The Stranger Things VR experience isn't for the faint of heart. This game is not for the Dad's who want to beat their fit sons scores cause he will obliterate you. My wife booked this because we are fans of The Stranger Things and my oldest son wanted to celebrate his birthday here with his family. She didn't know it was like the Spider Man ride at Disneyland...Webslingers times 1000. You will find your self ducking, jumping, flinging your hands here there, everywhere and will you make you wonder if your wife did this on purpose for not letting her get the dessert she wanted. The game is about 25 minutes long. It was a full body workout for me. Parking is easy since it's in the mall. All the staff we encountered were nice. Isiah had helped my kids before and because of that great experience my oldest wanted to come back to try it out as a family for his birthday. Tell the staff that you are celebrating a birthday and something special plays at the end. If you are military there is a discount. My wife called ahead to make the reservation. Although I was physically dying of exhaustion my family had a fun time and we would do it again next time with a game that doesn't take as much physical play.

It's my birthday and my mom signed me up for this

Shout out to Isaiah again for helping our group out. I didn't catch the name of the person helping us in the beginning or the end. all the staff helping us was nice. We had such a good time last time I decided to do this on my birthday with my family. My mom booked it and got Stranger Things. She called to make the reservation, paid in person and we got military discount. Even though I didn't watch the whole thing consistently I still enjoyed it. It was a lot more physical than Deadwood Phobia since we didn't have guns. Whole family had a blast. Parking is easy since it's in the mall next to Pandas. I have been here a couple times with friends as well. Great experience as always... I will be back!

Sandbox is my go to for VR in San Diego. This was my 8th visit to this location. I have done Squid Game 2X, all 3 Deadwood Zombie, Amber Sky, Curse Of Davy Jones and this time Rebel Moon. The check in is easy and you get setup for the game pretty quickly. Everyone needs to fill out a waiver which is standard nowadays. First let me say the gear has significantly improved since this first opened. The vest used to be very large and heavy and now its so light. The rooms are large and can accommodate 6 people. I have been here for date nights, fun with friends and coworkers. The technology is awesome and each time a new one comes out it is better than the last. The shooters are the best for me and I would start with the Deadwood series. The one we just did was Rebel Moon and it was a shooter as well. I particularly liked the difficulty with this one as a lot of head shots were needed here to take down enemies. Once your finished you get videos to download of snippets of your adventure which is a nice feature at no charge. Pro tip put it somebody's birthday and don't tell them. At the end there is a funny VR birthday celebration and even funnier if the person doesn't know. We have done this a few times already.

Deadwood Phobia

I had a great first experience at Sandbox VR! Honestly, I'd been avoiding it for a while because $50 per person seemed a little steep--but I was so wrong. We played their new zombie game Deadwood Valley: Phobia, and it absolutely exceeded my expectations. The visuals were far better than I imagined. I don't have a Meta Quest 3 or PSVR at home, so I can't compare directly, but the immersion was top-tier. Zombies come at you from all directions--full 360--so you really have to stay on your toes. My heart was racing the entire time. The vibrating vest adds a whole other level of realism when you're getting attacked. Our experience coordinator, Vi, was awesome. She was super friendly and explained everything clearly. We arrived about 20 minutes early (which I definitely recommend) so we could check in on the iPad and get briefed before jumping in. Just a heads up--they do mention on the receipt that your reservation could be canceled if you're more than 5 minutes late. Afterward, you get a fun highlight video included in the price. We downloaded it to our phones and it had us cracking up--definitely a great memory to share with friends and family. The only downside for me is the price. $50 per person for a 30-minute experience can add up fast, especially for families. A family of four would be looking at $200+, which could be a lot for some for such a short activity. That said, I'd totally do it again--especially on a random weekday morning like we did. We had the whole room to ourselves and didn't need to pay extra for a private session. Highly recommend giving it a try!

