First off parking was quite easy. The feel of a small town friendliness is evident here at Sandstone. It has a simple atmosphere /decor that doesn't distract you from looking out the street side window's. The menu gave more choices tempting me to try more the next time I come back. Today I was in a hurry.... So, I ordered my coffee and water which was served fast. I couldn't even get my coffee to half way a they will filling it back up with room for my creamer. I ordered an omelette with bacon and cheese with biscuits and Gravy. This didn't disappoint me!! The menu stated 3 egg omelette, I think it was 4 eggs, at least 3-4 diced up bacon strips and cheese. The biscuits and gravy was perfect. The biscuits were fresh, not these packaged biscuits and cheap gravy mix. The perfectly season gravy had light pepper and ground sausage. I'm coming back. Had to drop off an item with a customer and discovered downtown Tenino. It was early, but at least Sandstone was open and already serving the locals. We seated ourselves and our waitress took our order and in no time we had our coffee, Sis got her burger steak breakfast and me my bacon and eggs. Right now I'm doing keto so I appreciated finding a place to eat. They have high ceilings and stone walls so you know this place has history. The place looks intriguing from the outside. I was in town to visit an art show next door... On Sunday, March 16th 2025. I wanted to take my daughter out for a nice meal, so we thought we would try the Sandstone Cafe. I couldn't have been more disappointed. The food was terrible!!!. I had what was called Huevos rancheros. This is not how you make huevos rancheros it was unrecognizable. There had to be one egg, I saw four beans, literally four beans. Bits of corn. The avocado was old and rotten. A hard tortilla shell, instead of real tortillas.. Huevos ranchero is made with sauces, cheeses, eggs.. The hash browns were cold and burned. This was for $15.99. there wasn't even $0.50 worth of food there. Businesses need to get real with their portions and their prices. Or you're not going to have any customers coming back. My daughter had a burger and fries which couldn't have been more lackluster plopped on a plate with nothing different than any other place that you would go.Why are you in business if you are not doing anything special. It looked terrible and the fries were cold and floppy like they had been in the freezer. I was looking at other people's portions. Tiny little portions of food for these tremendously high prices. You're going to have to figure this out because I'm not coming back, When I can make better for a heck of a lot less. That egg dish was absolutely the worst I've ever had in my life. I've never seen anything like it. You need to give us real tortillas. Look up the the recipe for Huevos. You need to give three or four eggs, not one. That was absolutely disgusting. I didn't even have any meat. Portion size needs to be bigger if you're going to charge $15.99 for a breakfast? I'm starving to death like an hour later. Unless you want to be hungry do not go here. Was excited to go out for breakfast yesterday To the Sandstone Cafe. My husband and I both love the place. The food has always been over the top. Not yesterday! We order the same thing... Chicken Fried Steak, hash browns, eggs and English muffins. YUMMY! When it arrived on our table we were excited. After looking around on the plate it looked good. NOT! Looks were very deceiving. The chicken fried steak was over cooked so it was dried out. The gravy was overly salted. Hash browns were under cooked and white. English muffins were burnt. But, the basted eggs were perfect. Do not sleep on the prime rib special, or really anything that the Sandstone & Quarry bar has to offer. The drinks are always unique, usually low to no sugar, the service is prompt and the staff are friendly and accommodating. The owners are often around making sure everyone is happy. My friends and I stopped in here for breakfast as we were passing through the town. We were pleasantly surprised at how great this decision was! The menu was expansive and there were so many good choices, that it was hard to decide. I settled on biscuits and gravy and boy was I happy I did. Delicious flakey biscuits smothered in sausage filled creamy gravy like my grandma used to make. Portions were great and prices were decent (everything is so expensive these days). Our server was attentive, friendly, and efficient. Everyone loved their meals. The place is very quaint and clean. Growing up in a small town like Tenino, I remember the cafe as a center of the town where locals meet for coffee, meals and conversation. The Sandstone fits that role perfectly. But not to feel, as an outsider, you will be unwelcomed. The Sandstone has great service and a warm feel shown equally to locals and all. After a morning of photographing in the area, I stopped here for breakfast. A cafe breakfast in a non-franchise place is one of my all-time favorite meals. I had eggs and hashbrowns. Both done to perfection! There are lots of other choices on the breakfast menu too (for another visit!). The Sandstone is not a place for those in a hurry. This place is hoppin' ! And I also recall, small towns do move at a more civilized pace. So sit back and relax! Worth the wait. Four stars for now (as this is my first visit). A "five" will likely follow! read more

