I have been wanting to go here forever as I am a huge lover of grits. I've tried grits in many restaurant across the country and I have to say that the grits here are some of the best that I've ever had. I got the berry lemonade and shrimp and grits with a biscuit and poached eggs while my boyfriend got the breakfast sammie. I love that they have fresh pastries, jam and house made sourdough and biscuits available. I find out from my boyfriend that the ice cream shop next door is opened by the same owners here so I know it'll be amazing. The interior here is gorgeous and the restroom was equally beautiful, probably the prettiest bathroom that I've seen at a standalone restaurant. The employees here are friendly and professional. They checked in on us periodically and refilled our waters. The food didn't take too long to get to us and I was so excited as the food looked amazing. The grits were seasoned to perfection. The eggs were cooked perfectly and went well with the dish. The house made biscuit was also delightful and paired well with their jam. My boyfriend was big fan of the sausage and I am too as it was seasoned perfectly and huge. The hash browns were a good texture too. I went here looking for the old restaurant and found this was a nice breakfast spot! I was treated well right when I walked in and I was seated. I was provided with water and my drink quickly. I looked up some pictures on the menu prior to ordering and I believe I got the chicken fried steak which was amazing. Good bacon, hashbrowns and eggs were how I asked for and the pancake was good with the syrup. The sour dough was super good with the raspberry jam! Definitely would come back when I come back to Yelm. read more

The disappointment is real. I really wanted to love this place. But I just can't. I lived in the South for many years and miss ordering grits in restaurants. I thought this place would finally be the answer but it's not. I don't know what these were but they are not Southern grits. They are dense and gummy with a texture similar to bread pudding rather than creamy and spoonable. Maybe these grits were warmed up from the day before? The seasoning was non existent. I also ordered avocado toast and holy crap, I have never been served anything worse. There was possibly a thin schmear of mashed avocado on way under toasted bread. I did see something slightly greenish so I guess that was it. Again no seasoning. This was then covered in sliced avocados drenched in oil from the "vinaigrette" on the arugula topping. I ate two bites and left the rest. You would think the server would inquire about why it was untouched, but no. Crickets. Not even an offer to remedy it. My three companions did not enjoy their meals either. Food under seasoned, weird clumps of grits, minuscule pieces of pork belly. Bummer. The former restaurant in this space was quite good and worth driving to Yelm for. This is not a go-back. read more

We stopped by Gritz n Gravy for brunch on a warm sunny morning. The restaurant itself is bright, clean and spacious with modern decorations and plenty of seating. The service was friendly and welcoming. There was a bit of a wait from the busy brunch rush but the meal was well worth it. The stand out was definitely their delicious biscuits. Didn't try the Grits, but the Biscuit and Gravy was the best I've had in a long time. Biscuits looked as if they was going to be hard, but nice and soft. Only off putting was the County Potatoes were crispy as I love them, but smelled as if they put some sort of Garlic on them. I still ate all of them. Be prepared to wait 15-20 min. 2nd time coming here! I love the greenery inside and the staff all seem very relaxed. Came here to take myself out for a Lil me time. It was still breakfast time so going in the idea was breakfast foods only. I had a craving for something different too. I saw on the menu they have a "smoked salmon omelet". So that's what I chose with hash browns, and a side of sourdough (because if they say they have fresh sourdough, you get their sourdough!) The plate came to me in a decent time. Omelet covered with capers, I was excited. The waitress was very friendly and offered other things like different sauce and maybe more napkins if I wanted. My only thing that I didn't like as much was the combination of it all. The smoked salmon (delicious), the omelet (delicious by itself) together not so much. It was too salty combined. But, putting it between the sourdough made it better. Like a good corned beef sandwich, you have the saltiness of the meat and the balance is the bread and sauce with it. If they made that into a sandwich I think it would sell better! Either way the food was decent. I'll come by again! Thanks for being part of the town! read more

