Such a fun lake day. We usually arrive super early to reserve a spot. This year we got a great spot under plenty of trees. Water is always a little cold but it's a cold u can get used too, the sun is extremely strong so it's refreshing definitely. The bathroom situation isn't the best, it's similar to porter potty, but it does the job. Shaved ice truck is passing through regularly so that was cool. Rented a boat for 2h and the boat ride was very soothing for me, enjoyed the views & my company. Definitely always a great family day here. Not sure what the big hype is here. This is a man made reservoir surrounded by lots of red rocks and sand. I have driven by plenty of times but never stopped. They do have a beach and offer boating rentals, fishing, swimming and off roading. It seems to be a popular place for some people, but I think I can pass on hanging out here. I prefer a genuine lake created by nature. read more

Absolutely best firework show I've ever seen. Less trash than last time, lots of lovely views and they even had food trucks. It's $35 to enter the state park per vehicle or $5 to enter per person if you're walking. We swam on the other side this time near the dock, and it was beautiful. There was red sand and it gave beach vibes as the water was a little more clearer. There were people jumping off the dock and a couple fishing too. read more

My family went on a Friday, there wasn't many people since it's a school day. It was our first time visiting and we were very pleased with all the amenities this place has. To begin, it's beautiful! The red rocks and sand is amazing! It was $30 since we aren't Utah residents but the price was worth it. At the booth we were given a map of the park which was helpful since it has info on trash cans, bathrooms, camping grounds, etc. We first climbed up the rocks to see people cliff diving, that was really fun, then we heading to take a drive to check out the entire park. We ended with getting in the water to relax and be refreshed. It isn't huge but definitely has everything one would seek for in a park. For those who want to rent boats, jet-skis, or other fun toys, they have it in the park which is convenient! The camping sites are a decent size and come with water and electric outlets. The water wasn't too cold or too hot for being the end of August, it was refreshing! The only thing I wasn't fond of was when my kids went into the water to enjoy a nice swim, while they stepped on the sand, it became black and had a bad odor coming from it. It was kind of gross, so we only allowed them to play on top of rocks that were under water. There is a picture for reference. read more

We had a great time paddle boarding and kayaking and rocking jumping at Sand Hollow State Park. The entrance fee is $20 -$25 depending on the day if the week for anyone that does not line in the date of Utah and cheaper for residents. We rented paddle boards and a tandem kayak for a little over $100 for two hours. It was our first time paddle boarding and definitely a learning curve to it. We had a ton of fun. Then went to the other side of the park to check out the different rock jumping. We stuck to the smaller one since the others were so busy. They have bathrooms and a Kona Ice truck. It was a nice day in the 80s with 78 degree water, it was perfect! read more

We visited last year for the day (booked an off road tour through a vendor) and had such a great time that we ended up buying our own toy and coming back this year to camp for a full week. The amount of trails (all levels) is amazing; staff are incredibly friendly and helpful; grounds, beach areas, and even the showers are well kept and clean; and the sites are awesome. We stayed in the Westside Campgroup (site #45) which was a back in spot with full hookups. But all the spots are legit in this campground - covered patio and table, fire pit and bbq, and plenty of room for the rig, vehicle, and toys. Everyone abides by the quiet hours and doesn't tear through the grounds at all, very different than many other places. Would definitely try the Lakeside campground next time. An added benefit of this state park is the proximity to St George which has a lot of restaurants and shops if you forgot something or need a night out; and of course national parks. read more

So Sand Hallow State Park will definitely hold special place in my heart. I can to Sand Hallow State Park for the swim course of St George Ironman 70.3. During the bike checkin able to soak in the beauty of the park. I never around lot of the park just the swim course and T1 rack our bikes. There ample parking soon as get past the gate towards the dock area. Also in the same area lots of spaces just for RV/Campers. Not sure the cost get in. Since there for Ironman both days we just past the gate. The water is great! It depends time of the year you go water temperature. I can tell u swim 1.2 miles for swim in 70.3. 61 degrees is somewhat brutal. Lol! Honestly water clean, beautiful spot OWS, and see all natural beauty around. Relaxing. read more

