and dryer in case you need to do laundry. Very convenient. My first day there, I noticed a draft from the door and you could actually see the gap. That day was particularly windy, so I was worried it'd be too cold to sleep at night. Surprisingly, the room stayed relatively warm throughout my stay, despite it being chilly outside. I highly suggest dressing in warm pajamas and socks like I did though, especially if you're coming during cooler months. At one point, I couldn't shut my door because the nail came loose in the door jamb. I also realized the turntable in my microwave didn't work, so I called front desk to address these issues. I can say that every time I called front desk for help, they answered quickly and attended to my concerns without any fuss. They came and fixed my door and replaced the broken microwave with a new one. All in all, this place was a great, affordable option despite some of the setbacks. I'll definitely book here again the next time I visit. Thank you guys for having me and making my first trip to Monterey a wonderful one!

This place should be condemned! You couldn't pay me to stay here again! Metal rusted chunks in our hair from shower. Absolutely disgraceful! We have been coming here for years and will never come here again, extremely poor management now. We should be completely refunded. Tried to call about a hot water heater issue. After one night without hot water, a single technician came in the room to try to address the issue at 11:00am the next day completely high on weed, made the entire room smell entire time. Because he smelled like weed around both my kid's, I told my wife that we need to go while he's here. Took them to the peer and traveled to Oceanside. We were gone until 3:00pm. After 4hrs we came back, we needed had to use the bathroom because all the Beach bathrooms had people living right outside them we couldn't use them before we left. So, we get back to the room with my children dancing around as I put in the code to go into our room we paid $700 dollars for three days, the tech was nowhere to be found and tools covered my bathroom floor, water was off and no water in toilet to go to the bathroom. After requesting on the website to have a separate room until it's fixed to use bathroom, the lady said a technician is on the way. We had to use water bottles to fill the toilet to allow my children to pee and I had to hold mine because we used all of our water bottles to fill it. Tech came after 20 minutes after getting a number to call office because they have nobody onsite, all paperless, she said, technician will be there shortly, said sorry then hung up on my wife. Technician came after clearly just smoked a blunt and reeking of weed, after 2 hours of back and forth he said it was done. I don't care if he knew what he was doing, but all he did was make chunks metal continuously come out and clearly needed help as he turned water on and was spraying water down the wall to room below. This will create bio contamination, black mold in walls without treatment. He made the problem worse. The sink in front still will not even pour water from hot water. This was the worst vacation I've ever had, I only get one per year and will never waste it here again. I look to hold them accountable. We will be booking the Marriott caddy corner S/W from now on. For $700, you get three nights, full breakfast, ocean view, a hot tub on the beach, early check in and valet parking. We came here because previously, we were able to pay $20 to check in early, people were great, always attentive and new management has nobody at the office because they are too cheap to hire staff in office to check in, they would not allow us in until exact time and accused my wife of raising her voice at her because she was confused. We're not allowed to ask why you don't check in early? Safety Concerns: Mold in walls, blood spots of contamination on front and back of door to bathroom upon arrival, handrails directly outside room unsafe with loose hardware and could fall easily, eroded stairs on south side causing fall/trip/collapse hazard's they are not safe, light fixtures missing with wires hanging out, electric covers open to electrical shock, electric socket burnt out creating yet another electric shock hazard, mouse hole in front door, dog's barking out back all night long, towels have what looked like pee on it, water soaked walls with drywall bubbling creating possible mold. Corroded pipes spraying rusty metal on heads, chunks of rusty pipes in bathtub. Workers on drugs in front of my kids and making our room smell like weed. Pictures are attached of all, proving that I am not lying. Conclusion: What a waste of hard earned $$$$$, a year of saving for this trip to visit Sea World and see the sights. Now my kid's say they never want to come back to California. Thanks a lot Sandcastle Inn. This was an absolute nightmare. You could offer a lifetime of free stay's and I would not even consider it!

The pools were easily accessible, clean, and surrounded by many available chairs. Our room was pretty clean, and stocked with your regular amenities. My one criticism is that the customer service was a hit or miss. While at the pool, my husband and I were curious about opening hours for the pool restaurants/bars, and as we approached two staff members near the pool, they were engaged in conversation and completely ignored us for a few minutes. It almost felt like we were interrupting their conversation (which was not related to work, from what we could hear). This experience was a bit off putting considering we had just arrived to the hotel. The pool server that attended us was nice and attentive. The second off putting experience was at valet as we were leaving the hotel. The valet attendant looked frazzled and sternly told us our car would be brought out in 7-10 minutes. Our car was brought out after 30 minutes. I can understand how (especially during check out times) the wait time can be delayed for valet, and this would have been reasonable had we been told early on it would take a while before our car was brought out. The staff member who eventually brought our car out was SUPER helpful and apologetic about the whole experience. We appreciated his help very much. I would come back to the Gaylord again, but not sure if I would stay another night. I guess for the price that we paid, I sort of expected smooth and flawless customer service. We did come during the damn heat wave haha but even considering that, on a very sunny day, it's still gonna be a little hotter in the lobby. There should have been a way to provide shade if needed. I'm usually a person that runs cold as well. It didn't really bother me too much but I could see it being a problem with others. We had a drink at the bar Oeste. I do recommend the charcuterie and the drink prices are great! I should have taken a pic of this cute lil cactus chair they had in the lobby! The lobby is very pretty and I think that's what many take for granted but not me. I wish it would have been an even longer lobby space for the community.
