There was mention of scarring a couple times that I can remember, but in passing. I did not consent to this. No one in their right mind would consent to looking like this. The doctor had no in-depth conversation with me about this type of scarring even being possible. I also have lost some function in my right eyebrow. The eyebrows do not react the same as each other. This was also never discussed. I have contacted plastic surgery associates, and have sent texts, and have been told that this is "normal". This is in no way shape or form normal. I do not know a single person who wants to look like this at the end of the day, nor who would agree to surgery, that would leave them looking like this for the rest of their lives. The response to my concerns has been lackluster and apathetic to say it very lightly. As a result, I'm no longer dating, I can't go out in public without wearing a hat, and I barely visit with friends or family. It has affected my confidence, and my self-esteem, and has me feeling completely gutted after this experience.

They told me they needed to submit a Medicaid pre‑authorization, which I understood but after more than a month of silence and worsening pain, I called for an update and was told they never sent the pre‑authorization at all. It felt very much like my case wasn't worth their time because I'm on Medicaid. After they finally submitted the authorization and scheduled my extraction, I reminded them -- again -- that I recently moved to this area and have no friends or family who can drive me or monitor me after sedation. I was extremely clear about this from day one. A week before the procedure, they called to confirm details and then canceled my surgery because I didn't have a chaperone. They blamed the misunderstanding on me and offered no solution, despite knowing my situation for months. My medically necessary procedure was canceled, and I had to start the entire process over with a different provider. Save yourself the stress and frustration. I would not trust this office with your care or your smile.

I went for a consultation with Dr. Curd (hand surgeon for Orthopedic…read moreInstitute) for a small infection on the side of my finger close to the nail area; after only being prescribed on an antibiotic for 5 days Dr. Curd told me that he thought he should remove my fingernail to get rid of the infection. I did not agree with this solution and asked him if he would just make a simple incision to drain the infection. He laughed at this idea and then went on to use scare tactics stating I might lose my finger if he didn't take the nail off. So after being told this I reluctantly agreed to have my nail removed surgically. The day of the surgery he was running 2 hours late and I should have been smart and left while I had the chance because what happened after the surgery was nothing but sheer torture. When I awoke after the surgery my finger was wrapped up tightly and I was sent home. After the anesthesia wore off I was at a full 10 pain level that no pain med could even touch. My fingernail looked and felt like it had been ripped right off my finger like they do to torture people in third world countries. For 6 months straight this excruciating burning and stabbing pain in my finger was constant 24/7. I could not work, drive anywhere, sleep, or even function on a day to day basis. I tried every pain med available, nerve pain meds, complete nerve block to my entire right arm, and 3 ganglion stellate nerve block injections with absolutely no relief. I would lay on my bathroom floor screaming in pain and my body would go into complete shock from the intensity of the pain. I would go back to Dr. Curd and beg for him to make the pain stop and he would jokingly make comments like "Well before you go and jump off the 11th floor let's get you over to the pain clinic". This man is heartless and so arrogant that he would also make comments like "That finger is my signature." I ended up having to seek out another hand surgeon that would help me through this horrible tragedy in order to save my finger. The nail bed had been damaged so badly from Dr. Curd's surgery that I could see the bone of my finger. My finger now was in such extreme danger of getting an infection in the bone that my new doctor was concerned he may have to amputate part of it. But along with my diligent care to my finger and my new doctors guidance together we saved my finger. I am so thankful to God and the other doctor that today I still have this finger but unfortunately I lost my range of motion in it and because Dr. Curd damaged so much tissue in the tip of my finger it is now also very deformed. Today I can only share my story with others in hopes to save another person from being hurt and treated so poorly by this so called "Doctor"; Blake Curd. "To Do No Harm" is not in his oath.

Now I know I'm not the only injured person in need of surgery & have had all the tests needed to show surgery is needed but the calcified artery showed up in the xray which is delaying surgery. The longer my arm & shoulder stay in this condition the odds are with surgery the arm & shoulder might not regain strength & mobility. I not a betting man except during the super bowl, I don't believe in doing $40K of neck reconstruction when it may not effect the issue of pinched nerve preventing any resemblance of a future that ensures quality of life. I'm on the fence now. I'm from MA where the only good thing was the quality of care. I'm not saying they are all competent but I would be in rehab now & not be stuck with a multi dollar co-pay. I will not mortgage my home for the state or hospital to put a lien on it. It's in a living trust & will. Also I have been seeing the Avera weight loss Specialist Dr Thamert I had a Gastric Bypass in Feb of 2024 and had finally lost enough weight And stopped smoking in May of 2025 so Dr Fowler was able to schedule surgery to remove the mass. It was a long process as I had the mass since 2017 and was unable to wear underwear or even sleep pants also I required the assistance of a wheeled walker to walk anywhere, I have been unable to drive myself and for me being a former nurse it was very very hard to ask for assistance for anything. I couldn't even ask my husband for assistance in bathing or self care for myself until I started seeing these two groups of providers. And Since Dr. Fowler started seeing me to start doing what I needed to do before he could remove the mass. I admit I was doing everything I could. the main road block was my smoking and I finally went to my Family Medicine provider and she started me on Chantix and I haven't had a cigarette since mid May of this year.
