It is right in the middle of San Sebastian street which also happens to be the heart of nightlife in Viejo (Old) San Juan. this whole street is live, buzzing till midnight and sometimes till 2 AM. so if you wanna get the vibe/ feel of nightlife, come to this street (Calle in Spanish) here. We entered, every server was busy, we saw one empty high table, settled ourselves and ordered fish tacos, Chicken Empanadillas, and a couple of drinks (Mojito & beer). Fish tacos were really good, the best we had in the old San Juan area. we were there for 50 odd minutes and went to another bar. the ambiance was good but can't say the same about service but as I said above- this is the scene in every other bar in that street. so this is normal there. also, happy hour is from 3 to 8 (like other bars) one thing to keep in mind- whatever the restaurant/bar/pub you visit in this area - your food order gonna take time, as these all are mostly there for drinks, of course, food items are there in the menu, but it's gonna more then usual time, so if you are hungry, try other restaurants. LOVE THIS PLACE! Our server whose name I cannot for the life of me remember was wonderful, and the doorman was adorable. Amazing FISH TACOS! Flavorful AF and even tastier with the hot sauce, so definitely get the hot sauce. They have happy hour from 3 to 8 - got tasty Mojitos and Pina Coladas. Also tried their little shots of frozen slushies for a $1 each - really liked the tamarind one. Also, I highly recommend and would double down on the Paellitas. If you've had Paella in Spain, these Paellitas are the mini-version-don't-wanna-share as they are smaller in portion. However, it was well seasoned and the 3 pieces of shrimp on top were fat and plump (just how I like my shrimp!). Sit by the front and you can also people watch to your heart's content. I wanted to like this place but in 15 min after ordering the waiter/host came back to me and said that the food I ordered (empanadas) will take a while because the owner/bartender/chef is busy fixing the payment system over the phone, so he can't make my food :( Since it was 20 min before the dry law kicks in, I didn't want to run into the situation of drinking without the food or having food without a drink. Had to urgently look for another replace because finding something that's open and decent is pretty challenging these days! The waiter spoke some English but also had to use Google Translate to explain the situation. They do give you sanitizer before letting you enter the indoor area. The place is small and cute. Service was terrible! The food was not that good either. We came in one evening and the whole restaurant was empty, it was way past their happy hour and people had already left. We got a table and ordered the food right away. We waited an hour and the food was still not out. The waitress ignored us the entire time. There was 3 people working and the place was empty. After an hour I stood up to go use the bathroom and I peeped through the kitchen window and saw our food sitting there and it looked stale. I finally confront her and it took another 5 min for her to bring the food. The food was cold, she completely neglected us and our order. We tried eating the food but it had hardened and didn't taste very good. And we got no utensils to eat the food with and no napkins. Overall HORRIBLE experience! Avoid! read more

If you need a break from the tanzanite shops and tourist mobs on Fortaleza, walk a few blocks uphill to this nice little tapas restaurant on a quiet blue cobblestone street. I discovered it by accident, as I was looking for La Taberna Lupulo, which was closed. I spotted Sanse across the street and was able to snag an open table by the window. I was planning to have just a glass of the house wine, but when my friendly server handed me the tapas menu I couldn't resist the temptation. The empanadillas - which despite the name are really full-size empanadas - are baked in the oven and served sliced in half for easy sharing. I ordered the spinach version, but it also comes in salmon or soy. Hot, crispy, satisfying and very reasonable at only about $7. I also enjoyed the camarones coco - a long plate of five grilled (? - I think) shrimp topped with a delicious coconut cream sauce. Overall, the prices seemed reasonable for a tourist-oriented neighborhood, and the location is very convenient to El Morro if you've just finished exploring. With so many other items on the tapas menu to try, I would definitely return. read more

