Fair warning, this place is not fancy at all, but honestly, it's donuts. Who cares if it's not fancy. Delicious apple fritter and there were pink sprinkle doughnuts so my kids were happy. Asian owned. I don't know why, but Asians make the best fresh donuts. A place in Indianapolis called pana donut is Asian owned and has been voted best in the city several yrs running. What I think is adorable are all the cards and letters from locals. Shows that this place is part of the fabric of the local community and I'm sure popular with college students and staff. Great donuts! High quality and good taste! Owner also deserves some appreciation for his good customer service and his overall good character. Super nice and will spot you a donut even after hours! (Especially CIY students). Fish tank adds a nice aesthetic and the donuts are all so good that you can't help but pick two for yourself! This place also is devoted to fighting Leukemia, which makes purchasing two donuts not feel as bad when yo saving lives through it. However there is no posted menu so you have to look through the window and hope to get the donut you want and see all the donuts. I'm from Chicago and to to Holland to visit my family and every morning I take the Amtrak back to Chicago and I have to stop by this donut shop and I'm always a little early so i sit around and wait for the rain with a great cup of coffee and donuts. The gentleman that owns the place knows me and asks about my family and hows Chicago very nice of him. Hes told me about his rough life as a child and about his parents on how they died in front of him back in Vietnam, sad story. The donuts are freshly made early in the morning everyday. Mm mm mm so good I could eat them everyday. I love the Boston cream donuts that's all I get when I go there I do need to try new ones. lol i live watching him and how all his regulars know him and he knows what they all get he doesnt even have to ask. I would say this is the spot to get donuts in town. The inside has an old school feel that reminds you of the simple things and old times and hopefully good times. It has been here for ages and the owner has been a family friend for as long as I can remember. My parents brought me here, and I might have made them take me before my train ride back to Chicago. I like to come here for something sweet every once in a while and reminisce over good times in Holland. There is plenty of options of donuts, danishes, and muffins depending on what you are in the mood for. I usually get something different all the time. Recently went for the apple danish, and that was delish! For me the place is a good introduction or ending to downtown, like goodbye or welcome to Holland. The service was smooth, relatively easy. Don't be afraid to ask them question about anything. Price was not too bad at all for the donuts. Pretty fast service. I've been coming here since my childhood and I always make sure to stop in when I'm back in town. The donuts here are the real deal and best I've ever had and I've lived in 7 states and have visited all 50. My faves are the apple fritters, custard filled choc long johns, glazed and sprinkle donuts. Also the pig n blankets are hands down the best in town. Yummy doughnuts in an old school (nothing fancy) atmosphere. They had a good selection and were willing to fill up a cream donut for us. It turned out to be whipped cream, not buttercream, but it was still very good. A bit of sprucing up the place would get it a more favorable review. Best donuts in town! A good crisp on the outside and not greasy. For filling they insert it from two ends so you don't end up with a half-filled donut. They offer a large variety of donuts as well as some muffins, cookies, coffee, and drinks including Country Dairy milk. Sure the inside is dated (recently painted) but for us, that adds to the experience of finding a hidden gem. Kids like sitting by the fish tank and watching trains roll by. We regularly get the cake donut with chocolate frosting, that with chocolate chips, powdered raspberry filled, old-fashioned, Bavarian creme, and the "hand" which has apple cinnamon filling. read more

The Down side in a world of convenience they only take cash. So for the Business man who would like to order over the phone for an assistant to pick up you will be better suited doing business with a supermarket as the Two major Doughnut shops are Mom & pop shops & cash only. If a Sweet Water or a Shiplys would open a franchise store in Holland it might mean extinction for a Mom or Pop cash only shop like those in Holland. I love this place. The owner is such a hard worker. Sometimes he doesn't hear the bell on the door ring and you might have to wait, but this gives you more time to talk to friends or if you've come alone to think about your future.
