A few months ago, I purchased a pair of jeans that were on sale from an online retailer. They were a great deal and seemingly in my size but once they arrived, they were massive on me. Unfortunately for me, they were also final sale. I went to Sanitate Dry Cleaners to see if they'd be able to alter the waist for me. The ladies working there were really nice and let me know they were pretty backed up with alterations (this place is popular!). The turnaround time was about 4 weeks but that didn't bother me. I didn't get a call once they were ready, as I thought I would, so I called in to make sure they were ready for pickup. The jeans fit a lot better than before and even though the back pockets were closer together as a result, they still looked good. The total was $20 which I thought was really reasonable. I tell everyone, you can't go wrong with Sanitate. They are angels with their tailoring services and dry cleaning. I had several things fixed there years ago. I had lost a significant amount of weight and they took in my fat clothes to accommodate a thinner me. I also had them tailor my wedding dress. They are great for those of us on a budget. I just moved to Baltimore/Hampden, and I needed to find a dry cleaners ASAP for work clothes. Sanitate is so convenient (I walked from my apartment), but they also did great work. Everything was cleaned and pressed so well! It's definitely not the cheapest dry cleaners in the world, but you get what you pay for, right? I usually don't need things rushed (I prefer to pick up on Saturdays), so I usually just tell them I need things a week from the day I drop them off - but you might be able to get things more rushed if you need to! This is a very small operation right off the avenue in Hampden, so you can't expect it to be on par (in terms of timeliness) with places like Zips, but what they lack in speed, they make up for with a personal touch, attention to detail, and genuine concern for your garments. Though you can't expect to pick up your clothes that day, or even the next day, they are willing to work with you if you need one of your items back sooner than the others. Just ask- they are very sweet. They recently did a last-minute alteration of my boyfriend's tux for an upcoming wedding and did a fantastic job. I had a bridesmaid dress that potentially needed to be tailored and so after hearing positive things about sanitate, decided to go there. I called in advance and the women assured me that she'd be there until 5:00. I wasn't able to get there until 4:50 and still she was willing to see me. Turns out that if I wore heels, the dress really didn't need much adjustment. Rather than taking advantage, the woman said it fit perfectly and that I should save my money and just wear heels. That said, she did offer to do some minor tailoring in the shoulders if I wanted to but didn't push it at all. Next time when I do actually need something tailored (or dry cleaned!) I had a bridesmaid dress and only 2 weeks to get alterations. Sanitate was professional and took 15 minutes pinning it to make sure I was comfortable. When I went to pick up the dress she allowed me to try it on and she even moved some buttons on the belt for free. The only downside is the price. $55 for a dress hurts. read more

If you can avoid it, I would. It took a full week and a half to get my clothes back. Seriously - dropped it off on Wed. came back on Friday the next week! What were they doing for all that time? Most dry cleaners have a turn around of a day or two. They then charged me extra because I had some cat hair on the clothes. This was not a situation of my cat nesting in my sweater for months - we're talking a few stray hairs here. Bizarre. In a full decade of owning my cats, I've never been charged extra. If the sweater was perfectly clean, I would not be bringing it to the cleaners. On top of all of that - it is really pretty expensive read more

I've been going here for nearly 4 years, and the work is always exceptional. The dry cleaning is thorough, timely, and they always give warnings if they think a garment should be treated in a different way. The alterations are expertly done, and the woman who does them advises clients on alternatives that might have a similar affect, but be cheaper. I bring all of my friends here when they say they have important garments to care for, and while I now live across town, I still bring most of my dry cleaning to Hampden just so I can work with Sanitate. My wife and I live in the area so we've been customers for a long time. The people working there are great, and my wife regularly gets alterations there. When we were getting married we asked about making alterations to a Qipao (Chinese dress) that we'd be wearing during the wedding. The owner was very helpful showing us what was possible and then reversing the alteration for us when we decided that we liked the dress as it originally was. We were surprised when they didn't charge us for this since she spent time sewing and resewing the dress. I kind of felt it was only fair to leave a review after that quality of service. read more

This is my favorite cleaner in Baltimore. They do a very good job cleaning clothing with out hijacking your purse.

Reasonable price for 2 piece suit. They were having issues with something, called me in the morning asking if I could delay pickup because of the problem. I couldn't since I had an interview the next day. I showed up in the afternoon and it turns out they went out of their way to make sure everyone who needed pickup on time got it on time. This may seem like "what people should do" but having heard enough excuses from people, it's nice that a business gets things done on time, even when something goes wrong. read more

Sanitate is right around the corner from me - walking distance. I took an expensive quilt to Sanitate for dry cleaning, which cost $50. When I got the quilt home, however, I discovered that they had washed it instead of dry cleaning it, and it was completely destroyed. The interior padding was in clumps and wads. I took it back, and rather than reimbursing me, (for the cost of the dry cleaning, let alone the cost of the quilt), they insisted they could fix it. A week later, they'd "fixed" it by pulling all the padding flat and using dozens of safety pins to hold it that way. Undo the safety pins, and the padding rolls back up into lumps and clumps. They wasted my time, they wasted my money, and they destroyed my best quilt. I now drive out of the neighborhood for my dry cleaning needs. read more

I have hardly written any reviews, good or bad, but this one I have to write: Very affordable, but you get what you pay for. Been going there on a weekly basis with 5-8 pieces each time since over a month ago. Services were good in the beginning, but then my husband found a pair of pants weirdly pressed on the sides (not even along the seam!) and between the legs. He was on a business trip and needed the pants the next day, so he had to pay $20+ to have them properly pressed using the express service from the hotel. I took pictures, brought them back to Sanitate, and they got defensive. Then we found rust stains on the collar of a shirt and staplers stapled on pants (rather than on the tag). No apologies whatsoever throughout all these from Sanitate. The owner said she does not have control over the lady working there (who presumably did the poor stapling job), and she does not care if I go try someone else. Guess what? read more
