I do not generally give good reviews unless I am totally convinced more than once. In this case, I strongly feel I owe Sanjiv's firm a review and hence this post. Experience with Other tax consultants: I have had my share of experiences with atleast 3 other tax consulting firms since 2012. While one of them was actually not bad considering their attention to detail, tax filing knowledge and timely tax filing, I realized their service was not really as good, only when I tried to reach them multiple times after the tax filing for the year was done, and when I had to file for an amendment to the tax returns (that was just filed), due to some minor corrections in my returns that I had overlooked while filing initially. Since I did not get any response / support from the original tax consultant, I tried to look for other consultants for help with refiling my returns for that year and unfortunately, I did not get a favorable/timely response from any of them. This is when I also reached out to Sanjiv's firm as I had heard Sajiv ji talking on my favourite radio channel. Experience with Sanjiv's firm: After bitter experiences with other consultants I had reached out to, I finally called up Sanjiv ji's office for help with amending my taxes in 2017 and I must say I am very impressed with their knowledge, experience, professionalism as well as service in general (including prompt response), that I have been a repeat customer since then. Although I have an option to e-file for free, with a couple of reliable online tax consulting firms, I still prefer doing them with Sanjiv 's firm, as I feel assured of my tax returns filed most accurately. I have used the services of Sanjiv's team both at Sunnyvale as well as San Jose (prefered) locations, and I am truly happy with the kind of service that I have received (especially from Gowri and Sumedha). Heard about Sanjiv Gupta CPA firm from a friend and I had them file my tax returns since last 2 years. It was a pleasant experience to deal with the experienced and efficient staff members, especially Ravinder Walia and Dhara Gandhi who helped me every step of the way to finalize and file the Tax Returns. They were thoroughly professional and promptly responded to emails and phone calls. I was able to obtain answers to my questions several times over the phone and they were always polite in responding and giving clarifications. They took care of all the issues/concerns that came up during the process of finalizing the tax returns to my satisfaction. I had visited their office in person only once to initially introduce myself and subsequently everything was done through emails and phone calls. I had recommended this Firm to several of my friends and hope they too would receive the same kind of service. I went to Sanjiv Gupta CPA for my taxes this year and was helped by Mr. Shamsher at Sunnyvale office. He is a thorough professional, very knowledgeable, dedicated to his customers, trustworthy, attentive and easy to work with. He was very helpful, walked me through the entire process and explained everything in a way such that I felt comfortable and at ease. He was always available to answer any questions and patiently responded to all of them. He clearly specified all the information he needed from me in order to complete the paper work. Also he was very prompt in asking for any missing information right away. As promised, he completed everything in the timeline he initially committed and filed taxes in a timely manner. My taxes were complicated which required strong attention to detail and accuracy and he did a fantastic job. I got an opportunity to talk to Mr. Sanjiv as well, he is extremely knowledgeable on complex tax laws/systems, guides you well and cares for his customers. When it comes to taxes, having peace of mind and not worrying about any IRS issues cropping up later is very important, this is the place which can give you that. First thing first: If you want to be treated with utmost unprofessionalism, suffer through untrained staff, waste your precious time to no productive end and to top it all still get your taxes down incorrectly, please throw your hard earned money here. This seem like a sweat shop with untrained/unprofessional staff doing there stuff as they please when they please. It'd would be big mistake to trust him with something as important as taxes. You can forget about getting any refund and start to worry about realizing how much you might owe to IRS (i.e. only if you get your taxes done here). Bets of all he has no idea what he talks about most of the time, random gibberish, did-bits pulled from papers and articles etc. things all such quacks does. Sorry for the language but he is an idiot who's out there to take your money for rendering crappy service which will make you pay even more to the IRS. The only advise he gives for saving taxes is "buy a home". Wow as if no one knew that. Save your dollar and go somewhere else. Sanjiv Gupta and colleagues have impressed me immensely for their professionalism, dedication, thoroughness, politeness, knowledge, solving complex issues and performing some delicate tasks with ease. Within the past 5 years, I have used 2 other CPAs but Sanjiv Gupta firm is by far the BEST. My IRS form was full of complications, including overseas income issues, overseas tax laws, overseas bank accounts and property matters, and a student having overseas income etc. However, all these issues were handled competently and at a reasonable rate. Normally I am very critical on writing any review, let alone glorifying reviews, but I