Update to review below in response to business owner comment: Review was not in error. Appraisal was done in April 2016 and has Sandra L Pike and Piedmont Ave business address on it. You did not show care in the remarks you made. Trying to claim I made an error rather than apologizing for your words is even worse. Several years ago my wife died unexpectedly of sudden cardiac arrest related to a genetic condition. We were not even 40 years old yet. I inherited the house and had to get a date of death appraisal for tax filing purposes. This appraiser Sandra told me I was "lucky" that my wife died because I inherited the house. I understand there are awkward things people tell you when you lose a loved one because they don't know what to say. But what she said was completely inappropriate, disrespectful, and insensitive. There are things that are more important than money and, if I had the choice, I would of course give up the house if it meant I could get my wife back. I didn't say anything to the appraiser at the time because I had too many other things to deal with. Reflecting on it now, it was really messed up what she said. She never thought about it later and apologized. I recommend using an appraiser who has some basic human compassion and sensitivity. read more

Sandy Pike is an excellent communicator and an incredibly thorough appraiser. I bought a North Oakland fixer house with an FHA 203K fixer loan. I needed the home appraised as-is and estimated as-completed value. She is FHA approved by HUD. She went all out with a map of similar properties and photos of interior. She is very fast. Then my lender took 60 days to approve and decided they were going to make me do a new appraisal since home values might ave changed. Sandy put the same effort in again. This time though it was a rush, she was on vacation without her computer. I emailed her documents and she did much of it on-line. Then put it together on the day she got back and sent it to my lender. I interviewed 4 appraisers before choosing Sandy. I am SO happy that I made the right choice. Sadly, I have had more experience with appraisers than I would like. Initially, I used the appraiser recommended by my bank. It was a disaster. Then, I looked on Yelp for reviews and found Sandra Pike & Associates. I'm glad I did. Sandra's appraisal wasn't super speedy. We ordered it on June 2nd, it was sent to the mortgage company on June 12th. But it wasn't exceptionally slow either. I've been told that 2 weeks is "standard", and it took less than 2 weeks. Sandra's price wasn't cheap. Of the four appraisers I have used in Oakland (and one I used in Santa Cruz County), this was the most expensive (by about $75). In the grand scheme of things, when buying a house in the bay area, $75 isn't that much - but it still hurt. Even though she was more expensive, I still recommend her. Sandra's report was accurate and complete (which is more than I can say for some of the others). It was well documented. It was thorough. In fact, it was everything you would hope your appraisal could be (except maybe cheap). I had an earlier sale fall through because of a sloppy (and inaccurate) appraisal. Sandra Pike is an outstanding professional. She reviewed all the details of my property measurement etc. and prepared comps for my area. She assembled photographs to highlight the details. She is so thorough she searched to find exact matches to all the details of my property which were quite complicated. She provided more than the normal 3 comps to give a detailed analysis of a potential sales price. Her extensive knowledge of the bay area neighborhoods made her comps extremely accurate.