Unfortunately I'm 2nd to last

My first time at Sandbox today and Vi was our associate. She was super amazing and gave us detailed instructions on how to navigate the VR platform. We had a group of 6 playing Squid Games and it was extremely fun! Red light green light had me rolling!! It was hilarious! The games aren't what you see in the actual show and Sandbox is owned by a Chinese company. So the games can be played in any other language except for Korean! weird right? I think I would definitely return to play another game! I love shooting games and it looks fun! Sadly, I didn't win today but there are so many other chances to play and get the opportunity to carry the team! LOL I highly suggest Sandbox if this is your first time trying VR Games!

Tried VR for the first time with the Squid Game experience. When it is your groups turn, they have you strap on devices to your ankles and wrists. You also take photos that will be incorporated into a video review at the end of the game. Once you are in the room, you can store personal belongings in their ottoman and their staff will start helping you with your vest and headset. Instructions are given, then the game begins. Pros: -you get to choose your own avatar -the staff that spoke with our group was friendly -I usually get motion sickness but luckily this experience did not have a negative effect on me -the games are actually fun. It involves some movement but as someone who is out of shape, I wasn't out of breath or anything -I'm a plus sized girl and was pleasantly surprised that their vest still fit me. Cons: -the restrooms were a bit disgusting. Toilets were not flushing, it seemed like urine was on the walls, etc. -my friends had issues with their avatar where their arms and legs weren't registering properly. However when they used the safe word for help (pineapple), no one came to help them with the issue. This had impacts on what they could score/complete in the game. Other: -there was another group directly before us that were doing a different virtual experience where they were running around and shooting at things. They came out drenched in sweat. It seems like their method of cleaning between groups is putting their items that they wore in a pile and spraying it.

Ready to start the game

Sandbox VR in San Diego is next-level fun and completely immersive. We booked the Deadwood Phobia experience for a group of four, and from start to finish, it was wild. The gear is high-tech. You can actually feel the gunshots through the vest, and don't be surprised if you break a sweat. It feels more like a workout than a game, especially with all the moving, ducking, and shooting. Thankfully, fans kick on during the experience to help cool you down, but you'll still leave drenched and smiling. We celebrated a birthday, and at the end of the game, they surprised us with a fun video presentation that made the whole thing even more memorable. If you're bringing friends or family to watch, there's a small bench in the game room and a couple of spots on the floor where spectators can sit and enjoy the action. There's also a small TV screen showing what the players are seeing, which is a nice touch for anyone not playing. At the end of the game, they offer the players a free water bottle to cool off. If you're looking for something unique, active, and ridiculously fun, Sandbox VR is worth checking out. Just come ready to move, laugh, and sweat.

I get to the counter and see 3 or 4 workers just standing there talking, no one acknowledges me. I look around some more and see one worker on the far left helping some customers and another worker on the far right helping some other people. Ok, I'm assuming there's two lines and the 3 or 4 other employees are just taking a break or something. Not a big deal, so i get in the line to the far right. There is one person currently being helped, two teens and then me. The employee finishes with the first customer and then helps the two teens. He finishes with them and when he gets to me he just turns and walks away. He does not say a word, just turns and walks away. A simple "I'll be back in a minute" or even just putting your hand up and saying "gimme a sec" would be totally fine. Instead, no communication, just walks away. I told the group of 3 or 4 people just standing there that I needed assistance and one of them went to refill my card. As i was waiting the guy who was serving the line on the far left came over and asked if I needed help. He was really friendly (he looked Asian or Mexican). Anyways, he's the only reason I'm giving that place two stars instead of one.

And just FYI, I a lot of people kept leaving the park upset. But for them, they didn't purchase wristbands. We waited till after 5 PM hoping that as the shift changed employees would come and open up all of the rides, but that never happened. I was hoping to get my money back for the wristband, but because the employee at the counter was so aggressive I was honestly afraid to go up and ask for a refund. I'm hoping Belmont Park will make this right and provide my daughter and I with an opportunity to return to Belmont Park at no charge to us and be able to get on the rides.