Sandstone Cafe is okay, just okay! The decor is super cute and we wanted to love it but there were a few issues that made it just okay. Service was adequate, order taken and food brought out, nothing real friendly or welcoming. It wasn't bad, just wasn't special or memorable in any way. The food was okay but again, underwhelming and lacking. I got the club sandwich, which was good but very small. Normally I can only eat half of one, this time I ate the whole thing along with some of the fries. The fries were a mixture of cold fries and hot fries, weird!! I just picked out the hot ones knowing I wouldn't be able to finish them anyway. Hubby's breakfast was also super small and the hash browns were luke warm and undercooked. My husband & I shared a prime rib dinner tonight, and it was one of the most flavorful, generous cut of prime rib we've had the pleasure of experiencing. Tender & juicy! We chose a loaded baked potato, & the dinner included delicious roasted carrots & fresh green beans, along with a warm French roll, with the prime rib accompanied by 3 large, sauteed prawns, (the best I've ever tasted!) Service was friendly & efficient. I highly recommend this wonderful local cafe. Just a little tidbit to add, their chicken fried steak breakfast is also delicious, as well as their lunch fare. This was a great cafe that I hit up before a wedding for lunch. They were busy, busy, busy with a huge order ahead of this so there was a lot of waiting. I won't fault the cafe for the order because getting a big order isn't your fault, but you should be prepared. The food was very much like diner food. The interior was nice- comfortable with a lot of tables, and there is even a second room that they use across from the hall for overflow. A nice experience. If you're looking for quality food served by good people, this is a great place to check out! I took my folks here around 7:45am on a Saturday and there were only a half dozen other customers but by the time we left an hour later it had gotten quite busy. I got myself the BS Scramble which was scrambled eggs with bacon, sausage, ham, green peppers and cheddar cheese, a biscuit, and cottage cheese as a substitute for hash browns. I also got their Stuffed French Toast because the description looked fantastic. Mom got the Ribeye Steak Scramble/hash while dad got the tried and true Bacon & Eggs with Hash browns and toast. I really enjoyed my scramble, especially the various meats mixed in. The biscuit was soft and a generous spread of jam on top made it taste even better. I appreciate them letting me sub out hash browns for cottage cheese at no additional charge as other cafes like to charge extra for that sort of thing. The Stuffed French Toast caught my eye because of the vanilla cream cheese stuffed inside with the strawberries and whip cream on top so of course I had to try it! I have to admit though, even if I got a bite right in the middle with a large amount of cream cheese, it didn't seem to elevate the french toast/make it more enjoyable to eat. But it only took a few bites for me to realize how much I loved the strawberries and its liquid saturating the bread, and that delicious combination more than made up for the lackluster feeling of the cream cheese. I found myself cutting a piece and swirling it around the strawberry juices and then adding a strawberry on top for as many bites as I could and that was insanely delicious! So the cream cheese aspect wasn't anything special but the strawberries were a wonderful addition! I tried a few bites of mom's dish and that was also tasty! The pieces of Ribeye Steak were nice and tender and I actually really loved the cubed potatoes/hash aspect of the dish and prefer those kind of potatoes over the shredded hash browns. But both mom and dad enjoyed their meals and ate everything as well! The staff was kind and eager to help if we had any questions. The food came out in a timely manner and was cooked as it should be(nothing over or under done). The serving sizes were just right - not too small where you would leave still hungry but not too big where it's impossible to finish. Overall I had a good experience here and we all had a great tasting breakfast! If you find yourself in the area I would recommend stopping in for some hearty homestyle food. read more

We stopped here on our way down to the Oregon Coast - what a great surprise! The food is fresh and well prepared, the restaurant is charming, and the service is friendly and efficient. I ordered the bacon feta spinach tomato and cheddar omelette. All the ingredients were fresh, including the spinach, and the omelette just the right size. Hash browns were crispy and not greasy. My husband ordered the polish sausage breakfast with eggs over medium - his was done perfectly. My daughters got the BLT and the silver dollar pancakes. Everything was great. And the coffee, although weak, was tasty and fresh. The food took a little while longer than what we expected, but it was worth the wait, and clearly a lot of care was put into the preparation of it. Normally when we take a chance on a new place when we are heading out of town, our expectations are very low, but this time we hit the jackpot. Keep up the good work, Sandstone Cafe!
