I almost don't want to do a review because I want this as my hidden gem. We have passed by this restaurant for many years and we finally decided to go in. We are so impressed with every aspect of this restaurant. The wait staff is professional something that you really don't see anymore in Cleveland. From the time we walked in till the time we left the wait staff was exceptional. I ordered the seafood bisque and unfortunately I was a bit disappointed. It's with very similar to tomato soup with pieces of seafood. We also ordered whale stuffed with sausage and wrapped in bacon. That was good but it was minimal. The blood sausage was excellent but most Americans wouldn't appreciate it. They had two different types of octopus. I ordered the grill octopus with blue cheese and was excellent. My husband turned his nose up when I ordered octopus but he said that will be his number one choice when we go back. All the food that passed our table going to others looked absolutely delicious. I would love to try the paella actually just about anything else on their menu. For a tapas restaurant the portions were quite generous. I congratulate them on the excellent job that they did. We just had a reunion of 8 people and met at Sangria y Tapas for lunch. They seated us at a round table which made it easier to converse with each other. The food was outstanding, the service was impeccable and we were able to visit for 2+ hours without feeling rushed or bothered. This is such a hidden jewel of a restaurant. I can't begin to thank them for such an outstanding experience for all of us. Sangria was amazing!!! The service was exceptional and the food was top of the line! We have been to Spain and had tapas in Barcelona and this experience was definitely comparable. The staff is authentic and definitely waits on you hand and foot. I felt pretty underwhelmed with this place to be honest. The first time I came in, I sat at the bar and received wonderful service from the bartender, however I found all the dishes I ordered to be extremely salty. I ordered a mix of tapas including the marinated olives ($5), Portuguese style clams with garlic and wine ($9), and patatas bravas ($4). I personally find it very odd that a Spanish restaurant would charge $5 for olives, since they are generally gratis. I was also disappointed that the patatas bravas were made with a very strange buffalo-style sauce rather than a more traditional tomato sauce. Lastly, the clams served in a garlic and wine sauce seemed to be over reduced, and thus very salty and almost inedible. Regardless, I wanted to give this place another try before I wrote it off. The second time I came in with my husband on a weeknight. They weren't very busy, and oddly enough there was no one seated on their beautiful patio, but the hostess was happy to seat us there. I was a little wary when about 10 minutes went by before anyone greeted us. A woman brought us bread right away, and my husband tried to order some drinks, but the server seemed a little nervous and quickly skittered away, likely due to the fact that she may not have been comfortable taking the order in English. This didn't bother me at all, but what did bother me is that at least 3 other servers walked by our table and looked at us without even acknowledging us, even though we clearly hadn't been served yet. It got even more odd when an elderly woman, who seemed to be a regular judging by how she was received, seated herself on the patio and was immediately warmly greeted by a staff member (we were still ungreeted at this point). Finally the hostess noticed that we hadn't been served and sent the bartender over. The bartender was extremely kind, and did finally take care of our order, but he assured us that he wouldn't be our server, that another server would come by (this never happened). In the end, we had a perfectly adequate meal: Short rib stuffed scallops ($15), sauteed chorizo with olives ($10), and sauteed calamari with tomatoes and basil ($10). The dishes weren't bad, out of all of them I enjoyed the calamari the most, but I didn't try anything I would be eager to come back for. As for their namesake, the sangria, I found it to be too heavy on the orange juice, and it wasn't something I'd order again. Overall, I found Sangria y Tapas to be a bit of a miss on both visits. It's disappointing that we don't have nearly as many options for Spanish cuisine as other types of cuisine, which made me really want to like this place, however both the food and service missed the mark for me. read more

This was one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. We went on Valentine's Day so it was very crowded but service was still outstanding. I had a fillet mignon which was cooked to perfection, buttery, and melted in my mouth. My partner had the daily special of lobster tails which was amazing. An other enjoyable and delicious lunch at Sangria y Tapas Monday afternoon. This is the place to go when you want something good to eat that is not the usual burger, wrap or taco. Shareable small plates of Tapas or main dishes with a selection that includes unique ingredients such as octopus, goat and lamb are the norm at this Westlake restaurant. We started our lunch with some midday refreshments, wine for my wife and a Peroni on tap for yours truly. The hard part of our visit was deciding on what to have for lunch. Almost went for the goat, something you do not find servered in too many restaurants, but ordered the Paella while my wife went with the Lobster Ravioli. Lunch included a cup of soup or salad and we split the difference - I tried the soup du jour - a tomato, rice and potato combination that was very good while the healthy half of the team had the side salad. I'm assuming my wife lobster ravioli was good, she did not offer any as a taste but had positive comments on how good the dish tasted. I enjoyed the Paella, nice amount of shell fish (shrimp, clams, scallops and mussels) chicken and a spicy sausage mixed within the rice.