am so impressed with the professionalism and humanity of these individuals that I have no hesitation to pass on all compliments and best wishes to them. It is commendable for a "Desi" firm to maintain such high standards- hats off to you. I am particularly indebted to Neha Jain and Tenuja Gorle who are the most sweet human beings. We moved from Chicago to the Bay Area and I was looking for someone to help pick-up our tax history along with assistance on reconciling all the tax implications around selling our house there and relocation benefits. I was pretty late getting started on taxes this year. When I started looking for tax advisers in March, it was difficult to find a good one during that time of the year. I reached out to Ravinder in Sanjiv Gupta's office and given the timing and complication we decided to file an extension. The whole process was electronic - pretty painless and quick. Later, after a few months we wrapped up the final taxes - again everything electronic and easy but dropped by their location once to meet them. I had good experience with Ravinder - pretty communicative over the email and very easy and patient/pleasant to work with. The charges were reasonable relative to Bay Area.The good thing about this group is that if they are unsure of the rules or if there's any complication, they can leverage each other and Sanjiv - so the network does help quite a bit versus some individual Tax adviser. read more

I wouldn't even give him one star. This place is totally useless and unprofessional. They provide accounting services and are not ready to take any responsibility for the work they do on your tax form. They even enter wrong numbers and expect you to check otherwise you are responsible for that. CPA has no responsibility of even entering wrong numbers forget about right calculations. If they can't give any meaningful advice, if they don't know how and what to enter where. Why do they bother to provide this service. Guy himself don't take any responsibility and if time comes, he blames his employees. Hey, people come to get work done from CPA and we understand that CPA can't do all the job himself but he should verify and make sure the info is correct before he signs the form and taxes go to IRS. Anyway, if you want even basic accounting and tax services, It is not the place, forget about any customer support, professionalism etc. These words are too big for Sanjiv Gupta and his staff. We have been getting our taxes filed at Sanjiv Gupta CPA firm from past four years. Last year we opened our own company (S-Corporation), and we were unfamiliar with business tax process and procedures. During our first business tax planning meeting with Sanjiv and Anukta, they explained how everything would work for our unique situation. All though we were frightened at first, and we took a few days to understand everything they explained, and it made sense. Finally, Anukta filed our taxes, and we are very pleased with her work. DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER! I have no words to explain how useless Sanjiv was. He kept yawning and looking at his phone and made me repeat my questions because he was distracted by his phone. He did not even give the right advice. We had to go to another CPA to get our work done. Sanjiv clearly told us it cannot be done and yet charged us $150 for the consultation. We were only 35mins into the consultation when we stood up and asked us to leave and then he had the audacity to charge us $150. He was least interested in answering our questions and even ridiculed some of the questions. I strongly advice anyone considering Sanjiv Gupta to not do so. It will be a waste of money and time. This is my 2nd year of doing taxes with Sanjiv Gupta at the Sunnyvale office. Nupur (Sunnyvale office) did the taxes this time around and she is quite knowledgeable, courteous, timely and efficient. Nupur was also able to catch errors in my prior year's tax returns and helped us file an amendment that will result in a refund. I wish they had some privacy when discussing personal information and this is virtually impossible as the office is all open space with all the tax preparers and clients sitting in the same space.The tax filing charges are dependent on how complex your tax returns are and will vary depending on individual circumstances. Sanjiv's prices are competitive compared to some of the other tax preparer's around I would recommend giving them a chance if you are unhappy with your present situation. read more

Completion of our taxes involved a number of different aspects both in India and the US and hence we required very good and precise professional help and guidance to complete and file our taxes as per the rules and regulations of the IRS and California Franchise Tax Board. Sanjiv Gupta is one of the most useless Accountant . He is just a 'book' reading type accountant, but charges 10 times more than those software usually offers. He lacks sound Accounting and Tax professional experience and just manages with what he 'studied' 10 years ago. Keeps totally outdated on current regulations about CPA practice guidelines, chicken scared to sign anything. Besides, he runs a restaurant somewhere in Bay area. He has no time to accounting practice; but, want to keep it for earning some part time money. We all know about this kind of part time/ fly by night Accountants.. They run away one day closing thier business and filing for Bankruptcy... ! As a small/ medium business owner - Only if your fate is wrong you will end up going to this fool's doorstep. read more
