Sandy's is my favorite donut shop in Grand Rapids. I've never dined in (much respect to the group of old-timers always holding court over coffee that I see every time I'm in there), but I've picked up dozens and dozens of donuts over the years. Service is routinely exemplary and I'm in and out fast no matter how long the line is. They always have an enticing variety of pastries to choose from, from the traditional cake ring donuts, to fritters, to eclairs/longjohns, to seasonal varieties like pączki or king/queen cakes. They also have other treats like cookies, scones, pies, cakes, and breads (and they offer sandwiches made on their house-made breads). My favorite is the "cannonball" (a deep-fried round donut with custard and chocolate frosting) but I wouldn't say no to anything on the shelves. Like all bakeries - make sure you get there early for the best selection because they move quick (which is perhaps the best compliment you can pay a bakery). read more

Sandy's makes a good first impression with a wall mural outside & casual atmosphere inside. There were plenty of comfortable seating options as well. HOWEVER there is no bathroom even for customers. Service was quick in spite of a line. The various donuts & pastries were sufficient. The brewed coffee was much the same. The specialty espresso drink ordered took too long. It was also overly sweet. If you're looking for good oversized baked goods it's great. Still given the negatives it might be better elsewhere. read more

Celiac Foodie- I love pastries & Sandys provides GF options. A few items and they sell fast! In a small container on the counter, labeled and I love the muffins! The Raspberry Muffin was really good. My favorite donut shop ever. I moved out of state but my parents live down the street from here. So whenever I visit, we grab some donuts in the morning. They have a wide array of donuts, and my favorites are the apple fritters and maple roll with peanuts but anything there is good. I suggest getting there early to get what you want because they will sell out quickly on their busier days! You guys. Do you know how Facebook suggests food pages to follow? Is it just to foodies? Is it me?! Am I the drama? Okay sorry TikTok reference. So anyways Facebook told me about this place and I've been in Michigan an entire couple of weeks and I landed in Grand Rapids for hospital orientation. Before I get there I saw that they posted on their Facebook so I was like well what are the odds that my orientation is close? Pretty dang good. The odds were in my favor! I walk in, everyone is masked, it's clean, the person greeted me super kindly. I tell them it's my first time there. I tell them I'm coming from Zeeland and that their social media is absolutely working for them and the manager maybe? Paige? Offered to meet me half way because I live in her way home. Girl! If I didn't just gain 35lbs during covid I would take you up on that! This is amazing customer service! The donuts: I got a peanut butter chocolate one that I don't think I took a picture of because I seriously ate it in the parking lot. It had a peanut butter frosting that was absolutely divine. I got 4 Grinch donuts for these kids. I got a blueberry looking roll that I also accidentally ate it was a snaccident y'all and then I got two powdered just in case someone wants one. $9. Nine bucks. Nine dollars. Go getcha some!!! If it were up to me I would leave that box of donuts in my car and just eat them myself. I'm not even messing around. I live close to Sandy's Donuts and have heard great things, so my daughter and I had a little morning date there today. The shop itself is really quaint, cozy, and very dated (and I say that as a good thing in this situation!) There are hard yellow booths and a few tables for seating, the walls have wood paneling, and the decor is a bit like a blast from the past. This is very much a cute old school donut shop, and I love it! We got 2 cake donuts, one peanut and one with chocolate frosting and sprinkles. The donuts themselves were pretty good. They tasted fresh and moist which is always a plus! I'm guessing they made them fresh that morning. This is a good place for classic donuts. You won't find a whole lot of donuts here that scream "creative" or "different", but I think for this kind of shop that works. Very classic place. Will return! read more

We love Sandy's but they've run out of the basics the last few times we've gone and arrived around 11 (cake donut with chocolate icing and sprinkles-style of basic). It's a west side institution, this freestanding donut shop not only has the worlds best tasting donuts, but the dining area is 3 to 4 times the size of any other donut shop I have ever seen! The staff is awesome and really gives you the feeling that they appreciate your business! The owner Anita, noticed that I was taking my mom and dad there on a regular basis and made it a point to smile say hello and recognize that we were repeat customers. I really want to rate Sandy's at 5 stars. I do. But I just haven't found reason to say "WOW!" yet. I haven't had a bad donut yet. They've all been good. The chocolate yum yum in particular is unique and the best donut I've had at Sandy's. Honestly I think I like SNdy's cookies better than their donuts. For me Sandy's is all about convenience. It's a great place to go after school for time with my daughter. But if I were on the other side of GR, I can't imagine myself saying, "I really need to go over to Sandy's." Everything is good. Perhaps even great. But not knock-your-socks-off-and-make-you-say-wow level of awesomeness. As to other things: staff is wonderful and friendly. Prices are fair for a donut shop. I came from the other side of town to get these doughnuts. I got the cream filled, Bavarian filled, frosted with sprinkles, chocolate frosted cinnamon, raspberry filled, and nut covered.