The food was okay but nothing special. The ceiling fans were raining down dust bunnies on customers and the food. When I pointed it out, the server said, it's been like that for a while and we keep telling the owner. Yikes! When it's dirty in the places customers can see, it makes me nervous about the cleanliness where we can't see. read more

The restaurant itself is beautifully unique an old firehouse transformed into a charming, cozy brunch spot with an amazing aesthetic and so much character. Every detail adds to the experience. And the food? Absolutely fantastic. Their brunch specials were outstanding, and everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and memorable. I've eaten here more than once, and they keep getting better! It is definitely worth the drive out to Yelm just for their eggs Benedict. They have hollandaise you could drink. And their omelettes are also to die for and very big. Don't even get me started on the hashbrowns. I am very picky when it comes to hashbrowns, and I could have eaten plate after plate of those. The most perfect crispy things ever. The service is impeccable and makes you feel very welcomed. The space is very cute and inviting, makes you want to sit there forever. Ok, so let me start with saying, Y'all know I love good food. I didn't get fat from McDonald's. When I find a new place, I'm honest and picky. I will either rave about it, especially if its got a niche menu. Its difficult to give honest judgements by just having one plate, as it may either out shine or under impress compared to the other 20+ menu options. Also, good southern traditional food, north of the Mason Dixon line, is hit and miss. The PNW is the opposite corner from my upbringing. So, I try not to be too expecting, as too not be under whelmed. Finding Red Eye gravy, on a menu, or even a chef/cook up here that knows what it is, is about 1000/1 and that is being gracious. No, you can not get it from any other plate than the ham steak, as it is rendered from the ham juice and bone marrow. There is no way to fake, can, powder, or large batch it. The Red Eye gravy was perfect! This chubby country boy is impressed . The ham steak, perfectly seared, caramelized in its own sugars and bone marrow. Yes bone in ham steak, which is necessary for the Red Eye gravy. Hint, save that bone ring for last, get that last bit of marrow out, its amazing. Now on to the grits, perfect consistancy! Yes, fork-able, but not stiff. If you want them a bit runnier or loose, just add more butter. Eggs are eggs, depending on your preferred way to have them. I like Sunnyside up, the were proper. Loose yolks, krinkley edged whites. All in all, makes a great slick for mopping up with house made bread/toast, or house made cut buttermilk biscuits. I perused the rest of the menu while waiting, looks amazing. I absolutely am looking forward to waddling my way through many more of the plates offered, both breakfast and lunch. Let me highlight the owners and staff. Super personable! By far not just there for a paycheck. Warmly and Graciously welcomed in. Did not feel like the obligatory 'welcome to Walmart, get your stuff and get out. The owners, one, front of her house, the other king of his kitchen. Both noticed a new face, and were extremely personable and took some time, as it was a slow midweek morning. I'm sure time is sparce when its busy, but they will try. read more

Worst service EVER! I rarely get upset, but this place pressed against that limit. I will only touch on the low points. Had to ask for OJ three times; was told by the owner that, (after 3 couples who came in after us were served, 2 of which completed their meals and left), our meal was being plated up right then. My wife's meal came out 5 minutes later while mine was still "being plated up". Then the final straw came when the waitress proceeded to sit down and visit with her friends at another table. I walked out even though my wife was too timid to do so. Sorry if this is the level of experience you get they won't be in business long. read more

I got the shrimp and gritz and a choose your own breakfast. I added on two pancakes but only received one. Which was fine since I was only charged for one. I ordered takeout, when I went to pick up my order there was a man at the front counter, he didn't greet me. He just asked if he could help me. I told him I was there to pick up a takeout order. He got my name said he would check and I never saw him again. About 10ish minutes later a lady came out with my order. I paid and left. The food was extremely disappointing. Not sure what was going on with the Fritz but they were a congealed blob with a weird texture, they were inedible. The eggs were fine the shrimp were a little burnt but overall fine. I would not order again. The pancake was burnt and also inedible so I'm thankful I was only charged for and received one. My son reports that his hash browns were fine, his eggs fine, his bacon was also burnt. I'm giving a 1 star my son would give 2.5. We will not be back. read more