Called ahead to make sure the slides/trampoline were running today. I was assured they were so we drove the 30 min out to the park. Paid $20 entry fee (which is already outlandish considering TX day use is $7). Parked, and went in to ask about the slides. Was told the slide was taken out of the water because it was sinking. Facing bummed kids and a frustrated husband, I went into the park office to see about getting a refund, since we literally pulled in to the park 2 minutes earlier. They acknowledged telling me the water slides were open, but said they cannot refund my $20 because that's an entry fee for the park. WHAT?? Told them okay, well now we are driving another 20 min to get to Quail Creek (also a Utah state park), and asked if there's a way I could use my pass to get in there. They said no, it only works for Sand Hollow. So, now I'm $40 deep in Utah state park fees for the day. Avoid the hassle and just go to Quail Creek. read more

Very beautiful reservoir, good fishing and very good view. Bad side, a lot of boaters that don't have any good etiquette driving their boats. And the worst thing ever is the Frigan bugs in the water that bite you. After two days in the water, ended up with 50 bites on each leg, horrible scratching and pain. If you go here, do not go in the water unless you're swimming in the deep water, stay away from the shallows and shore water. read more

This park is SUCH a beautiful park. My friends and I booked a camp site and brought a tent to camp out for just one night. The staff at the entrance were super nice, friendly, and helpful. The lake is so refreshing, pretty, and fairly clean water. Our campsite was perfect, since it had everything we needed. Even their restrooms and showers are very well maintained. I absolutely loved everything about this campsite. It's even 20 minutes away from a shopping plaza, so if you forget anything, you can just run on out and get it. A smallish lake, an enormous amount of paving, a sliver of beach, and a $20 entrance fee make this place underwhelming. There's a huge boat ramp and small floating dock, but any power boat would make the full circuit of the lake in minutes, even at no-wake speeds. No marked hiking except for a road-ish path leading to a nearby development. The lake is filled from a large pipe coming from points unknown, and there were warnings about swimmer's itch if you chose to go in the water. The parking lot is a good quarter mile long...Utah seems to have a love-affair with asphalt, but one wonders how much cheaper admission could be if they hadn't put down that much fresh paving. There's also a fancy entry building rather than the usual guard shack. Yay for the employees. If you're land-locked in the southwestern desert and really want to go fishing? I suppose this works. It WOULD be useful for practicing with your SUP or small watercraft before traveling. This might be a good place to practice with your drone. The large campground might be attractive to others. And I didn't check out the adjacent off-road dune area. But overall, the main attraction wasn't very attractive. Considering the gorgeous landscapes all over southern Utah, visitors can spend their time & money better elsewhere. Nearby Snow Canyon, also a state park, is world-class. Skip Sand Hollow. read more

We stayed here in April in the West Side campground because we had business in town and were traveling with two dogs. Our check-in went smoothly and the site was very level with functioning hookups. Our site was not clean, so we had to clean up some paper and dog poop. The restroom was out of toilet paper on my first trip, but well-stocked after that. This park is intended for off-road vehicle use. The campground is noisy because of the parade of these vehicles that come and go, and there are no trees or anything else to muffle the noise. If that weren't bad enough, they allow a commercial shaved ice truck to drive through several times a day, blasting some truly awful music. The quiet hours were enforced, however, so at night there is just highway noise. The gate is monitored by only one staff member, so each time we returned to camp, we had to wait in line behind vehicles who were checking in and had seemingly endless questions. A second open lane for people who already had a permit on their windshield would have been nice. We waited about 5 to 10 minutes each time we came back. In summary, if you want a nature experience, do not go to this park. It features one rocky reservoir that is plagued by swimmer's itch, an insane amount of asphalt, and little else. If you enjoy driving noisy ATVs around on sand and rock, or want a cheap place to stay near St. George while you do things elsewhere, it would work for you. read more

Pretty cool location that offers many things to do. Dunes - You have a huge area to ride Rzr, Can Am, or Jeeps with some good trails. Lake - Decent size lake to bring out a boat, paddle, or just chill lakeside. RV Camping - Full hook up sites available with nice picnic areas, but no shades so it can be hot out. Staff - They seem prettt chill and nice. Its cool out here but some people can be dirty and leave trash lakeside. Its also fun watching all the trucks getting stuck and watching them getting towed out lol. Overall chill state park. read more

In A Nutshell: -Sand Hollow State Park in Utah is a decent park to check out if you want to see the sunset. -I recommend driving a 4x4 or SUV when entering to maximize full entertainment value of the off-road trails. -The lake isn't the prettiest, but if like boats + speed, then you will have fun in the lake. Follow to the Jumping Clif sign to get to this area. It has a small pocket for the little ones to play in without worrying them going off with the waves. Or just sit the water on the edges. Beautiful at sunset and not cold in the summer evening. read more

