This ski area has a lot of great runs for beginning/intermediate skiers and snowboarders. The blues are on the easier side and there aren't a lot of black runs but the few they have are really short. The lifts are slow and lines can get unruly, but once you make it to the top you can take a long run down to the bottom or ski halfway down and take another lift back up. Parking is lacking and unorganized. We ended parking on the road past the actual ski area and were excited that they had a "shuttle" (trailer on back of a pick up truck) to take us to the ticket booth. I was really disappoint though at the end of the day when this shuttle wouldn't take us past the second lot and we had to walk up the side of the skinny road back to our car. Some excuse was muttered as we got off that they can't go that far after a certain time... The coolest thing is that you can pay a little extra on a lift ticket (I heard 10$) and you take can take the tram up to the top of the mountain from town and back when you're done instead of having to drive around the mountain. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me. We had an abnormal experience (I hope) considering trees fell on power lines and at first 2 of the 4 lifts were down. Later power went out from the other two and they had to close completely. When there were just two lifts running some employee was attempting to organize the line of people waiting to get on lift 1 by rudely yelling at everyone. Yelling that we were supposed to be no more than six wide and that he didn't know what we were doing. When someone commented to him that they should extend the ropes that divided the crowd into lines that they had at the front, he snapped that there was no more rope so we just have to figure it out. Also, most ski areas will have single rider lines to make chairs full and running efficiently, but anytime a single rider go to the front they had to stand to the side and call out for other single riders - they should've made a line for that but as I wasn't alone I didn't care too much. We got stuck on the lift with the second outage, but ski patrol was really nice. After it started up a while later they said we could have free hot chocolate for sticking it out, but unfortunately the power was out at the base too. However, we were freezing and asked the woman working the ski shop if we could get hand warmers instead since there was no power, and she went out of her way to make sure we got them which I & my frozen fingers really REALLY appreciated. Long story short- it's fine for something close to town but there is nothing that's fantastic about it. Not the most organized place but just to get a couple runs in it was fine.

    Beautiful background.

This was an awesome experience to ride the 2nd longest tram in the world up to the top!…read more First of all, the day we rode was the 60th annual celebration of the tram. Thus, our tickets were all 50% off. We found out we'd be riding the third generation. It's been so long since I last visited the tram that I probably rode the second generation. It's roomy! Even with the 60th celebration, our wait wasn't extremely long. I believe there are about 30 people on each ride, but I didn't count. I was hoping I didn't feel crammed and it wasn't too bad. Once you're up there, it's amazing to be so far above the ground. On the way up, our 'captain' gave us a bit of trivia about the area, the tram, and our trip up. At some point, you'll pass the other tram coming down, which gives you an idea of how fast you're really going! Wow. Once at the top, it's about 10 degrees cooler. Bring a light jacket or sweatshirt. You can choose to hike a trail that begins on the back side of the restaurant. You'll see the ski lifts and options for different hikes. OR, you can grab a drink from the Ten 3 restaurant and check out the views. We put our name on the list to eat and sipped on cocktails during the wait. It was nice and relaxing up there at the top! We ate at Ten 3 (our wait was 30 minutes) then made our way down. Our guide on the way down didn't say a word, but I suppose it's the same as the way up. There's only one bench on the tram so if you have trouble standing make sure you let it be known. My mom sat going and coming. When you're back at the bottom there's another restaurant if you'd like to eat there instead. They also have a gift shop with some Sandia Tramway, and Albuquerque memorabilia. It's a cute shop. I bought a few items. It's a nice trip. I've ridden before, but it's been so long I don't even remember. Check it out.

But my colleague who traveled from California with me was down to try it so I mustered up the courage to do it. Wow! What an amazing experience this was. We started out at 6,519 ft elevation and the gondola took us to the very top of Sandia Peak at 10,378 ft. That's a 3,859 feet climb in 15 minutes! The view of Albuquerque from the top is stunning. Along the ride you see granite rocks embedded into the mountain sides which are just spectacular. The gondala felt safe is accompanied by a tour guide who explains details along the ride. I'm really proud I did it and conquered my fear!

