    Whole Belly Clams Dinner
    Kitty S.

Love this place! We have been frequenting this restaurant for years whenever we drive past Connecticut. The staff have also been friendly and the food excellent! Love love their whole belly clams and lobster rolls! So happy to have found the place has survived the pandemic.

This was a hidden gem for me I can't believe I never been here before. They have been around for a long time I hear. There is plenty of tables outside to eat ,but no inside dining yet . They have plenty of delicious menu items from burgers to seafood ,but I wanted clam strips and shrimp meals today . They come packed with fries and coleslaw and enough seafood to share. The shrimp are large and delicious. I could only eat half before I was filled up . The fries are good. The clamstrips are on the small side ,but they give you plenty of them. I can't wait to come back to try more menu items.

Lobster Roll w/ onion rings - shot 1

We stopped in on our way back from visiting friends in Rhode Island, and, boy, I'm glad we did! This no-nonsense, ma & pa-esque "fish camp" is the real deal. It's just utterly brilliant! Now, let me start by saying that this place is not going to win any interior design award, for ambiance is not what Sandbar is selling. What they are serving is really, really tasty down home fried seafood! Omg my mouth is watering thinking back on the experience!! Our choices on this visit included the fried fish, fried shrimp, fries, onion rings, and the lobster roll. And, seriously, everything we tried was on point! I will definitely be planning my next trip up that way around revisiting the Sandbar!

Very fresh seafood. And good portion too, price is a bit expensive but worth it for the amount you're getting. It was very crispy too!

Eh this place needs some updating. It's actually ugly inside and makes me think it's dirty even if it's not. The food we ordered was OK, clam chowder and chicken tender platter. The menu wasn't very cheap either and a few pieces of the chicken were rubbery and hard to chew. Fries were good though. There's just so many great options in the area that this place needs to think about how they can improve.

Food was Good. I'm giving two stars based on sanitation. No one in the kitchen had gloves on whilst touching food to put them in the containers. There was no social distancing in the kitchen. There was like six people in this tiny space. Everyone one was talking over the food whilst it was being prepared.

Bland, tasteless calamari with fries lunch special. Bonaparte

Got their lunch special which is the calamari with fries and a Birch beer drink. I had high hopes for this place as it was recommended by a former coworker. The food wasn't fresh, it was frozen, the calamari tasted bland, how can that be? It seems like they add black pepper but there were no taste what so ever! The only thing that save the meal was the drink, which is sad. The parking situation, you'll be lucky to get a spot in a small lot, so you will have to risk parking on the street if there is not spot. But the place is clean but there wasn't much of a sit in customers around when I was there for lunch, I am assuming it's more of a take out place.

I would recommended this place by somebody at work. I went in around noon and I was probably greeted. I ordered the SandBar combo. The gentleman told me it would be about 10 minutes. I paid $36 for mine. It came with flounder ,clam strips ,sea scallops and large shrimp & onion rings all fried perfection. About 10 minutes later the kind gentleman was nice enough to bring it to me in my truck. It was quite delicious I think I will be back here again.

Fish Filet platter, at the Sandbar in West Haven, CT.
    Tom D.

Stopped in for the 1st time today for lunch. Ordered the Fish Filet platter (website needs to be updated, I payed $10.95 instead of the $9.95 price listed on their page). Fish was OK, nothing special, I've had better fried fish at other local seafood places. Fries and coleslaw were also OK. With all the other seafood selections about in the area, can't see a return visit to the Sandbar.

Shrimp roll. Tasted just like it looks. Bad and old.

Shrimp roll. It tasted just like it looks; bad and old. I was excited to try this place. I'm sad it didn't hit the spot.

    Fried clams & scallops!

Doesn't look like much when you drive by. I went in anyways because I had read a great review of this place online. I wanted fried whole belly clams and a fried scallop roll. Boy were they both delicious! The clams were fat & briny with just enough breading and the scallops were done perfectly soft they almost melted in my mouth. If you want great fried seafood check this place out!

Whole bell clam and scallops- very good!! No atmosphere but worth a visit!!!