Food was amazing! Super delicious. We had been in search of some good rice plates and the Paellas did just that. Both the Mountain Paella and the Seafood paella were mouth watering. I didn't care for the chorizo in the Mountain Paella but it still was really good. I don't normally like plantain but since we were visiting Puerto Rico, we felt it was a must to try some mofongo. We had the Mofonguitos, well let's just say I'm sooo happy we ended up trying them. The flavors were a nice balance so it didn't taste fully like plantain. Sanse is an oasis in Old San Juan among the beautiful old buildings with blue cobblestone streets. The cool air conditioning and wait staff smiles were so welcoming after a long, hot trek up to the national historic Morro Fort. Nilsa was our greeter who directed us to the coolest spot in the bar and made home brewed iced tea, a necessity for this Texan. The food here was delicious!! It is a bit on the pricier side but it was very worth it. There were $5 mojitos which weren't too bitter or too sweet. The paella had fresh and juicy seafood and the rice was cooked perfectly. Easy food prep was done boiled a shrimp, out if I a sweet duck sauce and sprin kled coconut on it and called it coconut shrimp. Staff was not friendly. My brother didn't get his order after almost 50 minutes and they argued with him insisting he did. They were also out of almost everything. This was a shock because it was a Thursday night. What do they do when it is busy if they can't handle a mid week what do they do when it is busy. Night one: we stopped in for cocktails after searching for a place for drinks on a Saturday night and busy bar street. We had great service and good cocktails and AC!! A little annoyed they weren't filled cocktails glasses, about 3/4 full, but they were good. Went back for lunch on a Sunday, I had coconut shrimp tapas which were fantastic, zucchini fritters appetizer which were decent. A little mushy but I understand that given the water content of zucchini. My husband ordered the Pork Loin dinner with rice. He was a little frustrated to find that it wasnt pork loin, rather pork belly. He isn't a fan of fatty meat and you could hardly cut the meat it was so tough. He ate maybe 1/4 of the dish. When the waitress came he expressed his dislike of the meal. We received no acknowledgment and paid our $58 bill plus tip, because we are nice, and left. Nice tapas bar that has a lot more space in the back where they were playing old movies. They also play a good selection of music. They serve an awesome spicy sauce made with pineapple and guava. This is a great place in Old San Juan. After reading many reviews I decided to spend my one evening in PR here. The service was great and the menu options are endless. Everything about this place was fantastic. We had just landed in OSJ, and wanted to try the coquito for Christmas, our server went out of her way and made sure to provide them for us! We also got the $5 mojitos and seafood paella. We had tried some paella in Barcelona (I know, we should have gone to Valencia) but this was way better. The mojitos were also a hit. I stumbled upon this place trying to find La Factoria. I am so glad I stopped here. First let me say I had a $5 Passion Fruit Martini. It was on special and it was delicious. Well balanced and not too sweet. You can tell they use fresh fruit to make the drink. I order a small plate of calamari. I talked with the server who informed me that they slice the calamari and it is fresh everyday. Sold. Now it comes with a sauce, one I did not care for but their house hot sauce was amazing. I used 1/4 of the bottle on my dish. The calamari was soft and not chewy. Not much seasoning on the coating but the hot sauce made it sing. It was medium heat balanced with fresh pineapple when made. So good. Was wishing I had some of that for my eggs this morning. Also as I used the restroom I walked by a chef carving meat from the whole leg of the prosciutto. There were stack and bowls of fresh fruit, plantains, and tomatoes too. I appreciated seeing that as I knew he ingredients used in the kitchen were fresh. We went to this bar on a Tuesday (the only place open) and again that Saturday when it was fairly crowded. We didn't eat, just stopped in for drinks. The service was good, bartenders nice but the drinks were not. We had a mango martini, a passion fruit, martini, a glass of cava, and a vodka-soda. The only drinkable one was the vodka-soda, cause how do you screw that up? The food looked good so I actually probably would try it, if there weren't many other nearby options. read more

Recommended by a local restaurant owner Sanse was some of the fewest restaurants opened for lunch. It is a Spanish-Tapas restaurant with a nice decoration that offers a variety of menu items including some traditional puertorrican food. Server was very nice and attentive. My knocked out star goes to some of the items not been available like pulpo a la gallega and mofongo was served half soft plaintain and half smashed plaintain which was selected by chef and wasn't my favorite. Lobster and shrimp was cooked perfectly. I prefer my mofongo normal. Besides that I see myself coming back to eat here. read more