Despite selling the resort, the Los Alamos Ski Club maintains strong ties to the mountain and club members actively volunteer for trail clearing and forest maintenance. Despite the long and winding trip up the Mountain, Gayle and I enjoyed the scenery as we drove up the parking lot to take a look. It no longer looks like the family-run operation of years past, but it remains formable and maybe worth a special winter trip to check it out again.

Started at the rentals, they already had my skis and poles out and labelled, went up and got my boots, made a quick exchange for a size up- ski boots are hard to put on! Then rented a locker for our shoes (which when we came back proved to be unnecessary since everyone just leaves their shoes on the ground) Walked over to the lesson area and got placed in a group of beginners based on our zero skill level. They had a few other groups for those with more experience. We went through a ton of drills- one foot in, then the other, then will both. Worked on pizza/French fry positioning, wedge turns and horizontal climbs. Then headed to the magic carpet- would have been nice to be told what to expect when exiting - just stay loose and upright and walk out when off the belt. With 30 mins left of the lesson, I asked if we were going to go up the beginners lift, the instructor was psyched to take the three of us older kids The instructor slowed the lift for getting on and off to make it easier. Then taught us how to use the wedge turns to navigate down the mountain. Had a great time and feeling super accomplished! Couple notes- I bought ski pants/bib thing, went with a few layers on top with a rain jacket over, good gloves and regular sunglasses. Felt very comfortable and warm and happy I didn't spend any more on gear. For the food, you'll be better off bringing your own cooler. You can eat outside food in the lodge and they don't have alcohol, so if you're looking for a midday beer, you should bring some with you. I should have just got the beginner lift tickets, I wasn't ready after one lesson for anything else Overall great day and would totally come back!

The property itself is beautiful and expansive, sits on Tamayame land, and at the outset of the conference a member of the Native American tribe welcomed us and shared about the land and setting. The property has with multiple event spaces, an on-site trail, a large gym, and several pools. It is a fairly large resort (our room was at one end, so it was about a 7-10 minute walk to the main lobby area). Each day began with a large breakfast buffet, and lunch was similarly well done. One of the highlights was being able to sit outside during meals at large tables overlooking the grounds, mountains, trees, and fresh air made for a really peaceful setting. For breakfast, I enjoyed the red/green chilies chilaquiles (New Mexican style breakfast), it was very flavorful and I enjoyed trying but was very spicy/heavy. From a conference and events perspective, the resort is very impressive. There is a large main conference room with a stage, and the room can accommodate over 100 people (at round tables), along with many smaller breakout rooms. Over two evenings, we attended events at different venues on the property, one about a 10-minute walk away (with hotel mini-bus transportation available), and another closer to the main area under a tent. The more distant venue was quite large and set apart, likely used for weddings and larger celebrations. That evening included a buffet dinner, DJ, dancing, and multiple bar setups. The second evening closer to the main hotel was a seated dinner under a tent, with music and performances in a more contained setting. There is also a nice bar and restaurant in the lobby, as well as another more casual restaurant by the pool. Given time constraints, I was not able to fully take advantage of all the amenities (including the spa, horseback riding, and longer trail walks), but I would absolutely recommend this property. It is incredibly scenic, serene, and feels immersed in nature, and I would gladly return.

We booked one of the cabin duplexes, which turned out to be extremely outdated. The space had a very old, dingy smell, and there were several cleanliness issues--some areas were noticeably dirty and there were no tissues provided. The heater didn't work, which made the colder summer nights uncomfortable, and to make matters worse, one of the bathroom windows wouldn't fully close. It definitely has rustic charm and potential, but the accommodations could really use some updates and better upkeep. For what we paid, it was definitely not worth the price. With a few improvements, it could be a much more enjoyable stay.

After about 20-30 minutes of waiting, they finally came to the conclusion it did not work. After we had told that already. Their solution to the problem was to purchase another one, full price. We were not given another for free, and they did not allow us to place our belongings anywhere, for safe keeping, in a backroom or side area. So our only choices were to leave our stuff in the car or purchase another locker. Aside from this the conditions were terrible, though that could be placed on the weather. With not many trails open, and riding got pretty repetitive very quickly.