Highlights: - A great place to spend the day if you're in the area. - At the gate entry, ask them to point you to where you can jump off the rocks. Since we had a few extra days in Zion National Park, we decided to search around for interesting places to visit and see. We heard about Sand Hollow State Park and decided to check it out. WOW! This is definitely a great place to visit. It's almost like they have something for everyone. You can hang out and chill on the beach, rent some equipment to go into the water, ride dune buggies in the sand, and in one area, there are some rocks where you can jump off in the lake ( 15 feet). The only gripe about this place was that we went on a busy day and you can sorta smell the gas fumes from the boats in the water. Overall, if we're in the area next time, I would visit again. read more

Sand Hollow was listed as a an additional stop to visit if you're in the area. Red sand beaches sounded like an ideal stop after some hiking. We went later in the afternoon and seeing a line at the entrance made me think twice about entering but the parking lot was huge and even managed to get a spot pretty close to the water. I'm not sure how large the park is but even with a decent amount of cars in the lot there was plenty of space to be had by everyone. We didn't explore much but the lake was huge with plenty of space for boating, jet skis, paddle boarding and just plain old swimming. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. read more

Cyanobacteria warning while we were there, so didn't even want to put my feet in the water! Plenty of water sports activities from jet skiing, kayaking, diving, boating and paddle boarding. Water is warm and murky for a lake, but they still dive here. I was told that they've placed various artifacts in the water for divers such as sunken boats and a skeleton. Nice views and plenty of parking, $20 parking fee/day. Plenty of off roading activities as the sand dunes and paths are plentiful. read more

Beautiful but beware if you have sensitive skin. This place was gorgeous. It was amazingly spacious and everyone we met was very courteous. But now for the advisory: We went on a little day adventure from Vegas just to get away before school started. We got there about 8 am and by noon I felt really itchy. I'm allergic to the sun so once the itch became unbearable, we all got out of the water and headed back home. By the time we made it home, we were all covered in chicken pox like spots which i learned is swimmers itch. I wish I had known this was a thing before going but ultimately a week of constant, annoying itching was worth it. Also, a lot of people litter so you may see some trash in the nooks and crannies of the rocks read more

Off roading here is SOOOOOO much fun!! On our most recent road trip, we decided to rent a rock crawler 4x4 trail jeep for fun. There's no better place to do donuts and trail blazing but here. The entrance fee is $5, and you get to drive around along with other dirt bikes and 4x4's in the very fun terrain. Weeeee! There's also a very pretty lake, but since we visited in the winter time, there was no boating going on. I anticipate that the summer time would be really fun on the lake. There is a great rental spot with very reasonable prices and awesome gear. There is a $10 fee to get into the park; however, it was worth every penny --just loved it! Don't go to the lake. Paid 20 bucks to get in only to see a sign saying "swimmers itch active" 500 yards after we enter. I turned around right there and asked to get my money back because there's no sign saying there's swimmers itch there before enter. She wouldn't give my money back and said there's a sign before you enter. There isn't i checked. Also she said it's on their website. Looked on their website and you have to SEARCH to find where it says swimmers itch. She tried downplaying it so much too, saying it's just a bacteria that only people that are allergic can get. Nahhh say it like it is... that water is parasitic and so is the lady working the pay to enter station. read more

The main reason why it's a 3 and not a 5 was because it was a little misleading that you could see the lake from the RV spot. Although we were the closest to the lake, it was still a hike through terrain and across the parking lot. Once you got to the lake it was breathtaking. We looked at fishing places in the area and they said it was one of the best fishing places we did not see one fish and fish for hours, and not even one bite. The showers stayed on for about 30 seconds so you had to keep pressing it in order to get water. The garbage bins were on the way out only so we had to keep our garbage bags till we checked out. read more

I mean words can not describe the beauty of this place. Even picture do not do it any justice! We came her for a day trip to hike around and look at everything around the lake and play around in the water a bit. It was beautiful! This place is a gem and something you have to see if in the area. Our group played golf here the next day and we took a tour all around the lake with Mad Moose Rentals. It was a bit cold to swim (even though there were some cliff jumpers), we plan to come back in the summer when we hear the water is warmer! Can't wait! read more