They said they could not guarantee the patio. But we were lucky to be able to sit outside anyway. The water is magical at night. More importantly, they have a very interesting bar program and delicious food. I got the new Message in a Bottle cocktail, which was clarified, so there is mango, lime, rum, orgeat, curaçao and milk... but it was as clear as an old-fashioned. Lots of flavors going on and they balanced extreme well. Very delicious, vacation-like, and sophisticated. The bread here was also delicious as well the butter and the black salt it was served with. They have a whole vegan menu, but there were also some vegetarian things on the main menu so I stick with that. The beet salad was incredible. Huge portion, and some very delicious blue cheese which was in the dressing. It was very filling and I still had some to take back to my hotel. The wild mushroom "bolognese" (meatless) was tasty too, but it had a little too much of an herb (thyme?). Otherwise the meal was so very delicious and the setting was beautiful. And this is coming from a San Diegan who is used to waterfront views and good food!

It isn't huge inside but they use the space so wisely. The kitchen is open to the bar so you can see and hear all the amazing things happening back there which really adds to the local neighborhood vibe. The bartenders there are very sweet and attentive, they help bring the whole experience there to 5 stars. I came on a Wednesday for the $17.99 lobster roll special and it was easily one of the best I've ever had. It is a quarter pound of lobster and you get actual lumps of claw and meat rather than the shredded stuff some other places serve. The butter it's sautéed in is seasoned delicately to accentuate the fresh lobster instead of covering up the taste. The portion was surprisingly large and it comes on a fresh bun that is lightly buttered and toasted. It even comes with a little cup of extra butter which I totally slathered on because I love butter! Every bite was so fresh and soft. The roll comes with fries and I did the optional $5 upcharge for the lobster bisque. That was also the best I've ever had because I've never seen bisque with such large chunks of lobster in it. It was just crazy good. Everything was well worth the price and I'd honestly come back even on days when it's not a special. They have something going on every night like the $9.99 burger and fries on Mondays, so that will definitely be my next reason to visit. I will be back for sure!

We heard about the…read morebottomless mimosa brunch here at Cast Iron Chef Chop House & Oyster Bar so we pulled up to check it out! Here's how it went... Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right on the busy State Street is this gem. There's no private parking, but plenty of comfortable, spacious street parking right out front. Once inside you're immersed in a very fine-dining, elegant, laid-back atmosphere. Lots of woods, intimate-low lighting and upbeat music. I loved the vibes in here. The first room is your bar room where the rail is off to the left, but with plenty of seating to the right. If you continue through the room you enter the main dining room where it's all booths and other tables. Service: Stacey was our server. Things got off to a bit of a rocky start, but they smoothed out throughout the brunch. Food/Drinks: The mimosa was okay... It was REALLY strong because there's orange vodka and orange liqueur in it. It kinda killed the flavor for me because I'd prefer a traditional mimosa with minimal juice, but... no matter. They're bottomless... or supposed to be... Just be mindful of who your server is. Brunch can consist of a prix-fixed menu, which is what we did so we'll be going through that. First up were the Homemade Sausage Gravy and biscuits. These were super smothered and fantastic. Hot, savory, meaty, salty and even had a bit of a subtle sweetness. The biscuit was soft, butter and had crispy edges. Next up were the Cinnamon Rolls. These were HUGE. Lol. Like, how are we supposed to eat AND drink all of this stuff?! The exterior of the roll was crispy and the inside very soft. Not over-the-top sweetness or anything. These were very balanced. Next up were the Bananas Foster Pancakes. But this thing was enormous. It was so thick, like literally an inch thick. Lol. Fresh bananas sliced right on top, it cut like butter, was soft with the perfect crispy edges and these were AMAZING. Punch of sweetness up front, fluffy texture and just a great pancake. For dinner, this restaurant usually serves Cast Iron Popcorn instead of bread, so Stacey let us try it! It was smokey, a little-little sweet with a little bit of salt and maybe a hickory barbecue flavor. I liked it. Lastly, I chose the Steak & Eggs over Salmon & Eggs, but got to try both since my wife was with me. Each comes with gigantic fried potatoes, 3 eggs, a piece of toast, caramelized onions and your protein of choice. My steak was cooked perfectly (medium-rare). The flavors were excellent. It was a little fatty and just was done very well. Value: $64.96 for bottomless mimosas and the prix-fixe menu. Probably the best value brunch in the state. SO MUCH FOOD and strong drinks. I don't know what else you'd want! In conclusion, I really enjoyed myself here and have revisited since my first time! Everything was just as awesome as the first. Check this place out if you're in the area!
