The surgery was scary to say the least but we cannot speak highly enough about Dr. Hostin. The surgery went as expected, (Better than we expected), and my husband is recovering. Before surgery the pain would bring him to his knees after standing up for 5-10 minutes. He was up and walking within 24 hours (baby steps of course). Last night we went on a 30 minute walk and other than still recovering from the slight pain from the incisions he feels amazing. Absolutely NO back/sciatic pain that he has been experiencing for the last several years. If you are considering any type of back surgery. Dr. Hostin is your guy! Also, the nurses and staff at Medical City were incredible. They took wonderful care of him at all times. Dr. Hostin changed my husbands life and we are forever grateful. Unfortunately, my experience with the office staff and overall communication has become increasingly disappointing over the past few years. I am not someone who typically leaves negative reviews, and I have overlooked previous issues because of how much I respect and appreciate Dr. Okoro. However, there comes a point when repeated poor communication and a lack of consideration for a patient's time can no longer be overlooked. Today was ultimately that point for me. I had a virtual appointment scheduled for 11:20 a.m. By 11:30, I had received no link or communication, so I reached out to the office myself. I was told that Dr. Okoro was running behind, which I completely understood. Doctors run behind, emergencies happen, and schedules change. My issue was not the delay--it was the lack of communication that followed. I continued waiting with no link and no proactive update from the office. By after 12:00 p.m., I still had not received anything. Had I not contacted the office myself, I have no idea how long I would have continued waiting. I was eventually contacted about changing my appointment, but at that point I chose to cancel. I have a professional schedule, meetings, responsibilities, and commitments just like everyone else. A patient's time should be respected as well. What makes this especially disappointing is that this was not an isolated incident. I have experienced similar communication and scheduling issues before, and even people I have referred to the practice have expressed similar concerns. When I first became a patient years ago, the office was smaller and the communication was excellent. I cannot speak to what has changed operationally, whether it is scheduling, staffing, or patient volume, but the difference has been noticeable. After several years of trying to overlook these issues because I genuinely love my doctor, I have finally made the difficult decision to find a new primary care physician. That is unfortunate because Dr. Okoro is truly a wonderful doctor, and leaving her care is not something I wanted to do. I would still highly recommend Dr. Okoro based on her ability, bedside manner, and the care she personally provides. However, prospective patients should be mindful that communication and scheduling consistency with the office staff have been an ongoing concern in my experience. I have a hard time finding doctors I love. I have a certain chronic condition that makes finding…read moredoctors who listen and are willing to help a challenge. In particular it makes me have some orthopedic issues. Dr Humeniuk was recommended by my geneticist. He listens better than 98% of doctors I have met. He is incredibly thorough. His office staff is caring and they seem quite happy working there. I appreciate all the extra time he spends with me because his insights have been invaluable in understanding the big picture of what I have going on. He's even given me some great ideas for non-surgical interventions and not-orthopedic issues (such as doctors to see and things to talk to my other current specialists about). I belong to an online support group for people with my chronic genetic condition. In that group we have what we call "the good Dr list". I suggested adding him to it recently and when I did, at least a dozen other members piped up to say that they see him and that he is phenomenal. One of them called him "the unicorn" of doctors. We usually talk pretty frankly about bad experiences and we rarely all agree on an overall good experience with a doctor. There's almost always someone who has had a poor experience in our group, but no one had with Dr. Humeniuk. That says a ton about his focus on his patients, especially considering we are people who see a lot of different doctors. I appreciate his commitment to my health and helping me see and understand my own health from his perspective. His staff is kind and happy and I can see that he treats them very well. Sometimes you do wait a short while to see him (15-25 minutes). I've had specialists who expect me to wait 4 hours or more, so that's nothing to me. I suppose if you expect to be seen exactly at your appointment time, try someone else but that's not something that bothers me. His skill and willingness to listen and help me understand more than makes up for any short wait.

I had a recent MRI which showed severe arthritis but he looked at it more closely and realized my pain was something else and I was pain free within 2 days. He also took the time to listen to all my complaints and ran some blood tests and discovered an illness that no other doctor has been able to find. It would have been easy for him to just see the MRI results and move on, but because he did not I am finally able to have answers for all my chronic issues. I will be forever grateful for him. Melayna runs the office so smoothly; we didn't have to wait to see the doctor nor on our next visit to visit Melanie, the nutritionist. She too was impressive and gave us great info including recommendations that were pretty simple to implement right away. It was expensive because she doesn't do insurance but, frankly, Western medicine is doing nothing to help us get healthy, just keeping us medicated!
